  • Mr Morpheus

Pay for MP!!!!! WTF!! Now Capcom get a grip. I do not pay for the MP.

  • ExcessiveGBH

Anybody else having issue with down loading RE5 Versus Mode? I’m getting error code 80070570.
Have contacted support but there not sure what the code is exactly.

  • Jadzia 360

I can’t download it either, but I’m sure it’ll be fixed by the time I get back from work. Oh well. I was hoping to play before work, but I guess it’s better this way.

  • mattricks1983

Will try this out tonight, haven’t finished the game yet (on 6-2) but will give this a quick shot.

Yeah it sucks to pay for MP, I refuse to pay for things like costumes however if I didn’t buy this it feel like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

  • Mr Morpheus

We players pay expensive money for games. Not having to pay more for VS. I would urge everyone NOT to buy Resident Evil 5 Versus Mode as potest against Capcom.

  • Louie

This is a waste of money.

The multiplayer should have been free.

  • B16 MR W

So I pay for XBox Live subscription AND pay for multiplayer gaming, er NO!!!
Think I will skip on this and stick to COD multiplayer.

  • Nemesis556

Moronic posts like that aren’t gonna help. If you don’t like it, don’t pay for it. Resident Evil has never been a multiplayer series and this add on is adding something new and fresh.

If you don’t like it, don’t buy. You’re the one that’s missing out. It’s 400 MSP too. That’s nothing.

  • Mr Morpheus

What will it be next time 800p. I pay $ 87 for a game, should I need more beta for mp. no .. Capcom can forget it. daring to stand up

  • MetalGearFloppy

    People really don’t get it….

If they read into the story behind how the multiplayer add-on came to be they’d realise we’re not “paying for multiplayer” in the sense that they mean…

  • B16 MR W

To Nemesis556: It is not moronic it is called opinion! I actually did say that I would not be buying it so what is YOUR point?

  • THC FightDog 85

Why does it not come to Germany? The Game was rated for people 18+ from USK!

  • Arsenic13

so at 1MB. It IS on the disk.

  • THC FightDog 85

And its only for Gold Member!? WTF?

  • A Place for Us

Should have been included on the disc or at least made free if they didn’t have this mode ready. Silly Capcom.

  • Xebu

@Nemesis556: Get a grip, MOST long running series didn’t have multiplayer. Lets take a couple of examples:

    Halo
    Burnout
    Guitar Hero

NONE of those had online multiplayer when they started but I don’t recall Halo 3 or Burnout Paradise charging for a multiplayer add-on…let alone this close to launch!!

Capcom have obviously built multiplayer into the game design and deliberately kept it back so they can charge more for it. Seriously does anyone think they finished the game then thought “hey multiplayer would be good” and then knocked it up in a fortnight?

Personally, anything that ships as an add-on this close to launch is quite blatantly just an example of the developers cashing in.

  • Xebu

Oh, and has anyone noticed the download size: 2Mb.

Looks like this is included on the disk. It’s probably just a dinky little patch to fix the bugs that held it back from being a release day chargeable extra!!

  • Sabre Squadron

I urge everyone to vote with their wallets. Don’t buy this!

  • Mr Barrel Roll

Xebu, two of those those three games were released before Xbox Live existed. And the original Guitar Hero was exclusive to the PS1. So, yeah, they probably wouldn’t have online multiplayer for the Xbox.

This download is ridiculous, I no longer have any interest in the game itself to be honest. If I’m not going to get everything on the disc itself when I buy it, I really have no interest in buying the disc at all.

  • Nemesis556

Oh well! You can all complain while I shell out the LARGE AND VAST AMOUNT of AU$6.60 and enjoy the Versus mode.

  • SalamanderSkill

MS couldn’t have arranged some bonus content? We are already paying for P2P Multiplayer, it’s an unlock code also… Not your standard 128kb unlock code but it’s only 2mb so it’s all on disc content. :-s

  • mattricks1983

It seems people would moan a lot less if they’d just held back the code and made us download it (even though it was ready for retail)…..
Do you think that it’s better to download the code so you feel like your getting something, kinda like ignorance is bliss?
We all have the option to buy or not, so get it, don’t get it, and move on.

  • jburton90

Not only is it a waste of money in a ‘it should be free with the game’ sense, but cmon 4 people? Can anyone imagine playing Halo 3 or CoD with 4 people? Cmonnn

  • sepulturas666

Content is already in the disc. Don’t support this crappy DLC.
Sadly, more and more devs attempt to rip some more cash from gamers with cheap way like this. :( :(

  • Danowat32

Blimey, does the huge 1.86mb download mean that this is already on the disc?.

  • ValeYard13

I hate to sound like a stuck record, but this “not available in Germany and Japan”-business is really starting to grate on me. I understand the difficult political climate in Germany since I’m a British person living there, however, not releasing games/game content that could simply get an 18+ rating from the USK just seems to be fueling the misconceptions politicians have or for election reasons display about the correlation between games and violence. We need a better dialogue between companies like MS and politicians, media, and parents’ lobbies in order to promote a more mature outlook and usage of games with violent content. Otherwise, I feel the situation in countries like Germany will only get worse for gamers and game companies.

