Arcade By Larry Hryb, Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson

  • SalamanderSkill

To start off: Who on earth thought this pricing was reasonable? That’s insane for each of them to be 800ms points!!!!!!!!

  • Fever84

yea its a bit steep 800 points for these classics when you can buy something like gw2 for 800 points and its 10 times the game

  • nastyswan

Are these just multiplayer or do they have AI players as well?

  • VEGEMITE 98

    ME!

  • Ndean

What a total rip-off. You could pick up the physical board games at a boot sale for less + board games on consoles are a hollow experiance. I wouldn’t buy them at 400mp let alone 800. FAIL.

  • VEGEMITE 98

hang on theres only four games on here wheres the rest I am prepared to pay for lot NOW, not in instalments!!

  • VEGEMITE 98

@Ndean your the fail, if your not gonna buy them fine, the whole world doesn’t need to know your issues with it!

  • BoomstickBuddha

Not a chance in hell. Maybe at 400 I would buy one, but 800 each? No way.

  • CosMick

    Ok so, The UK gets screwed with no Scrabble {The language we actually “invented”}

800 points for each game when it should be for all 3.

Oh and Hasbro Family Game Night shows up on your achievement list.

I’m sorry but this is truly awful on Microsofts part letting EA get away with this.

    Extortion!

  • WiNG C

I could consider 800 points for the whole pack of four or so games, but 800 points each? Sorry, not from me

  • AmazonianAngel

i wouldn’t mind if these were 400, but 800? “ARE YOU Shrink Wrapped??”
I’d pay 800+ for decent games.
Seems to me “shovel-ware” should also be applied to any console with these kinds of games in their library and not just the wii.

  • avgJones

I look forward to getting these games…6 months from now, when they reduce them to a more reasonable price.

  • Fever84

surely its a typeo and its 800 points for them all, there there is not even much to these games

  • VEGEMITE 98

OK download the free software purchase the games BUT it still says they are trial versions. whats going on!

  • ItsNymo

A part of me wishes I had two 1600 MS Point cards right now, but a bigger part of me wishes that each individual game (with additional modes) be a biit cheaper, like in the 400 MS point range.
I’ve been looking forward to the XBLA release, but the pricing is a little steep for many right now…

also: Expect to be charged for different ‘themes’ for your game room. Right now, you only get the ‘Modern’, while all the screenshots and videos showed us different themed rooms…

  • DM2

ouch thats a lot, and the only game that i may pay 800 points for isn’t available (I pressume thats a rights issue as I believe the a different company has the North American rights to scrabble than the rest of the world)

  • Fever84

i just checked there are 1400 points for this i guess there trying to pretend there worth 800 points each lol

  • ygor

800 each? You guys are crazy…

  • xWasted Ghostx

800 points per game???? ARE YOU FREAKING MAD??? It’s an EA game aint it, always milking us for more than their stuff is worth. I just played the trial for all the games, TOTALLY NOT WORTH 800 points! BOOOOO EA BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • ShadowWizard

I’m torn how I fell about this setup. Personally I love all of these games, but when it was announced I guess I just assumed it would be in one neat tiddy package. I will more than likey plunk the money down for Yahtzee, for it a game my wife and I enjoy very much. But from a cheapskate stand point I can do without connect 4. Boggle would have been a nice addition as well. To each his own though, I guess.

  • xWasted Ghostx

Well, back to Peggle I guess, that game was worth the points!

  • ShadowWizard

    @ItsNymo:
If you follow this link there are four extra room themes you can queue up. All are free. They are Girls room, Boys room, Secret Agent room, and Jungle themes.

    http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/media/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80258410981?cid=MajorNelson&partner=MajorNelson

  • TES7769

I was really looking forward to Hasbro Family Game Night but it looks like Microsoft has gone crazy, pricing each game at 800 points($10)each.I thought it was going to be an all-in-one game like many here, but to our surprize it’s not and neither will most of us be buying into HFGN AT ALL.

You would figure with the state of most of the world’s top economies in shambles, MS would try and price XBLA stuff a little more affordable for folks, but forget that idea. The pricing for the ‘Game Night stuff is beyond ridiculous, and i don’t expect many folks to bother with it and rightfully so.I won’t be, that’s for sure.

  • VEGEMITE 98

@DM2 no it’s because americans spell words incorrectly, and this version of scrabble is using dirty english. ie color, neighbor. at least they still teach the Queens english in Australia and New Zealand!

  • dreampage

And I thought that the whole package would be 800 Points… Oh my, what made me think that?

  • UnarmedGorilla

I have to agree with the group consensus here, 800 points for each game is a rip-off for an arcade title. I would actually feel a little less violated if they had bundled the games together on a disc and slapped a $50 price tag on it. These games would be great for my kids, but they’re nothing I can’t pull out of a bargain bin somewhere for the PC.

  • Avrilphile

Oh man, I did not see that coming. It felt like opening a bill and it being four times more than you were expecting. I guess it felt that way because I know I’m still going to buy these, maybe not all of them now that they are individually priced.

I hope the “deal of the week” next week is that these will all be 75% off. ;)

  • ShadowWizard

    @UnarmedGorilla
They did, it’s Hasbro Family Game Night for the WII. With a nice $40 price tag.

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9090949&st=hasbro+family+game+night&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1218019189135

  • Cottonjaws

    Too Dear… No Scrabble.. mehh…

  • ShadowWizard

A little more info on what the $40 Wii version gets you:
CONNECT FOUR, BATTLESHIP, YAHTZEE, BOGGLE, SORRY! and the all new, SORRY! Sliders.

    http://hasbro.ea.com/productlanding.action?productName=familygamenightwii&platform=wii

  • Priest Fact

I like how this game is 20 on the PS2 and 40 on the Wii, for every game. Not ten dollars per game. Sure there’s online play for the 360 but that doesn’t explain the mark up in price. And seriously, ten bucks for Yahtzee? That’s probably the biggest ripoff on the marketplace.

  • exprohound

800 points EACH is just madness, i thought it was 800 point for the entire package?

Major – as the community voice you must agree that this pricing is so unfair!

  • SuburbanBoy TM

Good grief, what on earth possessed the powers that be to price this so ridiculously high? I fully expected 1200 tops. Yet again you’ve cost yourself a sale, and at least 8 others on my friendslist who won’t be buying it now or further on down the line. If digital distribution is going to be the way forward it needs to be sensibly priced. Remember all this bollocks we’ve been fed about how piracy causes prices to skyrocket? Well were dealing with an unpiratable medium here as far as I’m aware. and given the slight amount of money per sale that is normally shared between developers/publishers someone is getting an obscenely large slice of the pie at the expense of the customer. And people aren’t going to stand for it much longer. Quite frankly its disgusting the BS we keep getting fed!

  • emuholic

Put your hands up, we are robbing you of your MS points!

At 400 points each I might have bought Yahtzee and Battleships, but at 800 points each it is too expensive for games of this type. They should have just charged 800-1200 points for the whole lot.

This is a very sneaky way of overpricing games, I hope we do not see it again.

  • Domar 85

With those prices don’t even bother releasing them in Denmark…

  • Shiaoran

$40 for a bunch of games that are 1000 times LESS fun to play virtually?
I’d rather go buy all their physical versions for $30 or less…

  • Rossa AU

I have to agree with most people here. 800 each is a bit much to ask for…..i mean honestly, what was EA thinking when they said “I know!!!! Lets make them 800 each”……yea there is 1400 gamerscore involved, but wow it’s kinda sad.

Also what’s with the trials? you can’t even play 1 full game of something? it lasts a few seconds then BAM trial over……i may put some cash down for 1 or 2 at the most, but still……..

  • hotwheelsdavid

OMFG this has gone beyond all pricing that has been done before . I was kinda looking forward to this . little did i know they was gonna charge for each game

  • AriesDog

    TES7769, it’s EA not Microsoft.

  • hotwheelsdavid

oh and the only one i was cosidering aint avalible outside usa and canada :(

  • AriesDog

I can kind of see 800 MS points for Scrabble but the same amount for Battleship or Connect 4? Ridiculous!

  • A Place for Us

OMG. Let me guess – EA? I thought a bundled pack of these titles for 1200 MSP would surely have been enough. What a complete rip-off.

  • Doctor Seleski

Why was I under the impression that these games would come bundled in one package? Not worth it… FAIL!

  • MonkeyChewer

No Scrabble in the UK – WTF?

That was the game which would have hooked me in and (don’t shoot me down fellow posters) I would have paid 1200 points for it.

