E3, Events By Larry Hryb, Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson

  • Nanakai

Nooo, someone please make me a US resident!! Being at E3 (not E2 :P) is my dream

  • connor2k

    That is awesome!

  • roddymacd

and if your not in the usa get lost as you get nothing again

  • TrojanGuy2k

I only see 3 things. “Trifecta Picture Pack”, “Wireless Wednesday Registration Gamer Picture”, and “Activate Netflix & Win Registration Gamer Picture”. No “Kia Download & Win Gamer Picture” to be found.

  • MichaelDeM

Doh! Have to wait until 12:00 A.M. Pacific Time (PT) on April 18, 2009.

Yeah attending E3 would be a dream come true too.

  • WeakSasco

Do you have to actually use the gamer picture or just download it? Never been sure about those things.

  • razzleson

$3000? According to the link it’s only $2000, and that’s to help pay for the taxes for winning the car.

  • SaintAssassinX

The link to download the pic does not work. There is no kia registration pic to download on the page it brings up. Just has the old contests

  • MichaelDeM

I say read the rules of the gamer tag but normally you just have to download it to be entered.

  • SaintAssassinX

And you just cleared that up via twitter… lol

  • Major Nelson

The gamer pic will go live tomorrow. I’ll tweet when it’s up to enter.

  • DCOneFourSeven

Man, I can’t wait until I graduate Uni. Me and my class mates are all saying that E3 is a goal =D

  • NetGod360

It would be prize enough to get to see MS in action and meet The Major. No, that doesn’t mean I’ll give the other stuff back. See you at E3!

  • Intangible 360

I’m a US citizen…if only that were enough.

  • Runway 360

Oh, another LIVE thing which disappoints non-US LIVE members (sobbing).
I think $1000 is enough to pay for a round-trip plain ticket between Tokyo and LA if I reserve it earlier.

  • skyfire420

again i say hire a xbox staff that gives a **** about all the other countries that pay there salary.

  • ginaingr

    I wanna go ….. BADLY

  • JohnnyricoMC

Ah c’mon major, show the rest of the world some luv too.
or give the people that handle such contests in other countries a firm boot up their behinds.

    And we get what Major?………….Oh.

Perhaps you should change your job title to Xbox Live Director of Programming: U.S Only as you seem to be not doing anything outside the U.S are you?

  • lie07

    Hopefully they pick me :P

  • Freakout1

Do you have to be a Gold member to enter?

  • TheGrooveJesus

Oh god. Non-Americans screwed over yet again.

  • HunCity87

haha…all your rants about non US getting nothing are getting comical, it’s life, get over it. But hey, if major becomes Director of US Programming. I’ll gladly sign up to be Director of Great White North Programming.

  • Nanakai

Hmmm I appear to have started something, which wasn’t my intention. I wasn’t complaining that this was US only, I was just light-heartedly expressing my disappointment. Good luck for those who can take part anyway :)

  • yolarrydabomb

Can I has car to travel to E3?

  • The Dagda Mor

This would make my year for sure.

Let me win, let me win, let me win, let me win, let me win, let me win, let me win, let me win, let me win, let me win, let me win, let me win, let me win, let me win. Please…

  • threeleggedcow

A Kia? The thing would probably break down while taking you to E3.

So is this just to attend the Microsoft E3 Press Conference, or does it also include passes to the E3 Expo itself? Hopefully it’s the latter, since this one seems to be a return to the last great E3 of 2006 (before it got all scaled back). I had the chance to attend that one, and it was worth every sensory-overloading second! I felt like a kid in a giant candy store, and also got two Xbox 360 bags of awesome swag. And this year also marks the return of one of the best things about E3… BOOTH BABES! ;)

  • ravinshield

I live a couple of blocks from the convention center so ill be there no what what but i still want the free gamer picture.

  • Spargo CXVII

I will be happy just by getting into E3. But that’s just me.

  • Cardy69

shame not for UK residents, the kia soul is an awesome car! reviews of it are great, looks funky!

