Xbox 360 System Update now available

Moments ago, the team released a system update (aka Dash update) to all Xbox Live members. Over the next few hours – or the next time you sign into Xbox LIVE after that – you’ll receive a prompt to accept this mandatory update.  If you participated in our Preview Program, you already have the update and will not be prompted.  Hit Xbox.com for a list of what the update includes.  A couple of things to point out:

  • While you can browse and purchase Avatar items and full Xbox 360 games in the console with this update, the ability to add these items your Xbox 360 download queue from Xbox.com will be available this Thursday.
  • Xbox LIVE integration with Twitter, Facebook and Last.FM will be available later this year.
  • Zune Video Marketplace will also ship later this fall when it will replace the current Video Marketplace.

This update will be rolled out to all Xbox LIVE members around the world over the space of a few hours, so you may not get prompted for the update immediately. Thanks for your patience and have fun.

  • XxGiZzmOxX

    Cool thx Major!

  • Shadowed Ghost

Totally loving the new Netflix features

  • NOCTORNUS

I do like the speed in which NXE now runs as Vers 1 was slooooow oh and finally………. EJECT !!

THANKS FOR ALL THE HARD WORK GUYS Xbox Live still
THE ONLY ONLINE platform for any true gamer…

  • HsitH

WOOT, now my friends can see my shirt in their friend list.

    Thanks Major.

    Leet sauce.

  • thefalcon2k

If you don’t have it, yet … another way to force it is to do a Xbox LIVE Connection Test! It always works!

  • Rockwell7

already had the update as i way in the preview shame you still cant fast forward music been waiting since day one. but the nxe v2 is so much better

  • NBA Kirkland

My A button has gone missing on the new achievement page in the dashboard that shows you all your completed games. Because of this I can only see the first 12 of 19 games I’ve completed. See photo below.

    http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss66/NBAKirkland/ATT00001.jpg

How do I get the A button to show up so I can see the rest of the games? There must be an option somewhere I am missing (or is this a bug?) Please tell me so I can bask in all my completed games goodness.

Surely the Xbox Live team wouldn’t have overlooked such an obvious feature? So where do I find the option to turn on the A button? It IS just me, right?

    Thanks!

  • Euphoric Fusion

@ Rockwell7 – I have wanted FFwd for music too and a ton of other things that arent in the update. In fact there is very little I do use in the update at all. Games on Demand and the Avatar marketplace are a rip off and all the other features are pointless to me. Eject the disc from the dashboard?!?!? I been doing that since launch due to the fact that my launch console came with a mini media remote. All in all the only thing I can be thankful for in this update is the guide not freezing on every game.

  • psymatiq

    doesnt exist kirkland.

  • bronconation024

welcome all to the new update enjoy

  • x8Sharrock3x

    Hell yeah

  • NeoXDonut

Can’t wait for the integration with Twitter, Facebook and Last.FM later this year.

  • A Place for Us

They fixed the pass code issues.

  • LORANT92

Fail on Demand is awesome, I can’t wait to pay double price for new games.

  • NeoXDonut

So it has recently come to my attention that all the cute little armor perms for your avatar are for guys only.

  • Vice Destroyer

To all the people that are wanting improvements in the music player, you are not the only one. I want them too. Less psychedelic visualizers is the most important thing. There is an app in the indie channel called Iris, which is only 200MS points and is a better alternative than the official media player. Give it a try. I have it and love it.
Unfortunately no media remote control support, but it is only 200MS points AND it has better visualizers.

  • psymatiq

Get the damn rock band DLC up allready… nothing on Danish marketplace and its been over an hour since it should be up <.< .

  • Complex Theory

    Good stuff Major.

  • Enkeixpress

Wow, Didn’t even have to update & the preview channel has just disappeared like Magic!

    1337!

  • Just2Lazzzy

Updateing now. I did the “Test Xbox Live Connection” Trick. Thanks, to the xbox live avatar team.:)

  • Gam3r Evolved

What does that mean..? That Zune Marketplace will replace Video marketlpace..? Does it make any difference if I do not own a Zune player..?

  • Thomas Egebaek

Come on! The Games on demand pricing is so unfair!

here in DENMARK every game is priced at 299 danish kroner (= 58 american dollars!!!) however we can buy them for 2400 MS Points (which is about 225 danish kroner = 42 american dollars)

For some of the games i can live with the pricing, but for a game like prey to cost 60 bucks is just insane! i got a brand new copy last week from a store for 50 danish kroner = 9 bucks!!!

    DO SOMETHING!

  • Exocet Nick

So now the update is being rolled out w/wide, how does that impact the awardable you can obtain from playing ‘Splosion Man? Would it be retrospectively awarded to gamers that have already completed the game (Not that I have, I seem to be having difficulties in many areas, need to play more!)?

  • enemy2k

I was in the preview program so have already been using it for a week or two. I just wanted to say thanks for continuing to add things we have asked for! Can’t wait for the next update in the fall, I wish it was coming sooner though. The biggest improvement with the new update for me was the increase on the speed of browsing the marketplace and choosing downloads. Screens pop up instantly where before it’d take 30 seconds just to show what the featured downloads were.

  • Krammeh

The update is out, and yet I have not ‘unlocked’ any avatar items within splosion man, even though I have completed the game.

Are we waiting a patch/updaet from Twisted Pixel, or waiting on MS?

  • Anonymous

While you can browse Xbox 360 games in the console with this update, – And get ripped off all around the world !!!

  • R2K SpitFire

I agree that the pricing is a little much even in the us, $30 for oblivion and $30 for bioshock, my local 24 hr handy-dandy walmart has it as a combo for $40, and it’s like 2 minutes down the road. No waiting on d/l and saving $20, no thank you microsoft. :(

  • FOXHOUND MGS4

OK… Ive just had the update…. xbox reset itself then i get a message saying unable to connect to install update….. switched off, switched back on… got another update and this time its taking me 12 minutes to download? Has anybody else had this happen to them?

  • L0rN

Finally europe is getting more than america. ripped off.

  • Rolodzeo

29,99€ for a game that I can buy on any store for 15€ (or even cheaper)? Yeah, absolutely, give me half a dozen.
    What’s wrong with you Microsoft?

  • Jamsponge97

Hopefully they havent activated the WLID (windows live id) problem yet in account management. As my other account is not coming up to enter a new windows live id to link to my account. How very annoying…..other than that i was on the Beta and the speed increase is much better, no more annoying long pauses whilst scrolling thru friends and marketplace. Though still getting the crashes in Halo 3 *sigh*. Thank MS though, nicely done. ;)

  • Khufu23

To the guys asking about the Splosion Man unlockable — on the xbox website it says there will be an update for the game released. To get the unlockable (a Splosion Man shirt) you have to break some glass.. easy to do! So it doesn’t matter whether you’ve completed it or not, when the game update arrives, play it, break some glass, unlock shirt :)

Major, do you know what games will have these unlockable things for the avatar – will it be mainly new arcade releases from now? or will older arcade and ‘full price’ titles receive updates?
    Thanks =)

  • StammyFi

Boycot Games on Demand! Those prices are ridiculous.

    (otherwise good update)

  • exception360

On the US Avatar Marketplace you have new items for your avatar from Adidas, Quicksilver, Gears of War 2, Bioshock 2, Star Wars The Clone Wars and other stuff…

But not in Europe (Netherlands)? I thought they would come to Europe on the same day as the ‘final’ update?