Ok, sorry, rant over. Hell MS, I’m bilingual, let me do some PR for you!

  • UMMAGUMMA

not paying for multiplayer and i already shipped mine back.

  • Sectus

Xebu, you can use the same argument for most DLC out there. Just about all DLC are planned before the game is even in development, and finished around the same time as the actual game. I don’t think this DLC is fair to target specifically, there’s MUCH worse DLC scams out there.

Anyway, the DLC is STILL not working properly. I really hope someone at Microsoft or Capcom is looking into this.

  • Xebu

    Mr Barrel Roll: Exactly!!!

That’s my point, many long running series have been around since before consoles had online capabilites so using that as justification is bonkers.

Resident Evil was a PS1 game, I finished it, quite enjoyed, didn’t expect it to have multiplayer (online anyway) because the PS1 didn’t have the facilities.

Nowadays though you expect one of two things…A good single player game (Condemned, Bioshock) or a good multiplayer game (CoD, R6V, Halo).

What’s next? Will Call of Duty 6 ship as 2 games: CoD6: Campaign and CoD6: Online? I sure as He11 hope not but if this is anything to go by that’s the direction we’re heading!

  • r3dreck

HA, glad I didn’t buy it

  • Deadly Moves

I cant download it either.. i get this error code 80070570

And to all those haters.. its not just MP mode. its extra achievements aswell. 400MSP is that much IMO

  • Computerdude103

nobody should buy this. The point of DLC is for the team to work on content after the game’s release and then charge for it. Not to take away resources from our $60 game so they can make an extra $5. Capcom lies and says this is due to their accounting system, but that’s only because they set it up in such a manner. I encourage everyone to stay away from this. Show capcom that this kind of behavior won’t pay off on the Xbox 360.

  • w00dm4n

what was the excuse for the megaman9 “extra content”? you know where they released the game with ????? in the mode select screen?(bought protoman mode)

what was the reason for the street fighter 4 costume packs?
not only were they on the disc but they were in the arcade version of the game which was a year old.(got the first pack for free so i bought the rest)

i get the point,it’s a single player game and even if 10% of RE5 owners buy it they’ll still make money but it asks why are we paying for xbox live if we get charged for multiplayer?

it’s kind of sad when Horse Armor actually gains value over the years as being good DLC.

  • N3WB13 R0N

Nice to see DLC for already good game. now vs mode isnt in the game in the beginning we didnt know it was there till they said it.. and yes we were kind of pissed.. but at the same time its worth the 5 bucks in all unastity if the game looks like a single player game its a single player game and it was shipped for co-op and single NOT VS! so this is a new feture maybe it was on the disc but maybe the coding was messed up and they couldnt get it out to fans till now.. but its well worth it and they give you more achivements for the price looks and seee..

  • SkinnerY2K

Pay for MP? I think not. Bunch of pikeys. Back to COD and GOW MP me thinks

  • Sneeches

I dunno if it’s just me but I thought RE 5 was a very solid game. Sure they could have put a MP into the disc based version but they didn’t…get over it. If you dont want to buy this then dont, but I honestly dont think its that bad. I know I’ll be buying it as I want to support the devs and well this sounds like a ton of fun. Gaming isn’t cheap on all sides of the spectrum so for all you cheapskates who can’t pay 5$ for DLC then you have other priorities or worries you should be concentrated on. Also we pay more for a bag of chips and a pop these days which will last a whole 10 min, where as a 5$ multiplayer will give you endless hours of fun. Stop complaining people!!!!!!

  • J0NGIE

Yes, no content for germany… again! But we have best beer worldwide and can drink with 16! Hell yeah! :P

  • Dan Brown 360

Looks like its been pulled from the Marketplace, wouldn’t download for me either. 1.86MB seems too small, I think someone has messed up!!

  • THC FightDog 85

Why has the Add-On removed from the switzerland marketplace!?

  • metallicorphan

ewww…good god no…multiplayer???…what has our beloved Resident Evil series become?

  • N0RDS

Please dont download this!! It will make the developer wants more from your pocket! Now the game doesn’t cost 59$ but 65$ for something that should be in game.

  • X WiCkEd Co X

THC FightDog 85 you said “And its only for Gold Member!? WTF?” Why would you but this as a silver member if you don’t have online gold?

  • jlissandrello

I wouldn’t mind paying for the download if I knew that Capcom was going to fix the “Failed to Load Saved Data” error that I and a lot of people are getting after playing the game for countless hours. Why would I want to waste anymore time?

  • Obienator

All you people PAYING for this are encouraging companies to screw us over. Seriously, get some dignity and say NO with your wallets!

  • AutomaticOcelot

I think if you’re going to have principles about something (which is nice and all), there are bigger issues in the world to cry havok about.

  • P00K

Not only is it already on the disc – but in Japan it’s only 160 Points.

