hey gurrilladust im on console number 7, just hope this one holds out or il get a new arcade console. Major can’t you give us at least a nxe dash fix. It takes me nearly 20-30 seconds to few each page on the marketplace & the delay when viewing friends list, delays so much it cuts the music playing on the console. Still waiting on the fast forward/rewind of music on the 360 since 2005. Any hope on that?

avi is a container, you guys are probably referring to xvid/divx. xvid and divx have been playable on the 360 for a while now. and i don’t know why it’d be any different after NXE, i haven’t had any problems. you do have to re-download the xvid/divx codec after updating to NXE.

You won’t see anything different, but the Guide will still be as slow and broken as ever

I Just got the good old E74 error a few days ago and have to wait a week just to get the empty box to ship another dead console back!! yay! At least its covered under warranty now…..meh

Can anyone enlighten me why, with Xbox Live down I can no longer run my Xbox as a media center extender?

I tried firing up my extender this morning and it attempts to login to Xbox Live?? As it is down,the connection fails and the Xbox returns to the dashboard…

I cannot think of any logical reason why the Xbox ‘requires’ a Live connection to play the media on my media server..

Any ideas?

Well My online day Shot xbox Live and windows live here are offline for me not even software like Microsoft office 2007 because of Live Office Office word then I got windows Live IM Mail Writer Windows Live Assistant sign in offline.

Basicly everything I do requiring a live ID down no one mentioned Windows Live would be down Also

Does anyone know if this Maintenance update will fix the Dashboard lag?

It’s very annoying when you are in a game and you get a message which takes almost 30 seconds or longer to look at. That’s opening the guide, the message, closing the message and guide combined.

This wasn’t happening after the New dashboard came out but over time it got worst. I’ve cleared my cache a few times but it doesn’t help. Other friends of mine are complaining about this as well.

@metallicorphan – In my experience usually between 7am and 9am our time. Should be just after the maintenance ends.

This maintenance sucks, means I have to do something else. Maybe I’ll dig out my Wii…

I gotta admit this sucks. First day of my vacation and Ghostbusters comes out I can’t even play parts of the game (multiplayer) Was excited for that.

Of course they say 24 hours but experiance dictates that there will be lingering issues for at least 72 hours.

I wish these half-minded dipsticks would fix the license transfer tool since they can’t make a fully working 360 that doesn’t RROD, causing me to go out yesterday and buy a new Japser revision, which leads to me not being able to play ANY of my downloaded arcade games unless i’m signed into Live.

Backward, greedy assed team/department/whoever the hell you people are.

This is my 8th 360 by the way. I swear if this one breaks down, i’m smashing it to pieces and mailing it to you people with extra stuff inside that’s guaranteed to be suprising.

What the F***? The next version of the dashboard will be faster? I don`t wanna wait for the next version to get a simple thing fixed. The Problem is here since at least november last year. When XBOX Live goes down for a whole day, Microsoft should automatically refund XBOX Live gold subscribers 11 points. Sure it isn’t much, but that is the “value” (kind of) of missing 1 day of Live. (If 365 days of Live is $50 and 4000 points is $50, then 1 day of live is worth almost 11 points.) Alternately, they could just plan on giving out 1 premium theme or gamerpics at each outage. Another idea would be to make the next deal-of-the-week extra special by an even lower price, and/or better selections of discounted DLC.

What would it take for Microsoft to make people “look forward” to an occasional outage?

I seriously hope they fix the lag with the guide. I normally overlook it, but it’s just more of an annoyance as time goes on.

I regret purchasing all my new maps and arcade games at my real home.. (i’m at my Dad’s for the week and can’t play any of my purchased content offline on his xbox) oh well i guess ill go out and buy prototype or red faction.

I think the guide lag is caused by your xbox not being to immediately fetch information from the Live servers. It happens a whole lot to some, hardly to others.

I just wish the Xbox would cache some data to eliminate constant fetching.

