    ARRRRRR

    gonna dl now

  • ItsNymo

ah, The time has come to relive some memories…

  • theuglyteradon

Downloaded it before work, can’t wait to come home and play it.

  • technofranki

I’m on vacation, so I’ve added Monkey Island to the download queue. It’s been years since I played the game.

  • Atomicow

    800 points FTW!

This is one game that could have gotten away with a 1200 point price, but at 800 it’s just going to sell itself

  • BrooksterMax

Well done lucasarts/ms for the price point for such an incredible game.

Can’t wait to spend some time with it, after work.

Insta-buy as per some other recent very good releases (thinks back only one week to BF1943)

  • wiirule111

I didnt bother getting the trial of this game.. I bought it right away.. Monkey Island remake at 800 points.. Sold! :-) I bought Outrun Arcade too right away. If its good price and a promising game, i dont even bother with gamedemo. :) I also bought BF 1943 before trying.. But usually i need to try the 1200 point games first.. most of them arent worth more than 800 points.

It makes much more money to sell 10.000 copies of a game at 800 points, than 2000 copies at 1200 points. Easy math. ;-)
Devs should start to learn that quantity makes more money than low sales at high price.

Oh.. The Punisher No Mercy on PS3.. was sold at only 6 euro… the game uses Unreal 3 engine + Physix.. Bought it right away.

I can easily use 2000 points each week on Live if the prices is right. If TMNT is getting lowered to 800 points.. i will get it. At 1200 points. NEVER.

  • erichsouza76

A straight buy, no trial required.
Got it before leaving for work and it indeed is freakin’ PURE AWESEOMENESS.
Hope this one sells good so they might bring more LucasArts classics to XBLA.

  • a peeking duck

So awesome! :D Can’t wait to play more tonight!!! :)

  • GuZ1977

Look behind you, a three-headed monkey!

  • BrooksterMax

I hope this is succesful enough to encourage Lucasarts to bring us Monkey Island 2 and to be honest, pretty much their entire back catalog! There are very few poor adventure games from them!

Time to get the points ready for future releases!

  • Evil Romer

I never played it back in the day but I’m excited now – just got my 360 back from E74 repair, too =)

  • Sneeches

I’ve never played this game but have heard all good things. If its anything like maniac mansion which I loved to no end, then I’ll love this game.

I put it on my downloads this morning before leaving for work. Can’t wait to get home and try it out.

  • Fingleberries

Heck Yeah … 800 points. Straight buy, no need for a trial :-)

  • Mushroom Jones

So, I’m very on the fence about this game. I have NEVER played it but the response of EVERYONE on here is overwhelming that this game is the cat’s pajamas. What other game would be the closest in style to Monkey Island? I d/l the demo but probably won’t get to check it out until Friday.

  • UnHoly One

At the risk of sounding like a moron, should I have heard of this game before???

I’ve been a gamer since Pong and this game doesn’t ring a bell at all.

When was it originally released and for what platform?

  • WinterSnowblind

Took me around four to complete, knowing exactly what I was doing, and still loved it. Seeing it redone with new graphics and voice work was just fantastic. The achievements will make it worth going through another time or two as well.
I could see a lot of newer gamers not really getting it though, but I’d still heavily recommend playing the full thing, shame the trial gives you such a small, boring segment of the game, that seemed like a huge mistake to me. I really hope it does well I’d like to see them do the second game as well, along with a port of the third.

  • BrooksterMax

    @unholy one

It was a 1990 release on the Commodore Amiga and PC by LucasArts (not their first but perhaps considered by some as there more famous release).

Genre – A 2d point and click adventure – e.g. get mug, use mug with barrel of grog.

Its obviously different to modern day games but a classic.

  • UnHoly One

So it is sort of like Maniac Mansion as somebody mentioned earlier??

    I loved Maniac Mansion.

I have honestly never heard of this game though.

  • BrooksterMax

Manic Mansion – ah the memories. Basically they share the same engine in terms of the point and clickyness!

The humour is all there and more in Monkey Island compared to Manic Mansion.

I think you would enjoy it if you played Manic Mansion having done both myself!

    Good luck

  • xdeathcarrotx

I AM SO EXCITED! Favorite rpg of all time besides Day of the Tentacle or King’s Quest 6. Thank you Lucas Arts!

  • metallicorphan

i just finished Grim Fandango on the PC a week ago, great game..i would buy it again for XBLA..but would rather have the other monkey’s first

  • Doh Ray Egon

@xdeathcarrotx: RPG? I don’t think this counts as an RPG.

  • Casserole

One of the first games I really “liked”!

I won’t buy it though, but only because I still remember how it plays, so most of the fun will be taken out!

