Deal By Larry Hryb, Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson

  • Danowat32

Hmmm….tempting, but TBH, it should never have been 1200pts in the first place.

  • Chicken Wyng

This is what it should have been all along, will definitely check this out when I get home from work today.

  • Captain Bluey

I wish it was 400 points, like the Ikaruga deal of the week. Then I would have bought it for sure.

  • Anonymous

I would have pulled the trigger for 600 points, but for 800 points I think I’ll pass this time. Glad to see a arcade game this week though.

  • erichsouza76

Agree with the others. Price tag for this one was too high.
Same price as Ikaruga were for the deal of the week should be great BTW.

  • Chitwood7412

Tried this when it first came out and didn’t think it was worth 1200, 800 maybe. I want Castle Crashers to go on deal, that would be a sure buy at 33% off.

  • JaggedCrane

800 points for a year old port of a 20 year old game? What a bargin!

  • LausDomini

Nice deal. I wanted the game but wasn’t going to pay 1200 for it. 800 is the right number. Sold!

  • ItsNymo

2 arcade classics with redone 3D graphics switchable on-the-fly with classic 2D graphics along with other features for 800 MS? Even the 77 people who rated it with the new ratings system doesn’t think it’s bad…

Very, very tempting, but again, it shouldn’t have been 1200 in the first place (same can be said with tozai’s other xbla title, lode runner)…
Just might pick it up this week…

  • Snake eyes 211

it should never have been 1200pts in the first place.

  • rogXue

    ditto the above
this deal should be 400 seeing as this was way overpriced, but hey goes with the common trend on the arcade. The crap is overpriced while the good stuff is way overpriced. aka PASS

  • SumHydroponic

    Think I’ll pass this week.

  • Col Hartman

I would have pulled the trigger for 400 points, but for 800 points I think I’ll pass this time. Glad to see a arcade game this week though.
This game should have been 800 pts from the start. Terrible pricing on these games, and only b/c they are over 250 MB in size. To me the large size of arcade gamees is getting to be a NEGATIVE off b/c my 20 GB HDD has less than 1GB of room left after IL-2 and Madden demos.

please no more DLC, only aracde deals of the week!

  • Freaky Priest

The normal price should be 800 and deal of the weak price 600. Bought this one though because I loved R-Type in the old days.

  • X Ray Hamburger

Ouch had to buy this the first day it came out due to me loving it too much, wish it was this cheap when I bought it.

  • Malrinth

Probably will be better to save a 100% by not buying it.

  • z0rk

I’m with you XRH – I had to have it, but it sure did sting at 1200. Oh well – Love the games anyway.

  • KatanaW0lf

I’ve just tried to add this to my download queue, as i’m away on hols, and the price has come up at 1200 MS points, instead of 800 MS Points, also when does this offer end as i won’t be home until Saturday 8th Aug GMT. Thanks. KatanaW0lf.

  • oO MG81 Oo

Not really a deal. It should have been 800MSP to start with. And what’s the point of reducing prices on old DLC for only a limited period of time???. If it’s an old title with falling sales then surely a permanent reduction is better for business?. I think the Marketplace marketing staff live in some alternate reality fantasy world. Reduce an old game like this to 400MSP and just about everyone will buy it. Look at how well Ikaruga did at 400MSP a couple of weeks back.

  • DanMW

KatanaW0lf you should be ok, the offer should end around mid-day on Monday 10th August.

  • BrooksterMax

Tempting, loved the original but this should have been the launch price.

Why not add more games to the “Arcade hits” list of 400 MSP arcade games, its a bit stale at the moment!

  • krisxx

good deal, should have been 1600 pts, 1200 was NOT enuff for this great game.

  • Firecrest

“And what’s the point of reducing prices on old DLC for only a limited period of time???. If it’s an old title with falling sales then surely a permanent reduction is better for business?”