The other games are too expensive at 800 points each. 400 and I might have had a look.

As it is, I will not be bothering with this release at all.

  • Rdeal

I usually buy most arcade games but i draw the line here 800 points is far too much.
A good dev team could knock each one of those games up in a month and your asking that much i was expecting 1200 for the lot,the only game i would have bought for 800 was scrabble but that aint available in my region

  • X Reza X

800 each?!?!?!?! I thought 1200 for ‘Death Tank’ was overpriced but this is just cruel.

  • Watson SE

You must be kidding!?! 800 points PER GAME…!! I thought they were 800 for the whole set, which I would have bought.
@Domar 85 – I agree and can just add the same for Sweden. Don’t bother releasing Yahtzee in Sweden.

I mean look at it as: Buy “Arcade Hasbro Family Game Night” – four mini-games for only 3200 MS points. THAT IS MORE THAN HALF OF A REGULAR RETAIL GAME!!

  • Watson SE

@Doctor Seleski – Exactly! Judging on Majors’ show £311, it seemed like he thought so too (or that how I interpreted it).

  • JoeyCoolNutzz

I will not buy any of these

  • Huddy72

Be interesting to see how many of these games appear on the “LIVE Activity for the week” next week.

  • Alex Atkin UK

As others are saying, I “might” consider these if it was 800 points for the whole lot but 800 points each is insane.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there are community games versions of some of these for a lot cheaper. There are certainly free playable versions of these games on the web.

  • amacvane

In reality though, all of these games (see Wathcmen: The End Is Night) will make it to the top-ten Arcade downloads next week. And no, that’s not because the rest of the Arcade games aren’t being downloaded… it’s because people are interested in a new experience, and since these are games that many of us grew up with, they’re especially willing to pay these high prices.

It happens (almost) every week: ridiculously over-priced Arcade game comes out, everyone makes a big fuss in the comments, said Arcade game launches to #1 on the top-ten Arcade list.

  • r3dreck

800 EACH?!?! What? Was going to buy it but didn’t know it was 800 each, NO WAY.

  • MetalGearFloppy

    Lmao… that’s insane pricing!!!

The only one I would of considered at that price would be scrabble, but obviously there’s no version for the UK, where the language was invented… pretty stupid really don’t ya think?
Will there ever be versions of scrabble for countires outside the US and canada? eh?

Me n the guys on my friendslist were looking forward to this release, but at 800pts each I think you just lost a whole bunch of sales. Which moron decided on those prices? Seriously!

There’s been a lot of complaint both here, xbox.com forums and elsewhere on the web about microsofts current pricing levels… do you guys not listen to people? or do you not care?

  • oue

Right now this game is $40 but were is BOGGLE, SORRY! and the all new, SORRY! Sliders?? Is that going to be another $30?? FULL GAME WILL BE $70?? On the Wii the full game is only $39.99!!!

  • aseddon130

a huge ripoff. i was sorta looking forward to getting this pack too. should be 1200 points for the lot, 800 each is scandalous.

  • S H O O T 3 R Z

i just signed in to say WOW

    @oue

    same thing i was thinking

    @aseddon130

    scandalous indeed m8 lol

  • Computerdude103

I was thinking the whole package would be 800 points. I can’t believe this pricing structure, none of these games are even that in depth.

  • RetroZoon

Jesus christ you people cry about everything. Get a life.

  • FoolInjection

What the hell. Why is Scrabble now avaliable in the UK when we INVENTED the damn language.

    Microsoft YOU SUCK !. HARD.

  • SuburbanBoy TM

Clearly they don’t care. Nor do they realise just how much it is costing them in the long run. I’d estimate they have lost at least £200 (~ $300) of my own business in the past year or so. And the people in our clan all feel the same way.

As for the scrabble issue, I remember reading ages ago that a different company own the rights to it in the UK, when a furore arose on Facebook over it

  • amacvane

RetroZoon = Scared shitless EA developer
    …or diehard Hasbro fan.

  • S H O O T 3 R Z

    HA HA HA

  • XboxLiveAware

@MetalGearFloppy The reason that there is no Scrabble outside the US and Canada is probably because they are a not allowed to since Hasbro does not distribute the game outside that area. They would get sued.

  • XboxLiveAware

Also I did buy scrabble but that is the only one I can see buying for these prices. I would have paid 1200 MS points for all of them and even maybe 1600. I did go and look up how much the original board games cost and man even those cost more than I thought they would $20-$25 for Connect 4???? Though Yatzee is only $9.

  • Captain Bluey

The pricing of these games makes Deathtank look cheap.

I’m voting with my wallet and not buying any of them. Get real EA.

  • Jicky Jacks

800 pts for EACH?!?! Seriously??? WHo in their right mind would pay $10 for Connect 4. On top of that I saw no mention of Boggle and other games not even being available right now. This is just ridiculous. Was prepared to fork over 800 points easy for the lot, but I won’t drop a dime on any now.

  • N3WB13 R0N

Not buying any of these games ether.. What a way to say goodbye to customers on a new idea hasbo has to offer.. its great to see hasbro is in the xbla now but really this could of mad a better retail copy from more people then a install copy like this.. no way am i buying.. later me waiting for next week..

  • DJ Double J

Mediocre games at premium prices, keep shoveling it out, EA. Maybe the consumers will finally get the hint.

  • Sneeches

800pts each game??? This is a effin rip off!!!!!!!!

  • mattricks1983

Yep pricing on these games is crazy.

Outrun is out next week though! So it’s not all bad :)

  • Interceptor Lee

    This is a total RIP-OFF

In the UK, the Wii Hasbro Family Game Night – featuring ALL the games (including the ones not yet released – Sorry and Sorry Sliders) is just £17.99. The PS2 version is £13.72

In American money, thats $25 and $19 respectively.

Buying all 6 games on XBLA @ 800 points each will cost us 4800 MS Points which is £40.80/$57

They should be 400 points each AT THE VERY MAXIMUM

  • Shadow0810

wow, really? 800msp. I MIGHT consider it at 1200msp for the whole thing

  • Muzzymate

I think we can finally say that the 400msp price point is officially dead. 800msp for Connect 4?!? Really?!?

Also curious about the lack of Sorry. That’s the one I was looking for since my friends and family are all Sorry nuts.

  • Twilight Miasma

Forget this crap, would have been nice to play some good ‘ol games when they are cheap! This is highway robbery. I would rather pay for the real games for cheaper and be around with actual people than be robbed blind of my money for this.

  • leViroth

800 points per game for games you can get for free on the side of the road when a yard sale ends, yeah I think I’ll pass.

  • Danowat32

Just when you think things can’t get worse, BAM!, you get this, 800pts for Connect four?, I’ll have some of whatever the marketing team are smoking.

Its the old bait and switch, bait us into a false sense of security with a decent marketplace release (Peggle for 800pts) then switch back to the good ol nickel & diming marketplace we all know and love ;)

  • RainbowDespair

Why on earth is this game so expensive when the same game is available for the PS2 for $20 with all of the board games? Digitally distributed games aren’t supposed to be more expensive than their retail counterparts.

  • Arman Tamzarian

800 ms points for Connect 4?? Pretty sneaking sis!

  • twisted poke

LOL at ten dollars for Connect Four and Battleship. LOL even harder at the people who actually buy this crap at that price.

  • amacvane

@mattricks1983: Unless it’s released for 1600 points. Then it’s “all bad”.

  • metallicorphan

as much as i like my 360 and Microsofts support for it and its games(DLC etc)…you have to admit Microsoft have totally lost the plot with its arcade section,i would be very suprised if anyone went for these prices …but whats more unsettling is that overpricing for arcade games has been happening for a while now

  • krisxx

When they announced a few weeks back that EACH game would be individually priced, EVERYONE hoped for $5 each. But I think in the back of everyone’s mind, we all knew they were going to charge $10 each, and we just couldn’t admit it since it was such insane pricing. I am not surprised at all, but just very annoyed at the pricing.

  • Danowat32

Unfortunatly, people DO buy this overpriced crapola from the marketplace, that is part (the majority) of the problem.

  • GeekdadCanada

The reason Scrabble is only available in US and Canada is because Hasbro only owns Scrabble’s rights in Canada and the US. Mattel owns the rights everywhere else in the world.

As for the prices, if you don’t like it, don’t buy it. Stop your whining. I for one love the family friendly games, and the Wii version of the game costs more.

  • DJThomasMelvin

Terrible, terrible pricing. I’ve been known to defend some of the more expensive stuff in the past but no way this time.