  • slardybartfast8

The point is, the on-disc content for RE5 was easily worth the 60 you paid for it. Awesome game, awesome co-op, decent length, tons of replayability, and mercenaries is awesome for a few hours. They didn’t have to release this Versus stuff at all, its just a fun addon, and I don’t think they expect everyone to download it. It’s like an experiment. Do you want to try shooting eachother with these very untraditional deathmatch controls? Yes? Admission is 5 dollars to our special ride. That actually makes sense to me. It’s not too expensive, and its something the actual game 100 percent did not need, but will be fun for a few hours (5 dollars worth) If that is too steep for you, or you arent interested, don’t buy the ticket. I disagree with anyone who says it should be free or on-disc already. I just don’t think you get it.

  • Steve CTID

The thing is people, none of us want to pay for this, but ms/capcom arent going to back down over charging over a few posts on the internet and it isnt exactly a surprise as we’ve known we’d have to pay for this for a while.

So you have 2 choices, pay and download like you knew you would have to (or shouldve known) or dont download it and shut up.

  • N3WB13 R0N

japan probly is more loose with they content thats why its 160 points P00K and post the link so people can see or a photo of what you mean because serouly i dont think japan got it?? by the whole saying major just posted that japan didnt get it so how can they??

  • kdzBiBa

@J0NGIE: Damn right! But since a couple of years you gotta be 18 to buy beer :/
    I’m Glad that i’m 20 :D

    @Topic:
If i’d have this game i’d complain too :P

  • N3WB13 R0N

Guys its on PS3! as well microsoft isnt the one who charging the cost its Company like capcom!! Look at ps3 marketplace you will see what i mean.. Some people.. need to learn to read a few things..

http://www.epicbattleaxe.com/main/2009/4/6/re5-versus-mode-dated.html <– take alook at link and see for your selfs.. guys ps3 is doing it too.. -.-;; so its capcoms falt in the end.. why there charging us for server cost and a few other things i hurd.. but anyways.. on disk or not i would buy it if i had the game but the cost of game is way to expsive right now..

  • Xbudz LIVE

    no.

  • Recon73

What a ripoff, paying for somrthing that should have came in the game in the first place. This is sending wrong idea to these companies, send out less than full games and charge for extra play modes. It is not like it is new maps. Don’t you just lovr being nickle and dimed.

  • Nemesis556

Japan pay more for their games, that’s why it’s a lower price. Do your homework =)

  • RockStar AV8R

Sad… just sad. I expect better.

  • Warrengonline

The Majini say “box of coolaid!?” (“pahk-ko-coo-lay”) – :) -

Getting this Friday after friends get back at me on it. But it looks awesome in my strategy guide! 400 Pts – nice.

  • p0yo77

to bad fanboys are gonna buy this so capcom is going to believe they can do pretty much whatever they want and are gonna start charging for everything, im kinda waiting for “Zombies at dead rising for only 400 points”

  • YrX

@Xebu I think it’s funny how your posting about how big the file size is and saying that it’s on the disc… How are you going to complain about it being 1 or 2 MB’s and then talk crap to Nemesis556??

Also Halo had a online for PC and Xbox if you had the right thing for your PC that allowed you to connect to the Internet… You should do some research before you criticize others on there opinions.

  • ZaZeeMan

    QUOTE:
“Resident Evil has never been a multiplayer series and this add on is adding something new and fresh.
If you don’t like it, don’t buy. You’re the one that’s missing out. It’s 400 MSP too. That’s nothing.”

This is exactly how Capcom justifies it. This is wrong for content already on the disc! This is getting ridiculous and will continue to get out of hand as long as people buy it.

  • Ezekiel 06

    Paying for MP now??? Nope.

  • fourG

    rape!

  • Turtle502

nobody should be paying for “additional modes” via DLC. This is just getting ridiculous. Next, they’ll be selling full games “a la carte” — want the CGI cutscenes? You’ll need to pay extra, cuz they won’t be on the disc. Or you’ll be paying extra for co-op characters, otherwise they won’t be in the game.
    .
And I’m tired of people calling others “cheapskates”. I hope the lack of money in this economy DOESN’T eventually trickle down (or up!) to you. :\

  • oO MG81 Oo

WTF!, this couldn’t have shipped with the game??.

Capcom clearly milking the teets of gullible gamers.

  • Quicksilver4648

LOL, who would pay for this? Pay for a multiplayer mode. And what is this? The entire thing is <2MB, what a rip off. All of the assets used in this DLC are already on the disk. Not even a single new texture. I have low res pictures that take up more memory then that. Even though I have the disk sitting in my 360 as I type this, there is no way I am going to buy this.

  • ROBBMAC

I don’t have a problem with people protesting or being upset about games and content. What gets annoying is when those said protesters continuously flood message boards with repetitious statements ad nauseam for weeks on end trying to recruit everyone under the sun to be mad with them.

You don’t like the content, don’t buy it and go play what makes you happy, But the constant moaning on message boards won’t make your case any more winnable than just not buying the content and doing something else. Being mad at the people that do buy the content doesn’t help you either. Bottom line line is; if there are more people that do buy the content versus those that don’t then the project was justified, trying to sway the outcome from a message board (which has never worked to date) is an exercise in futility which you’re well within your freedom to do. But consider spending your energy on something more fruitful.

  • oO MG81 Oo

    @ROBBMAC
The same could be said about people like yourself.