  • ry8an25oliver93

Hey Major, are they ever adding back the Halo Hoodie to the guys Avatar Marketplace. I want to buy it now because I have Microsoft Points.

  • Nitemare1

You’re not going to sell many of those games on demand when you can walk into any wal-mart or gamestop and get them for half or even a quarter of the price. That’s pretty disappointing.

  • Tango Wild

WTH Major? I thought you said they were making things faster? Yea, the marketplace is speedy, but messaging and seeing what friends are online is even slower! I LOVE my xbox and have over $10k invested in the brand’s lifetime, and yet with each update the machine becomes less desirable from a GAMER’s standpoint. Its frustrating.

Please tell someone over there at MS to let their consumer’s feel like you want us to have the best experience, not the one that is easiest to get our cash into your pocketbooks. :o (

  • Tango Wild

The new Netflix update is awesome though, so kick ass there!

  • WinterSnowblind

I love the avatar marketplace. Things like the Big Daddy and Star Wars Clone Trooper armour is awesome.. But I really think you guys need to take a step back and reavulate the prices. As awesome as some of the stuff is, who’s going to pay 560 points to dress up as a clone and 720 as Obi-Wan? Considering you could almost buy things like Splosion man at that price.. it’s ridiculous.

  • WinterSnowblind

    @Khufu23
Actually there’s two items for Splosion Man, one is for breaking glass the other is for finishing the game. Niether are particularly exciting, but it’s nice to see at least *something* offering awards.

  • Captain Bluey

    400 points for a lightsaber – ouch!

  • VK Kanaye

Sounds sweet. Thanks for the heads up, Major!

  • LordWill0722

at work now – excited to get home and see the bioshock stuff – was in the preview but glad more items hitting the avatar marketplace, shame a lot of ppl bought basic stuff before loads more came today

  • BillyMagnumFOD

i just want the FREE avatar awards….WHEN???

  • aquatoad

Hey, is there info on the unlockable props or items collected anywhere?

  • PWXBOX360

Working great here HD loading times are slightly faster on newly installed games. Also love the HD space savings some as much as 53% although the average seems to be around 400-500MB I saved 3.6GB on TR Anniversary & 1.6GB on Dark Sector. Good work guys.

  • Lazarus 22nd

I’m curious why the US GoD service has games for $20 and then it’s £20($30) in the UK (also more than it costs in the shops here), the idea of the MS point system I thought was that everything cost the same on the marketplace and the difference was made up in selling the points.

PDZ is £20 on the service, it’s 4 years old it should be 1600msp here, there is only about 2 games that should be 2400msp, a brand new game should only be 4500msp if you were ever going to release them.

How about for once you give a fair deal for all and price them all equally?

I’d just like to say I have no problem with Avatar gear pricing, stops you from having 10 millions Gears swinging lightsabers ;)

  • Type 0 x IV

@WinterSnowblind: My buddy actually. He dropped the points for the Obi-wan outfit and Lightsaber the second I found them and said “Hey look, Star Wars stuff!”. I don’t think I even finished my sentence before his avatar went Jedi!

  • LittleBlueAlien

101 new ways to get ripped off – FAN-TASTIC!!

  • exception360

About the Avatar Marketplace items: I can get them now ;)
Can’t wait for the next update/features later this year!

  • The PerfectCr

Major, do you have any contact with the people that price the games for Games on Demand? Let’s be honest Majorm, the prices are ridiculous. Here’s one example: A Bioshock/Oblivion Retail pack, BRAND NEW is US$40.

Games on Demand? $60 for the same (and you can’t resell it, AND, it’s not even the GOTY edition of Oblivion!)

Call of Duty 2 for $US30? Amazon recently had a sale for $12 BRAND NEW (with box, manual and disk). Considering with Games on Demand you cannot resell it and do not receive anything tangible, shouldn’t the price be significantly less, not MORE?

Who is making the pricing decision on these games, and have they been to Gamestop lately?

  • DavidGX

Major, seriously, the prices for the games on demand are really stupid. We can go get the game, disc, case and manual for less in a store (new copies) than here. And you guys make more on these vs in store sales so..

You’re saying we should get less and pay more while you earn more?

Come on now, if you’re gonna bend us over like that at least have the decency to use a little lube.

  • ImaginedBug

I’ve been entering and exiting the avatar editing thing a few times, and every time there was something new. I’m a sucker for BioShock, so I got the doll (it’s cute, leave me alone! :P ) but everything’s way too expensive (including the BD doll). €0,95 for a watch or wristband nobody can see? €4,76 for a lightsaber? And is it me, or are the NVG on the Splinter Cell outfit lopsided?

  • programad

    Avatar Awards? Where? How? When?

  • Lites

OMG OMG OMG OMG I’m a jedi!!

  • Kandrick

All the games are 2800 MSP here in Switzerland…. Even Kameo is 2800. They are expensive, and all priced the same. Its ridiculous.

    What is Microsoft thinking ?

  • Slider2nl

400 Point fo a crappy lightsaber and some stupid moves that arn’t funny.
RIP-OFF There are funnier props less expensive.

For the rest. Thanks for the preview program liked it very much.
And nice update, but please keep the prices low or we all end up like me, crying about a prop of 400 points or more.

  • Real Xebec

These system updates are all about generating additional revenue for Microsoft, nothing else. They pass it off as giving new features to the users. The term “giving” is used lightly. They want you to PAY for VIRTUAL items for your avatar? Are you kidding me? Microsoft and their DLC raping has gone way past being ridiculous. Games on demand? Are you serious? Paying high prices for a download of a game that you can purchase at the store for less. Some day people will start to realize how much Microsoft has taken advantage of their customers.

  • Quaranj

I am disheartened that the games on demand are cash-only. For someone who purchases all their content with moonbuck points cards, you’ve eliminated part of your market. Not that 2800 points would be a screaming deal on Lego Star Wars TCS or anything, but it would be nice to do. So is this the way of things to come? Points being fazed out for cash sales? If so, my days as a live-content purchaser are numbered. A credit card will never be added to my account. I’ve held off adding one for that damn Battlefront 2 content that should have an equivalent moonbuck value, and this is only making me more upset. Please tell us that there is some good news in among these updates major.

  • Sneeches

ive been in the dashboard update since the first wave, and well for us here in canada the only new thing is the avatar marketplace.

But hey were moving in the right direction….are we???

  • Lynch182

i like how everyone notices how the games on demand won’t work, especially at the price microsoft are listing, worst thing is those games are classics and only cost £17.99 brand new in store, and if you think about it, you get a disc which you can then sell on, so its about £10 over-priced, not going to work.
i’m waiting for my splosion man update, want my free avatar unlocks :D :D

  • Muzzymate

@Quaranj – on my console, you can press the Y (or B button) to toggel between MS Points and a credit card for onDemand titles. It’s not very obvious, though. Look at the list of button functions in the bottom left corner. One says something like “Use Microsoft Points”

  • wolfzero01

man the games on demand prices are a joke. there is no way I would pay those prices when I can find the games cheaper elsewhere; & I have a physical copy instead of wasting hd space & not having to deal with the BS DRM policy that MS has

  • Lites

I look at the prices for GoD and then exited the screen. Not worth my time on the other hand I admit to being a sucker on the avatar marketplace.