That’s the License Tool i’ve been trying to use for my new 360. I only used it once, and had to use it again recently but it doesn’t work at all. Over 700+ pieces of downloadable items, NONE of them working offline.

I forgot to add this to my list of irritations with the 360: all of your saves not working when you move your HDD to a new console with NXE. No longer will you see some info pop up telling you that the 360 has to perform some actions to your HDD for your saves to work. So yeah…. a format was in order, losing everything I had saved.

@InfinitiProject The license process is HORRIBLE. They (Microsoft Support) expect you to redownload every piece of content to repair the license for it. I had to change consoles and in order to get my downloaded content to work I had to redownload everything to the new console. They need a “redownload all” button that just goes through you entire library and attempts to redownload the license for everything instead of making users go one by one. (Don’t they realize that some people have huge Rock Band 1 & 2, Guitar Hero, etc Libraries of files already?)

I own over 120 Arcade titles and all of the RB DLC and it took me a little less than 2 hours to redownload everything. Yes, it was a pita but it wasn’t too terribly bad. I would have to agree that a “download all content I own from X game” would be quite handy. I don’t think a “download all” would be great for the 20GB owners.

yeah i didnt have a chance to download all my Fallout 3 content again when my 360 came back from RRoD,so now i can’t play it(without it totally screwing up my current game save)…which would of been the perfect game to play while XBL was down

before i forget,is anyone having a problem with the call of duty map pack 2,when they go to play,you have to redownload it(and the others)all the time…when i select say,map pack 2 hard core,it takes me to a marketplace screen,and i have to select one,i select the makin day map and it downloads instantly(because i already have it)..and that somehow makes the other maps appear then,and everything is alright…but its doing this everytime i go to play it

I shall be without my Xbox-360 for at least 2-3 weeks due to the E-74 failure. Just sent the box back on Saturday.

However I choose not to cry about it (even though this is my 5th Xbox-360 failure). Earlier I made the decision that the 360 is the system to own this generation & I still believe that. So live with it .

Well most of the gamerpics and game pics are showing back up in many places “e” is there a possibility that you guys can bring LIVE back sooner? I know you said “Up to 24 hours” so you have that long but if things are working it doesn’t mean you have to keep it down that long…….

I know it’s a long shot but I wanna try out the new multiplayer on the new Ghostbusters game.

Id rather them use all the 24 hour downtime to make sure live comes back up without any problems well more problems than there is.

Recent update by E on Xbox Operations Blog confirms Microsoft are aware of issue that under Beta and RC versions of Windows 7 the 360 won’t work as an Extender during this Live downtime as in these versions the Xbox has to log onto the network with a Live account.

This is confirmed as a temporary thing that won’t be in the final retail release of Windows 7 (Thank the gods!)

I actually emailed part one of this. Apparently I can’t play Forza 2 because I am off line due to my DLC. Fix would be transfer my lincenses over on xbox.com, but the site is down and my lincenses are at my vaca home that’s not always hooked up to live and I carry my HD with me when I go to the beach, so I would rather not do it anyway.

Then, I realize I can’t watch netflix watch it now.

And finally I can not watch videos using XMP11 because I can’t access my optional media update.

Understood at first, now I am a little aggravated, seems to me my xbox is useless unless I’m connected to LIVE. Oh well, guess I’ll revisit Crackdown tonight, since the last CD uppdate wipped my save I can enjoy it all over again.

Was going to play one of the Community games during the downtime. What a stupid idea, not being able to play them offline. What am I going to do with the game offline thats so bad? If I had known about that, I wouldn’t have wasted the points. Bravo.

NXE is a total POS, just as I said it was going to be when they premiered it at E3 ’08.

The most egregious problem is the lag. I see some people saying they have no lag, and I’m eternally envious of them. Everyone I know who owns a 360, myself included, has had horrendous lag getting menu data since NXE was published. Trying to re-download Portal: Still Alive the day before yesterday, my system sat there for 45 seconds with a grayed out “Buy”/”More Info” screen. This lag is COMMONPLACE. I’d love to say it’s my network, but since it’s happening to every local friend I know with a 360 and amongst us we have all of the major regional broadband ISPs represented, the fact is it’s any of our network connections.

