Not bad of a game, reminds me of Custom Robo (maybe Custom Robo was inspired by Virtual On?). 1200 is way too hefty. Kudos on the Dreamcast reference in there though, with the VMU still left in the game.

Now where’s my Bionic Commando demo?!

  • XxLightkunxX

Hey Major..you mind telling me why Xbox.com is f***ing up? Nowhere is the “login” button, nor do I even see the blank slates that usually take up the “Join Xbox Live now for Free!” that isn’t too far from the “Login” link either.

I can’t log in to xbox.com, and I can’t even get this demo.

    Back to topic though.

1200 points is a perfect price for such a game.

  • Dubbington

Awesome. I’d agree that some games are overpriced, but this ain’t one of them. SEGA are (or were) kings of the arcade, and this is one of their best. Worth every Point.

  • Ahmedz

for those who want to know. it’s clocked at around 223-228MB

  • bknight2k

loved the game but not worth 1200pts 800 yes

  • TaygetaVendetta

Amazing game, it’d be a shame if the pricepoint kept people from buying it. Very fun game online.

  • Ichiban Noob

TaygetaVendetta, all achievements already? Damn, that was quick. O_o

  • Sneeches

1200 pts for this, F U M$, this should be no more than 400$.

  • BROCK SAMPSON01

    Love this game

  • Exu

Ooh, gotta queue me up some SEGA arcade goodness. Just a shame that two actually good 1200 games came out simultaneously, becaus one of those titles is going to lose out and I have a sneaking suspicion it’ll be this one.

  • S H O O T 3 R Z

    VOOT!

  • Chux

I’ll be glad to not play Sneeches online with that attitude. 1200 ms points is a lot less than what it would cost for me to buy a new DC and then track down a copy of VOOT (5.4 no less).

SEGA needs to keep putting out these great games for the 10th anniversary of the DC.

  • Drunk Ste

Why is this 1200 points when other Dreamcast and last gen games are 800 points. It seems like a very odd decision seeing as hardly anyone has played Virtual On so it’s appeal is going to be limited, even more so when its priced at 1200 points.
While I do think 1200 points is a fair price for most Dreamcast ports it just does not seem right when it’s been standard practice to price them at 800 points, Rez HD, Ikaruga, Soul Calibur etc.
Still it could be worse they could be changing us 1200 points for even older stuff like N64 ports, oh no wait they already did that with the Banjo games.
Well at least they are not charging us 1200 for 8-bit remakes, oh wait they did with R-Type and Lode Runner.
Still at least they’re not stupid enough to charge 1200 points for a remake of a bonus game from the Saturn port of Duke Nukem 3D, oh wait they did with Death Tank.

  • PiaCarrot jawp

    Hahaha… I completed all achivements about 1 hour :) .

  • DeathConvoy

I’m not liking the new “standard” 1200 points for a port from an old console. Even Marvel vs Capcom 2, a fantastic game, seems unfair at 1200, especially when you look at the work gone into something like Castle Crashers, Braid and SSF2THDR.

  • S H O O T 3 R Z

    ditto above :)

  • Anonymous

    Sneeches –

400 points …. use your brain mate – your saying its same value as a mega drive game?

  • MACPH1ST0

Yeah you have to wonder how they come up with the pricing for a straight port like this (esp. when Rez HD and Soul Calibur are only 800), as opposed to games like Lode Runner that were completely redone from the ground up and packed with content.

  • Freaky Priest

1200 WTF? No Thanks, not even trying the demo.

  • Makavelo

    -Drunk Ste

    U Win

  • XxLightkunxX

For anyone that’s either complaining or wondering why it has the price point it has:

    1) Fanbase. Ever since the first two games were out, VO and VO:OT have a humongous *but not out of control* fanbase that have been craving for either a re-release or a 3rd Virtual On. Me? I’m super glad they chose the sequel (better controls, better graphics, more mechs) over the first one and added some more; great decision on Microsoft’s part.

    2) For how much time this game gives you, not to mention its real worth EVEN if you tried to find the original for a Dreamcast and paid for it, shipping and handling….you’d probably pay around this much in real money but without the online multiplayer and custom mechs bit.

So quit whining. THIS game actually deserves the 1200 points mark.

  • Chux

Also: Good luck playing MvC2 online when it comes out, after paying around $60 for an inferior xbox or PS2 second hand release.

  • MACPH1ST0

@ XxLightkunxX: That still doesn’t explain why they’re charging 1200 points for a direct port when other Dreamcast ports (that also have added “enhanced” HD graphics and online multiplayer) have only been 800. Plus we already have 2 people just posting here alone that have already got all 200 achievement points in an HOUR or two.

