Weekend fun at Xbox

Not sure what your weekend was like, but one my co-workers here at the office decided spend a few hours of his weekend it in a Tattoo shop getting another tattoo. This time, it’s the quartet of knights from Castle Crashers. I’ve uploaded some high rez versions to a Flickr set if you want to get a closer look.

Arcade, Xbox 360 By Larry Hryb, Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson

  • fkthor

That is awesome. Really high nerdfactor but soo cool.

  • DMZilla

“one of my co-workers”… you mean your favorite co-worker. ;-)

  • wyoming SBG

Very cool, looks like the tattoo artist did a great job!

  • Redshadow151

Wow. Thats is too awesome, it looks great!

  • LightningDemon

Probably the dumbest tattoo i have ever seen.

    Waste of that artists time.

  • Antz2ndxbox360

    any copyright issues.

  • Gorkinlot

    Nice! sweet tattoo

  • Project Fallout

Wow. Now THAT is really cool.
    Looks really good :D

  • http://www.deadpixellive.com broxy bear

i would have thought those characters would have some sort of copyright

  • Jamie

This has the ability to swing between being awesome or really lame.

Unfortunately the needle stopped at lame.

  • Combo90

loool are you serious? i bet thats just temporary…i agree with fkthor(first commentor) awesome but nerdy..

  • Mal

Wow … really — you got a permanent tattoo of a marginal hack and slash game? Castle Crashers … really? Incredibly dumb.

  • Kendoguk

you guys saying thats cool are as sad and pathetic as the guy who got it.

If its real the guy really needs a life.

  • kdzBiBa

    that tattoo is great…
the greatest tattoo i’ve ever seen is still the Q3 logo :D

  • Anonymous

I think I would have to kick my own ass if I woke up and had that ink, but its very nice work I’ll give it that

  • Hey

    How lame can you get?

That’s about as lame a tattoo as I can imagine……

  • sorrybut

    thats stupid……

  • Chris

To all those raising copyright… shh, the world’s bad enough with DRM!

    Cool tatt!

  • Me

If the tattoo were accurate, only one castle crasher would be on the tattoo because the other three couldn’t connect.

  • Warrengonline

    @Kendoguk
My ex-manager has spiderman right above his butt and a fellow tattoiee, errr, associate with tattoos has Wolverine, Psylocke, Rogue, The Beast, Magneto and (I forget the rest going across his back) in celebration of the movies. I would not have this on my body (I’m secretly anti-tattoo, but as an artist, I love to see new designs). Either way if it is fake or real, its still cool. Don’t be jealous. ;)

    @fkthor
I’m surprised they aren’t selling temporary tattoos in multiple sizes (including that size in the photo) for like $2 to $5. I’d be glad to put a temp tatt on of the Gears of War gear’n skull. Companies could make a killing in that micro drop, both color and non-color (just black).

  • brandon

Love the work the colors really pop and to everyone who negative “too each his own”

  • Kendoguk

    Jealous of what?

  • DarkSynopsis

    Very Nice :)

I don’t see a problem with the tattoo, sure it has a nerd factor but those who don’t even know what Castle Crashers is won’t know what its even about.

  • http://www.geminiace.com/ Gemini Ace

Did the tattoo cost $5 more than it should have?

  • DMZilla

Just so everyone is clear… This is something I got because I love the game Castle Crashers, and really appreciate the hard work that the developer, and the great people here at Xbox Live, put into the game. It is also one of our most successful XBLA games ever, so I assume there are a ton of people out there in the wild that also like the game (maybe not as much as me).

That said, I got this tattoo for me, not you, so I understand if you do not like it. It took two hours of the artist’s time and he really liked how it turned out and how powerful the colors “pop”. I hope someday you get a tattoo of something you appreciate (or don’t, that’s your choice). Also, you can’t see it in the picture, but this is part of a sleeve tattoo that has other game-related imagery that I hope to complete by the end of the year.

Anyways, thanks for the comments. Now get back to gaming! :-)

  • Hey

    @ DMZilla

The colors won’t “pop” 6 months down the line, trust me.

  • Turtle502

Well said DMZilla — although I never went for a tattoo, my hair once went through a cycle of every color imaginable. Comments were always pretty much the same! :p

If you can live with it, go ahead. Better yet for you, your employer doesn’t mind!

