This week on Arcade Banjo Tooie and Virtual On

It’s a busy week for Xbox LIVE Arcade. Banjo Tooie and Virtual On are coming for 1200 points each. In addition, the popular board game Sorry! is coming to Hasbro Family Game Night for 800 points and The Maw will see the ‘Speeder Lane’ Game Add On for 100 points. Everything will hit this Wednesday.

  • ptuco

Yes! I love Virtual On! This will be a day one pickup for me.

  • Demented Warlok

Cool was wondering when the new games were coming for the Game Night.

  • Ganon255

I would like to get Tooie and maybe Sorry.

  • oGFeRNie

1200 points is a little too much..

  • Mikestoke

    Yay for The Maw ^_^

  • XstonefryX

Well, another batch of $15 games than a few people will buy. Jut read the comments in the Lode Runner thread to find out how much more they would have sold at $10.

  • Anonymous

oGFeRNie – 1200 points too much?

virtual on is a fantastic game totally worth 15 dollars – if you totally ignore it and not even try it-its your loss I guess

I tried lode runner and I don’t think it was worth 15 dollars – but believe braid was totally worth 15 dollars

try it before you dismiss it

  • MADEIRA STEVE88

Wheres Space Invaders Extreme? Wasn’t its release date in April’09?

  • Warrengonline

    Ohhh, Virtual On…. Online multiplayer?

  • Ruthless Image

*goes to buy retail games at Best Buy for 10$*

  • Number 905

Glad to see that The Maw is still getting a good batch of reasonably priced content.

Will most certainly be picking up Tooie. It’s a rarity to see a full retail game at a decent price, especially considering Tooie has additional functionality over the original release (working Stop N’ Swap).

Not sure about Virtual On. Looks like a poor man’s Armored Core. And you can pick up at least one title in the series for less than $15, so it doesn’t seem a very good one.

Family Game Night is continuing to be utterly ridiculous. Is there ever going to be a full retail package for $60? A full download of everything for $60? Or is it just EA being EA?

  • MACPH1ST0

Can’t wait for the new Maw level! So sad that it’s the last one, but at least there’s also ‘Splosion Man to look forward to from Twisted Pixel! I’ll get this with some of the 500 free points I got from Microsoft, apparently due to some Braid billing error? (anyone else get that email and 500 points?)

  • DamianIsabel

BANJO-TOOIE OFFICIALLY BECOMES THE BEST XBOX LIVE ARCADE GAME.

  • X Ray Hamburger

Day one purchase for Banjo Tooie. I can’t wait to finally close the chapter in my life involving the mystery of Stop N’ Swop that has been haunting me since my childhood lol. Not sure about Virtual On, it was a Dreamcast game and is made by Sega so it must be pretty good, I’ll check out the demo, but the 1200 price scares me away. Looks like a busy day.

  • Exu

Tooie and Virtual On hitting the same day for 1200 is a bad business decision, one of those games is going to lose out and I reckon it’ll be Virtual On, since Tooie’s had hype and such.

Maw DLC is always good, but Sorry seems a bit crap for 800.

  • phawx

$15 for Virtual On too much? You would not say that if you’ve ever played the game before.

  • Etherphoria

    Virtual On, Nice!

  • S H O O T 3 R Z

    @Ruthless Image: haha werd up

  • Archangel3371

Cool. I’ll definitely be getting Banjo-Tooie. I’m interested in checking out Virtual On. I never played it before but have heard good things about it.

  • Matthew M G

Crap–looks like I’m gonna have to load up on some points for Wednesday then!

  • Sneeches

will be checking out the demo for tooie, still not sure if i want this one or not. And sorry is coming out, sweet..been waiting for that sucker… but the price…damn.

  • Sneeches

also major you fail again!!!!! Your link for “Virtual On” doesn’t work.

  • dreampage

I can’t wait for Virtual On, SEGA arcade goodness again, just a few weeks after OutRun. Excellent. Almost a definite buy for me. I think this time both Banjo Tooie and Virtual On are worth 1200 Points. Sorry, however, isn’t worth 800 in my view but it’s an old problem with the business model of the Hasbro game. The Maw DLC for 100 will be a good buy I guess. So all in all, a great Wednesday! Virtual On FTW!

