New Halo 3 Maps coming this Fall

Bungie has posted a sneak peak of Heretic, Citadel, and Longshore, three maps you’ll find packed into the Halo 3 multiplayer disc included with Halo 3: ODST when it ships in September.

If the maps come with Halo 3 ODST, are they going to be on the disc or as DLC? Would you be able to play them on Halo 3?

  • SumHydroponic

Halo 3:ODST will have two seperate disc. One has Halo 3:ODST along with Firefight mode and the Halo Reach Beta. The other disc is totally Halo 3 Multiplayer complete with every map available for Halo 3. Got my copy paid in full, can’t wait.

  • Bennyishere

The second disc of Halo ODST is a straight copy of the Halo 3 multiplayer with all the maps. You will have the same stats and gameplay as the online in Halo 3, since they are the same thing.

Welcome back Midship my friend. I have truly missed you.

  • Chitwood7412

Bungie is one good Developer, they keep there fans always in mind with new maps and add-ons. Even though I am not very big in Halo anymore, I think Bungie is the main reason why Halo for the past 8 years has been the most played game.

  • EMFULZ

Since when was ODST coming in October? I thought it was September 22nd.

  • PoW BoW

kl hopefully these maps will be good

  • Quicksilver4648

    Happy Bungie Day!

Since these maps are coming out in October, and the ODST game is being released in September, does that mean that this is going to be another one of those times where everyone who owns halo 3 but doesn’t feel like paying for ODST, will be forced to wait a month to download the new maps?

Last time (with halo wars) i felt like it took forever for the DLC to hit the LIVE marketplace.

I hope they’ve rewritten the code so it installs and plays from the hard disk properly. Plus will they add a separate playlist for the 3 new maps otherwise it may take an eternity to get to play the new ones with the other 21 Halo3 maps.

Shame they don’t bundle a 60gb HD with it, for us that have already paid for the previous maps and only have a 20gb HD. :)

  • AIaskanGrown

wow? why did it post my post 3 times? crazy. mods please remove.

  • Shadow0810

Okay, it must have been a typo, about the date. No dlc. All on a disc. No you can’t install the second disc to the hard drive (or its not recommended), but the ODST disc you can. All the maps come with ODST on Sept. 22 as far as bungie has said. You guys know how often typos happen here.

  • Major Nelson

The game is being released in September w/ the disc.

  • Jonah Falcon

Midship + Swords = frantic fun.

  • r3dreck

Anyone still play it ha… I sold it back 2 weeks after release.

  • ChargingMuffin

    Midship is back! :D

  • XxLightkunxX

Ugh…Midship….nice to see you again. Not.

  • Jonah Falcon

    @XxLightkunxX: TOUGH. I luv Midship.

Major, Can you tell us why there’s no Bungie Day ’09 gamerpics and theme??,
Someone from bungie post this earlier: “We had every intention of releasing a cool Bungie Day theme and pics to Marketplace again this year… but alas we were unable to for reasons outside of our control.”.

    What’s going on?

  • Shiaoran

All Bungie Day and no theme makes Shiaoran a pissed boy.

  • Dakrkplayer2

I think becoues this year is not big to say about it then last year.

  • Dakrkplayer2

And one more thing MN I still beat your gamerscoer. If you want any of your priade back as a gamer. Lit go back some dark ailley in some online multiplayer seassion. And see who is the better gamer.

  • K1LLER HORNET

so will this allow me to free up some space on my HDD?

    – ie. i will just run HALO 3 old + new maps off the disc rather than the HDD?

  • Goodeye84

    @Fletch955

No you will NOT be able to install to hard drive. It was in a recent bungie update. I think thats complete BS and absolute lazyness on their part. They even said that Halo 3 could technically do it now but it would require a software update they were not willing to create. Ok thats fine nothing was keeping them from running it now. Other than all the really wanted to do was port the multiplayer code over for the Multiplayer disk and call it a day. Pure laziness if you ask me.

  • AIaskanGrown

@ Major, the game is being released in September with the disc, but will the maps be downloadable on halo 3 through the xbox live marketplace that same day? or will there be a waiting period for DLC like when the maps came out with the special edition halo wars?

  • Searing Wave

I can’t wait for the maps. Maybe Bungie’s even thinking of more maps after the Mythic Map Pack Part 2. Could only make me happier.

  • Anonymous

No bungie day pics, probabley cos there not an in house studio any more.

  • Tirkon

I notice that the old policy of making reviously released mappacks free, when a new map pack comes out, has been silently discontinued.

  • Thief000

Hi to Major Nelson and all the guys and girls here!

I love the new maps coming to Halo 3 and I will probably buy Halo 3:ODST as soon as it comes out in september.

I have only one gripe with it though.
As a buyer of Halo 3 and all it’s DLC untill now, what am I supposed to do with the second Halo 3 multiplayer disc? All the things I want (Halo 3:ODST, FireFight, Halo:Reach Beta) are on the first disc.
Is there a way for Microsoft to release a single disc edition of Halo 3:ODST (with maybe a token code for these 3 new maps)?
There were 3 releases of the original Halo 3, all with different additional content. I can somehow understand that the 2-disc release makes sense for gamers that want to try out Halo 3 multiplayer without having to buy the original Halo 3. But what about a different option for us gamers that own all this stuff already and don’t know what to do with the second disc?

    Regards,
    Jean

    @Goodeye84

It’s not lazy. What Bungie did was use the Xbox hard drive to cache the information from the game. Ever notice how you don’t have to load the same map twice in a playing time? Installing the game makes it slower because there is a greater amount of info coming from the HD as compared to a smaller amount from the HD and a good chunk from the disc-which makes it faster all around.

  • aStrangeDisease

    My question is:
If we can’t save the multiplayer disc to the hard drive, do we delete all the downloaded maps from the hard drive and just use the disc? It would save some space.

  • The 7raveler

    @aStrangeDisease

Yes, you will be able to delete them. If they are on the disc, there is no need for them to be on the HD.

  • Maniac3000

“Major, Can you tell us why there’s no Bungie Day ’09 gamerpics and theme??,

I’m guessing Microsoft won’t let them release anything for free since they’re no longer owned by Microsoft. Hence why the legendary map pack is still not free.

  • p0yo77

i agree with Thief000 there is people like me who has bought all of the DLC for halo 3, why do we have to pay again for something we already own, i mean there’s no way microsoft could release a halo 3 ODST version without the maps, or with a token to get the 3 new maps, but well that’s just my opinion.

  • FOOLKILLER X2

To those that just want the new maps, I am sure that some intrepid shoppers that only want ODST will sell disc 2 online or trade it to gamestop. I want both, so I will just buy the ODST package.