  • Dusty Arne

    Yay!

  • Quaranj

@Muzzymate Thanks! I totally didn’t see that there. Nice catch – it wasn’t an obvious toggle. Now if they’d do that to their old first gen xbox DLC, I’d be a completely happy camper.

  • Mushroom Jones

Too flippin much for Games on Demand. $10.00 mark up for for Lego Star Wars? PASS!
I dig the Lightsaber for my avatar, however, all my MS points go to Rock Band DLC.

  • Twister65

Love the update, but seriously, the prices for the on-demand games is insane. Who in their right mind would pay that much for OLD games? And the price of avatar props is robbery. IMHO, no item should be more than 160 points and even that’s pushing it.

  • DarkTear81

Woah, the Games on Demand prices are way too high.
Guys, buy those things somewhere else but NOT on XBL!

    - Assassins Creed 27€, 30€ on XBL
    - Oblivion 33€ for the GOTY-Edition with all Addons (Just Oblivion for 30€ on XBL)
    - NfS: Most Wanted for 23€ and not 30€ like on XBL

PLUS you get a nice packaging and such not just a Digital Download.

  • oue

400ms points = $5.00 OK who is going to buy anything that cost $5.00 for your avatar to wear? WHY? DID you pay for these points? You are going to spend $5.00 on an avatar? There is no way. You got the points free or sole them.

  • banksrob

Major do you know when sky is going to be integrated into the xbox service in the UK considering it is the start of the premiership season in less then a week…

  • Just2Lazzzy

Okay.. I’ve now browsed through some stuff. Avatar clothes, are pretty decent. Not enough of selections. -but as exspected, 1st day is 1st day. Main part of the update was for the avatars clothing. For those who haven’t noticed the number next to your “gamertag name” it indicates. How long you’ve been on gold. Turning back to silver, will clear the number beside your “GT NAME” They should of put numbers to indicate “How long” you’ve been on Xbox Live. Not “How long you’ve been on Gold” -but from “xbox.com” they have given a nick name. Called “Gold Veterans” assuming they are the ones with numbers beside “GT NAME”

    6/10 from me.

  • BMF Irish ace

this is not much off a update just small little silly things and the price of games in games on demand and still no indie games well the way i see this it was just a small up date for usa for netflix its always best to just say what it is

  • Major Nelson

The marketplace team is reading the comments….so you can be sure that your thoughts are getting to the right people. I will be passing them along as well to others.

  • III Bish0p III

OMG There is a Lightsaber in the Avatar Marketplace!!

  • andre kanon

any chance that purchased items (like dlc for games) can be used by other profiles on my xbox. i have a family of 5 and i would prefer not to have to buy a tshirt 3x. i don’t have to purchase maps for games 3x so i am confused as to why i have to purchase the same shirt 3x

  • III Bish0p III

    Just2Lazzzy

I dont think that is correct. The Number next to my gamertag says 4 and i was Silver for about a good month a couple of weeks ago. I’m pretty sure that number is linked to your Gamertag and not how long you have been a Gold Member cause that would be really weak. Also some of the content in the Avatar Marketplace is just Ridiculous. 320 MS points for a Remote control car for your Avatar to play with…. Really? 80 more points and you could have an Arcade game you can actually play. Shirts for 80 points? I think that is way too much. Has Microsoft not made enough money from us yet? Shirts should be 10 – 20 points TOPS!

  • ZaZeeMan

I’m with you, andre. I have 3 other Silver accounts (wife and 2 boys) on my system and there is absolutely no point for me to purchase and avatar content unless I can share it with others on my console. Ridiculous.

Also, as it has been stated before, the Games on Demand pricing is ridiculous. Especially for something you can’t sell or trade-in later. There are few benefits to this update (outside the US, especially) besides making more money for Microsoft and Friends.

    Sorry, Major. Not your fault.

  • L0ng5h0t

When will they offer a Zune Music Marketplace for XBL? The only other way to get my digital music on my Xbox is to burn it to cd then rip it again on the console.

  • FieldersChoice

Up here in Canada we got a bastardized version yet again. As you probably know we don’t have the NetFlix option so we dont get the cool share a flick option.

I’m assuming its part of their deal with Rogers for all their sponsorship dollars(Or should I say forced advertising on the dashboard) . The UK has Sky or will have it shortly. The video on demand service up here is frankly a serious joke. I don’t know anyone up here that has made many purchases from it.

The Avatar Marketplace looks the same as the US version. If the light saber made the cool light saber sound I’d think about blowing 400 MS Points on it. But then again its not like my avatar can use these props anywhere. How many people spend longer than a few seconds looking at the avatars of their friends? Oh cool Johnny has a wife beater shirt on with an eye patch. Not like we interact with the avatars much if at all.

If the party dropping issue is resolved, i’ll be happy . Also does this update fix the over a minute of blank screens i get when exiting a live arcade game and returning to the dash? or how about does it fix the hang i get when accessing the friends list mid game?

  • Ashenkhar

If I do a Netflix party watch, does everyone have to have Netflix and a gold account, or just the person starting the party?

  • Lites

@Major Nelson – Good to hear. did the market place people think we were not going to notice or were they hating the world the day they did the pricing? Anyway, when will the ODST armor be available?

  • Lites

@ashenkar, every person in the party needs both a netflix account and a goldmembership. There is a way around that netflix membership. If the netflix account holder is nice enough he can add up to 6 consoles in total on his/her account. The account holder does will pay NO extra money and everyone under his/her account can watch netflix as a party or seperately at the same time.

  • Mike Nutts

    Hello,
My windows live id has expired.
This update should have fixed my problem, but I was not promoted to change
or to update my account/windows live details.
    What should I do ?
    Thank you!

  • KEV2O9

Having pretty much no lag on the dash is fantastic… as is the reduced size of installing games to the hard drive (my 60gb drive can now fit another game on thanks to the space saved)… but WTF is going on with the GOD and avatar prices? lol

Seriously you need to re-think these crazy prices during this global recession! I’ll stick with the bargain basement sections of Gamestation and Game for my budget 360 games fix for now…

  • Spartan3179

Overall a cool update. I was jut wondering how do I rate all the games Ive played if I no longer own a game? It only allows me to rate from my playlist games either currently on HHD or disk drive. You should be able to rate from your achievement list and have it show you your rating and the overall rating. You can go through the games marketplace but some things arnt listed anymore and its just clumsy and tedious. Good work :)

  • KODKiLLeRv2

So what games have avatar awards?

  • PiNkEyE69

    @Just2Lazzzy
“How long you’ve been on gold. Turning back to silver, will clear the number beside your “GT NAME” They should of put numbers to indicate “How long” you’ve been on Xbox Live.”
It was calculating like this but due to feedback they posted on the preview program forums that it will now calculate the number of years you have been on live, minus any time on silver (any time on the old xbox live accounts are counted as gold and the clock starts from the say you created your gt even if you were in the live betas back in 02).
So if you were gold for 12 months, then silver for 6 months, then gold for 12 months, then silver for a month then gold for 6 months your number would be 2 (with 6 months more gold to get a 3)

  • Anonymous

Hey Major, do people who had the preview have to update? I didn’t get a prompt but everything seems to work fine…

  • theuglyteradon

I was really hoping that not being able to share clothes and items from the avatar store for other profiles on your system was just limited to the preview program! There is no way that I’m going to buy extra outfits or buy something twice just for other people in my house. There shouldn’t be a reason why this is happening, if the item is anchored to the console ID and the gamer profile then why isn’t this the same as sharing gamer pictures?