  • LoL

Hey DMZilla, if you love Castle Crashers as much as you say, why have you only got 4 achievements worth a paltry 65Gs from playing it???

  • Willeth

Some very impressive colour work there – would love to see an update once it’s ‘settled in’. :P

  • Firecrest

That’s your arm, DMZilla? WAY TO BRAG!!!!!

No, seriously, that’s pretty awesome and not excessively dorky. Did you hear anything from Dan Paladin yet?

  • DMZilla

I don’t think he’s seen it yet, but I’m awaiting the day Dan Paladin shows up at my door with a flaming sword and chops my arm off. Once the skin heals the colors will look even better. Right now its still pretty irritated.

  • darkjester74

Larry’s gamerpic pretty much sums up my thoughts on the subject.

  • Herman

yes its nerdy but the colors do pop and for all the people that are hating, go fuck your mother and rape your fucking dad you bunch of cocksucking faggots.

  • D3NNIS60

DMZilla, I think the tatoo is great, the colors are perfect.

  • Firecrest

DMZilla, is that the only gaming-related tattoo that you got? I actually know a few people IRL with a few. Never had a desire to get one myself though.

Also, do you get as much slack from the guys at the office as much as you are here? Really, what’s with the hate, people? It’s that much more original than a scantly-clad woman or heart tattoo.

On the subject of CC, I just recently started playing online following the dropout fix. It’s especially a lot of fun with the right crowd.

  • UnHoly One

DMZilla, as a long time canvas of Tattoos I learned long ago that the one and only thing that matters is whether you yourself look at it and think “that is so sweet”.

Within days of getting my first tattoo I quickly realized they had an effect I had not previously thought of, and that is they serve as a great “filter” to keep you from accidentally having to deal with assholes.

Anyone who wants to judge me based on my tattoos isn’t worth my time to begin with.

  • Firecrest

Errr… I completely skipped the part where you said you have other “gaming-related imagery” in your comment. O_o

  • NBA2kChico

    I luv it……
    nice one….

  • Anonymous

    People are really that dumb.

  • Gamercow

Hope the colors stay lively! I want to get the Intellivision runningman on me at some point.

  • IconicSoulJA

If it were cheaper, I’d probably consider getting this game but not worth that much IMHO.

  • john

    one word LOSER!

  • lolwut

That tattoo came out horrible. Before you pay someone to scar your body for life, you had better make sure they can trace a straight line. Which says nothing about how stupid having a Castle Crashers tattoo on your body for the rest of your life is, I was speaking specifically on how unprofessional the workmanship of this piece is.

  • Kendoguk

Dmzilla your still a sad man.

  • vega

    wow….idiot

  • Bryan

The color is really deep… I might possibly go buy Castle Crashers now??? Not sure any suggestions Reply to BryanBrozy@Gmail.com or hit me up on live XxSportsMan93xX

  • lame

    that is soooooo lame

  • Willeth

When I still wanted a tattoo, one of my favourite ideas was a Shadow of the Colossus weak-point glyph below my left collarbone, and then a tiny Wander climbing my right thigh. I’d still love to see someone get it at some point.

  • LawdaddyCO

    I thought it was a joke…guess not.

I know what you should get next, an UNO card on the other arm!

    YAY XBOX LIVE! Dork.

  • Unseen 5hadow

Wow. Okay so obviously a lot of people on this site don’t understand tattoo culture. First and foremost you never get a tattoo for someone else or to someone else s liking. You are the one wearing it and hopefully looking at it everyday. Also there is no dumb, stupid or what not because even though you may have an opinion the person is expressing themselves in their way with the tattoo as a visual reference. I think its cool and even though its not a tattoo I would get I love the game and can see why people would choose it. The colors do “Pop” and I love that about the game too.
Now the other thing I hear so often on gaming forums and LIVE is “Get a life” or “such a waste of time.” Well really who is the judge of what a wasted life is? According to my definition maybe your life is wasted and such my point is that you can never say just because someone did something you cannot or dont want to do does not mean they wasted their time or life they accomplished something they wanted to do. Personally I think too many people forget to have fun in life and enjoy their own successes because we get surrounded by people who can never find anything in anyone or anything but shame because they themselves are ashamed. Live YOUR life and do what YOU want to do because in the end thats the person your gonna be stuck with and if your not happy than no one can be.