  • Lynch182

@ Rossa AU i guess if the trial game of connect 4 allowed you to finish a game, then that would be a free game right??? what else can you do?? hahaha. microsoft are over pricing everything (wireless headset, wireless adaptor, games, xbox live etc) probably making up for the 1.1 billion dollars worth of repair costs seen as they couldn’t make a proper console.
all i can hope for is for you guys (the people) to see what is going on and to keep moaning about it on here and to your friends and don’t buy this crap, thats the only way things will change!!

also scrabble not using proper english?!?! its like they’ve started playing football with their hands!!!! lol

  • MrGreen13

I just wanted to say that I’m disgusted with this! My wife and I were really looking forward to this too…will not be buying now!

  • tabicat

800 points each??? Forget it. The price should be 800 points for all four together.

  • wolfzero01

sad thing is that even with these ridiculous prices, enough people will buy these games for them to show up in the top ten activity list, thus justifying to MS that nobody cares about the price of games.

look at the Watchman game it is number 4

  • SilverFireshot

I was hoping to pick up Sorry! and Scrabble today. I guess I’ll just be getting Scrabble. Scrabble and Sorry! are at least $10 in retail stores and these give you online play, so you can play with other people when nobody else wants to play. Connect Four and Yahtzee I agree are probably a bit overpriced.

Monopoly was $40 with no online play, they could have gone that route with these games.

  • Anonymous

jesus what a rip off, 800 points a game ?

why are they not in a total package.

    EPIC FAIL

    Not touching these.

  • Lucg71

I’ve been looking forward to this game since I first heard about it a month or so ago. I was fully planning on spending 800-1200 points for it. But now that its been released, there’s no way that I’m spending 800 points per game. that’s 3200 just for these 4, and another 800 for when Sorry comes out. 4000 points, or around 50$ Canadian (currently a 2800 point card goes for 40$). At least with a 50$ disc I can resell it or exchange it for other games. With an Arcade download I don’t have that option. EA/MS, you’ve just charged yourself out of another sale.

As far as to why Scrabble is only available in North America, it has 100% to do with rights. Hasbro only owns the rights to Scrabble in North America, and Mattel owns the rights for all other countries.
Now excuse me while I go back to playing my FREE scrabble on facebook.

  • Mr Field

Those prices are madness. No chance am I paying 800 points for EACH of those.

  • oxymoronx420

F’n Hell… So first I grab up this monopoly retail game and take er up the pooper from hasbro…
Then I see these games advertised a lil while back on a few sites, expecting at most 1600 MSP for the whole deal.

    What is going on MS?
Seriously, throw all of these dinky games on a dvd and sell it for 39.99 and then at least the game could be resold after our 360′s die and we move on to something else.

Selling family game night as an arcade package of DLC is a horrible plan and I hope a few departments worth of people at hasbro, EA and MS get turfed because of this ridiculous plan to soak Xbox 360 gamers for more money than players on any other console.

  • Cardy69

i was looking forward to these games but at 3200 microsoft points they have got to be joking! Il go buy Halo Wars instead..

  • oAssassin Xo

WTF!!!! See when I heard about this originally they made it sound like it was a giant package deal. Heck I’d pay 1600 for it all.
    .
.But theres NO WAY I would pay 800 for any of these games by themselves. Not even 400. Give me a break. You know how many times I’ve bought these games through the years. SCREW YOU HASBRO! Do it right or don’t bother. Er…unless its MS…oh wait it is of course. They set the pricing options.
    .
    .
You know what. We complain about these companies like AIG and all that. Whats funny is Microsoft is really the same. Big company heads making multiple digits during a rough economy while having their their company charge ridiculous amounts. They aren’t helping the economy boom at all. Low prices will do that. Now these high prices.

  • Pastel360

    what ? 800 ms points ? 400 maybe but 800 ? yeah not buying those :P

  • DevsterC

Major is not “the voice of the community”. He’s the Microsoft voice TO the community. Company line folks, company line.

At least the GSBlog folks had the stones (sorry DirtyDiva) to criticize when something was garbage.

  • Nod Nolan

    Absolutely idiotic pricing.

EA probably decided on the price level but for Microsoft to launch its “Days of Arcade” promotion with this is a HUGE error of judgement.

What a way to sour the taste at the very beginning.

  • n3rfherd3r

Wow. Very expensive. I also thought the whole package was around 800 and up. Too much

  • SuperMuchBrown

WTF People. All told this is a full retail release at 60 bucks … they are breaking up the game up so you can choose which parts you want … there are 6 games in the full game can you do math? guess not.

  • InvaderSpluge

Ridiculous price, wtf are you thinking.

  • Stormgeist

I have to agree with the majority on this one – 800 pts. apiece is a bit steep. You can get the actual physical games for that price.

Also, I’m a little late on this, but to those who complained about the 800 pt. price of Peggle on XBLA saying you could buy the pc version for 5 dollars… The XBLA version is actually Peggle Deluxe, which costs $20 on the pc. So, you save $10 bucks on the 360 version.

Although… If you buy the pc version for $20, you also get Peggle Nights.

  • DanFilth

It’s not such a big deal, jeez. If this was a store release, I can see it being $39.99 or more. At least here you can just pick the games you want. Stop crying all the time.

  • MyJewlzHurt

Unless I get hit in the head with the “stupid stick”, I’m not buying this….even then wouldn’t be dumb enough….too pricey.

  • dbert721

I’ll add my voice to the din- too expensive. I don’t mind the ala carte option, but these games aren’t worth more than 400 points apiece.

Instead of complaining here, though, vote with your wallets. That’s the only way these folks will hear you.

  • X Ray Hamburger

Man it’s a shame cause this was a good concept too. But with all the other content coming out I wont be getting any of these. They should of just charged $30 for the whole lot, including the ones not released yet.

Big fan of Battleship tho, but I’d imagine it would be impossible to play local two player matches lol. I’ll just go to the thrift store and pick that up, think it’s like $2.

  • StaticFree

Like everyone else has already said, these are priced much too high. I guess it’s possible that I would play the demos and get blown away but I doubt it.

  • Muhnamana

    Booooo!

I thought the whole package would be 800 points as well.

I think the saying goes…Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

  • ShaggyB

Wow. Ok I was considering this one for Battleship and Connect4 because i figured it would be 800 – 1200 points…

but 800 a game…. sorry, thats way too much 2,400 points aka $40?

  • Travsam

    800 * 8 = 6400 MPs… I think EA would have more luck if they sell all the package in a DVD….

  • AnEternalEnigma

All these games are 100% rip-offs. Plain and simple.

  • Turtle502

The “if this were a retail package, it would cost $40″ argument doesn’t fly, because this is DIGITAL DISTRIBUTION, and there’s nothing to manufacture! There’s no cost for the discs, packaging, manuals, or shipping/handling/production costs. Other than bandwidth and storage space, there’s no cost for this distribution. Even if digital distribution costs an “astronomical” $1 per game, 800 points is STILL too high.
    -
I was looking forward to this, too. I’ll save my points for FO3 DLC.

  • Shamrock

What a joke…lol Just to punish these greedy punks I’m not buying any of them now.

  • n3rfherd3r

If you are going to say that this all together is the same price as a full retail release, where is the bow art and disk? Oh, they don’t have to produce that with this one, and is a download. I cannot help but think that if this was a full priced release in the retailers, it would not be a $60 title. It would be more like $30 to $40.

  • Jicky Jacks

I think most people want to buy these games in order to play online with family and friends. If you buy the actual board game, you only need one version to play with family and friends. But, with the digital version each person needs to buy a copy. So what was “only” $10 becomes $20-$40 to play the game for each family/friend group. I could see my dad and I laying down $10 total to play Boggle, but probably not $10 EACH… On top that, most people who buy these games already own the board game versions and are now being asked to fork over an additional $10 to play the digital version of a game they already own.

  • DesertBear360

Here goes another EA shafting. They could have made it one entire game like Spyglass did and sold it for 1600 points and it would have gotten a better response. 800 points for each game is a rip.

  • Bandito Lobster

I was, I repeat WAS, excited about this game coming out, but the more I learn about the overpriced add-ons, the less and less excited I get. It would make some sense if the add-ons were 400 points apiece instead of 800. Then purchasing all of the add-ons off of the marketplace, would add up to the purchase price of the same games on another console. Actually I checked and it STILL would be even more than the purchase price of this game on other consoles. I just checked and the PS2 version of this game is available for $20! That’s right for just $20 you get all of the games on a physical disc and those same games in a download version for the 360 would cost you $70. Pricing very, very out of proportion for this console alone.