Remember the reason you guys at MS peddled the new dashboard: To make it faster and streamline things over the old dashboard? It’s an utter failure on every account. Menus take longer to load than I EVER remember them doing on the dashboard, even at the worst of times, and there are two to three times more menus to dig through to get to do even the simplest function unless you forgo the entire NXE and use the Dashboard-lite guide. What the hell ever happened to being able to manually pause an active download? That never made it back into the dashboard when NXE dropped.

Continued: We’re rapidly closing in on a year now and avatars have pathetic customization. With as much emphasis as you guys put on the whole avatar system, I expected FAR MORE clothing options than there are. Most of what is there hasn’t changed since release. Where are clothes promoting MS’s own IPs? Like a shirt with the GOW Red COG/Skull on it? Where are clothes that are unlockables – something that was mentioned would be done with the avatar system?

NXE is bloat, plain and simple. It’s got a lot of bugs and it doesn’t work any better than the old dash. In fact, in my opinion, it’s far worse than the old dash. Not only slower and buggier, now, instead of one block of an ad on the old dashboard, the ENTIRE BACKGROUND gets to be an ad, and we get to pay $49.99 a year to see them, not to mention the money we spend on points and microtransactions. I don’t mind the ads in 1v100 because it’s provided free (to a point), but I’m tired of having a feature download pop up shelling out the latest Kia Soul theme.

Hey Captiosus77, do you get the lag when you’re connected to live via a router and when you’re directly connected to your broadband modem?

I get that lag here too when browsing the dashboard and when trying to buy something. Not to mention when you go back to the dash in a party everybody’s voice starts to lag thanks to Live pulling icons or whatever for the dash

You would think we pay $50 a year on top of useless ads for quality service instead of glorification which sometimes too much for the bandwidth allocated to the service…

Wow 45 seconds! thats crazy! just think if you had to wait 50 seconds. Thats almost a whole minute. I dont think I ever have to wait more than 10 or 20 seconds. I dont know what I would do if I had to wait 45 seconds. Maybe I would cry like a little baby and suck my thumb. Or like a normal person just go and get a beer instead of a stopwatch. You should be grateful, you whiny *****. Considering the amount of people, the amount of data, and time that goes into live everyday your lucky you dont have to wait 5 minutes to fetch data.

The only thing that I want to know is are we gonna get a spring update or just a fall update. Or will we get a summer update.

Wow, you drink beer and want to buy items/play dress-up with your Avatar with a Marketplace? Are you 21 or 12?

I really don’t understand some of the stupidity going around…it’s ONE DAY! You will lose more than a day a year due to dumb things like storms and internet outages (and if you are that worried about a refund for one day of Live being down, you will probably have your internet turned off at least once a year for non-payment!).

The laggy guide is something they are working on, but this maintenance isn’t going to fix it, so don’t think all will be well tomorrow…in case you don’t understand “maintenance with no visible changes”, what they do is install the new features, updates, and changes into the servers, and leave them “turned off”. That allows them to set up “beta-testers” to run the new features and make sure everything works, and find problems and fix them, all before releasing to the public.

There are a few ways to work-around the laggy guide…first, and easiest, is to use xbox.com for all your browsing/ shopping. It shows all the new content, every day (except today, yes, I know), does NOT lag, and has a larger que than when you shop on your console (29 items rather than 6). The other alternative is to keep your HDD with more free space. I have two 360s, both with 120Gb drives, and if I use the marketplace on my “full” 360 it lags, if I use the one with 80Gb free, it is fast and smooth. Obviously it is not ideal to delete items just to have a faster guide, but if you have expired movies or games installed that you don’t play, you can free up 10-20GB pretty fast, and it WILL improve your dash experience.

Another point is, that there’re some peeps that don’t own a PC but a 360. They don’t have access to xbox.com cuz there’s no web-browser integrated. I had to set up an e-mail-address for two of them so they could use XBL at all cuz of that… and that was actually lame.