Also, I was really excited when I had thought the lightsaber only cost 80 points… but it costs as much as an arcade game! I’ll continue to say that the cheaper items are the more of them I will buy. I don’t like the idea of being limited to my points squandering because I don’t want to use a twenty-dollar points card for a couple items! Rare has created a digital item that should have a digital price… I can’t help but feel that prices are being gouged for the sole reason to take advantage of fanboys. Also, there doesn’t seem to be a pricing scheme at all besides “is this cool?” followed by “exploit the cool factor with a high price!”.

We are in a recession still, guys… why don’t you go ahead and start a fad for being the first company to price digital (and rather USELESS) items for a fair price. It’s gotten to the point where certain things are priced as if ONE DOWNLOAD will be the only time anybody makes any money on it.

I’ve only bought the 40 point eyepatch so far, and it’s likely that the only thing I’ll splurge on is a dollar for a shirt.

  • Straawberry

It’s nice that Guide isn’t so laggy anymore (could be a bit quicker). But when it comes to GoD prices, take off those $-sign glasses. I can get most of those games for $5-$10 as new and then sell them again, but 30€ for Perfect Dark Zero?!? Also heard that the prices vary from area to area, what’s up with that? Make it a lot cheaper and the same price for everyone so someone would actually by one. And the avatar-marketplace, do I really need to get started?

  • Lord Of Blah

Finally my friends will be able to see my awesome avatar items. :)

  • Hegartyhead

I woke up this morning and installed the update and then checked out the features……………………£19.99 FOR ON DEMAND GAMES IN THE UK!!!!!!!!!!! MICROSOFT ARE YOU SERIOUS? AND 160 POINTS FOR A PAIR OF BOOTS???????????? I honestly can’t believe the prices that you are charging, considering we already pay £39.99 for the privilege of the Xbox Live, and the average price of arcade games is now also more expensive at 1200 points. Is there no end to the corporate greed of the borg? And don’t come the “microsoft don’t set prices in this region or that, and this publisher or that publisher” bs, take some responsibility and show the way forward when it comes to dlc!!!!! Charge a FAIR price, not a RIP OFF price, hello MS are you listening??

  • misfit13b

These Games On Demand prices are ridiculous. I was looking forward to getting a digital copy of MX vs ATV Untamed and then giving my disc copy to my brother so that we could play it online.

    Unfortunately…

While Amazon has it for $20
    http://www.amazon.com/Mx-Vs-ATV-Untamed-Xbox-360/dp/B000TP2V3A/

    On Demand? $30.

Where does this $10 price premium come from? Ridiculous.

  • Fileman44

I really wish the xbox would add a web browser. Both Wii and PS3 have it.

  • exception360

I’ve got an French menuitem in my Games on Demand section (Téléchargements les plus fréquents) while my dashboard language is set to English (QUERTY Keyboard)…

  • bUbbALoUmCc

There needs to be combos of avatar outfits at a reduced price made available. I dont understand why you cannot get a helmet and armor combo together. As it stands now its 320 for armor and 160 for a helmet, it should be made a combo for 400. That would be a little savings and it will be better for the consumer. It would have to still be seperate items incase you want to mix and match with other items. PLUS: I want to let my dad use a item I bought on the marketplace but it wont let me. WHY? I bought it and I want my dads avatar to be able to wear it. This needs to be fixed. Thanks Major for passing this along. Have a good day.

What about the E3 Trophy? When is the codes for that suppose to be sent out?

  • CDN Crockett

I’m worried that I’m going to miss out on the 6 year vet. gifts when it’s showing that I’m a 4 year vet.

  • moocow21

I’m simply flabbergasted that you actually have to pay for stuff for your avatar, sometimes up to $5 for one item! I certainly won’t be spending a dime on my avatar.
    -
Also, is there no way to buy Xbox 360 titles with Microsoft Points? I’m all for abandoning the ridiculous MS point system in favor for REAL currency, but right now I have 2400 MS points to spend and I’d consider buying a 360 title if there is a way.

  • Lites

how many years do you have to on live to get the free Vet gifts? I been on live for 5 years but its showing 4yrs because I changed my GT name 1 yr after I got live. It used to be “Litez” changed it to “Lites”

@major melson ~ Are they going to update years on live number so it can reflect GT name changes?

  • ry8an25oliver93

@moocow21 While viewing a Game on Demand that you would like to buy press Y for MP value.

  • moocow21

    @Ry8an25oliver93
Thank you; I’ll go check it out again.

    :(
i just got RROD just after the update restart !

its 2 red light ,, anyone know why ?
i want to buy trials HD damn it

  • Archangel3371

Yeah I love the new update but I definitely agree with the other people in that the Games on Demand are priced way too high especially for digitally distributed games which I thought were supposed to lower prices. Too bad we’ll have to wait a little bit longer for Facebook, Twitter, and Last.FM I was looking forward to checking them out. I’m also really looking forward to unlocking some avatar gear from games.

  • Mike Nutts

Please, someone knows how to fix the problem with the dormant windows live id’s ?
I still can not change my windows live account details.

    Thank you in advance!

  • jchapman

    Issues/Problems/Observations:
My launch console finally RRoD while running the preview. While it’s almost certainly a coincidence, it’s worth noting in case any changes were made to the temperature management.

The inability to use purchased Avatar clothing on other accounts that use the same XBox seems “wrong.” All other purchased content allows use by any account using the original console, why is this different? In my household, only one account (my own) purchases points and content, and that is then available to other accounts. This policy change means that the other accounts will not be able to use anything from the avatar marketplace.

The Netflix features are a significant improvement; the only features I would like added in a future version is the ability to search for movies and manage my queue of DVD rentals.

It would be very helpful to specify the rules that surround the “veteran” number. What actions would cause the number to be reset (e.g. changing the tag name, dropping from gold to silver, etc.)? While my own number seems correct, a friend thought his number is wrong. Is there any facility for him to correct it?

There are still a number of functions that are only available via the Guide “blade” interface (e.g. Login status and active downloads). I would like to see a future NXE dashboard that included a complete feature set, with the Guide representing a much smaller subset only useful during gameplay. The current system of some duplicated features and some features unique to each interface is confusing.

As has been said by others, I would like to be able to configure system defaults. I’d like the “My XBox” to be the default row after logging in, I’d like “offline” to be my default status when logging in, etc.

The GoD prices are the same or more expensive than buying the games new at retail, they should be $5-$10 less than retail. I understand that the cost of downloading the large data files (perhaps multiple times) needs to be covered in addition to compensating the publishers and MS taking a cut, but the games do not include printed manuals, extras or resale value.

If you really want to wow me, allow me to purchase (for $5-$10) the ability to play my own games without the disk in the drive at all. You’ll need to work out a way to stop it from working with rentals, but switching between Fallout and Halo 3 as easily as switching between Zuma and Monkey Island (in addition to not lugging around a case of disks) would be worth something.

I’d like to see some changes regarding the achievement summary pages. The “completed” list should be scrollable, and there should be some mechanism to manage how games with achievements added through DLC are displayed (preferably just a toggle when viewing a specific game’s achievements between counting the original achievements and the full list).