  • Cat Hair Soup

Definitely getting the Oblivion horse armor (with horse) tattoo.

  • Cirdan Alcarin

thats pretty epic, who was the artist?

  • Hennessy AoW

Hey DMZilla, I LOVE the tat! To all these people saying derogatory things about the tattoo, keep in mind you don’t have to like it, he does, you also don’t have to approve of his choice. This is America, where we have the freedom to do things like pierce our faces and ink our skin. Live free DMZilla, and enjoy that bad-ass tattoo ;)

  • iii

I guess this disproves survival of the fittest. This guy is the biggest moron ever for getting that tattoo.

  • King Under

That tattoo is cool. I don’t understand why gamers always have to be assholes. If you don’t like it then don’t comment on it. Does it make you feel better about yourself to rip on someone else or something?? I just don’t get it.

  • AntiGollum

It’s easy to be brave when your comments are anonymous. I love how the haters don’t bother to signin before they post.

As for the tattoo? Not something I’d have gotten. But I must say the colors are great. And if it is, as you said, part of a larger collection that makes up a “canvas” of meaningful imagery, then it’s probably not something you’ll regret in 10 years. I think a bunch of us here are interested in the others you have. You should get Major to snap some more photos.

  • AutomaticOcelot

@DMZilla: Fine work, but since you say it’s not done yet, do you have to wait 5 months for the next update?! Sorry.. could. not. resist. Keep on the ink, man.

  • Fullmetal Loki

lol Wow. People need to lighten up. It’s an original piece of work and is good quality. King Under, to address what you said about asshole gamers it’s because they are little picked on dorks who come online to vent they’re anger. Morons. lol Rock on DMZilla. When can we see the other work you talked about? : )

  • Fullmetal Loki

…ok allow me to reiterate one part. Color = good. Line work = whoa…bad. lol Still a great original piece though.

  • JR

Anon 20, I agree with your point, but when the work is posted here for all the world to see, it’s hard to imagine that it was just done for his own satisfaction. He could have kept his identity quiet, but instead he felt the need to defend his choice. And that, to me, says it wasn’t done for only himself.

Most of my own ink is usually covered. Not because I’m ashamed of the work, but because it IS for me to enjoy. I could not care less what other people think, and therefore I don’t stick it in their face…as was done here.

If I start posting pictures and “showing off” my ink, then you have an open invitation to express your negative opinion on the matter, if you so desire.

The bottom line, don’t post it if you aren’t prepared for judgements and negative comments. It’s just that simple.

  • JR

You people who only want to see positive comments need to a grip on reality. That will NEVER happen. Let me repeat that…it will NEVER happen. Opinions vary. Everyone has one and just like mine, they ALL smell like sh*t. Get used to it, or prepare yourself for a miserable life.

  • Nibbles37

    Very Nice! High Five!

  • YouDork.

So you got it for yourself but yet you allowed someone to take pics of it and post it on the internet for everyone to see like an attention whore. Just so we’re crystal clear. It’s a tattoo of friggin’ Castle Crashers, which may be a decent game, but good lord. A TATTOO? You XBOX guys.. Always trying to come off as “cool” and “hip” but just end up so lame. Have fun explaining that one to women.. your children.. grandchildren. Castle Crashers..

  • russ

Thats fake. Too colourful to be a real tattoo, plus no-one is that sad surely?

  • Mike

    Wow its awesome.

  • Ai Kago

People can do what they want, I don’t see the problem as long as though they are happy and it does not harm others.

I personally would never get a tattoo, but I don’t take the piss out of people that have one. I think people that do riducule others have personal problems of their own.

  • Saisha

    Awesome ^^.

  • mr xbox

You haters make me sick. If y’all don’t like tattoos, why take the time to post? If anyone of you trolls said this disrespectful garbage to MY face, you would be waking up in a hospital, no questions asked.

Don’t get me wrong, everyone is entitled to their opinion, you are not entitled to belittle someone for disagreeing with yours. You don’t like tats? Think gaming tats are nerdy? fine. Show some respect and be polite, or STFU cause his ink got nothing at all to do with you. Only person you should be judging is yourself.