Personally I think selling off an MP feature that should have shipped with game is a bit of an underhand way to do business. Yeah I see why they do it but it doesn’t mean I have like it and keep my mouth shut. The comments section is here for people to post their opinion whether that be negative or positive.

Stuff like this lowers my respect for the developers. I won’t be buying it.

  • Xebu

Here’s a thought that will get totally ignored.

DLC MUST BE FREE FOR 6 MONTHS FROM RELEASE DAY!!

Take burnout paradise, I’ve dropped points on what is probably overpriced content but I don’t mind. Why? Because for the first 12 months Criterion/EA (yes EA) put out FREE updates, not just little ones, they added tons of content, new races, new vehicles, new modes, even just environmental enhancements. Now they are still putting out new content, they are just charging for it and to be honest it has got me playing, and paying again.

Take GTA IV. I’ve bought The Lost and Damned. No free updates in between but TLAD adds significant content to the original. It’s taken thought, effort and TIME.

I also bought Knothole island, it was fun, but it came out quickly, wasn’t very big and could have easily slotted into the original game. Not so impressed with that one, although it did look lovely :-)

To all those who agree with this pricing, what if Gear, Halo, Call of Duty, and all of the other games charged you an extra $5 to play online when you got it home?

The problem is people will buy any old sh*te and then spend extra on air freshener to try and make it smell a bit nicer. That makes this post utterly futile so I’m off to waste money of something else equally daft instead.

  • citation needed

The Versus pack is $1 cheaper on PS3 and only costs $2 in Japan. Since Xbox Live handles matchingmaking and leaderboards, it costs Capcom nothing to run multiplayer games on 360. However, Capcom does have to run servers for the PS3 version. By paying an additional premium, Xbox players are subsidizing the cost of the PS3 online component.

  • Freaky Priest

    Not available in Germany?
I think about switching for a Playstation 3.

  • Mr Morpheus

It is pure bull shit that we have to bay it. Well it not much but what will it be next time. I pay $87 for a game. F**K Capcom. Those who want to buy it may well do so. Stop defending your purchase. We think that it is low by Capcom. So shut up.

  • Pandapadawan

To all those “boohoo it’s already on the disk” shouters: It’s a new game mode. You don’t need lots of space for a new multiplayer mode. 2 MB is actually quite a lot for such a thing. It’s just as stupid as the complaints about The MAW DLC. Just because a developer knows how to keep things small doesn’t mean he is ripping you off with unlock codes.

And another thing regarding prices: Yeah, 400 points is pretty lame especially since it’s 160 points in Japan. But there is an easy solution. Don’t buy it. If you complain and buy anyway you’re only hurting yourself. Look what happenend since Braid was 1200 points and 200,000 people bought it. Castle Crashers even found 400,000 buyers at 1200 points while being totally broken and it took three months for a patch. As long as people are that stupid Microsoft will happily increase prices. To quote from the “This week on XBLA” entry: “You would make much more money if you were selling it at 800 points.” Wrong!
Microsoft would never do this if they were hurting their profits. They do it because they can earn more money by selling games at 1200 points because YOU are too weak to resist, it’s not Microsofts fault, it’s YOUR fault.

  • Sabre Squadron

    @ROBBMAC
Dude you are every marketing executive’s wet dream! Not only are you gullible enough to pay extra for something that you’ve already bought, but you then visit forums trying to justify it to yourself by telling those, who are rightly insulted by such a proposition, that it’s not worth complaining about it! Wow.

  • kdzBiBa

    Great Comment 72
    and LOL @ 71

  • Warrengonline

    @N3WB13 R0N, Quicksilver4648
DLC is extra, it is NOT a must-have. The Mercenaries Mode was an AWESOME idea and it works. The Versus Mode – from what my collector’s strategy guide states like RE5 is sneaking over into Halo 3 property – awesome with bloody horror and manjini. It’s about time. Lost Planet Versus online rocks too. You do not need this content, so why whine or complain? It’s 400 points and under 2MB!! Deal of the Month (with The Dishwasher)! Okay, I really wish Sheva had a closest with more industrial clothes, fighting manjini in my clubb’in clothes (in real life) would definitely be a “No-no”.

    @Turtle502
I had wanted to add you to the previous group but do you really think devs would do such?

    @Quicksilver4648
We (friends) think (but could be wrong) the Verus Mode file is just the application using the assets from the game, nothing else is needed. I think it is neat and smart compared to old respected ways.

  • ArcSphere

I usually remain quiet about such issues, but this seems really shady. I agree with most people, this mode should have been included on this disk. If they want to make additional money on dlc then they should have done it by creating new maps based on what players were asking for after playing said mode.