I’ve been stressing this for the longest time. A majority of DLC found on XBL is a waste of server space and permanent markdowns would benefit all parties. For example, most of these 2+ year old games now retail for less than $20, so you’re going to tell me that people are likely to pay a minimum of 1/4-1/2 the cost of what they payed for the entire game for one item/level? The same logic can be applied to some of these XBLA games, where you can find them in retail compilations and such. It just doesn’t make sense to me.

I’m considering getting this at 800pts because not only is it an opportunity to show MS that we’re more willing to buy games when they’re sensibly priced, but because I’m a huge shump fan as well. :P

  • RetroBob

Agreed, 1200 is too much. Might get this.

  • Surly x Duff

Original price was too high, I would have purchased day one at 800 pts. I’m tempted now, but there’s a ton of quality titles coming out that I’m playing at the moment, I’m tapped. I may buy it and wait until the other “must buys” of the summer have slowed before I give it a play, just to take advantage of the lower price.

  • TheExMascot

Major, has the arcade hits program been discontinued? There hasn’t been more titles added to the arcade hits in a long time. Are the deals of the week the replacement? I’ve been waiting for Prince of Persia classic to get added to the arcade hits or deal of the week for a while now!

  • KMetalmind

Wow, I can´t believe there´s so many shmup haters. Come on, I can agree 1200 points was an high price (although you get two games with both remade graphics and classic ones), but for 800 points you should get it IMO. If you don´t like this kind of games, then don´t complaint.

Developers should have put first R-Type for 800 points and then R-Type II for another 800 points. Most people wouldn´t have noticed the move and wouldn´t say “it´s overpriced”. Same goes with Sam & Max, even at 400 points per chapter, they would have made 2400 points, and nobody would have started saying that 1600 points was an high price.

It´s a pitty I already have this, I would have bought it again, being the only really good horizontal shmup on XBLA. I wish Gradius was here too.

  • Red Dragon

What happened to Arcade Hits? I want to see more older arcade titles permanently reduced.

  • Yukon Cornelius

Or just download Aegis Wing for the already-discounted price of “free”. Waiting for the budget-priced Perfect Dark Zero DLC to come next week, just to insult us even more.

  • yamayamayaamaa

This is TWO remade games in one, which is basically 400 points per game. I don’t see how or why anyone is complaining but whatever. I agree with the person who said this should have been 800 from the get go. I’m glad I waited.

These deal of the week XBLA games should permanently be Arcade Hits!

  • Exu

This should have been 800 in the first place, as should Lode Runner, and so this deal should be 400.
When I saw this was on offer I was tempted to get it, especially considering I like shumps, so I gave it another trial but it just isn’t very good! Tozai’s a crap developer.

  • ToraDX

Great, I’ll be looking forward to the day that silver accounts can buy it at a non-exorbitant price as well then, or until us poor expatriates can use a U.S. credit card to manage our foreign XBL accounts instead of having to go out of our way to purchase point cards at retail.

  • guile3mrd

i would get it for sure for 400-600 points, 800 is too much for this one.

  • FunkyCD

Damm…I bought this but sorely disappointed. I finished the game and can safely say its not worth anything more than 400ms points. I regret buying this and should have saved it for TMNT ReShelled as that got dropped to 800ms Points for those who didn’t know.

  • MACPH1ST0

Yeah I saw that too FunkyCD. Good to see they did the same price drop for TMNT this week… before it’s even been released! lol

  • mnemo

Strange. On the German marketplace it says “Gold members save 50%” on the R-Type tile in the Games Marketplace. It still costs 800 MSP, though. :(

  • wiirule111

I would buy it at max 600 points.. There is better 800 point games out there. This game should’nt have costed 1200 points in the first place.

  • VEGEMITE 98

You americans are so funny, I reckon if this game was free you would still complain. All the complaining in the world is not going to make Microsoft lower there prices so stop it!, if you think 1200mp was expensive wait for the games on demand (I can hear your whining little voices already! ) as for R-type if you are going to buy it then buy it, if not then shut up!