I recognize that you want to keep your game reviews honest by requiring the game disk, but game rental and resale is part of the industry. I’d prefer that you allow rating any game in which you have at least one achievement (or that appears in your achievement list).

While avatar gear and video content include previews, not all marketplace does. It would be nice if themes and gamerpics included a preview feature as well (and game videos and add-ons and all other content if possible). It would mean more work for the developers and more bandwidth cost, but it would benefit the buying experience.

I’d like playback controls on the video content like “Major’s Minute”. I can’t reverse and play back if there’s something I missed.

Longer mottos, please. 140 characters seems like a much better maximum, and you can imagine the obvious integration with twitter if it happened.

Thank you for expanding the download queue.

  • Fubar49

    The speed is great!

  • ZybaMan

The gold veteran thing is pretty stupid. I’ve had live gold for 3 years but just because I didn’t buy another 12 month card right away, the years that I payed for no longer exist.

  • Lucky 13 X

I am also curious about what changes the Zune Marketplace will bring once it replaces the current Xbox Live Video Marketplace. I am pleased with the ways things are now, and I hope the setup and available content does not change too much. Also, will more video content then be made available to more regions outside the US?

  • Pemalite

Just checked Mass Effect, was $99.95 or 6000 Microsoft Points, in-fact all the “Games on demand” are at a crap price, and I feel no inclination to buy any of those games.

    1) I can buy Mass Effect brand-new for $49.95 brand new. (That’s half the price!)

    2) Australians have LIMITED download quota’s, so that’s additional costs, Most Australians have less than 25gb of downloads a month as they are limited to Telstra as an ISP, which includes uploads.

A few ISP’s however like Westnet and iiNet do have Quata free Xbox live, but that’s only a small portion of Australians.

So really, do I pay $50 for Call of Duty 2? Waste 20% (Or more) of my download limit, or go to the store and pick it up for $20 brand new? Where I save money, potential time, and my download limit?

I understand the need to not under-cut retailers, but I would be more than willing to pay a $5 to $10 premium over a store-bought copy, but a 50% mark-up is ludicrous, and it makes the Games on Demand seem like a silly idea (And an easy money grab).

And not to mention, that the Xbox HDD’s maximum size is 120gb so you are limited on storage to. (And there is a massive mark-up on those as well, no way does it cost $200 in parts for a 120gb 2.5″ Notebook Sata HDD in a shiny new casing, I can pick up a 500gb drive for $120, perhaps release a larger drive and make the 60gb and 120gb drives cheaper? Then we can buy more stuff.)

  • DuffIII

Seems like there is some confusion about the veteran/years played number. From Major’s Twitter: “Got questions about that little number next to your Gamertag after the update? Look here for info: http://bit.ly/Li9yp

  • Euphoric Fusion

I am really happy to see that all the people that weren’t in the preview program all think the same as those of us that were.
Maybe M$ will listen to us all now cos they pretty much shrugged us off through the preview.
All the issues being spoken about here were all brought to light right at the start of the preview a few weeks ago and nothing has changed.
We need to stand up to M$ for trying to force these stupid prices in the Avatar Marketplace/ Games on Demand then maybe they will start to give us features we actually want and NOT a new money spinner for them.

  • Lucky 13 X

I also agree with all the comments that digital distribution should be discounted or much closer to used current value on older games. The only way I could see the prices being the same as the retail games is if they released games on GoD the same day they released them to retail. In terms of the Avatar marketplace, I hope companies will see this as a way for free advertising instead of charging $5 for fake clothing/items. I’m very surprised at the number of people purchasing these avatar add ons for the current prices, was expecting them all to be under 100 points.

  • AlexKokonas

just tried to play splosion man and was wondering if there were awards yet for this game. I thought there would be an update for the game and there wasnt. When can we expect some awards from this game and how come the XBOX team doesnt care to go intp any detail about this feature. I think this is a bigger deal than the stupid rating system which will become a nightmare for people making unfair ratings.

  • Doh Ray Egon

The only clothing I have bought so far was only 40 points because I had a spare 50 points sitting in my account. And there isn’t really anything to get on the marketplace for 50 points…so I decided to get an eye patch. If I have 160 points or more…I’m NEVER going to spend it on avatar clothing/accessories/props. I could spend that on USEFUL things like DLC or games.

  • Mike Nutts

My gamertag is currently not associated with a windows live account. Microsoft probalby removed it because I did not use it for a long time.
I updated my xbox with this new update, that is supposed to fix the problem.
I still cannot change my windows live details. I keep getting an error message that says : “Can’t connect to XBOX LIVE, Please try again later”
eventhough I’m connected to XBOX LIVE.
What can I do in order to fix the problem? I’m waiting for this update to come for 6 months.
I want to avoid creating a new gamertag and I insist on associating a new windows live email address to my current gamertag.

  • DavidGX

Here’s a pricing guide you might want to consider..

New games (less than a year old) for $40

Decreasing by $10 per year until they reach $10 and they stay at that price from then on.

  • programad

Where is my ODST and Mjolnir armors?

  • Quaranj

The avatar items work 100% if purchased by two accounts on the same box. Going through the items on the HD you can see my Halo beret on the drive once, so I assume it is in the rights that it is available to both me and the missus (Yes, we both threw down the whole 80×2 points for it.)
Now to those of you who are complaining that you can’t share your items, suck it up. You’re not THAT into your 360 anyways, so who cares if your avatar is plain vanilla. Sure, I don’t always pay for my own points, but everyone I know who loves me knows that if all else fails, get me a points card and I am happy. So, if you’re cheap, but love your 360 anyways, let others know how to get you your fix, the rest of you are SoL. If MS started letting the clothes be interchangeable, then you’d see copies floating on mem cards, possibly torrents of ‘em, and people requesting credits for duplicate content purchases like mine and the missus Halo berets. Your avatar is your image, not your kids, not your brother’s, not your uncle’s… YOURS. If you did buy the star wars props, would you want a train of people coming by to come take your bought clothes? Nope…me neither.

So if the marketplace team is watching, okay, the price point on some of the digital games is steep for most folks (but some people might buy a few anyways just to not have to deal with a disc). Some people will complain about avatar items, but it’s better than letting the full cat out of the bag. (How fun would it be if everyone showed up at the same party wearing the same outfit all the time?) Please just find a smoother way to integrate the original XBOX DLC into the marketplace. I found out the hard way that I had to go into each original xbox game and re-download the free content since it wasn’t “officially” in my 360 downloaded items list. I’ve been trying to find a way to *give* you guys $6 for the Battlefront 2 DLC for over a year. ;)

BTW: Where’s the announcement for a larger HD? I’ve filled my Elite system drive a couple times now, and the thinning-out list is getting more and more difficult. New items = more space. I volunteer to beta test that 500GB SSD that I would hope is on the drawing board.

  • JUZtin jOy

Hey Major no free props for the xbl preview members.. atleast an award. Anyway the update is an excellent job done by the people at microsoft. Hats off to all..

  • MartyPG13

The increased speed is a big improvement and very welcomed, but I’m not even showing a year’s Xbox live membership, despite being on Live since Xbox1. A new tag for Xbox360 at launch, but fully paid up since then – something isn’t right with your records :/

Games on Demand pricing = not a chance. You can get nearly all of them new and sealed for less at retail.