  • KP ScuzzyBunny

Has anyone looked at what your save game file sizes are in RE5? Obviously, like with the MAW, and so many other games now, the developers are using some top of the line compression. IF this mode was on the disc (and it’s not), there would have been hacked versions of vs mode being played already (like the SC IV matches between Yoda and Darth Vader months before the “release” of the character)…if it’s on the disc, there are people who can, and will, access it. My save game, with multiple plays, all weapons, most of the figures, all the costumes, and however many hours of stats and all that is a whopping 200kb. RE5 is not, and never has been, about multiplayer and I have no problem dropping $5 for some NEW, EXTRA content. There are plenty of examples of games that overcharge for DLC, and many games that are simply overpriced, and I know if I had wasted money on the “LE” I might be a little upset, but I guess since my game was technically free (Elite Bundle), I have no problem at all with this. Army of Two had awesome DLC that added a new game mode, and everyone that played it enjoyed that mode much more than the “out of the box” mp, so please lets not stop developers from adding new things to game by saying all DLC should be “map packs” and “new missions”…I would much prefer to pay $5 and get the vs mode than wait for them to include it in RE6.

  • ROBBMAC

@ Sabre Squadron: If I had already bought something, I would have had access to it from the get go. The fact that the DLC costs suggests that I didn’t pay for it. Whether or not the code was contained on the disk or not seems to be most peoples point of contention. I personally don’t see it making a difference if it costs 400 points and it’s on the disk or it costs 400 points and it’s off the disk. Bottom line if I want to play the DLC it costs 400 points.

I don’t need justification from message boards to approve my purchases or non-purchases. If I don’t want something or don’t see value in something… I don’t buy it. Period.

I don’t hit up the boards to tell the world how I would hypothetically be ripped off if I “had” purchased an item.

  • Tekkie neXt

Reading these comments and all I see is BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!

Don’t sodding buy it then, whining about it isn’t gonna make a damn bit of difference. Atleast it’s only 400 points, which is about £3 or what $5 I bet half of you would cry and try to boycott Xbox Live if it was 800 points.

If you don’t like something, then don’t buy it, making a fuss is just a pointless waste of your own time, since I’m 80 points short, I’m just gonna wait and see what people think about it first.

  • Tekkie neXt

Oh and the 2MB download will be all the code needed for the mode, after all, all the other resources are already there like the maps and models, the MP base code is there, so this is little more than allowing 4 players in one map and throwing in some little bits of versus code.

  • CMcCon342

Has anyone played it? Is it even any good? All the arguing isn’t worth much of it sucks. The same is true if it’s awesome. If it WERE free, would it be worth playing? That is my question.

  • Turtle502

    @Warrengonline
“@Turtle502 – I had wanted to add you to the previous group but do you really think devs would do such?”

Yes, I think they will. Especially as DLC and the migration toward all-digital games advances in the coming years. Eliminate the disc, and games can be delivered in pieces, forcing gamers to buy each part independently. They can go so far as to provide a dumbed-down AI for Sheva…but — wait! — now you can unlock the “advanced” AI for only 800 MSP!

I’m being extreme of course…but this trend has increased with more and more titles in the past year.

  • KP ScuzzyBunny

…and I was wrong about the size of my save files. the 200 some odd kb save was on my MU, but I forgot it was THREE people’s saves. Looks like one person’s game is 76kb, so I really don’t think 2mb is unlocking anything on the disc. Like Tekkie said, they are using existing maps and models, and it’s just code to allow the extra characters (see new achvs), and whatever interactions/ rules are present in the DIFFERENT game modes. That being said, does anyone know if the “survival” games are included with this download, or is it just the “versus” (there are achvs for both)…can’t test mine out till tonight.

  • OzzyPinapple

I dunno. I already dropped 90 bucks for the limited edition of the game. And i still have a ton of other stuff to unlock. And honestly it doesnt sound like it adds much. Certainly not enough worth paying extra for. If i wasnt such a doofus and had bought the regular edition i might have considered it.

  • Turtle502

@Tekkie neXt — Capcom could have done themselves a favor in the PR dept by giving this away as an update. If this were so complicated for the devs that they have to charge 400 points per copy, then why only 2 MB ?

I haven’t picked up RE5 yet…and it’s a practice like this that just may keep me from buying the retail package.

  • darkjester74

There’s a story on IGN where Capcom all but confirms that the Versus content is indeed already on disk and the DLC you are purchasing is an encrypted key to unlock it. http://xboxlive.ign.com/articles/970/970396p1.html Capcom mentions that the additional cost is used to offset the additional hosting costs required by Sony. (Since PS3 owners dont pay anything for PSN, the hosting costs are charged to the developer/publisher.)

I’m not sure why people are so outraged over this. EA has already been doing this for years with their “pay us extra money and we will unlock everything for you so you dont have to bother playing the game” scam. To me THAT is more bothersome than this. Atleast here you are getting some extra game modes that should extend the experience some.

Still not convinced I’m gonna buy it tho. If I see enough people on my friends list start playing 4 player co-op I might consider it.

  • Sectus

darkjester: That article has absolutely no research to it. They saw the download size and assumed the mode had to be on the disc… ignoring the fact the game was recently patched (a whole 36mb on PS3) 1 or 2 days before the DLC, and that the new mode only requires new code and minor new assets (like UI graphics).

  • DontStopMeNow01

it sux that we have to pay for this, because i really think it should have been included. but hey the game is great without it, so they have the right to charge us for something else. plus 400pts isnt that much at all.

  • Frantic Fargo

If only I liked this game…

  • EFE Assassin

I agree with everyone, This download is ridiculous, paying for MP when it should have been on the disk in the first place.

