Avatar Summer Wear

It’s Officially Summer, which means (at least for the Northern Hemisphere) its time to bust out the warm weather wear. The following items are now available for download as part of the latest release of apparel for your avatar:

Male

  • Rashguard
  • White Vest
  • Swim Shorts
  • Surfer Shorts

Female

  • Flower Vest
  • Surfer Hot Pants
  • Surfer Shorts
  • Surfer Skirt
  • Surfer Dress

All clothing choices are free, and will remain available. It is easy to tell what is new when you are in the avatar editor, just look for the gold star. Any item of clothing with a gold star is new since the last time you signed in to the avatar editor.

Incoming torrent of Southen Hemisphere-dwellers complaining despite essentially getting their winter wear two seasons in advance in 3, 2, 1…

  • IconicSoulJA

    Um its not up yet!

  • AIaskanGrown

is this the last release before the avatar store comes out and we all get to pay for avatar apparel

  • Arsenic13

Probably the 2nd to last AIaskan. Probably one more set of stuff in the fall. Im looking forward to avatar add ons from games, not paying for them.

  • Exu

Probably not, some clothes still haven’t been released yet. From the preview program I distinctly remember two other cowboy hats and many more sports shirts for regions other than Europe, among other things, so those should hopefully be out before too long.
Bit of a shame the avatar updates have gone from bi-weekly to tri-weekly though.

  • Arsenic13

Im hoping those performance upgrades to the guide come before the fall with everything else. I admire the PS3s update system. They get small but nearly monthly updates to continually improve things.

  • Fat Lebowski

Still no bowling shirt? bummer man.

  • jr josh

Not showing up yet. Do I have to sign out or something?

  • Xbudz LIVE

maybe the swim trunks were too risky and they took em down. j/k

  • davidkenobi

I am waiting for a beach theme now ! Sun, sand and few waves …

    @Arsenic13

& do you know how much of a pain it is to regularly install PS3 updates?
if Sony adopted Microsoft’s ‘update’ feature instead of users having to completely rewrite the OS firmware, then it would be a much smoother experience.

    The same goes for Arcade titles on PSN;
i recently download the 190mb game from the Playstation Store (7mins), then had to install it (5mins), then had to download the 220mb update (6mins) (which is bigger than the actual game so it includes game i just downloaded with it – so i have just downloaded the game twice :?…), then i had to install the update (6mins), then finally i could play the game (if i’m still awake).

The same thing on XBL goes like this: download game, install update (5seconds), play.

I’m wondering Major..when is the Avatar store coming up?

I for one will NOT complain about having to pay to get clothes when it releases; have you seen the laughable “Home” on PS3 and their selection of clothes? It’s so bad for how long it’s been around there are HARDLY any clothes available at all! I envy them for the SF themed outfit but the Avatar store is the only one that will seemingly give my Avatar a Halo 3 shirt.

By the way, how’s that going to work? I distinctly remember reading about “unlocking clothes based on the games you play” when it was advertised with the E3 coverage; there was a Halo 3 shirt that was shown and if you can also get sweatjackets and whatnot then I’m even closer to personalizing my own to look like me……which is real cool.

I await the day I give myself a better, more expansive look when THAT releases.

  • BillyMagnumFOD

How come the girls always get more? whine over?

  • UND3RxOATH

I still haven’t gotten the new clothes yet, and yes…I’ve checked many times. Only gold stars on the NERD clothing pack.

  • CANADA36O

i too have only the e3 nerd clothes showing up, 1 friend has the new clothes tho :/

  • Thiago123

Looking forward to checking these out later today, but as a martial artist, I’d really like to see judo and bjj gis for my avatar. I’d be willing to pay for that. Just please don’t fill the avatar store with crap like…Socks and Sandals (UGH).

  • Wodkaredbubu

Don`t see em summer clothes anywhere. Not up yet?

  • Evil Romer

@BillyMagnumFOD The girls always get more clothing options because they require it. The first thing my girlfriend wanted to see when NXE came out was the selection of shoes for Avatars and in her mind, female Avatars should have two or three times the shoes that are up there currently =p

  • RidinSlow

Updates on the PS3 are annoying to me mainly because you cannot ignore them if you are connected. If you disconnect, you can skip over them.