  • Dark Charger

First day buy for me. Too bad I’m stuck at work right now. I’ll play this right after a bout of 1 vs. 100 tonight.

  • wiirule111

I like the old point and click system better than the 3D ones, and this remake is awesome. :)
I finished it 2 times on Amiga near 20 years ago.. ;)

The music in this game is also classic.

  • Stryker412

    @WinterSnowblind

What part do they give you for the demo?

  • Rick Dias PK

A pleasant surprise. I would have bought this at 800, the ONLY reason I didn’t is I already picked up the PC version. Purely a case of not needing it for both platforms, as otherwise I would have bought this. Everyone that does pick up the 360 version, I hope you enjoy it.

  • MeS FEAR

i have bought it and all i can say is “WOW”. Lucas Arts did a great job. The new graphics are amazing and its even more fun to play it again because of the vocals. Its worth every single point. People who never played it before should get it…nobody will be dissapointed. Its the best Adventure u can get. I really hope that lucas arts will do special versions of the next 2 monkey island episodes…i would buy them all

  • DarkTear81

The overall remake is cool although I don’t really like the look of Guybrush. But they ruined that at MI3+ already so it’s ok.

    Everything else is just awesome.

  • threeleggedcow

I played this back on the Sega CD (not as old as some of you all I guess, lol). Good times.

  • Jonah Falcon

    Grim Fandango, pls.

  • bknight2k

Lets hope Lucas Arts does not stop with this title.

  • LawdaddyCO

Keep good titles coming. I like the sounds of this one but probably won’t be picking it up. I just want more arcade titles. I’m still on the fence about BF1943 because of lag issues…I still just love my COD4 and can’t imagine stepping down to play BF1943.

  • Blue Thunder28

I bought into the hype for this one not really knowing what it is at all…. didn’t end up liking it… :(

  • BrooksterMax

Played it last night, superb remake. I found the HD graphics option a bit difficult to use items and combine things, so I go back to the old 2d graphics for the classic menus! Otherwise great game.

  • noddegamra uk

At 800MS Points this is possibly the best “value for money” game on the Xbox Live Arcade.

  • BrooksterMax

oh Major – this game is about 535 Mb in size – does it fit on a 512 Memory card as per your post!

I’m glad that size limits are much greater now – better games coming through like BF1943, this and others.

  • bigbear1981

This game rules bigtime! I didn’t even need the trial version.
Just download and play. Gubrush is back in the game!
Also Got the Tales Of Monkey Island and thats also great!

  • DL CyberSkull

    I can haz theme preview?

  • MeS FEAR

I have found a message from LucasArts at the end of the Credits…it says “Guybrush will return” so this means that they will work on the other episodes for sure…damn i love the first 3 episodes…especially episode 2! Cant wait to get it!! THANKS LUCASARTS!!

  • Ganon255

This one has been on my “to play list” for some time. I guess I can mark it off now. Great price, thanks!

  • DeathConvoy

This game is an absolute steal at 800 points… one I would happily pay 1200 for.

Lets compare the quality of some good 1200 point games:

    SSF2THDR
    BF1943
    Braid

Even the upcoming TMNT looks like its worth 1200….. but Virtual On? MvC2? Comparing those to other games of that price point isn’t in the same league. I remember the good old days where an emulated arcade game was 400 points – these are just emulated from the Dreamcast with a few minor tweaks, compared to the work gone into the other titles, it hardly seems fair.

  • xfoolsgoldx

Im not paying 1200mp for this,i think i will just stick with madball.

  • Sneeches

@Foolsgold – Its only 800 pts so you dont have to spend 1200 on this.

  • xfoolsgoldx

    Ok,i stand corrected.

  • Zekeban

I´m ..soooooooo…. happy =) After a decade, even though it´s not an all new chapter, the monkey island series returns and is a polished game as always

  • Freaky Priest

This was way the longest download on XBL ever. Took me about 7 hours. Why is XBL so slow in the last few days?

  • Crimson Spider

Speaking of time, what is the average length of hours that the game tends to be complete?

  • MeS FEAR

    @Crimson Spider

if u dont know what to do then it can take more than a day until you complete it but if u know what to do then it will take 6 hours and u are done with the game but because of the special and classic version u can go trough the game 2 times if u want. Its really fun

  • DanMW

Great game and a real bargain at 800 ms points, I’ve only completed 16% so far and played over 2 hours. Really enjoying it (never played it previously)

  • MACPH1ST0

@ Crimson Spider: Yes I’d say you could get through it in about 5-6 hours, depending on how much you explore and how quickly you solve the puzzles. But it can be done in much less than that, considering there’s an achievement for beating it in almost half that time.

