Just for info’s sake: The game received a “Keine Jugendfreigabe” (according to http://www.USK.de) in Germany, so there’s no reason to withhold it. Or has it been cut?

I just picked up a used copy of Fear Files but thought I’d play the first Fear again. And now there’s a Fear 2 demo? I’m overwhelmed with F.E.A.R.

Fuck off Germany and the USK (rating board), I´ll never buy your half assed attempt to protect children from violence. I´ll go with the UK version as always.

Hope they give an option in the full game to turn off the walking (bobbing up and down) it’s really distracting, makes it hard to control and a slight motion sickness feeling.

@ CAT HAIR SOUP – don’t waste your time with fear files. We all bought it thinking it was a sequel to fear which is good. Not even made by the same people I have been told I hated it and traded it in after 2 days and everyone I know has done the same or just let it rot in there collection. The 1st Fear is well worth a play.

just played the demo, the mecha bit was pretty cool. the A.I was decent, they let you try heaps of weapons. not bad at all. but i’ll wait for the review.

This game is going to be AMAZING. One of the best games of 2009 for sure.

I’m dropping this blog from my RSS reader. I had hoped that it would alert me to good new demos. Instead, it has been alerting me to demos that I’m required to pay for. If I were a publisher, I would question the Gold-exclusive demo feature of Xbox LIVE. Of course, I would also question the ‘no multiplayer without Gold’ feature.

I loved the original FEAR. And I have waited for a sequel for a long time. But this demo shows how much the sequel falls short.

Everything about the demo seems outdated. The graphics are slightly improved over the original from 4 years ago but not as much as they should have been. The FPS is extremely low, textures low-res.

The audio is only so-so, too. Especially the guns. Coming from super-sounding fps games like CoD4 and WaW, this is a big let down.

But most of all it’s the gameplay. The physics engine is extremely buggy and bad. Your movement is horrible. It’s so slow, sluggish, exaggerated. Plus the head bobbing up and down is so annoying. When fps titles put in head bobbing it really makes me wonder WHY? Sure it adds a tiny bit of more realism but it makes the game less fun due to it’s high level of annoyance.

Movement in most modern fps titles that do very well in sales and reviews is precise, fast and brisk — Everything FEAR2 is NOT! FEAR1 wasn’t good in that department either but you’d think 4 years later they’d have caught up with the times.

Another annoyance is the light amount of fuzz on your screen/HUD as the game attempts to simulate you watching everything unfold on a screen of some sorts. It’s barely there but it’s enough to annoy the crap out of me.

The best thing about the demo is the mech suit ala Aliens. It’s interesting and pretty fun but I’m a fan of shooters that stay away from vehicles for the most part.

The scripted events intended to “scare” are very well-made just like the devs did in FEAR1. This is the only other part of the demo besides the mech suit which doesn’t disappoint me.

I went from saying I would definitely, 100% buy this game on launch day, to now where I am in no way buying it. I was hoping for a lot more. Sure it’s a demo but the game is shipping in less than 3 weeks so there’s no way these things will change much if at all.

If you don’t mind a bad physics engine, horrible movement, and annoying bobbing and fuzz in your HUD, then by all means, enjoy this game. I, for one, can’t put up with it.

For now, the FEAR franchise is dead to me. Maybe the devs will finally catch up to the times with FEAR3.

Mahjong next week? WTF? Ever since STHD, it’s been one garbage casual game after the next. Mix it up a little, where is R-type? Outrun? Arkanoid? Gridrunner? DoDonPachi? This better not all drop at the same time, much less after Halo Wars, Mythic Maps, SFIV. You are only shooting yourself in the foot doing this. We aren’t made of ms points, and neither are the casuals, so why drop all their games at once?

Definitely a fun demo, scared the crap out of me, and good graphics, but a little too short in my opinion.

Ye godz what a brilliant demo! Terrifying and beautiful I texted a friend to say how great it was.. and that’s before the mech section at the end that simply blew my shaken little mind. Wow, wow, wow!

Enjoyed the demo a lot, except for the mech part. WTH was that… is the game supposed to take place in in 2100 a.d. or something? The creepy mood was excellent, sounds, scripted events, almost everything was good… but about that robot… paraphrasing the AVGN, WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!?

You don’t have to use the mech ! Pre ordered, loved the original, hope the game is better, seems to be from the demo.

The demo was like a cross-slice of everything you get in the game. You get a taste of the scary stuff, weapons, GIBS and mech stuff. I won’t be suprised if this particular sequence in the demo is NOT in the final game.

It simply FEAR with a little more polish on it; and I mean a little. FEAR’s gameplay have always been SO-SO at best. If your in desperate need of a new FPS then you should be happy; but if you can wait – WAIT.

Lean mode has been taken out of the pc version. One of the main things that made the tactical aspect of F.E.A.R. so good.
I love how pc gamers have to suffer just because developers want their games to work on consoles.

regardless of my bitching, I will still be buying this.

I LOVED the first F.E.A.R game. Adding this to my download queue right now. Hopefully the spooky little girl is back in the sequel.

Playing this alone, late at night was a mistake. Damn, did they ever turn up the creepy in the demo =)