I think anybody who already has one of the other consoles will overlook the XBLA version and buy it on their other platform of choice. It’s what I am going to recommend to all of my friends. I have three young kids and would most likely buy this on for the 360 if the pricing wasn’t so grossly disproportionate from the other offerings. The pricing structure doesn’t make much marketing sense, this product isn’t an 360 exclusive, it’s not a braid, or a castle crashers, something worthy of a higher price point, it’s board games. All the XBLA pricing does is get people torqued and drive the sales up of this product on other platforms. Hopefully they listen to the community and reduce the price at some point. I am not even going to download the free demo of this.

  • N3WB13 R0N

please make it possible that when you buy the board game you get a free microsoft code inside for a digital copy of this game.. *crosses his fingers* maybe hasbo can learn.. :D

  • Turtle502

and then when sales are low…they’ll say “there’s no market for this stuff”, and we won’t see stuff like this ever again. the market is there, the pricing is wrong.

  • Ndean

@VEGEMITE 98 – I am entitled to my opinion and I am also entitled to voice my opinion. Shouldn’t you under a bridge somewhere waiting for some goats to try and cross?

  • ShaggyB

exprohound: “800 points EACH is just madness”
No “This is Sparta”… ok sorry

  • DesertBear360

Just to think that it would cost $60 (4000 MSP) just for all the games Hasbro Family Game Night.

  • DesertBear360

I’ll be wait for them to drop to either 400 or less or even free before I get the full versions.

  • ushman360

Holy rip-off Major. I love that they can charge more for less ie.. disc & manauls. What a bunch of con artists.

  • Faramir82

I’ll try out the trial versions and them buy them……when they drop the price to something more reasonable. $10 a game, I can head over to Fail-Mart or Target and buy the actual board game for that much. Then I would have actual human interaction.

  • CaptainBob23

Yep, definitely not buying them at 800MP. I would most likely buy all of them at 400MP however.

  • n3rfherd3r

    @ Turtle502

You are so right. I think we were all a little excited to play this. Nice throw backs, family interaction.

It’s not that we want it for free, but its that to completely enjoy it is a rip.

  • ShaggyB

After thinking about it…. I think 400 a game is the price it should be. $5 a game doesnt seem crazy to ask. Now given yahtzee at $5 is a rip off compared to Scrabble at $5…. But i think you follow me.

Ea missed the boat. The more i think about it the more i like that you dont have to buy all 4 games if you only like 2… for me connect4 holds a personal value (my grandfather and i use to play it near 30 years ago, and he has passed on so it would bring back memories.) Likewise Battleship was always a fun game to play with a neighbor or sister/brother/cousin…. So while yahtzee is not appealing at any price to me i would have paid 800-1200 and been fine with it for all 4… hell id probably fork out 1600 because for all 4… but if you are going to divide them up into 4 selectable games…. You really should price them better. These are games most of us have in board game format. These are games that can be played for free on java websites. Likewise these are games that on other systems are priced more affordable (see the wii with 3 more games at the same cost.)

EA i applaud your decision to allow us to buy what we want… but i do not feel you have wisely priced these games…. scrabble and battleship i can see being $10 at most… but yahtzee and connect4 are clearly not worth that.

  • Anonymous

My wife and I were so looking forward to these games, but for 800 pts a piece F-THAT!!! You al have lost your damn minds!!!!$40 for the whole package…..please. I cant wait to see the Aracade top ten list next month. I’ll bet the games dont even break the #5 spot.

  • ShaggyB

oh even more fun… they are planning to milk it….

    http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/family-game-night/achievements/

shows that there are 1400 achievements and the first in the list is for Boogle.

Also listed are achievements for Sorry and Sorry Sliders…. seems to be 200 per game. Hence the 1400 for the 7 games…..

  • Anonymous

    @ ShaggyB

I just noticed that, what a bunch of crap, So get get all the achievements we’ll need to buy every game. UNREAL!

  • El Capitaine

I would have considered it for 800pts for the whole pack, but even then I likely would have passed.

The economy is in shambles. I still have yet to buy Peggle (yes, I know). This is kicking of the Days of Arcade, which has quite a few games I might buy. And they think I’m going to pay 800msp for Connect 4? WTF?

I mean, Peggle I can play for free online, but I’d buy it anyway because its awesome and it has achievements. I own the orange box, but I bought Portal: SA because its awesome and it has extra levels and more achievemetns.

I don’t I would play any of these on the web, much less for $10 on my 360. Maybe Scrabble, but even that, I’d just think, I’d rather play real Scrabble

  • Special C

Why does everyone think this should be cheaper than the Wii version? With the added bonus of not having to buy the ones you don’t want?

  • UnarmedGorilla

Oh boy, is it just me or has this pricing bs really struck a nerve. I think at this point we’d be better off hammering the EA forums with our complaints, since I don’t think it’s doing much good here. Boycott this arcade title and go buy the real deal (for those who don’t already own a physical version of scrabble… shame on you). Family game night is supposed to be about spending quality time sitting around a table interacting with actual people… not the TV.

  • Shafnitz

I’m not one that typically complains about prices on XBLA, but this is ridiculous. I’d love to have these games for my family to play, but you’re not getting my money this time.

  • ElektroDragon

Just be glad they are not 1200 points each! I bet they considered that, too. This is why I bought about 6000 points recently on sale on eBay. It feels good to literally buy cash at a discount.

  • rogXue

You know, I love the people who complained in the first few pages that show one of the titles as their last played game. If you aren’t going to stick to your guns then don’t post a complaint about the price… Bitching then buying does nothing to help keep prices low…

  • rogXue

I need to add AND have earned achievements. sorry don’t mean to toss the demo group in there as well.

  • NBA2kChico

    WTF……dont buy this….
    connect 4 should be free….

  • Jicky Jacks

“You know, I love the people who complained in the first few pages that show one of the titles as their last played game. If you aren’t going to stick to your guns then don’t post a complaint about the price… Bitching then buying does nothing to help keep prices low…”

@rogXue It’s the last “played” game probably cause they downloaded it (it’s free to download and then you pay for the games inside the “game”), saw the games were $10 each, laughed, and backed out. That’s what I did anyways.

  • KineticOnline

At 800 points the only game i would have considered buying is scrabble, the rest i wouldnt think twice about unless they are 400 points or less.

Unfortunately I cant even do that. You’d think EA/Hasbro would have the sence to make a deal with Mattel for scrabble so they can realease it else where. Even if they make half the profit of the US version its a huge gain in potential downloads with with minimal effort.

EA prove one more time they have no idea what normal people are willing to spend or what they want.

  • rogXue

Yeah Jicky, I posted before completing my thought. I added to my post to exclude the demo group. Sorry about that.

  • RavenousLou

No thanks. I can just play most of these for free on the web with a friend, and while they’re taking their turn I’ll get some peggle in on my xbox.

  • metallicorphan

apart from the price which is mad, they could of at least given us a bit longer at playing the trial games…i swear they only let you play connect 4 for less than 30 seconds

  • TheGrooveJesus

    @GeekdadCanada

Seriously, you willing to buy minigames for 800 points each?? If you buy the whole lot when they are all out, that is about 60 dollars wasted on small limited board games. Seriously, all of these games look effortless and are just a cash-in for EA and Hasbro.

    Hmmm lets see.

Dishwasher or Connect Four. HD awesomeness with lengthy and in depth storyline, awesome animation, and huge replayability OR stupid cash-in board game that I can easily make my own or buy a physical copy for $2 at a yard sale.

    THEY ARE THE SAME PRICE!!

Seriously just try and guess which one I will buy.

Please everyone. No-one buy this crap. Let the word be known to everyone. Once Hasbro and EA see very poor sales, they might decrease the price of these games. All are not even released yet for God’s sake.

  • ToothlessFrog

$10 each! Is EA insane? Give me a break, I can pick these up at my local walmart cheaper than that! Grrrrr, I really was looking forward to these games… MS really needed to step in and tell them their pricing was off. That is just rediculous. The only games I would pay that much for would be Monopoly and Risk, though scrabble is tempting, but the rest? Ahahahaha… sadness and madness!

  • BFBeast666

And I was nearly there to lift my inhouse EA ban. After Desd Space and Mirror’s Edge it looked as though EA was mending their evil robber baron ways, but oh well.

No cookie… um MSP for you!