Well the point is: I (and many others) pay a good bunch of money for a service that is broken right now. There’s no point in “work around” such problems. We pay for a product, the product is broken. Full Stop.

Or do you drive a car that stops working every 10 Mile and work around by just driving it 9 Miles – or in the case of “use xbox.com” – use another car? Didn’t think so…

@UKresistance – clear your cookies and cache and reload the page, it’s up dont worry just have to recycle your old files. I think you can also solve the problem by just flushing your DNS but I didnt try that.

you have to be joking right?… there is no software update for the 360 for a few more months so your dashboard isnt going to load any quicker because they have maintained there servers.

I don’t know how many times it has to be said. The maintenance was never going to fix the dashboard loading issues.

But one thing I do wish is that there was some sort of iPhone app for xbox.com. Please, whoever is in charge of this stuff. I would actually pay for this.

I think during the maintance are some Arcade-Games was going lost. Sonic 3, Comix Zone and so on are all gone from the Marketplace. And wheres the Arcade Games for today (waiting for Magic!)?

And i cant download the optional media update for some reason…it goes to 1% and then error message. I dont know if other downloads are broken too

okay Sam and Max is up,but i can’t retrieve data from the marketplace,so i can’t select it to download it..is there still some teething problems?…or is it just me?

Oh, while a ton of other stuff vanished, at least Space Invaders Extreme and Arkanoid expansion packs are listed, even if they don’t work!
Yes, you too can pay 240 points for retro Space Invaders, which was advertised as being in the game in the first place!
Or failing that, how about paying 240 to buy those last episodes for Arkanoid? You know, where there was absolutely no indication whatsoever that you weren’t actually buying a full game when you bought the “full game”? Where the trial said “purchase the full game to play all episodes”?

I really don’t like the new page from an aesthetic perspective. If it was “customizable” where I could add additional elements to it or take things away, that would be cool. As it is, it really sucks. Did you just hire a beginner web designer and they are just figuring things out?

There was something about it I liked, but after digging around a bit I can’t recall what it was. The old page was vastly superior in design, layout, and usability. I do like the popup when you put your mouse over a “friend” in the list.

Ok so Xbox.com is still hosed Im still getting errors and I did clear my cache.

Also I love how I can’t even redeem my code that came in my Ghostbusters game. Not that I need it to play or anything but it would be nice to be able to use the codes I’m given.

man the new look of the my xbox section on xbox.com really sucks. it seems like it is just a place holder, or someone forgot to finish uploading the rest of the code. if that’s the way it is going to look from now on, the you need to give everyone the option to replace the ugly gray background with a pic, theme or the option to return it to the way it was.

It’s quite disappointing that AFTER 24hrs of maintenance, LIVE is broken and last week arcades are gone. Not to mention the mess with Magic and Sam & Max.

Just to let you all know that the Market Place for Australia is very very slow and your not able to download any demo’s or arcade xbla titles. I hope it gets looked into soon as its quiet annoying.

I love the fact that MS always makes no comment when something is broken.

According to xbox.com, the Space Invaders add-on does NOT add achvs (still only 12 listed), BUT, since it is so hosed right now, who really knows! I am also very disappointed in some of the changes (especially when we were told repeatedly that “we won’t see anything different” (I know they said console, but there was no reason to mess everything up on xbox.com), and having to take time to “learn” how to do something simple like compare games is ridiculous! (You have to put your cursor over their gamerpic, in case anyone else needed to know)…and why exactly don’t the Ghostbuster codes work? I was told when I picked my copy up from Gamestop that they weren’t going to work because Live was down for maintenance (which wasn’t true at 1201 CST), and yet it didn’t work, and here we are, a day and a half later, and, just like with Sacred 2, our codes don’t work. Yes, it’s only a different color suit, but that’s not the point…if you sell something with any kind of content code, it should work when the game comes out.

AND WHERE DID BIG SURF ISLAND GO???? It’s no longer on the marketplace!