  • programad

Major, I got a gap of 30 days between my gold subscriptions. Can I have a number 2? :D
I hope you guys change the “veteran status” to a cumulative calculation.

  • Nitemare1

Why can’t I use MS points for games on demand in Canada?

  • MartyPG13

Hmm – scratch that – it’s now started showing up, definitely wasn’t there before.

  • Supercham2k

Just wondering what happened to the debit card option is for the uk? Other than that its all good i was in the preview program so i thought the the debit card thing would be out today.

  • Nitemare1

    Nevermind. I’m an idiot!

  • ZybaMan

So, It’s cumulative which means I should at least have a 1. I looked at my history and 2/07 to 3/08 is a year.

  • programad

I’m just wondering if sometime will we have a “chat room” for the avatars. A place where our avatars and props can interact, have light saber/cotton swab fights, RC warthog racings, etc.

The Party system needs to support the props too. At least the ones that the avatars hold on their hands.

I have a lot of great ideas for them. Contact me, Microsoft :D

  • Euphoric Fusion

    @ QUARANJI

“Now to those of you who are complaining that you can’t share your items, suck it up. You’re not THAT into your 360 anyways, so who cares if your avatar is plain vanilla.”

WTF are you on about? I play my Xbox ALOT but my son and partner both have accounts so why shouldn’;t they be able to use them too? They can play the arcade games I download but not a crappy bit of overpriced digital clothing? Get real.
All they need to do is use the same DRM as they do with other content and it will be available to ALL users on the console it was orignally downloaded on.
My son likes to have the same stuff as me… it’s what kids do. But he doesn’t have a live account seeing as he is only 6 years old so why should i have to make him an account just to re-download an item so he has it too.
    It’s BS… simple.

  • Patriot298

I like the Netflix update but one thing…I’m very upset to see the price of games ondemand!! COD2 30 bucks???? It’s only 10 at Wal Mart here. As a matter a fact I can purchase all the others for only 19.99 at the store. Gamesondemand seems to be a get rich bunch of bull by Microsoft.

  • MeS FEAR

Microsoft should really think about to change the prices…its not like creating a game…this is just some stuff for a avatar and not a dlc or arcade game…but nice try microsoft…bill gates always trying to rip off ppl to be the most rich man on the world…but not with me…cool stuff but i will pass as long as its so expensive…games on demand are overpriced too…i can get a brand new copy of NFS:Most Wanted for 10€ (i think its 12 us-dollar) so the management really sux :(

  • AnotherSociety

Very nice GOD needs to be updated but dont tell him that ; )

  • andre kanon

    @Quaranj

“…If MS started letting the clothes be interchangeable, then you’d see copies floating on mem cards, possibly torrents of ‘em”

wy isn’t this a problem for downloaded maps and other DLC? ms doesn’t seem to be concerned about ‘torrents of em’ too much as my 3 kids can each play them on their own profile.

“…Your avatar is your image, not your kids, not your brother’s, not your uncle’s…” i am not buying a halo shirt 3x for 3 boys. if theft was a big issue, then they could easily associate the item with the console id + gamer tag or some other combination. granted its not the end of the world and life will go on.

  • Patriot298

Great update for Netflix but Gamesondemand and the Avatar Marketplace are a ripoff. 800 points for a shirt!? 29.99 for COD2 when its 10 at Wal Mart? All the others can be purchased for 19.99 at my local Wal Mart. GAMES ON DEMAND=RIPOFF!!!! Very upset with Microsoft!

  • programad

Hey, next year we will have a CUP, what about soccer uniforms and coutries flags?

  • Tottto

    Saludos.

  • andre kanon

    @Quaranj
“…if MS started letting the clothes be interchangeable, then you’d see copies floating on mem cards, possibly torrents of ‘em, and people ”
why isn’t this a problem for downloaded maps and XBLA games? if one was to believe your theory and reasoning this items should have ‘torrents of ‘em’ float around.

“…Your avatar is your image, not your kids, not your brother’s, not your uncle’s… ” with 3 kids in the house…the avatars ARE theres! as a parent paying for three virtual lightsabers 3 times is questionable. imagine how much MORE parents would buy if the times could be shared on the same console by checking the console ID

  • paperless89

Huge rip off. 400 points for a light saber? No, excuse me, a VIRTUAL light saber.

I’d love to know what the excuse is…

  • GdaTerry

Honestly, the prices need to be dropped on Games on demand. You can get away with ridiculous pricing for everything else, but not something I can get up and buy myself for half the price.

  • mcchea

Why do people say the Guide is extremely faster? When I press the Guide button in-game, it should come up INSTANTLY, not in 3 seconds.

  • Quaranj

Ahhh, everyone is feeding the troll today :)

@ Euphoric Fusion : If you let your 6 year old on your xbox, then it really doesn’t matter whether he has a lightsaber or not on his silver account, now does it? Is he the one who is REALLY responsible for that massive gamer score? It can be argued that if you were serious about your 360 console, you wouldn’t let six-year-olds touch it. *I* don’t. :) The torrents comment wasn’t about setting them up like Halo maps, but more like gamerpics as one other poster suggested. Your solution is easy though, buy nothing and your son’s avatar can dress just like you. I just hope you’re not one of those parents who pulls the headset and starts complaining of people swearing in the M rated game your son is in on Live.

@andre kanon : Next thing you’ll know, they’ll want their own 1 year gold accounts on live! How ridiculous that you’d have to buy them 3! Seriously – the rest of us could care less about what your puppies do or do not want. If no one loves them enough to get ‘em a points card you might as well sign ‘em up for medical experiments anyways. (All apologies to Monty Python.)

/Didn’t know I was trolling until I got two on the line.
//That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.

  • P00K

Yeah actually, my son would LOVE a lightsaber. So would my daughter…

However – I’m not paying $10 for avatar dress up. $5 is seriously pushing it as it is – we have full XBLA games and game add-ons on the marketplace for $5. This is nothing more than a 3D model of a lightsaber… and you can’t even change the color.

  • CrashQuato

The Games on demand prices are a joke! $39.99 for a platinum hit game is ridiculous when the game can be purchased at almost any store for between $19.99 and $29.99. That section of the dashboard is gonna be a dusty tomb on my system.

  • ImaginedBug

Quaranj, my nephew and niece (5 and 6 1/2) like having their own avatar on my 360, which we occasionally use to play kid games like Spyro, Kung Fu Panda or Lego Indy. If they see my avatar with an accessory they think is fun, they should be able to at least apply it to theirs while their accounts (not Silver, not Gold, just player accounts) are on my console.

I’m with you on the multiple Gold subscriptions though. If people have kids that want to play online, they should get them to do chores or whatever to earn their online play, and teach them a thing or two about how the world works while they’re at it.

  • Deadly Moves

Thanx for the great update, but…
Games on demand prices are ridiculas! £19.99 for games i can get for £10 or less in the shops or online.

And why wont it let us look at ALL the games we’ve completed? not just last 12. how did that pass through microsoft without someone pointing that out.

Some of the avatar stuff is abit pricey! c’mon! 400msp for a lightsaber?!

  • tozOL

jesus, was part of beta and I thought 80 points for T-Shirts were bad, but my god 400 points for a light sabre, its just obscene in my opinion, it really is, seriously who prices this stuff…the SAME price as an Arcade title is really so far off the mark its untrue.

come on MS lets get real.