  • xWasted Ghostx

Well Ea likes to make a mess of some of their games, Monopoly, which is a brilliant game but no xbox live??????? WTF IS WRONG WITH EA, I love their sports games but I am pretty sure whoever is in charge of EA R and D needs to be fired. A quick look at EA’s recent OMG WTF ARE YOU DOING games, Army of Two (why the hell can you only play with people in your country i will never understand why they did this, hence why the game didn’t sell) Need for speed, they just seemed to throw the last one together. Monopoly, no XBL multiplayer, again they prolly sitting there at their desks wondering why it didn’t sell so well. I could go on and on. Good Ea games though, Madden, NHL, Nascar, NBA, Tiger Woods to name a few. I don’t get EA There has to be more to the story like other companies involved with making the games or something……… EA YOU GOTA REDEEM YOURSELVES SOON OR PEOPLE AREN’T GONNA BUY YOUR GAMES!

  • xWasted Ghostx

hahahaha funiest thing of the night, major went from hasbro trial version to peggle…. I TELL YOU ALL PEGGLE IS WORTH IT!!!!!

  • KP ScuzzyBunny

Some others and myself brought this pricing up when MN first announced the “Days of Arcade”, and I don’t think anyone believed us…it IS very discouraging, and makes it very difficult to justify getting all 7 games (especially when Connect 4 and Battleship come with two different “modes” (classic, and a newer “enhanced mode with different rules/ pieces), yet Sorry and it’s enhanced game are separate). This version has more than the Wii/ PS2 versions, and of course adds online and looks nicer (and to anyone wondering, if multiplayer Battleship works on those without online, it SHOULD work on the 360 version on one screen…somehow!), but still, looking at 7 games, priced at 800 each, hurts. Anyone know a retailer doing buy one get one free on MS point cards???

  • Ganon255

I picked all of them. The prices are ok, but it would have been nice if they offered a discount if you buy in a bundle.

  • darkjester74

    Dear EA…

So in order to obtain the entire package on offer here, 7 games at $10 a pop is $70. (There are 7 games according to the Hasbro Game Night product description) You honestly expect us to pay $70 for a collection of age old board games, which presumably was built on a shoestring budget. Considering that AAA, multi-million dollar titles, such as Resident Evil are priced at $60.

Let me say that again…You want SEVENTY DOLLARS for an XBLA title. At retail, this collection would sell for PERHAPS $40. This defies all reasonable expectations. You really need to rethink your pricing strategy.

    Dear Larry…

Sorry that your blog gets assaulted with nerdrage. After all you are just the messenger. :(

  • GeekdadCanada

Yes, I bought three of these games as soon as they came out. I have three small kids, and we’ll have tons of fun. It’s much better than buying the actual board games, losing parts etc.

I bet hardly any of the people whining of the price aren’t parents. Given the choice of purchasing the individual games on XBLA with the bonus of online play vs buying the Wii version, I think it’s well worth it.

  • Cayne

Not a chance at this price point. Does Hasbro know we are in a worldwide depression?

  • sleepydumbdude

Should’ve put them in two packs or something for 800. I might get Scrabble but don’t see any of the others worth the price.
I used to have yatzee and sorry on pc and always found them real boring without physically rolling the dice. Also 800 for Connect 4 wtf? Better show me some pornography or something when I connect 4 for that price.

  • sleepydumbdude

Now if someone every made Risk for 360 I’d pay 1600 for it (not that I would want them to price it at that but it still retails for the board game at 22 dollars at most places near me). I love that game and hard to get a good game going unless you know a lot of people with time to play it.

  • loopingstar

What a bargain ! A mere 4800 points for an arcade title . I don’t see why people are complaining ! It’s not as if you could go on Amazon or shoot down to Game and pick up the complete 6 game bundle for the Wii or PS2 for only £14.99 . 4800 points – thats only £ 45 !!!!!!!!
Without a doubt the biggest Microsoft / EA pricing scam yet . What an awesome start to the days of arcade .
Because I’m a Yahtzee addict anyway I may have to fork out the 800 points just for that , but no way I’m touching the rest .
Whats next ……… 5000 points for Our Run arcade ?

  • Ozzzy189

No scrabble in the uk, no cpu scrabble to play against either ? 800 points each ! No friggin way. THIS IS A RIP OFF. Oh, and thanks microsoft, i had 400 points just disappear off my account, will they do anything ? No they won’t, so they can stick their arcade games up their arse.

  • Jicky Jacks

@GeekdadCanada I have two young kids and we were VERY much looking forward to playing these games, but I just can’t justify it for these prices. We have all of the actual board games, which makes it even more hard to justify the purchase. Especially with the economy like it is.

If anyone is looking for good, reasonably priced board games on xbla, look no further than Catan, Carcassonne, Ticket to Ride, and Lost Cities. Each of those games offer a TON more depth and at the same price. Not to mention those board games (minus Lost Cities) are hard to find in a store under $25 anywhere.

  • Computerdude103

Just when I thought EA was out of the toilet and doing pretty well.

  • VinnieDaMac

    800 points for Connect 4……lol

  • Oatmeal25

It’s pointless to post an objection to the price. EA, Hasbro and Microsoft don’t care how ridiculous their pricing is.

    I’ll vote with my wallet.

p.s. these games came free with a box of cereal 5 years ago

  • loopingstar

Despite wanting Yahtzee so badly I just couldn’t do it , this time theres no way I’m lining those deep EA pockets – I’ll spend my 800 points on Doom and Zuma – Call it a protest purchase – id and popcap deserve my cash more than EA . The Days Of Arcade – The darkest day yet for Microsoft’s flagship digital games distribution platform – people ‘aint gonna swallow this one .
…….all these comments and no word from the mighty Major – what a surprise !

  • KnightOfYeshua

Hahahah! I can’t believe how upset people are over the pricing of these games. It is not highway robbery. No one is forcing you to purchase these. Highway robbery as hyperbole would be going to the only gas station within 100 miles and paying 3 dollars more per gallon than the rest of the country.

If you don’t like the price, don’t buy it. The real world economy will influence the digital one and prices will be lowered or the parties involved won’t make money.

As usual, if you don’t like it at this price, don’t buy it.

  • Lynch182

@ knightofyeshua if people dont moan and complain then nothing will get done. let people show their disastisfaction without your comments, i think everyone knows that no one is forcing them to buy these over priced games, the point is that people actually wanted to buy them!!! big difference!! people with kids and so on. I think that if all the games were 1600 ms points (as a bundle) they will sell a thousand times over and they would probably make more profit that way, plus add ons and themes which will no doubt come later on.

how come nobody from microsoft comes on to have webchats with paying members of the xbox live community!! let people voice opinions. guitar hero producers had a big forum where people request songs and improvements for games and they are adding it in the new metallica game. microsoft need to learn!! once sony catch up with a decent dashboard and online setup things will change.

  • technofranki

The prices for these games are way too high. It should have been 800 in total.

  • AnEternalEnigma

Would as many people have bought Uno if it was 800MSP? I doubt it. They are shooting themselves in the foot.

    $10 for Connect 4? Wow.

  • Gamewatcher

If this were even half the price, I would get some MS points for my dad so my 6-year-old could play his grandpa over XBL. As it is, I’m going to limit this to must haves for my son (Connect 4, Yahtzee and Battleship) and no Grandpa purchases.

If EA really wants these to take off, they would price them appropriately. Seriously, these could be extremely popular at the right price point and they would make back the difference in unit pricing on volume. And have a hit! And people would be lining up for Boggle, Sorry and any other future expansions (like Clue!).

  • Shonk

Lets see £47.60 for the 5400ms points to buy this i think i will pass

I would have paid 800 for the whole game maybe

but come on ea and ms are loosing the plot

  • Obienator

Vote with your money folks, say no to overpriced shovelware!

  • AnotherSociety

just bought all of them there but is scrabble coming to europe????

  • Romaen

Ticket to Ride doesn’t sound so ridiculous anymore does it guys? LOL.

  • Major Nelson

I did some asking around and found out that the Wii and PS2 have six games, while the Xbox 360 will have all six, plus Scrabble (only on Xbox 360) and then two more games down the road. All of them will have multiplayer as well.

Not sure if that helps, but I thought I’d clear a few things up.

  • Quicksilver4648

Ahhhahhhah. I was going to buy this at first… till I realized they cost 800 points each. This one game is now up to $40, forget that.

  • Shelldragon3

Continuing the expression of outrage: $40 for all four.. No thanks..I’ll just play Scrabble online for free on my PC.