  • Tekkie neXt

@Turtle, it’s only code, just a bunch of letters and numbers, that’s why it’s 2MB, they haven’t added any new maps or models, just the basic game code to enable the new multiplayer modes. They’ve said that this wasn’t developed under the games original budget, thus why it’s costing the 400 points because they spent more money making it.

At least they’re not EA, charging 400 points to unlock stuff instantly instead of actually unlocking it by playing through the game, that’s the epitome of abusing the system.

In the end paying the 400msp is a choice, it’s not being forced on anybody, it’s not the end of the world if you don’t buy it, the world just doesn’t need to hear people moaning about it every damn time and it’s the same group of people too.

  • DeathsKamikaze

i thought Resi was awful, but paying fo MP, what a con, LOL at capcom!

  • JonnyDFandango

To all those saying ‘It’s only 400msp’:
You must have enough money that you don’t mind paying for thinly veiled attempts by capcom (and MS) to bleed their customers dry in an era where the vast majority of games include a multiplayer component. If this was simply a case of a developer releasing the multiplayer after the games initial release, I think that the community at large would be understanding of the constant conflict of development vs. release date, and I think that you would see many, many RE5 players downloading and embracing RE5 multiplayer. For CAPCOM to be releasing this DLC, this shortly after the games release, with the possibility that this DLC is ALREADY on our disks, is a dishonorable, dishonest, and disturbing trend. Yes, FOR NOW, it is only 400msp. We’ve been asked to pay for horse armor, and there were those that didn’t see the writing on the wall and said ‘it’s not like it’s an important part of the game, so don’t buy it’. We’ve paid for dlc that’s already on our disk, and there were those that didn’t see the writing on the wall and said ‘it’s not like you can’t play the rest of the game, we’re just paying for a premium version.’ Now, we are being asked to pay for multiplayer, which is THE MAJOR component in many games today. Still, there are those that don’t see the writing on the wall and say ‘it’s only 400msp’. It’s becoming obvious to me that there will always be people that will shell out money as fast as Microsoft, Capcom, etc., will take it. I still hope that there are enough players out there that will grow tired of paying more and getting less. Do I hate DLC? No, I think it’s a great solution to POTENTIALLY add value to games.. if these developers remember that that added value shouldn’t be shaved off of the disk you bring home from the store.

  • Smo84

This is garbage that you have to pay MS credits for a 1.86mb download that is already on the dvd i bet…I refuse to buy this.

  • Warrengonline

    @Turtle502
Hmm, you’re scaring just a little as that is already being done with chat bots (A.L.I.C.E if I am not mistaken). All sounds good too a point, but if they start doing that, do it like Namco did Soul Calibur IV. Let others ‘see’ and ‘experience’ the DLC (via co-op or during online play) even though they do not own it. Crackdown was good for that too via cop-p to be able to share unlocked weapons. WHERE’S the ‘synergy’ in these games today? Digital Downloads are going to hurt big time as collector’s (like myself) will be forced in the corner (ebay, friends, xbox live, psn, craigslist, friends of friends, etc) to find games of the past on cartridge, CD and HuCards. Hmmm… 2025…. “NES with five games $120 – Ebay.ofthefuture.net”. I know that you are being extreme, but then won’t that make other third parties want to be first party over time?

    @OzzyPinapple
I bought the Limited Edition RE5 ($76) plus the hardcover Collector’s Strategy Guide ($30, but I got a discount and paid only $25) to keep the set. The package is okay, I don’t feel jipped much, except the Tricel bag did not have holes in the straps to keep the bag closed. And I wanted a STARS patch, not a BSAA Badge gave it to store manager). My ONLY gripe is they actually paid someone to put the Resident Evil Extinction TRAILER (not a movie, but a trailer) from 2007 on the Extras disk. IF it was not for the making of RE5 (worth its weight in gold) I probably would have been saddened, then sidetracked by Lost Planet 2′s four-player co-op. I would have hoped for RE4 to be packed on the Disc or that new movie. I’m okay, the game is very good to me. Nothing truly phenomenal, but truly enjoyable co-op.

  • GuitarGuruXXX

I only made it to 2-1 and was completely bored with it. Multiplayer isnt gonna help.

  • Turtle502

@Tekkie neXt — yeah, I understand how coding works. And I understand that the cost of DLC is meant to cover the cost of development. I understand the business mechanics, thanks.

The problem is that the economics of the price are driven “top down”. The corporations just set the prices…but we just have to take it? Whatever happened to “setting a price that the market will bear” ??? Sorry, I’m all for complaining. I don’t think this price (and being charged more and more for every little thing lately) is something I can bear.

  • darkjester74

    @Sectus
I did see a title update for RE5, but it seemed pretty small (i.e. downloaded very quickly). Was that in support of the DLC? Did Capcom announce it as such? Just curious.

  • Disco Penguins

For any of you skeptics that think Versus Mode is already on the disc, leave your ignorance at the door.

    1) Mercenaries already contains each character skin, model, movement, actions, and voices. It also includes each and every map that are in Versus.