  • AnEternalEnigma

I love the update overall for its features, but this update has enabled new horrors in the gouging of DLC. Microsoft has really outdone themselves when it comes to outrageous pricing on Avatar items and Games on Demand.

I want to know how this company can justify selling certain items at the same price as a fair amount of Xbox Live Arcade games. I want to hear the argument that makes the value of a piece of digital clothing parallel to a Xbox Live Arcade game, because I can’t find one. None of these items should be over 80MS. $5 for a lightsaber? $4 for a RC Warthog that you can’t directly interact with? Who seriously thinks this pricing is logical?

And Call of Duty 2, a game that debuted with the Xbox 360 almost four years ago, is priced at $30. Words cannot convey how ridiculous this is. I could jump in the car and buy it from Gamestop for about $10, if that. With these prices, 360 Games on Demand will fall flat on its face like its predecesor, Xbox Originals. Just as no one thought previous-gen, over-5-year-old Xbox games were worth $15, no majority will buy these old games at these prices when they can drive to a store and get them much cheaper. The convenience of downloading was not worth paying extra for Xbox Originals and history will repeat itself again with 360 Games on Demand.

It’s a shame too. Both Avatar Marketplace and 360 Games on Demand had the potential to be great little services. But sadly, they serve no purpose than to join the abundance of social experiments, disguised as overpriced DLC, to see how many of their customers will just give their money away blindly.

  • P00K

    AND:
    .
When is the ability to fix Windows live IDs going to roll? It wasn’t in the preview, and it still isn’t live with today’s update. That’s the one thing I actually NEED – and I’ve been waiting for 9 months already.

  • GdaTerry

My advice, boycott games on demand. They’ll learn eventually.

  • Lazigeek

Count me as another vote for less ‘trippy’ visualisations. Maybe it’s just me, but I like visualisations such as Nematodes for Milkdrop. Just having swirly colours does nothing for me.

I’ve even grown envious of the planetary visualisation on the PS3.

  • darkjester74

Larry, thanks for passing on our thoughts to marketing regarding pricing on Games on Demand. Between negative feedback and soft sales, I’m sure we will see the price go down soon.

  • Warrengonline

Welcome to the NXE Update 2. I see loads of you are having a blast with all the new stuffs. Great!! Sorry to hear that some you (including a close friend of mine) experienced the Red Rings of Death. Hey, this IS Console War and wars usually have some casualties for the greater good. We all agree, the NetFlix upgrade is AWESOME to the MAX! I have my own opinion about the Games on Demand, but took all my frustration on Sony’s PSP Go idea and how it will hurt the game collectors of today in 2020 (if we live that long). Hey, if you want it, buy it. Simple as that. Like someone said regarding the avatar items and clothing: “If all the stuff was cheap, everyone would show up wearing the same thing.” That is basic logic and it works. Also people you can now rate most products on Xbox Live!

I only have one suggestion after watching a TV Show on NetFlix Party:
    1. Can we have it where if the NetFlix Party Leader leaves, the movie continues? I know that sounds lazy, but some of us have a few minutes to watch a movie and talk a little, then out the door. That is my only suggestion for NetFlix.

    @programad
I’ve been asking for that since NXE 1, something along the lines of the Puzzle Arcade ‘Gallery Home’ (please, NOTHING like PS Home), for up to 8 players – Host controls all like in Party Chat. We can walk, sit, play mini games like 4-on-4: soccer, baseball, basketball, volleyball, hockey or a mini theme park area (Thrillville: Off the Rails – Dumbed-Down Edition for the NXE Avatars). That’d be nice. Xbox Live NXE Rocks.

  • The Big Zeus

Sorry Major and MSFT, but the Games on Demand pricing is absolutely ridiculous. Listen to your customers and lower those prices!

  • ObiCiscoNobi

    love Movie Party

  • Lazigeek

To all those people talking about the GoD prices… Over here in New Zealand all the GoD games are $99.99 (US$66.70), while (new retail) games in stores can be as high as $139.99 (US$93.43). Even EB Games sells second hand games for $120.00 (US$80).

And on top of that… we get no video market place and no Netflix.

All I’m saying is… it sure would be nice even just to get the more features for less money like you Americans.

+ Good: Improved Marketplace/Dashboard performance. Thank you!
    - Bad: Games on Demand prices are absurd, charging for Mii Too props when even basic features aren’t implemented compared to your competition’s take on it, etc. Rest assured I will be taking my money to Amazon instead.

  • Anonymous

    drop the prices!

  • aStrangeDisease

Yes, I am happy about Avatar Marketplace pricing. If it was cheaper, I might look like you. If you don`t like it, there are plenty of free clothes to choose from.

GoD prices are high because of convenience. Like paying a taxi $20 to pick me up $10 worth of junk food. I also don`t need to get off the couch to play a downloaded game.

  • PeaceSquid

Yeah, so… Kameo for 20 quid has to be some kind of hilarious joke right?

Games on Demand is arguably even worse than those early ‘deal of the week’ things.

  • Exu

Games on Demand pricing is a joke. 2400MSP/£19.99 for old SHITE? Not to mention that IX video with the yank bird that clearly listed Mass Effect at 1600. Not to mention other regions.
I heard that it’s up to individual region controllers to set pricing. Well then, order these rogue ripoff merchants into line and keep the damn renegades in check!

So, any update on the ‘Splosion Man TU with those first two Avatar Awards? Because knowing your certification process they’ll be the LAST two!

  • DL CyberSkull

Hey Major, what games support Avatar item reward trophies?

  • AlexKokonas

Hey guys i have been thinking about the price on the games on demand and quite honestly its more for a convenience thing to buying the game when your completley bored than anything else. Look I don’t hear people complain about renting a movie off of video marketplace. It costs more than blockbuster and red box but everyone pays it cause they don’t want to run to the store. Games on Demand wasn’t intended on buying every game they put up for sale. is it really going to be that big off a rip off when you buy a game every 6 months, play it and then enjoy it? Personally I don’t know why you wouldn’t go to the store and buy a virtual copy of the game. I myself go to Cheap ass gamers website everyday because i love finding great deals on games to go buy. Right now I think we have an over abundant amount of games (WHICH DOESN’T BOTHER ME)and there is way too many good deals out there on games. Also another thing to consider is they don’t want to piss off the retailers and take there business away from them. I’m sure XBOX will have some sales down the road on these games and then maybe buy them when the price is right. With that being said guys just take the games on demand part of this update as an added bonus to what they give us thats all.

  • CARNAGE RULES

Why do you guys need Games on Demand you lazy MUTHER FACKERS?

  • UnarmedGorilla

Wow, this update is hardly anything to jump up and down about. No netflix in Canada, no biggie though… the GoD pricing is out of whack ($39.99CDN for COD2… come on! it’s less than $10 at gamestop or ebay), and 400MS points or $5 for an avatar prop… wtf! Nice try MS, but it falls a little short for me considering the hype you’ve been throwing at it.

  • TANK 2old2play

Avatar marketplace pricing is way to expensive. 5 bucks for a lightsabre? And 1000 points (12 bucks or so) for a stormtrooper outfit with lightsabre? Ridiculous pricing.