  • GeekdadCanada

    Board games price (on toys-r-us):

    Connect 4: $17.99
    Battleship: $19.99
    Yahtzee: $14.99
    Scrabble: $11.97

I’m sure this is what Hasbro was comparing the price to. Personally I like having the XBLA games over the physical board games, but it’s not for everyone.

  • Turtle502

    @GeekDadCanada
Sorry, I’m a dad here. Won’t pay $10 a pop for these. Every one of my dollars counts these days, and I weigh entertainment against cost, and I can’t justify a single one of these.
    -
Parent or not, your argument can’t even be justified with that statement.

  • ShaggyB

major: if its $10 a game i could care less how man games it has…. Shouldnt they have put it on disc for $59.99 (like the wii did….)

  • PzR Tak

Hmmm. Not reading through the entire comments, so I don’t know if this has been mentioned, but here’s the days of Arcade schedule (Fail MS, weren’t you supposed to tell us weekly, and surprise us? This is available through spotlight and days of arcade, in the UK)

    HDFGN 18th March
    Uno Rush 25th
    PQ Galactrix 1st April
    Dishwasher 8th April
    Flock 8th April
    Outrun 15th April
    Lode Runner 22nd April.

Lots of points out for me 1st, 8th and 15th then.

  • CARNAGE RULES

D@mn you ea. These are BOARD games and should be free. I don’t care how much money you spent developing these games. I also don’t care if you added different modes or multiplayer. When are you guys going to learn that you owe “us” and when I say “us” I mean everyone who thinks that you guys don’t deserve a penny for your hard work. If all of “us” can refuse a paycheck or tell our boss that we were a little lazy this week and don’t deserve full pay than you guys can do the same. I’m getting so tired of you guys FORCING “us” to pay these high prices. Who do you guys think you are? Come on everyone FREE!…FREE!…FREE!…FREE! You guys won’t get another micosoft point from me……………………..until you release the next title.

  • Shonk

Wow so its 7200 MS total so thats £61.20 in the uk
    and $90 for America

    Lol

  • SteelCity Beast

Wow I thought you bought hasbro Game Night and it came with all those… THAT BS

  • oue

Ah thanks Major- If one bought all 7 games and then the “two down the road” would that FULL game cost $90?? Is that right 9 games for $10 each? (800 ms points)

  • MeS FEAR

i am really shocked about the price….800 each game…my god..i wont pay any microsoft point for this…these are classic games and should cost so much. Even in a shopping center you will get the original one much much much cheaper…not worth at all…better you stop these kind of business EA.

  • MeS FEAR

sorry for the typo…i wrote should but i wanted to write shouldnt :D

  • ToEvadeSlugs

It’s a real shame, because the fun with these games would be the online multiplayer, and I doubt there will be many players to compete against online, reading through the comments.

  • mikeholg8

i’ll lay down 100 points for battleship 50 points for connect 4, i fell asleep playing connect 4

  • Chuckimus

    Ummm… 800 a piece? No thanks.

  • awp69

    Major,

Thanks for proving our point by mentioning that the PS2 version has six (of the 360′s eventual 7) games. That means if you have a PS2 you can go out and buy six of the Hasbro games for $20. Hmmm..that’s $3.33 per game vs. $10 on the 360. And you can’t argue that it’s because of the Live functionality since we already pay for that in our Gold memberships! Better graphics…these aren’t exactly Gears of War.

Think I’ll be saving my money and getting the PS2 disc. (Wasn’t one of Microsoft’s policies to make sure we didn’t pay more for content????)

Sorry for the rant..I’ll post positive comments when they’re warranted. But this kind of crap just really gets me upset.

  • sleepydumbdude

Everyone keeps posting the price of the board games from certain sites. Thing is that in stores these also go on sale, a lot. When I worked at walmart like three years ago most these games would go on sale price matched from competitors for like 5 – 11 bucks. I remember our Connect 4 was priced at 6 for the longest time. Not talking about the electronic or special editions though.
I wish these were on disc for ten a apiece because I know I could probably find them on sale or bargin bin in 6 months for half the price at least. Especially Connect 4.

  • Agent Klutz

Let’s see… in the past month I have canceled the daily newspaper, Netflix, and most of my cable package as the economy is in free fall. Still you guys at Microsoft continue to raise price of the arcade titles beyond my reach. When people are down they will remember how they were treated, I will remember how I was treated.

  • seldinhio

rip-off, f… this. MS is taking a piss on the fans who built this community. Can’t belive it. Ok there’s always PS3.

  • VEGEMITE 98

Major Nelson you lie, only the US has 7 games the rest of the world will get SIX!!
is it our fault that because scrabble is using ‘dirty english’ we wont be able to play it as well. and why only release half a game now, isn’t it finished yet?

  • Bubbabenali

    800 Points each?

Thank you MS you made my day!

  • DNAgent

Why didn’t they just make this an actual game like they did with the PS2 version? If you bought the whole package (excluding themes) then it would be about 5600 points total. That is a complete ripoff. I was actually interested in this until I figured out what the price would be. I won’t be buying this at all. If all the games dropped to 400 points then I would consider it (or at least buy a few games). It’s bad enough that the old 400 point arcade games are gone as 400 points has now been upgraded to 800 points.

Just compare TMNT Arcade with Duke Nukem 3D. If Duke Nukem 3D had upgraded graphics then it would’ve been fine but it’s just a ripoff when compared to the TMNT Arcade game. Duke Nukem 3D COSTS 800 points but it’s WORTH 400 points.

XBLA is just going downhill now and I highly doubt I will buy anything ever again unless there is a sale on it. It’s almost like it’s the fault of those crappy community games like massages games and other boring crap that cost 200-400 points so you have to make the XBLA games cost 800 as if to try and prove they are better than the community games.

  • Dirty Squirtys

My first time ever leaving a comment since reading MN.com for 2 years. This is price-gouging at its worst. Major Nelson, are you really the voice of the 360 gaming community? If so, you know what to do, let our voice to be heard. I would pay 1600 for all 7 games. PEOPLE SAVE YOUR POINTS FOR A GAME THAT IS WORTH IT. OUTRUN is coming up soon.

  • I Yova I

I just hope nobody will buy one of this games, ’cause the price it’s an abuse.

  • Demetrius Stark

Rip off. Will not buy. I’ll break out my REAL games tonight in protest instead.

    Pricing FAIL

  • Computerdude103

Somebody should submit this to fail blog. It’s hard to believe that anybody could justify selling connect 4 for $10.

  • CheekyLeeth

I am absolutely stunned! You guys just refuse to learn, don’t you? Well, maybe you will learn from this. As the price of Live Arcade games continues to rise, and the service to the UK compared to the US continues to fall, I have to make a decision. (Forget licensing issues, I’m still waiting for ANYTHING to be available here that isn’t available in a country that pays LESS than I do for Live.) My subscription is due to be renewed on April 11th. You have until April 10th to convince me to bother.

Anybody, and I do mean ANYBODY who pays for any one of these games deserves absolutely everything that happens to them. Scrabble for 800 might just be worth it, but it seems I’m not allowed to anyway.

  • MrMFloyd

Everyone who thinks this is overpriced garbage (which it clearly is) should download and play the trial on as many accounts as possible, then just delete it. EA / MS will learn the hard way when the conversion rate falls below the threshold they’ve set for deleting games fom XBLA and it vanishes. People power !

F**k EA, the majority of gamers see them as nothing but money-grabbing, soul-less c***s and they don’t do a thing to make them think any different. Then they pull a stunt like this and Microsoft let them get away with it. What has EA done with Peter Moore by the way – locked him in a dungeon? We haven’t heard from him in ages.

  • A Nutty Buckeye

Scrabble is broken. Ive played 3 games, all of them crashing before the game ended….and now the EA servers arent working. Screw this crap I want a refund!!! HEAR ME MICROSOFT????

  • Exu

What a joke. All that I got from downloading the room was a brief chuckle at Mr. Potato Head. I’ll be shuffling that from my game history and hard drive when I’m next on my 360.

Still, UNO Rush next week! 400 points! Well, it had better be what with it being confirmed ages ago and listed as that in the E3 2008 preview video too.

  • Exu

Personally I think they missed a trick with Family Game Night’s “new versions” of board games.