The install process is kind of lame, but I feel that it makes the downloads go faster. Demos seem to download faster on PSN over XBL. But since you have to install it can take longer all together. I don’t mind, though since I’m used to doing this on computers and the PS3 has a structure similar to that of a computer.

Home avatars are pretty cool, but I can’t imagine spending money on the clothes or decorating my apartment. Just as I do with XBL and the avatars I only get the free stuff. What I do like about home is the game spaces that Developers/Publishers put up there.

Yes; again it’s annoying to have to download all the spaces and then wait to load, but they’re usually pretty small and download quickly. Once you’re in you get to play unique mini-games that have turned out pretty fun. Home has a lot of potential and developers such as EA and Capcom have really gave us some tastes of the possibilities to come. XBL has nothing like it.

I am another who enjoys the frequent updates to the PS3 system. No; I don’t enjoy being excited for playing a game only to have to wait for a system update, but I do enjoy the fact that features and enhancements are constantly being addressed as needed and not being saved back for big releases.

  • DTA MoonDawg

When that avatar stores comes out, I REALLY hope I can buy a Bungie Studios T-shirt for my avatar, hehe.

  • RANGER1991

hey Major, its not up yet

  • Wodkaredbubu

Larry, that stuff is still not up yet.

  • Anonymous

Not that I really care that much, but while it looks like some people have the clothing, other of us still do not.

  • ItsNymo

hmm, It’s still not up for me, even thought the dashboard has been updated to show that there’s new Summer avatar clothing available.
I guess it’s just like Chris Cashman announcing during the 1 vs 100 Beta on Primetime: For some people, it’s there, but for others, it’s not… =/

  • R U Dum 2

Humm still not up for me . this is odd

  • Anonymous

    nice finally some decent clothes

  • DarkGin87

If people have trouble finding these clothes like i did

they weren’t showing up so you have to go in to system settings, then memory ,then go in to your hard drive and then system data and delete the avatar data.

you then have to go in to the avatar editor then back out then back in and it will work thats how i fixed it anyway

  • Echelon23

Yep, same issue here, not showing up for me, lame :P I was looking forward to wearing some summer cloths lol.

  • R U Dum 2

I just got mine , they showed up on there own . late but there they are .

  • Deadly Moves

    Finally! the wifebeater(vest) is available!
But Major, why do we have to wait 3 weeks instead of 2? when the avatars 1st came out, new items were available every 2 weeks…?

  • Jaymo1978

Wait… “White Vest?” Dude… isn’t that a tank top? Let’s just say that doesn’t look like something you could get by with wearing as part of a 3-piece suit….

  • Monster Warfare

They look good, wearing them now!

  • XxLightkunxX

You know….you would THINK males would be able to go topless and females would get bikinis but….

This is RARE designing the clothes and they’ve disappointed us multiple times. Jeez. I ain’t blaming your Major but too much of the clothing offered to us is just……boring. Generic. (Like “Thrift store” generic) I’m not even sure if the reason why more bold clothing isn’t approved whether it’s the ‘family’ rating or some sort of red tape but jeez come on.

  • Casserole

    The flower vest is urghhhhh.

  • Blue Thunder28

feels like there was missed potential with this batch of clothing.

  • Arsenic13

Summer clothes but no shirtless option? Its hot over here!

  • Anonymous

…still waiting for a decent, sizable, clothing update or unique clothes that get unlocked from games like some gamer pics did…

Oh, wait, that’s right. You’re working on launching an Avatar Store so we have to spend real money in the form of Microsoft Points for even more pointless “premium” crap that does nothing else but bend us over and have its way with the wallets of those people foolish enough to buy.

“Premium” themes, gamer pictures, and soon, Avatar “clothes”.
Boy, MS sure loves to try to charge money for everything these days and screw the wallets of their supporters, don’t they?

Been saying it for a year now: If I wanted a Mii, I’d have a Wii.

  • LaraCroftAngel

I really like blue surf (wetsuit) top for boys, is there any chance girls can get it too? :)

  • SnowWolf75

How about disconnecting the pieces of an outfit so they can be worn seperately? I happen to like trenchcoats (only one is available, sadly), but the rest of the outfit is cowboy-related, which is assuredly not me. Even if I want to change my shoes, the coat goes bye-bye. Please disconnect the parts of an outfit and have them available on their own.