  • TaygetaVendetta

    @Macph1st0

What does it matter if the achievements take 2 hours or 2 weeks to get? I’ll still be playing the game even though I have all the achievements.

SEGA should have priced this at 800, like they did with Outrun a few weeks ago. Still, I’m enjoying it a ton and I don’t mind it at 1200.

This is not 2006 people, XBLA games are not 400 or 800 points only anymore.

  • MACPH1ST0

@ TaygetaVendetta: The point of achievements is that, for the most part, they’re supposed to actually be CHALLENGING to get so that you feel like you really achieved something by getting them. What’s the point of achievements if you can get them all in an hour or two? (unless you only care about increasing your gamerscore of course) And I’m sure they could have made some really challenging achievements in this game if they took the time to do it.

  • Dubbington

@ MACPH1ST0: This isn’t a Dreamcast port, it’s a port of an arcade game that the Dreamcast also happened to get a port of. Unlike the Dreamcast game, this is arcade perfect, and is based on the latest version of the game. The DC game was based on revision 5.4, whereas this releases is built on Ver.5.66. Does that make it worth more? I don’t know but clearly SEGA seem to think so, and it’s good enough a game that I’m willing to pay the asking price.

  • Drunk Ste

@ Dubbington: Later arcade versions of VO:OT used Sega’s NAOMI arcade board which was just Dreamcast hardware with extra memory, this is an updated Dreamcast port.

  • Karachi King

@MACPH1ST0: As Dubbington points out, this is actually an arcade port. Apparently version 5.66 added three new robots that were not in the Dreamcast version (5.45). The XBLA version also has online multiplayer.

  • XxLightkunxX

*sigh* MACPH1STO I’m not sure where this baseless hatred on the pricing is but if it’s such a problem, why bother posting?

There can be many sides to the argument of what constitutes price or not, but nobody complained *as far as I can tell* when people had to pay $10 for what is an ‘enhanced’ Pac-Man…but that’s Pac Man CE so stop whining.

  • threeleggedcow

I agree about the achievments. After reading them, they *seem* extremely easy to get, which is lame.

  • Dubbington

@ Drunk Ste: I know about VO:OT, NAOMI, and Dreamcast, but saying “It’s a Dreamcast port” implies that it’s just the DC’s version of VO:OT 5.4 with online multi and achievements slapped on, which it isn’t.

  • MACPH1ST0

@ XxLightkunxX: Yeah I don’t know where this “baseless hatred” on the pricing is either, since all I did is state why it should have been 800 points.
@ Dubbington: It’s close enough. There’s not really THAT much of a difference between the two versions.

  • Shiaoran

I thought this was the first game… But it’s Oratorio Tangram… MY FAVOURITE GAME IN THE SERIES! XD

  • NeoCutter

Don’t care what anybody says about why game should be what price. If 1200 is worth it to you, buy it b/c it rocks… if not… then don’t. As far as it being an “Arcade Port” or a “Dreamcast” port… again… who cares… but… when you go to choose a custom character… a Big old VMU pops up that actually says “DreamCast”…. I’m pretty sure that was not in the arcade version… lol

  • Protonus

In case any wonders, there is no splitscreen / local play option for this game.

  • Karachi King

@NeoCutter: Yes, that actually was in the arcade version. The customized robots you made using the Dreamcast version could be saved to a VMU and taken into the arcade and used there (at least in Japan). There was even a special disc released with the Japanese Dramcast Magazine that enabled you to customize the other 3 robots not in the DC version.

  • XxLightkunxX

    @Macph1sto

I mean your being against pricing or trolling the subject or anyone who supports it on ANY post Major Nelson talks about when it comes to games.

Good lord you had the words “I kiss ass to MS” because people kept saying how much Lode Runner was a rip-off. Crap’s ridiculous bro, grow up.

  • MACPH1ST0

@ XxLightkunxX: Trolling is when people complain about games being 1200 points for no reason other than they’re being cheap. And I don’t know wtf you’re talking about with your “MS words” when I was talking about how Lode Runner is worth the 1200 (despite that whole stupid price mistake fiasco). So whatever, get over it.

  • Pusherman 80

I had the money for the points, so I picked this game up. Glad I did, I’m enjoying the game, although I’m not as good at it as I was back in the day. I don’t care about the relatively easy achievements, since any achievement is a plus considering I played this game back in the day without worrying a thing about “achievements”.
