Is it me or does this trial end really quickly? Like after 5 moves. Not really enough time to get a grip on how well the new flags mode works.

  • Danowat32

Minesweeper?, on the xbox360?, the mind boggles, at least its only 400MS points.

  • shadaik

I see, it’s getting back to the realms of reasonable pricing? That is very much appeciated.

  • emuholic

Poor excuse for a demo, only allowed a few moves before the trial screen appears. It took longer to download the game than to try and play it! I wont be buying this because the demo showed me nothing, even if it is only 400 points.

  • CryptoElite

So people are upset with an awesome game for $15, but a crappy game for $5 is OK?

  • Danowat32

I guess its subjective, one mans crap is another mans gold, but I for the life of me can’t fathom why someone would drop even 400 points on minesweeper…..

  • Warrengonline

You would not believe how many people love that game. I played that game way back in the 90’s, every time I hear its name, I think “Man, I wish I could play Dragon Warrior 1, 2 and 3 right about now.” The ONLY mines I like sweep’in are the ones in Bloody Wolf and Metal Gear. Oh and the underwater ones in TMNT (by ULTRA Games).

As long as the arcade never yelps “I’m melting, I’m melting… Whatta world, whatta world…” that never-ending argument will reign on.

  • Liu Ouija

    @ Danowat32 : Not just Minesweeper, Minesweeper… Flags.

    Minesweep the flag.

You got a problem with that?

  • Danowat32

Well if its got freakin flags in it, I am all over it!!!!.

I just love the delicous irony of Microsoft releasing a paid for, slightly spangly version of a game for its flagship games console that is has always had in its PC operating system for free since the year dot.

  • LausDomini

Pretty much any game with achievements and a leaderboard is worth five bucks. Just imagine the outcry if it were 800 MSP.

  • Anonymous

400 points?!?! wow, did hell freeze over last night?

  • Danowat32

[qoute]Pretty much any game with achievements and a leaderboard is worth five bucks.[/quote]

And its that exact thinking thats got us into this position now, MS know that they can slap “cheevs” on any old shite and it will sell by the bucketload to all the “cheev” whores.

Oh for the days when gaming was about gaming, and not about chasing “cheevs”.

  • ElektroDragon

Wow, now THIS is awesome. A double release day again (FINALLY!) and a 400 point game again (FINALLY!) To top it all off, the game actually seems to be interesting/fun/decent. Now if only Microsoft had not messed with the original royalty/licensing scheme for XBLA devs, we would have not have had a drought of quality games and reasonable prices. Hopefully that will change, and we will finally see PEGGLE!

  • darkjester74

We’re paying for Minesweeper now, are we?

Next week on XBLA: Freecell! Only 400MSP!

  • Arman Tamzarian

Shortest trial ever. I would have like to at least finished one game before the trial ended.

  • Sherrif Jimmy

Yes, for the bargain price of just 400MSP I can save myself the hassle of going to Start/All Programs/Games.

    Thank you Microsoft!

  • Exu

    Meh, Minesweeper’s always been crap.

  • Anonymous

This may well be the worst week on XBLA to date, which is really saying something as the quality has been dire since the ‘summer of arcade’.

  • loopingstar

I’ve actually never ever played minesweeper before ! I’ll have to Google it before I buy this one !
Agree with the guy who wanted ‘Peggle” , thats been one of my favorite games in recent years , played it to death on my Mac and it would make an awesome 360 arcade title.

  • Col J Matrix UK

    Yep, what a dire week.

The trial was hilarious as the developers knew that there’s not really much to minesweeper so limiting the game to a couple of gueses is the only way to differentiate a trial from a full game….pathetic.

Can we have some of these titles:

    Rock N Roll Racing
    Damage Incorporated
Marathon (original and Infinity, I know Durandal is on)
    Prime Target
    Warcraft? Warcraft 2 perhaps
    Avatar shoot em up
    Avatar sports
    Road Rash
Broken Sword games, I know they’re point and click but could be great

Can’t think of any others right now.

But god, minesweepers, asking money for a game that’s free with Windows computers…sucks

  • Gorkinlot

    Peggel and Space Invaders wanted

  • Casserole

Thanks, exactly what I needed since I deleted Minesweeper from the PC. Though I’m sure I had a reason for doing so…

  • Rhodes Royce

This is probably the worst idea of a game on XBLA ever, why isn’t it free? Don’t think anyone will be interested in purchasing minesweeper for 400 MS points when it’s free on your PC…

  • Karachi King

This isn’t the same game that’s free with Windows. Yes, it’s similar, but saying they are the same is like saying Quake is the same as Doom.

And for 400 points, there’s a fair chunk of content. The campaign mode alone has got to be at least 100 levels.

  • Warrengonline

Quake isn’t the same as Doom? Just kidding. Mr.Do would be awesome to add to the arcade also, with multiplayer online!

  • mannyman

The demo SUCKS. Even though it may suck to pay for a normally free minesweeper game, my girlfriend and I would have considered buying this game if it was at least decent considering it has an online multiplayer mode (we currently live 2 hours apart and we spend some weeknights playing on XBL together). However, you only get like 4 to 8 turns (depending on the mode). FOUR!!!! Then it just shuts off and tells you to buy the damn thing. Absolutely pathetic.

So they just cut off the few potential customers with a terrible demo. Hope this thing never sells, ever… unless they update with a better demo.

  • programad

Major, i bought the full version, ‘cos i love minesweep. But the FLAG game mode doesn’t work. It don’t allow us to flag the bombs, making the AI always victorious.

I think it needs a patch.

  • X Ray Hamburger

Lol the trial was funny, lasted about 3 seconds.

  • Karachi King

In the flags mode, you use the A button to flag mines, instead of the B button like in the other modes.
Confused me at first too. ;)

  • NaturlBrnKlr

I like to play this with Friends on MSN…but like most other here, totally turned off by the “trial version” you cannot really get a sense of the game. and its AI

  • Ollyh

    I’ll pass.

  • MastodonFarm

I might have bought this, but not after “playing” the ridiculous 30-second “demo.” Thanks for wasting my time, MS.

  • Baltie

I love Minesweeper. I’ve even got it on my phone. When I saw this for the X360, I thought “wow, I’ve got to download this”. But I thought I should download the trial first to see if it worked right and was fun. But no, the demo didn’t let me get any feel of the game at all. Five turns before the “buy me now please” screen? Ridiculous! You barely get to find any mines, let alone find out if the new game modes are any fun.

I might buy this in the future anyway just because it’s minesweeper, but right now, I’m put off by the demo.