  • IKiddo

Finally the last Maw Dlc. Can get the 100% in that for .. GOOD!.

  • IconicSoulJA

    Rule of Thumb Microsoft:

Tell Devs that if they have an idea of what to price a piece of content or title, decrease that price by 400 MS Points and post it.

    You’d sell content/titles like mad.

  • Mighty Zoz

15 bucks on a N64 game? No thanks.

I’ll try Virtual On, if I like it I buy it.

  • darkjester74

    <--Maw is happy!! ^-^
$15 for Banjo Tooie seems a bit steep, but probably not for Banjo fans. I personally never got into Virtual On /shrug.

  • HT UK

    Yay Maw DLC!

    The rest…meh.

  • Red Dragon

1200 points = NO BUY! Of course, if either these titles are “accidentally” priced at 800 points for the first 12 hours, im in! Otherwise, I will continue to spend my gaming dollars on Steam.

  • Whet Wetty

I’ll just wait until Amazon has a “$5 off” sale on download codes for XBLA games. I remember when 1200MSP was reserved for only the choicest of titles… not remakes. Heck, Geometry Wars was $5 and it’s still one of the best arcade titles (replaced only by Geometry Wars 2). Screw this overpricing policy. There is a recession going on you know?

  • Exu

Yeah says the person who bought Flock.

  • AnEternalEnigma

    All overpriced crap.

Was totally going to buy Sorry for $5. Not touching it for $10.

The Xbox Live Marketplace and its gouging of prices during a recession is beyond disgusting.

  • AceBox89

Just bought games at Best Buy for $10 brand new with packaging and everything. So why in the world would I pay 5 bucks more for these than the 10 I just paid for Soul Calibur IV and many others?

IF you guys ever dropped these games eventually like retail then you’d make tons more on them. Now the only people that buy them are the ones that would have bought them no matter how much they were. The fans are the ones hurt by these prices and the potential fans don’t even give them a chance.

  • Chux

In for Virtual On. WOOT FOR VOOT!

Keep ‘em coming SEGA. $15 for Tooie and $10 for Sorry can get right out though.

  • OROSCO

1200 points, what a shocker. Dang, I used to like XBLA too.

  • Shiaoran

Can’t wait for a possible Oratorio Tangram release ^^

  • DelRiego

Why release ANOTHER Banjo game when there are tons of better old Rare games?

Killer Instinct, Jeforce Gemini, Battletoads, Conker, Perfect Dark

  • Anonymous

When the next dashboard patch out to reduce the lag ????

The one you released two weeks ago, had died by the looks of it DASHBOARD LAG has returned, and its slower than before.

    1200 points nar i’ll pass.

  • MACPH1ST0

@ phawx: Same for Lode Runner, but you know how that turned out. ;)

  • Full Sillouette

i miss the 400 ms point prices

  • Number 905

Honestly, people, while there are still some overpriced titles in the system, the days of 400 point games are long gone.

Think of what most of those were: bare bones arcade ports. They weren’t worth anywhere near 800 or 1200.

As a whole, Marketplace has gone beyond that. Games that come out at 800 points are now the steals, while 1200 points are either the occasional overpriced nonsense, or games of a higher quality, like these N64 and Dreamcast titles.

The service is evolving. It might not work well with how our pocketbooks are devolving, but it’s something that needs to happen, as the effort put into a game now is far more than it was back during the days of 400 point titles.

  • XxLightkunxX

DAMN you Microsoft! I didn’t know it was going to be this soon. Lode Runner for 1200 is a joke, but these games easily are worth $15, if not more IMHO.

DAMN you though, because my 360 got its THIRD RED RING OF DEATH.

    Christ.

  • oO MG81 Oo

More games at 1200MSP?, no thanks.

  • DamianIsabel

I laugh at people who say $15 is too much for Banjo-Tooie.
do you realize that this fantastic adventure/platform game will take you 50+ hours on your first run(trying to collect everything)?
it’s updated with hd graphics, surround sound, new stop ‘n’ swop feature and more goodness than you will get out of many retail games priced at $60.
wow, some people are ignorant…and stupid.