Luckily, this whole thing went off without a hitch.

At the moment I can’t download Sam & Max, it says the usual “Can’t retrieve information from Xbox LIVE” message. It happens elsewhere, too. Also, some Xbox.com features are missing and some pages don’t display at all.

Not sure if anyone else had this problem or reported it. During the maintenance, I could not launch Windows Media Center extender on my 360. It gave me a message like “This game requires a connection to xbox live”. I am using Windows 7 Release Candidate 64 bit if that makes a difference.

Oh this gets better and better. Turns out there are TWO episode packs for Arkanoid! And they are both 240MSP! And they are both 108KB! And so the full total for the full game is 1280 MSP! And you still can’t “download” them, or anything at all, even if you want to! Thanks Microsoft!

Yea before it was giving me an error message when I try to download Magic on Arcade. Now it deducted the points and I am getting an error message saying the download could not be completed with the status code 80070057 which if I researched correctly means I need to free up space on my HDD, but like I have 2.2 GB free so yea.

Brilliantly, it charged me 1600 points for Sam and Max before giving the “Could not be downloaded errors”.
Every time after that I had the option of “Download Again”.
Which never worked.

Now I check, my points are still gone but the “Download Again” has reverted back to “Confirm Download” and they want ANOTHER 1600 points.

My points are still gone, so what gives?
What do I do now?!

Well, unfortunately this sort of thing always happens after “maintenance”. Did you folks really believe this time would be any different? It will all get sorted in time and laughed off by the talking heads at MS as usual. Patience…

btw…my xbox section doesnt look so bad…the only thing that looks bad is the gray background…there should be a picture or something

typical, xbox live returns & my brother get his third Three Red Lights.. I am just hoping it’s within warranty. I can’t even return it through xbox.com support as it seems it won’t let me sign to report it! Il maybe try calling xbox instead..

Darkmime I have the same problem with Magic. I spent the 800 points and it wouldn’t download. I went back and It wanted me to buy again. I even went into Download history and it’s there, but it still wants me to pay the 800 again.

I’ve just tried to get the demo of Magic by pressing ‘(X) Download now’ got the “Couldn’t download” error. Then discovered it’s charged me for the 800 points for Full Game.

So how do I go about getting my 800 points back for something I only wanted to look at.

BTW: 2 downloads I added to my queue before the “upgrade” failed and “Sonic the Hedgehog 3″ is no longer visible on Marketplace.

Microsoft has made no comment on this problem, but they have been deleting comments from the Xbox Live Operations blog that used the name “Xbox Live Server Maintenance Team”

Strange they have time to remove posts but not make their own.

well,i tried downloading Sam and Max again a few minutes ago,after actually paying for it this afternoon(6hrs ago)…and yup,its not even registering that i have paid for it now,it now has 1600 points back next to the full game(it did have a tick this afternoon)…but of course my account has still been r*ped of 1600 points

Is anyone else having disk read issues. After the update finished this morning I tried to download the DLC code for Ghostbusters to have it say invalid code which it still does, and then tired to play the game again only to have it not even read the disk. I tried a DVD and a music CD aswell and nothing works at all. Just wondering if I was alone in this.

its just bad business not responding to a problem like this….all we get is the generic xbox.com message….

would it be so hard to say “hey guys we had some hiccups and are working on it right now” you know, a little nod to the people that use and buy their product.

An update would be nice, but usually we the community get yelled at for not being patient, etc…which is total b.s. but anyway, I just figured an update would not kill them but i guess it would since this has gone on all day now.

Is anyone else experiencing their xbox freeze on the dashboard at random times? The xbox has not fully crashed as I could still talk in party chat to some friends but the xbox is unresponsive to the joypad and wont do anything until i switch it off. I thought it might be the xbox playing up, but my brother and a friend had the exact same problem earlier on.

I just noticed that I can’t view friend’s achievements anymore through xbox.com.. the compare link is gone and clicking through shows my own. Was this removed on purpose? Seems odd that achievements are private now..