Connect Fore, where you take pot shots teeing off into a grid of holes
Or Connect Pfhor, a Marathon spinoff where you help the aliens set up their broadband connection.
Or Connect Thor, where you help the Norse Gods set up th… oh for fu-!
Or Connect Door, where you play as Handy Andy off of changing rooms and set up new doors for people.
Or Connect Whore, where you- actually, you know what? I’m not even going there.
Or Connect More, where you connect four but the game keeps on going FOREVER.
Or Connect Drawer, another Handy Andy game where you buy a chest of drawers from Ikea and have to set it up. WIIMOTE ACTION!!1
Or Connect Yore, where Tony Robinson and the Time Team try to find links between old legends and artifacts.
Or Connect Lore, which is like Connect Yore with a more mythical twist.
Or Connect Roar, where you have to guess the animal just by listening to its signature call.
Or Connect Store, where you sell such novelties as mobile phones, or the broadband that you sell to the Pfhor and Thor.
Or Connect Core, where you help people fit new Intel Pentium processors to their motherboards.
Or Connect Shore, where you notice that you can fit the continents together like a jigsaw.
Or Connect Floor, where you trip people up.
Or Connect Tour, where you work on combining the relay race with national tour routes.
Or Connect Poor, where you manage a social networking site for bums
Or Connect Gore, where you reassemble assorted dismembered body parts to make a single body. Puzzle game! :D
Or Connect Moore, where you make a phone call to Patrick Moore.
Or Connect Rancor, a dating game with Star Wars monsters.
Or Connect Corr, where you get The Corrs together for a comeback. A bit like Rock Band with an Irish flavour.
Or Connect Chore, where you link together all the activities of a housewife.
Or Connect Decor, the third Handy Andy game. In this instalment you spruce a house up a bit and make everything look nice. :3
Or Connect 24, where you try to link together anything even remotely plausible from the series.
Or Connect War, which is like a knockoff version of Battleships.
Or Connect Bore, where I make way too many Connect Four jokes.

  • RuairiAU

This is an absolute disgrace. The 6 games should have come with it for a total of 800pts, then each future game added for 100-200pts. This will be a complete failure for EA.

  • Warrengonline

Hmmm, what is all the fuss about just because the Hasbro Family Game Night came with an AIG Contract? C’mon, c’mon pay up, yeh, you too PS3, Wii and PC owners. You don’t owe anything, but you CAN pay up.

All seriousness, I was looking forward to Scrabble and for 800 points is fair. My question is can I delete that non-useful app to launch them. Is it really needed? I’ve played the Phantasy Star Universe Demo, if you want to give a 35 year old and his friends a ‘playground’ give me one like that – boost the ‘party’ to 8. If i can delete the Hasbro App and access Scrabble the NORMAL way of playing an arcade game, then I’ll purchase it. Until then, The Dish Washer and UNO Rush are my guaranteed purchases.

And “This game requires the Xbox 360 hard drive or the 512MB Memory Unit for storage.” – I guess they’ll play each game one-at-a-time “download one, play it, delete it, then download another, play it, delete it, repeat for the rest”? Family Game Night (237MB), Jungle Theme (24MB) and Scrabble (148KB). As long as the games are under 80MB, I guess Memory Unit users will be okay. Again, that is a guess.

Thanks Hasbro. I has no money, but I do has a bro.

  • Anonymous

lmao LOVING the rating this arcade game is getting! An all time LOW!

Maybe people will start doing the same for anything EA releases at ridiculous prices!

Awesome work to those not buying this!

  • subVertNYC

For the first time ever, I will say that I’m passing on this thanks to the pricing. Now excuse me while I jump into a peggle party.

  • TheGrooveJesus

Exu, that last post was a fistful of win.

  • Hank the Rapper

I was looking forward to this, but at 800 points each, this is a blatant rip-off. I was expecting a bundle of four games going for 1200-1600 total. I’m sorry, but this is ridiculous. I can get three times the content for $30 and buy the Hoyle board game pack on my PC.

  • AriesDog

“the Xbox 360 will have all six, plus Scrabble (only on Xbox 360) and then two more games down the road.” – Major Nelson.

So the complete Xbox 360 version Hasbro Family Game Night will cost $90.00? Wonderful.

  • r3dreck

How come only 70 pts for the game?

  • Makavelo

    “Major,
Thanks for proving our point by mentioning that the PS2 version has six (of the 360′s eventual 7) games.
But this kind of crap just really gets me upset.”

    QFT

  • VinnieDaMac

$20-$25 would have been somewhat reasonable for ALL 7 games. The people that are going to suffer the most are the people who actually buy this at $10 because they’re gonna be disappointed when they see that there’s very little people playing online (cause of the price).

  • tsaweeos

LOL you can play these games online for free pretty much on any game site.
I’d rather play a crappy flash version online then this.

I though these would be 4 games for 800 points. Boy was I wrong.

I think I’ll stick with my $19 pc game, Hoyle Puzzle & Board Games. It already has battle ship & yahtzee + a bunch of other games. I don’t mean to advertise like this but… I’d rather have people save their money then fall for this rip off.

  • wizll

lmao with 800pts for these games.

  • Huch

    LoL @ 800pts

  • KP ScuzzyBunny

I went to Gamestop and figured out what EA/ Hasbro was thinking…Hasbro Family game Nights retails at $39.99 (Wii…yes it is on the PS2 as well, but let’s stick to “next-gen” for the sake of this argument/ explanation), and includes CONNECT FOUR, BATTLESHIP, YAHTZEE, BOGGLE, SORRY!, SORRY! Sliders…Scrabble JUST released on the PSP and DS (yet not the Wii or PS2) and is, get this, $29.99, which added to $39.99 is $69.98. So you can buy the disc version, and not have Scrabble for $40 (with no expansions down the road (Clue, Risk, and Life…PLEASE)), and if you have a DS or PSP you can pick up Scrabble for $30, and it cost the exact same thing as the 360 version (and yes, both are made by Hasbro, published by EA). I am not condoning the pricing structure, just saying that I see now that it wasn’t simply “pulled out of thin air”! 400 pts, or even a BUNDLE (2400 pts and you get the 4th game free…like Connect Four), and it had the potential to be one of the best selling Arcade titles ever (especially since 7 games count as a HFGN sale). As it is, I’ll just be buying a piece here and there, and that’s because I had a stockpile of points from a B1G1 free ms pt sale.

  • UKresistance

Holy **** are those games over priced!

  • snaketide

I might have considered Scrabble, but seeing as it’s not available to me, I’ll pass on the whole lot.

I was trying to thing of an analogy to relate the difference between last week’s arcade release and this week’s, and all I could equate it to would be Home Alone 3 being released a week after E.T.

  • Anonymous

    arrrrrrgggggggh what a ri.

  • Bonnie StGeorge

As stated by others at 800 points per game, no way and as for the EULA from EA when you first go into live mode it must be at least 100 pages, you have got to be kidding me.

  • MattySkillz

what a scam, im gonna stick to peggle. thats worth the money

  • MetalGearFloppy

Has anyone actually found a way to delete Hasbro Family Games Night from their games list?
I tried, but it’s still there… I thought we were supposed to be able to delete 0 gamerscore arcade titles from our gameslist!

  • MartyPG13

    I didn’t realise it was April 1st already …

  • MrMFloyd

EA have been very sly with launching Hasbro Family Game Night this way. The “Launcher App” is free and there isn’t even a trial. Then people add on any of the 7 (or 6 if you’re not American) titles seperately. This means that “Hasbro Family Cash-In” will show up in the top 10 most purchased list as one game, not 7 (or 6) seperate titles, giving it a clear unfair advantage over all the other titles on the service…

Why Microsoft let them get away with this is beyond me. It’s bad enough they still let EA run their own crap servers which they can turn off whenever they please (See Def Jam : Icon, online servers closed down only 15 months after it’s release)

Shameful, what a terrible way to start the “Days of Arcade” promo.

  • LivinItUp

Focusing solely on Scrabble, I find it comical that EA’s idea of a single player mode is you simply placing one word after the other on the board; there are no AI opponents. EA expects us to pay $10 for that? I understand the theme is Family Game Night, but how can they promote a single player mode when you’re not playing against anyone?

  • hjetyekus

Days of Arcade on Xbox LIVE?!?

Right after trying this initial item, Hasbro package I rather feel, it is

Enddays of Arcade on Xbox LIVE…

  • Harris 3oo

    Maybe at 400p Maybe!

  • DKR1138

Meh I would have gotten it if it was cheaper purely to play it on a big screen but I have all 4 games on DS on one cartridge, it has boggle, monopoly, yatzee and battleships for like less than 20 bucks… they have to be kidding with 800 pts per game.

