John Schappert returning to EA

In case you have not heard the news, I wanted to let you know that John Schappert has decided to return to EA as their COO. John had a positive impact on the Xbox business and everyone here at Xbox wishes John the best of luck. With this change, Phil Spencer (MGS) and Marc Whitten (Xbox) will now be reporting directly to Don Mattrick.

I thought you guys would appreciate the update.

Edit: Updated to clairfy that Phil and Marc will report to Don.

Worked with John more than a few times. Best of luck to him and his new role at EA.

  • Zeouterlimits

    Huh, surprising.
Enjoy his presenting at the conference (hope this doesn’t mean more Mattrick :D ).
Wish him the best back at EA.

Aww, and I thought he was doing an amazing job during MS Press Conferences at E3!

Cool guy! Wish him the best.

  • AIaskanGrown

i guess MS should have given him that raise.

    ;)

  • metallicorphan

shame, wish him luck…why are EA stealing all your crew?….are you next for EA,major?? :(

  • whitesoxfan3415

@Zeouterlimits Maybe major will do it! I bet it will be Mattrick though.

  • Darth PaulBlack

wish peter moore would come back :(

  • Blackbolt GT

    Larry,

I hope you’ll be doing the Press Conferance next year. Don is ok, but he does stumble a bit. We need someone who can deliver the spoken word, you can do that.

  • moocow21

Mr. Schappert wasn’t exactly my favorite E3 Conference spokesman (alas, the best were Peter Moore and J Allard!), but he seemed really enthusiastic about Xbox and gaming in general so I wish him the best of luck over at EA.

  • Wet Vein

Ahhh… that blows. I really liked that guy. He wasn’t the greatest ever (Peter Moore) but he was pretty good. He seemed like he really cared about what he and the team were doing… he will be missed. Mattrick is another story. He reminds me of Goofy. -But he did make Test Drive… and i played it allot.. man i feel old.
    LOAD “Peter Moore”,8,1

  • logikil

So when is Xbox PR going to comment on Mr. Balmer’s slip of the tongue today? I can’t imagine that was something you guys would have expected to have to wake up and deal with today.

  • MeS FEAR

good luck john…you did a good job at ms…you will be missed for sure…even from us “the community”

  • Gh0sT B4cKFir3

@logikil, i dont see why that is such a big deal.

    1. announce coming out in 2010, okay i think many of us knew that already.
    2. announcement of a new 360 console/sku, would include the project natal accessory, and possible a redesign, of the console, (ps2 to ps2 slim)

btw…who is going to do the keynote’s now, I vote for J. Allard.

  • JDBizz

Major, I think your comments software is broken.
I’m sure it is not functioning correct, as we have had 13 posts on this topic, and not one b1tching about the guide lag.

Have Litheon get on that toot sweet.

  • Vasilii Zaytsev

Damn, I saw an E3 interview with him on GameTrailers and he cuts straight through the shit. Microsoft needs more guys like him.

  • NOPECK7

Remember Peter Moore Got fire from Microsoft Oke

  • CrazyCougar

Best of Luck to John, and best of luck to Phil and Marc as well.

  • Logic Squirrel

Well he did not last long did he, at this rate no one will want the job lol.

  • IconicSoulJA

I’m submitting my resume to be the Vice President of Xbox Software and Live Servies.

hey major can we expect you to go to EA after next years E3?

just seems like peter moore left for EA shortly after E3 2007 and now john schappert doing the same in 2009

we’ll have no one left by 2015….as long as you and e stay we’ll survive ;)

  • Snake eyes 211

    not cool. bad .ea.

  • Pandapadawan

I want Ballmer for the next E3 conference.

  • Shamrock

Good the faster we get rid of the EA crowd the better. Remember most of the MS execs that came from EA were the same guys that Put out shovelware junk and rushed games to make a buck.
