CES 2009 LIVE Blog

Sitting backstage amid a flurry of activity, I am now set up with my work space to record the complete keynote audio for posting later today.

In addition, I’ll be live blogging the keynote using Coveritlive (below.) This is much more interactive and easier to follow since no refresh is required…just sit back and I do most of the the work. 

The keynote kicks off tonight at 6:30pm local time here in Las Vegas (find out what time that is in your time zone)  and I’ll start the live blog about 30-minutes before. Drop in and join us!

    @lockload Thanks for the Livestream link. It says “Live Webcast – Steve Ballmer Keynote: 6:30 p.m. PST, Jan. 7″ but Major Nelson says (Keynote starts at 7pm PT)? Which is it?

    I own both a 16GB ipod touch and a 80 gb zune, to be honest the touch is cute but the battery life sucks and the neatness of the touch controls is shortlived. Stick with a traditional format for Zune and simply work hard to get the zune marketplace working faster and better.

    Remember that CES is not a typical gaming type of event, it is a very, very small portion of what goes on there. Zune fits better with the show content, so usually you only get small announcements on 360 and Zune. I do think they could focus on the functionality of NXE, things like the media center functionality and Netflix fit in well with the other type of things going on at CES.

    I am getting about a minute of lag when watching on the MS site, but that is a huge improvement over the past few years that have been horrible for lag and delays.

    I miss Bill, this is only the 3rd time I have missed being live at the Keynote in the last 12 years. Hopefully next year I will be able to make it down in time for the keynote, they are always fun.

    I would be so happy if they announced the Zune coming to other countries, like New Zealand. I’d love to have a reason to get rid of my iPod 120gig

    150 Hours, think about the overall entertainment value that is. That is an incredible number, Major that should be a monster for advertising the great value gaming is. Think about a movie that is 10 bucks for two hours, Halo 150 hours + for $59.99.

    Anon 13, your kidding right.

    Zune is such a better product than the basic ipod, build in radio, better video, easier controls, glass screen, while itunes has a faster and better music purchasing experience, zune has a better podcast system, subscription, and some type of social interaction.

    I am simply waiting for the Zune to be able to support flash, which will really give them a very solid advantage over the ipod.

    So Major, what do you think? I understand that CES isn’t a traditional gaming convention or show, but with the convergence of platforms, do you expect to see Live and the next gen of xbox become a larger part of MS’s presence in the future of CES?

    That was GREAT! Did they say if Primetime is available in all regions or at least all of North America? Because so far im just assuming it’s U.S. only as usual but I really hope I can enjoy it in Canada.

    For me and the two or three other die-hard loyalists, Palm Nova OS is THE story for CES 2009. Is it a grand slam, or have they finally (after so many years of foul tips) struck out? Share whatever you are picking on up this, with many thanks.

    My opinion. The worst ces from a xbox standpoint. Nothing new. No Video Marketplace for the rest of Europe. Exspt for 1vs100 but that was old to. disappointment

    Thanks for that. I kind of stopped visiting palmone.com AFTER I had to replace my Treo600 (sim card malfunction) and was thinking up going to a Tre650. Though after playing with a friend’s Treo650 and seeing the 700, I skipped out. Thinking a simple feature such as looking at your Call Log, then Details, then Copy Phone # and then adding that number to your address book was not featured on the 650. I totally ignore any upgrades, though the Centrino caught my eye, I backed down. This Palm Nova OS is a breath of fresh air as I want to upgrade, but no phone seems to service my simplest of features. Pocket Windows, Windows Mobile – not for me, Palm OS all the way – “I just like it better”. My LifeDrive, though a great device (who buck the trend), I just can not get a program that converts to asf (codec or file) correctly. I look forward to motionapps as Mmovie is a nice app to have.