…. I’ll probably cave it when it comes to getting boggle.

  • BrooksterMax

again just to add my sentiments same as some others lol @ 800 points.

Some of real board games cost less from the shops!

  • The PerfectCr

You know, I don’t comment here much but Major, I had to log in to post this. This pricing an absolute joke. J.O.K.E. You MUST know that 800ms points per game was not going to fly with the community. 800 MS Points for the ENTIRE PACK is much more reasonable.

Major, I urge you or the folks at Live who work with the devs and/or publishers to reconsider this disaster of a pricing strategy. You had me sold on this when I thought it was 800ms Points for whole pack. 800 each is quite simply laughable. I purchase tons of games and DLC from the marketplace and I am not usually one to complain, but this is so egregious I had to comment.

  • K04 Passat

    Major:
This is an attempt at an honest, logical comment. Obviously, we mostly feel like this release is over-priced. Sales data remains to be seen, maybe this will be the wave of the future…
I believe that we would all benefit from a more open, honest line of communication… When it comes to THIS part of the Xbox Live service. You already do a fantastic job communicating with the XBL community on most aspects of the service. From a business point of view, I’m sure EA/MS had their reasons for pricing this so high. Questions remain about pricing structures.
I feel I have downloaded a lot of XBLA games, currently sitting at 78 titles. I do not see anything from EA, is this thier first XBLA release? Just something I was questioning.
People are always quick to jump to the “evil corporation/price gouging” rants, when things like this happen. I apologize for my fellow gamers, there really is no need for that. This is especially true, when it comes to EA.
Having checked my game shelf, I see no fewer than 25 EA games for the Xbox 360. I often download the paid extra content in games, if it interests me. I am probably toward the “easier sell” end of customers, I do buy a lot of DLC on Xbox Live… However, this is where we again need a line of communication between the gamers and the publishers… Some of EA’s DLC is fantastic, and some of it is pure garbage.

Let’s talk about the good ones…
Topping my list at the moment for paid content is Burnout Paradise. The new cars literally dragged me back into the game, I will likely completely finish all content in the game. I am clocked at over 100 hours in Paradise, now… Toy Cars, Legendary Cars, Boost Specials, Party Mode… That all deserves praise. I’m ashamed at having downloaded the Time Saver pack, but what can you do?
Rock Band is another game that keeps on giving. I haven’t played it much recently, but I see that songs are still being released regularly. Might or might not have much to do with EA, but worth pointing out.
Mercenaries 2 had the FREE Blow It Up Again pack… Not a LOT to it, but it was fun playing again.
Mirror’s Edge has the Pure Time Trials pack, and that is a GREAT addition to the game, seems to be worth the $10 to me.
Left 4 Dead is (supposedly) getting new FREE DLC, so that’s sure to be great. I’m looking forward to having something new to do in that game.
Army of Two looks like fair DLC, but I never got into the game enough to try out the competitive multiplayer.
Skate 2… I didn’t buy this game, but the content looks like it’s priced fairly for what it is.

    Now for some bad…
Dead Space – Suits, colors, weapons for the game as DLC… Seems shady, this should have been included on the disc. Could’ve just admitted there were no real plasn for DLC, EA.
Need for Speed series – Collector’s edition pack that isn’t useful in the single player career is a disappointment. Packs to unlock part of the game are a bit of a disappointment, as well. This stuff was codes, in that past. As it stands now, it’s confusingly named packs and confusing descriptions. I’d like to pay to unlock everyting in Need for Speed Underground, but I have no idea how to go about doing that, if it would actually be completely unlocked if I bought those packs. A quick fix to this would be to release a pack that unlocks EVERYTHING in the game, at fair price. Say… $10. It isn’t really costing EA anything, we could unlock the stuff int he game for free.
Command and Conquer series – Seems to be 1 map pack per game, and never very well described. There was a free map on CNC 3.
Lord of the Rings Conquest – Not much to the 1 paid map pack for this game. I didn’t buy it, I never even started the game. Haven’t read anything positive about the DLC.

I listed a few good and bad… Just about EA. Hopefully this gets passed on to someone that cares. We want to pay for new experiences in our favorite games, reasons to keep them spinning in the disc tray. Give us Burnout Paradise style DLC, not NFS Underground style… Give us Mirror’s Edge style, not Dead Space style…

If you check the marketplace, EA truly isn’t the publisher that is nickel and diming gamers the worst. That would be Capcom. A story for another day.

Honestly, I LIKE the EA we have been seeing for the last couple of years. There have been bad decisions, sure… But a LOT of good, as well. Same for Microsoft. There are GREAT games out there, this has been an exiting time.

Talk to us, publishers. Best of luck. I do not expect great sales for Hasbro Family Game Night, but let us know how it turns out. Also… Let us know how this deal came to be.

  • SiK TactiKz

….I’d be embarrased to be associated with this content, let alone announce it on my blog. C’mon Major, please address the pricing ridiculousness… truely, no offense, but why respond to 1 comment about the number of games other consoles get compared to the 360…when maybe 2 person out of the hundreds who commented here (about the pricing) cares about that..?

  • Firecrest

Sadly, I don’t think any amount of whining is going to change this pricing fiasco that’s already set in stone. All we can do now is wait for this to slip into the depths where it’ll soon be forgotten.

  • Turtle502

I know we’re actually customers, but a lot of us feel like investors when it comes to the Xbox 360…and things like this really bother us. :\ Litheon should change this blog so that popular topics stay at the top of the page. Or at least provide links to the most popular topics in the last 30 days (based on comment count). This is the most I’ve seen in weeks…

  • Ollyh

It would probably be better if the entire game (That includes all 4 games) were sold at 1600 MAX I would be fine with that but 800 MS points each I mean come over. Money doesn’t grow on tree’s.

  • MACPH1ST0

Yeah Killer Scuzzy J, I was the one who posted the pricing details for these games here a couple weeks ago when Days of Arcade was announced because I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. But the sad reality is, we here are but a small fraction of the overall Arcade buying public, and it will still most likely sell enough copies to make it into the top 10 next week. Hopefully enough people will see through the ridiculousness of this pricing scheme for it to fall fast in the rankings and show the error of their ways to whoever it was that came up with these prices!

  • RockStar AV8R

I love my 360, but time and time again I feel like we are constantly getting kicked in the balls. $10 for each of these games is down right criminal. With all the great things the 360 offers it is stuff like this that makes me embarrassed to be a 360 owner. When people ask me what system to get, I love listing all the great things the 360 offers. But can’t help but to feel it only fair to add that time and time again they will try and screw you with stuff like this. I guess at the end of the day it is not about being the best console, with the best service, and the most to offer. It is about trying to pry every last nickel from my wallet. Thanks for once again taking something that could have been a great time and screwing it up M$!

  • Gooser711

    Lol what a ripoff

  • kayas

Straight up jack move. I was going to buy this release too. No effing way at $10 a piece.

  • Beluvius

Uhmm, well after the experience with these totally overpriced games, let me guess: UNO Ruch will be what? 1.200 points? Ah, perhaps not, it will probably be 800 for the basic game and another 400 for DLC, which would have belonged to the game in the first place…

  • mikeholg8

its got Mr Potato Head though

  • SamF2000

Aside from the price, I really wanted Scrabble but when I saw the terrible colors they chose and the childish interface and Graphics I decided not to buy anything.
Its a pity because Scrabble would have been great if the Tiles were not blue, the board was more like the actual game board with correct colors and the Stupid Potato head guy was gone. seems these games were targeted at 3 year olds when scabble is really an adult oriented board game.Beside that these games can be had on the pc with better graphics POGO.COM and Gamehouse have better versions and you can play against computer.

  • Shonk

Anyone in the UK with either a PS3 60gig or a Wii

    get it from Amazon UK
    £10 PS2
    £12 Wii

    For 6 games
Will cost you over £41 on the 360 for the 6 games

  • Makavelo

how much will KoF98 cost? im thinking like 1600MS Points, Ripoff.

  • PriusGuy2004

I, too, think the pricing is a bit unreasonable, but I can see why each game is 800 points as there are variations of the games included. I just wish that “Sorry!” was released at the same time as the other four were last Wednesday. It’s a bit misleading in the description of the download to say that “Sorry!” is one of the games only to find out “in game” that it’s “Coming Soon to an XBox near you”. I bought “Scrabble”, but I was disappointed to see that there isn’t even an AI player available in single-player mode as there is with Yahtzee, Connect 4, and Battleship. No AI player in Scrabble = Fail.