  • ibelievein93x
  • threeleggedcow

Think a game is too expensive? Don’t buy it and stop complaining. Problem solved.

  • MACPH1ST0

@ DamianIsabel: How dare you explain why a game is worth $15! You MUST be a Microsoft shill! I mean, how in this day and age could we possibly have an Arcade game worth $15???

  • Blue Thunder28

    TOOIE!!!

  • RainbowDespair

I’ve been looking forward to Banjo Tooie & Virtual On ever since hearing of their announcement. Some games are overpriced at $15, but for these two quality titles, that price is perfectly fair.

  • Vasilii Zaytsev

1200? It should be 800, Major… You’re never gonna get any purchases from me if they only sell 1400, 2800, and 4000 Microsoft Points Cards here in Canada. If I buy something for 1200, I’m left with 400 to do… what, with, exactly?

Besides, 1200 is over-priced. Lower it to 800, please.

I agree with the 100 Point price of XBLA DLC, though.

  • IconicSoulJA

    @ibelievein93x

Notice how Major didn’t post about it due to the Exclusive PSN Demo LOL! I love the games they play (both sides). So comical and childish. I would prefer if both parties stop this exclusive crap. I could care less.

  • SalamanderSkill

800ms points then 1200ms points an hour after release? Will incompetence be more of a regular occurrence with XboxLive management?

  • Ravage NZ

Buying both as soon as I see them on the marketplace :D

  • Type 0 x IV

Banjo-Tooie = Instant Buy. 1200MSP isn’t a surprise since Banjo-Kazooie was the same price and the game is more than worth it.

  • LapsonHK

What regions will Virtual On be available?

  • Turtle502

I feel the pricing for Banjo-Tooie is fair and right on, while Virtual On should be 800. Sorry! is probably fair enough at 800 points, unlike the other Hasbro titles, all of which are overpriced. Hopefully these higher prices will eventually evolve into higher quality *original* XBLA games. Fewer ports, more original exclusive content, please.

Regardless, weigh the value to you and buy what you want.

  • Lucky 13 X

    @ Number 905.

Very well said. These changes are just something we will all need to get used to, recession or not. Looking forward to both titles this Wednesday.

  • Freaky Priest

I bought 4200 points a few months ago and I still have about 3800 left because all the games I would have bought at 800 points are now 1200 points.

  • ToothlessFrog

Welcome to the new low price point… Bah, guess I’m pretty much done with the Arcade until something truly amazing and worth it comes out. Way to keep business strong MS and way to meet us at the middle ground between profit and giving incntive to buy.

  • the Woodmeister

Hmm a few more attempts by someone to make 1200 points the new 800. Sorry folks, it’s not working for me. $15 is just a bit too much to pay for an XBLA game.

  • Jelly Jiggler

why are people complaining aobut tooie and virtual on being $15 when they both had $50 retail releases back in their day and they sold well enough to warrent a re-release all these years later. Ive probally spent more than $15 on virtual on back when it was in the arcaades so this is a day one purchase for me that is totally worth the $15.

  • Ahmedz

anyone know what time they will be released? (GMT or GMT+3 timezone)

  • Karachi King

I remember HIRING Virtual On for a couple of days, and it cost me about $7. Now I can BUY it, for about $20 and play it for as long as I want, with online multiplayer, and customizable robots? Sounds good to me.

Also, I just did a quick search on eBay, and the Dreamcast version seems to go for US$15 and up (not including postage). Banjo Tooie seems to be similarly priced there.

  • GoobTuff

I’ll be getting Banjo-Tooie. I’m a huge Banjo fan and $15 for that game is well worth it.

  • CheekyLeeth

The reason people are complaining about the 1200 point price is that this time last year both of these titles would have cost 800. Take a look at Ikaruga and Rez HD, which are both re-released DreamCast updates. Then try and find any reason why Virtual On is any different. Braid and Castle Crashers, which are the games that changed the standard pricing, were new experiences which were unavailable anywhere else, and were both excellent games. People who complained that those games were 1200 had a lot less ground to stand on than anybody who is complaining at the prices currently. I speak as a VOOT fan, here, and I can categorically state that I want to buy the game but will not allow myself to on account of the principle. Until MS see some sense, I will not be giving them any more of my money.