  • JohnnyricoMC

nanakai, you did nothing wrong as you were absolutely right.
MS is constantly whining they want to get a stronger foothold in Europe and Asia, yet they keep treating us like 3rd-class citizens, even though an European live gold subscription gives them more money than an American one with current exchange rates.

  • AriesDog

I should win this. Kharma-wise I’m owed a big one.

  • The Phazer

Major, if you can’t do something internationally, don’t do it at all. It’s that simple. Take those resources and use them for things that can be used internationally.

Otherwise all these words about not discriminating against non-US customers are utterly, utterly hollow.

  • munkyxtc

Hey Major, Following the instructions on the marketplace but it doesn’t look like the gamer picture has gone live as of yet on the web. It’s currently 9:19 ET…

  • DKR1138

I’d pay for my own plane ticket if I won this and flight isn’t cheap in Australia… the online community isn’t supposed to have barriers of nation dude.

  • The Dagda Mor

Apperantly all these people from Autralia, Europe, Canada, and Asia totally understand international law and have figured out a way around the restrictions on contests in their home country…

Or they don’t and are posting without full information. First time that has ever happened.

  • DKR1138

International law has nothing todo with competitions, i’ve won US competitions before on other gaming sites and they never discriminated over what nation you live in.

  • JohnnyricoMC

@ Dagda Mor, we know when our laws allow such contests.
other companies do international contests without any legal problems.
a contest like this one would have ZERO problems to be spreaded over more countries other than the US.
Americans like you just like to think you’re special. all it does is make your country look like a bunch of arrogant elitist pricks

  • silent mb

im from england so nothing for me:(

  • Frostshock

Check out http://www.out-law.com/page-6780. There is a lot more to running an online competition than just “letting everyone enter”. I know you’ll just call me an arrogant elitist prick since I’m American, but it was worth a try.

Since there is no way to enter using “no purchase necessary”, this becomes a lottery in most countries. We have to purchase an Xbox 360 in order to enter the competition.

If this pisses you off so much, talk to your politicians instead of just bitching on Major’s blog.

  • Azrane1

@JohnnyricoMC And non-Americans like you are the reason why

Come on down off your high horse and stop venting your frustrations against Microsoft at other people. It does nobody any good.

@Frostshock It’s true you have to have a gold membership, which costs, but if you were to sign up on the site, use a 1-month card, then select the gamerpic, you really wouldn’t need a 360.

  • Major Nelson

The picture is now available to download to register.

  • The Dagda Mor

We are elitist because an American company is holding a contest that only Americans can enter because of legal reasons (your laws not ours) and is for a prize in America…

Yeah so unfair that not everyone in the world can have everything that everyone else has. How mean of us.

  • Gamble79

I would love to back to E3! Its been years since I last went.

  • Three 60 Mafia

    US only? Well poop me.

  • PeacefulOutrage

For all of those complaining, why not ask Aceybongos? or whoever is the PR/community manager of xbox live in your region to solicit advertiser swag. I’m sure the demographic between countries is similar, so maybe European users can get a Citron and a trip to GamesCon…

  • Kenjuan

Thank you for including the silver members this time. It’s very much appreciated.

    @ PeacefulOutrage

We don’t ask as he’s about as useful as Major Nelson, in terms of answers to questions we ask. They are carefully glossed over with what he had for dinner tonight or links for us to check out new gamer pics which cost Microsoft Points.

People have asked questions about US only comps and promotions and we get the same story over and over but never anything about trying to rectifying it, or setting up Europe only promo’s. In fact our community manager has more or less closed his blog (Last entry 20 March) http://aceybongos.spaces.live.com/ and gone over to twitter only. Why should I have to create another account to find out what is happening in X-box europe.

Guess what the top thing is going on? Write a “Peggle Rap” (On twitter only) for a promo code. Yay!??

  • rastansaga

Wow, you’ll be the coolest guy/gal in town, driving that Kia whilst listening to your Zune.