    2) Versus is a mode worked off of Mercenaries. The amount of coding that went into changing the format of the game is all that was needed. CAPCOM said that they started working on this after the fact on a separate budget. It makes a lot of sense, especially after they finished Mercenaries. I’m sure an employee suggested, “Hey! We could make a pretty decent Versus-style game to compliment what we already did with Mercenaries.” And then they went on to do so.

It’s the reason why it didn’t take a whole lot of time to get out, but I assure you, the actual Versus Mode was not on the disc. Mercenaries and all that is attached to it was. All the download had to do was create a Versus Menu and change a couple things on the map. Hence why it was only 2MB.

  • Freaky Priest

There is finally some DLC again that could be worth it’s price and then it’s not available in Germany.

  • yamayamayaamaa

Left 4 Dead Survial Mode = FREE

  • Mcmax3000

Isn’t the stuff that’s already on disc only like 108kb instead of almost 2MB? I’m pretty sure the other on disc content that I’ve seen on Marketplace was not 2MB which makes me think that it’s not in fact on disc.

This isn’t me defending Capcom or RE5 because I actually thought the game was terrible.

And if by chance it is on the disc, for the people comparing it to EA’s unlocks with NFS, Skate 2, Tiger Woods 09, Burnout etc, that’s not really an accurate comparison because that stuff is all attainable for free by playing through the single player portion of the game, unlike this versus mode IF it’s actually on the disc.

  • Tekkie neXt

I mentioned what EA are doing because it’s a million times worse than what Capcom have jut done, EA are offering content not only on the DVD but already unlockable through gameplay, Capcom are are offering Content that is neither unlockable nor on the DVD.

128KB downloads are for things already on the DVD, 2MB downloads actually contain some content, in this case the basic text based code for the new menus, new competitive scoring system and to allow 4 players instead of just 2.

  • Vinclive

Nemesis: “Oh well! You can all complain while I shell out the LARGE AND VAST AMOUNT of AU$6.60 and enjoy the Versus mode.”

–> Look… if you’re buying this, every game developer will start doing it too! You’ll end up paying MORE for EVERY game. That’s a ripoff. Capcom, you’re not getting away with this.

  • tj sumpthun

Quit your whining! You will pay for more multiplayer maps so why would you not pay for multiplayer? Everyone needs to read the article in the back of this months OXM. It talks about how games rarely come with good multiplayer and good singleplayer. Capcom is making us pay so that it is actually good mutltiplayer. Would you rather of had free piece of crap multiplayer that you will never play? You people need to think before you speak instead of just getting angry cause you have to throw out $5.

  • Wonderclutch

I think this is a good place as any to state that I haven’t bought a new game since they went up 10$ in Canada. We’re now paying 69.99$ for new games here. This industry is going head first into it’s second crash. Enjoy the ride while it lasts.

  • Doh Ray Egon

@Tekkie neXt and others like him: It’s always funny to see people bitching about other people bitching.

  • votemarvel

I would have preferred to see them adding something like Horde from Gears of War 2.

Mercenaries is great fun but even if I get all the time bonuses, the game often finishes just as I’m getting into my stride. Being able to turn off the time limit and seeing how long you can last against ever increasing numbers of bad guys would have been great.

  • Exu

    BAD
    1. Can’t really see a versus mode “working” for Resi.
    2. Probably already on the disc, though the theories for it not being are plausible.
    3. Costs money.
    4. Further alienates user bases of Capcom and Microsoft, after other DLC shafts (see: SFIV).
    5. Could have been in the game on release.

    GOOD
    1.

  • Exu

    Almost forgot.

    6. Japs pay 160

  • I Super Sambo I

    400 MSP is about £3

    Get a grip people…

  • Mcmax3000

@wonderclutch We’re paying more because of the decrease in the Canadian dollar, not because of the Game Companies so boycotting them just means that you’re missing out on games you want to play because it’s not likely to change anytime soon.

I don’t know about you but I was paying 69.99 for my games for quite a while before the Canadian Dollar increased last year so now that it’s back to where it was, so are the prices.

  • bknight2k

What i have seen so far, the multiplayer DLC is pretty poor.
You can tell it was not in the original plan, I do plan to get 1000 GS from RE5 but the DLC is terrible.

  • Karachi King

Geez, there are so many whingers here.
The content is only so small because it reuses most of the assets from Mercenaries mode. Adversarial multiplayer was NEVER an advertised feature of the retail package. This is purely an add-on for those who want it.

Don’t like it, then don’t buy it. No need to act like you’re getting screwed over by something that’s completely optional.

  • uacostajr52

good lord PAY FOR MP MODES COME ON WHAT THE HELLLL!!!! How rude!!!!!

  • TeakLocket

So stupid should have put it on the disc =(

  • Andy888101

    i wish it was free

  • w00dm4n

Vader had a bigger file size than the standard 108kb unlock key.
But he showed up in online multiplayer without any downloading or updates.
he was even there if you played the game unpatched and stayed offline.

  • DOOBYDAR

No thanks capcom,Glad i did not buy the game yet.
@J0NGIE,your beer is average at best. Its still beer lol.