  • DesertBear360

What next Freddy Pharkas: Frontier Pharmacist?

What about the Origin collection (Wing Commander Academy, Wing Commander 1 with both expansions, Wing Commander 2 with both expansions, Wing Commander Privateer with its expansion, Wing Commander Armada, and Strike Commander). Wing Commander Armada was multiplayer back in the day so it can be done again now.

  • DamianIsabel

bought it instantly, – everyone need to buy it so Lucasarts gets the message and will redo LeChuck’s Revenge as well as port Curse of Monkey Island, Escape from Monkey Island and mighty Grim Fandango.
    that would be ~ A-M-A-Z-I-N-G ~

  • Exu

After not having time on Wednesday (due do Bruno fyi) I gave this a go and bought it. I never played it the first time around so now I’m rather enjoying it. Only minor gripe is that the achievements are stupid, but I’m just going through my first playthrough naturally anyway.

  • AMT

Would really like a HDD enclosure for my Xbox 360. Hell…Microsoft could upcharge the enclosure for about $100 so we could use our own laptop HDD. That way I would get a SSD for faster loading. Seems like a swell thing to do to me. However, I have been asking for this option of our own HDD for many many moons.

Sure would be nice to put a 200+ Gig SSD in my 360. :|

  • EyeR8

Ah man.. this game is bringing back lots of good memories.. and in a way its getting me even more hyped for Brutal Legend (good ol Tim Schafer).

So many others I would love to see get this treatment.. I think the one I would most like to see done would be FULL THROTTLE.. that game was pure win.

Great to see Monkey Island living on all these years later though. Hope they bring the episodes to XBLA.. I would be all over it in a heartbeat.

  • L0rN

Why is the DLC for Mirrors Edge free on the PS3 and we have to pay 10 Bucks?

  • starz1984

I absolutely love the Monkey Island series. One of my favorite games. The first one played was MI 4. I’m working MI. I want to get Tales of Monkey Island.

  • Anonymous

can’t be bothered playing this again. hated it on the amiga.

  • Anonymous

    @ LawdaddyCO

What lag issues in BF1943 ?

    I get no lag.

  • r00taBEGGAS

I had to get this for 800 points. If it were 1200 there wouldn’t have been a chance!

  • sleepydumbdude

I bought it last night. Quick question how long is the average play time? Seems like its going to be a long game becuase the hour I played it was just a bunch of talking and not much got done it seems.

  • wiirule111

Its possible to finish it in 90 mins if you do a speedrun.. but then the game gets boring and you miss out alot.
It takes 6 hours or so i guess…
    ———————
L0rN: Why is the DLC for Mirrors Edge free on the PS3 and we have to pay 10 Bucks?
I have both 360 and PS3.. But i bought it oon PS3 for 2 reasons. Better suited shoulder buttons for this kind of game, and sharper GFX. And lately.. Free DLC. :)

80% of all multiplatform games is best suited for 360 thou, but there is some exceptions.
I wont even start to tell you how much Unreal Tournament 3 sucks on 360 compared to PS3. That list is long.
But most other games is best on Xbox 360.

  • MACPH1ST0

@ sleepydumbdude: Read the other comments. That’s already been answered.

  • JUNG GUNS

    This game is trash.

  • SiNFuLxBuTcHeR

I plan to download it soon

  • Arent Argento

Played through it in HD SE mode, and now going for a speed run in classic mode. Awesome game, and even better than I remembered it.

  • Kermitron

So looking forward to playing this again. What are the chances they’ll bring The Dig to the Live Arcade? I’ve been tempted to get it off Steam.

  • Mugger X

This was a must buy. Now can I have “The longest Journey”

  • Joergen8

Wow they’ve really done an amazing job with this conversion. This should melt the heart of any console-hating old PC geezer on a big screen, quality setup, comfy sofa… I hope other PC non-fps non-3d classics get the same treatment, but of course it costs hundreds of thousands to do quality work like this so its unlikely.

  • BrooksterMax

it says 32000 on the leaderboards, is that enough sales for Monkey Island 2?

  • Freaky Priest

There are massive download problems in Germany in the XBL market place. I am not the only one who had to wait about a half day for monkey island to finish the download. I couldn’t play 1 vs. 100 because my Xbox took the complete 2 hours to download that 30 MB.

  • Traek

Oh I hope this is a preview of things to come… those old Lucas games were amazing and Monkey Island was one of my favorites (along with Loom). I’d be awesome if we could get some old Sierra Online games like King’s Quest and Quest for Glory action on XBL Arcade as well.

  • zorniki77

I think I finished this at least 3 times on my C64. Just by hearing the revamped MI theme it brings tears of joy to my eyes… ahh the memories!