It’s all about respect. Dude does what makes him happy and y’all calling names and cutting him down. For what? The lulz? Disgusting. I’m honestly embarrassed for the scumbags that actually posted that immature, hating b.s. while signed in. You people are a pitiful excuse for human beings and should be ashamed of yourselves.

DMZilla- Big ups. Thanks for sharing, can’t wait to see more. Holler at your supers to release DoDonPachi DaiOuJou Black Label in the states willya?

  • killer rin

    great..

but before anyone says this is nerdcore it isnt, this is nerdcore http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/2174/nintendobacktattoofh2.jpg

  • a

Theres a difference between nerdy and pathetic…this is just pathetic…

  • fr

“Ya I’m real cool, I get Major to take pictures of my crappy tattoo so everyone on his site will think I’m cool then I’ll complain about it when people don’t like it”.. what a loser that dude is for getting this tattoo…

  • lantastik

There are about 100 rules of getting tattoos. I know one of them is definitely don’t get a tattoo on your bicep if it is gelatinous. Oh yeah, and the other is products/characters are a definite no-no, even if they are cool. They become idiotic as soon as they are converted to ink on your body.

  • lantastik

    @Anon 27
The hilarity of your post cannot be described in words. First you let us all know that you would commit a class 1 felony for our dislike of a tattoo, then you go on to let us know we are entitled to our opinions. Oh man, I love internet tough guys. That is just too hilarious.

  • Warrengonline

    @DMZilla
Hey man, don’t mind the haters, because if you aren’t hated or loved, you don’t exist (there is a reason for the paparazzi and why ‘the chased’ do not like them – welcome to the club). I really would like to see the finished product also. DM, you now are part of gaming trivia:

“WHO has a ‘Behemoth’ arm that’s a friend with a ‘Major’ of Microsoft’s Xbox Live?”

    Kudos and 1up . . . (times 4)

  • anon

The comments on this page make me think that most people on here are truly unhappy with their life. Whats with all the hate?

  • Iammyowngod

Props to the artist for the great work. Bonus points for the inside of the arm. I’ve spent over 100 hours getting tats and can feel and love the pain. That has to be 1 of the dumbest tats I ever saw.

  • Parassassin

And now its time for my 2 cents.

The idea behind the tattoo is a good one, if that is what you want. However, there is an issue with the workmanship, there appears to be a lot of gaps and wonky lines. But the biggest problem is the large missing chunk of art under the green characters sash belt. There are many lines that do not connect and there appears to be a orange blob on the blue characters helmet.

All that aside the tattoo is nice, trust me the colours WILL wash out as the skin thickens and heals.

The “get a life” comment makes me laugh quite hard, because here is a guy who is involved in gaming for a living, probably having the time of his life and yet some people feel this is not having a life.

Great tattoo, dodgy artwork and some stupid comments!

  • TubbyJester

Anyone who thinks this is a real tattoo is just gullible. First that would have taken way more than 2 hours to ink. Second there is no way it would be healed in just a couple of days.

  • Adaptor

It looks almost as real as Peter Moore’s GTA 4 tattoo…

  • rubbish usrname

love the tat, i would be stoked on that, ive been thinking about getting the gears skull, i might just have to get it now.

  • majornelsonnisanerd

    virgin for life.

  • CaptainKicker

Anon 33 – stupid comment. We know you are a virgin.

    Btw. tatoo’s cool!

  • Tommy G

    How lame is that =(

  • Billy

Anon 33 chances are that you’re probably still a virgin as well so why the hate?

  • Parassassin

Hey Tubby just a few things about your comments that need to be highlighted. I have a tattoo about the same size and with about the same amount of detail, and it took no more than 90 mins to complete. Once the tattooist had drawn the outline in pen and finalised the design it is a fairly quick process. As for the healing issue, people heal in different ways, some people bleed and leave a lot of scabs and others just have some bruising around the outside. If you look closely you can see the red marks around the outside.

Download the photo from Flickr to see it in full detail before you make a silly assumption about it not being real. If it wasn’t real why would there be inperfections that only ever occur in tattoo’s such as the unconnecting lines and missing blocks of colour?