  • Shonk

wow 400 points to enable something thats no doubt already on the disk

i have really had enough of this

  • Shonk

RE5 was the next game i was going to order online
after trying my friends the other day

    not going to bother now

you people saying its fine need to get a grip

they are stripping out features that would already be on the disk
    if dlc didnt exist

    its a blatant price gouge

  • Ai Kago

People stop buying this stuff! What a joke, paying for things that are already on the disc, and should be for free anyway.

  • exprohound

its not a lot of cash but i agree it should have been included on disc f.o.c

  • MeS FEAR

Its not only Capcom. EA and other big companies are doing the same and ripping people off. They are doing that because of the political climate.

  • Mr Morpheus

To JonnyDFandango: I could not said it better myself. Very well said!!!

  • DONER KEBAB MAN

I love the game and I’ll be buying the ‘DLC’ though I can understand peoples gripes. I personally think the game should have come with the MP unlocked. In the last few weeks alone Ive forked out money for WaW maps, Gears 2 maps, Lips music (over priced) and movies in HD (overpriced).Im not moaning I just think in todays economical crisis Microsoft could be a bit more sensitive in their sales department. Arcade prices appear to be on the up. I reiterate that Res5 is a great game, though can you imagine having to have paid to play WaW online, on top of your internet bill, Xbox Live subscription. Its getting a bit out of hand.

  • XZEROEVIL

its says ur not able to dl it in japan but i had no prob downloading it and playiny it today (i live in japan) what i do gots a prob with it the WAW map pack that wont dl to save my life

  • BMW530XD

    Shame on You, Capcom!

  • Warrengonline

    @UCB Disco
Well said, well said. Not sure if it is fact, but well said. 400 Points is not much at all. It is a MODE that could have been included, but was possibly worked on AFTER RE5 was complete.

RE5 multiplayer VS in 1996? NEVER EVER crossed our minds, but I did always want a 4 Player co-op with people in the ORIGINAL game in a HUGE map all over the house with ‘communicators’ that literally ‘went out’ and came bakc online (outside of Party Chat) for that realistic play.

Now as for VERSUS, it is an awesome extra at 400 points. RE5 is not perfect, but with the right co-op partner the co-op part is awesome to play over and over and over again.

    @Shonk
Hmm, that bites, you’re missing out on a great experience – not exactly like Crackdown or Halo 3 co-op, but a Resident Evil (a tad, quite a tad watered down from RE4) experience you really should rent or gamefly it and play it through AT LEAST once co-op with your friend. At least up to level 3-1. Most of my friends who rented it said exactly what you said until the played 3-1 and they all went and bought it. I have one friend who thinks IGN is the freaking bible of game reviews, he bought it and is scared to open it (wants max trade-in value and didn’t like the less than 9 reviews – all the while playing Wheelman). IF DLC was not in place, this blog would not exist. Give RE5 a fair chance – forget about the DLC for a moment as The Mercenaries Mode will keep you busy long after you’ve completed the game – well AFTER you unlock it.

  • wolfzero01

Since it seems that the RE5 fanboys and people who say that its only $5 will by this without question, I’m sure this will end up selling really well. its obvious that Capcom and other developers don’t care about the complaints

I have a feeling that this is probably going to be something that is done by more companies in the future. The next Gears or Call of Duty will require you to pay 400 to 800 points in order to unlock the multiplayer modes that are all ready on the disk.

  • darkjester74

I’ve seen some videos of the slayers game type. I have to say it doesnt look very fun at all. Also, I hear the different characters are very unbalanced. Pass.

  • Ganon255

I was gonna get it, but now that I am done with the game I think I will pass. The price is not a problem, just the timing.

  • Blitzkrieg047

I hope this doesn’t sell well, not well at all. This sort of thing needs to be looked down upon. And don’t give me that crap about ’5 dollars isnt that much, get a job blah blah’. With that logic I could be like ‘Wanna buy this rock for a dollar? It’s only a dollar.”

Don’t support capcom and their ridiculous DLC.

  • MustardMan z

1.86MB Download… Paying for what you already paid… What a sad future for gaming. Let’s shell out our money for partially complete games!

  • Air23Maxx

I was going to pick RE5 up this weekend but after finding out that the DLC is actually on the disk, and we are paying to unlock it, I think I will show my disapproval and not buy the game at all.

  • Vasilii Zaytsev

Just read on Kotaku that this content was already on the goddamned disc. 400 Points for something already in the game? The file is 1.9 MB IN SIZE. Don’t BS me and say it’s not on the disc already.

  • MACPH1ST0

@ Vasilii Zaytsev: That Kotaku article is just as much rumor as the IGN article. While we’ll never really know the definitive answer unless someone with Capcom comes out with it, it’s pretty safe to say that if the download was just an unlock key, the download would have been a LOT smaller.

  • TROGDOR 007

I’ll wait until a official reply from Capcom (In which they will say it wasn’t on the disc), until I make a judgment, but this does look extremely sketchy.

Well, I rented RE5 and beat it, then I returned it and don’t have any desire to play it again, so it doesn’t matter much to me.

However, if this is in fact on the disc and that is determined as fact, I seriously doubt I will be playing any Capcom games anymore.