Also not impressed by the G.O.D. pricing either. I can pick those games up used for less than those prices. Being download only i expect the prices to be significantly cheaper than retail becuase there’s no manufacturing costs for the discs or packaging, no shipping costs to the retailer either. If this is a test bed for how we’ll be buying new release titles in the future, i wouldn’t spend any more than $40 for a new release digital download title. Reasons is because of my previous points and because i can’t get $30 return on my game by selling or trading it in afterwards, so that $40 is a loss fom my wallet.

  • CORLANDO12

lols. the new update is deff decent like the way the acheivements are is way better now

  • willwgp

So … you DO get what you pay for! When I saw the new avatar stuff in the downloads and saw they were costing money I was NOT surprised, some friends of mine were already expecting this to come up in a future dashboard … here it is!

One thing that surprised me is the pricing for the Games On Demand actually has a $ price to it … but even then it sounds ridiculous to price the game more than you would at the store. It makes sense that it costs more to reproduce the game on disc, but not so much to put it on the hard drive directly … I’d really like an official MS spokesperson to explain this.

Ultimately, being I am a 4 year member of Xbox Live, I have learned to watch it grow. And it definitely is. I have also learned not to complain about it. There are a lot of things MS tries to justify and give out for free (honestly 1v100 is a LOT of fun!).

So this is really something you all just need to understand, it’s part of the economy. So climb up a hill and get over it. I know something digital (as opposed to tangible) should not have a price, but that’s just the way things go …

IN ALBUQUERQUE! Sorry just had to say it :)

  • willwgp

Only thing I would suggest about this entire update, is that for the rating system, you should only allow people that actually own (or played) the game to rate it, not just anyone that doesn’t (or hasn’t). Now that you’ve already put this part of the update out, maybe it’s too late.

  • NICK982002

Still cant figure out this avatar awards stuff

  • No One IX

I actually liked the update; it brought a lot of new stuff to keep the experience fresh.
I just have one big complain: isn’t there a way to have the Xbox team on mexico actually work in getting the deals for the videomarket place, and the rest of functions of the dashboard.
About the videomarket place I know it’s hard to get the deals with the rights holders, but for gods sake its been almost two years and we still have nothing. It seems that the people working here to manage those deals haven’t even try. Most of the movies are released at the same time in both countries, except for forgein ones; dvd and blu ray releases are mainly on the same day and by the same studios, if the right owners for mexican films don’t want to participate, it really doesn’t matter, most of them are bad anyway, and most users won’t pay for them either. It is the mayor global studios that count and the ones we are interrested in. If possible you could help moving this situation forward, it would be really appreciated.

  • Aliasalpha

I hate to join in with the whining people but I’m afraid I’m in the “games on demand are too expensive” camp.

Basically I think that this GoD thing is going to die a death here if you don’t drop the prices. Its not cheaper, you get less (admittedly you lose the least important parts but I personally like manuals) for your money and the sad fact is that I live in a crap country for the internet, the amount a single 360 game takes is often a quarter of the monthly downloads for many people. Mass effect is 6.8gb, bioshock 4.5, oblivion 5.9, on a 20GB/month connection which are sadly rather common, that’s your downloads mostly gone and it takes a hell of a long time to download on the average Australian connection speed.

  • ozblogger

Not bad update , but I was really looking forward to Video Library enhancements, all we got was Sort files by type/name.

  • DarkTear81

Uhhh, I can’t log in with my WLID anymore… not in the MSN-Messenger nor on Xbox.de…
My Gamercard shows me that I’m only 1 year on XBL-Gold… but I’m sure I’m with u longer.

  • jxbouis

It has been said a million times, but pricing for GoD is clearly off. I mean, I am a very reasonable guy, and was actually eager to test this new functionality, but 30 euros for games that have been out for several years and can be found NEW at least 10 euros less seems like such a bad deal.

Plus, these games can’t be sold once we don’t play them anymore.

I like the theory of GoD a lot, but in practice, it needs tweaking.

  • blackdevil4589

400 Ms points for a lightsaber???????? WHHYYYYYYY ????

  • nmg82

Avatar Marketplace is WAY overpriced. There’s honestly some cool stuff on it. It’s really a rip off for what you get. Like blackdevil4589 said…why? Why do these things cost so much? Anyway, I’m having a hard time resisting the GoW and ODST armor uniforms. I’m waiting it out to see what the avatar awards will consist of. I’m sure people are buying up stuff on the Avatar Marketplace, I just can’t bring myself to do it. I’m really dissapointed they went with that high of a pricing model.

  • jxbouis

Speaking of which, could Major let us know, even ballpark, when MS is planning to shed some light on Avatar Awards, ie be a little more specific regarding which games might have them ? Just was on Redlynx (Trials HD) forums, a dev strongly suggests that the game might have those implemented.

    Thanks for any info.

MS YOU HAVE TO DO SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!!

  • KapuKapper

Major, do you know when we’ll receive our E3 Trophy prop codes?

    Thanks!

  • programad

Hey, Major an Xbox LIVE guys.

I still suggest that the avatars png images on the web support more positions and props.

And a way to take a “picture” of the party, with my friends avatars.

  • wolfzero01

the avatar prices are just as bad as the prices Sony charges for Home crap, I hope that MS lowers the prices but I won’t hold my breath

  • Quixter

Can anything be done about the loud beep that now comes through the headset when joining or leaving a party? I’m hearing a lot of complaints about it.

  • Gameskeeper

Games on Demand pricing is simply insane!

Why would I pay 5 to 10 times the price of a physical game disc, and to boot lose the possibility to borrow or trade the game?

Greed like that is simply evil.

  • Warrengonline

    @CARNAGE RULES
No offense meant, but I thought Games on Demand would be a nice library of re-programmed (to work on Xbox Live more than just a cheap, but somewhat stable emulation software) of games that are not abundant, such as Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis or Perfect Dark Zero. Though what I DO see is a pre-release-type service for those who pre-order the game in digital format only. This would save A LOT of time (depending if there is a dedicated pre-release server) of going to the store and standing in-line. The only thing is pricing: no shipping, no printed artwork or reference guide, no manufactured physical disc that has been duplicated for world wide distribution or even a rented store shelf. All of those missing add-ons will eventually mean less cost for Games on Demand or will it? Valve is awesome in how they operate. Efficiently and Effectively.

    @AlexKokonas
So true. I need a Neo Geo AES, 3DO and Sega CD outlet. No many hits since the last time I was there (sometime last year). Friends invited me to GOOZEX, but I’m a face-to-face game trader/swapper/lender, unless I’ve talked to you for a while and know you. Although I’ve heard that the site is very trust-worthy.

  • Blue Thunder28

Games on Demand and Avatar Marketplace are amazing features.. but ruined with the pricing! There was a lot of missed potential here it’s really disappointing. I’m still greatly looking forward to the rest of this update with Facebook and Twitter and Last.fm .. The small changes in this are nice but the biggest ones of all are rendered practically useless! Also I thought the option for games on demand would include MS Points and real Dollars, I only see dollars and I have way more MS Points than money so… that’s disappointing too.. heh. But seriously I’m a little surprised MS dropped the ball on this one, it could have been huge! Better pull an Indie Games and fix the pricing before Sony releases their own Games on Demand with realistic pricing.

  • Number1Gunn

The netflix and avatar updates are amazing. Not getting stuff in the guide button is great as is the tenure feature.

Disappointed with the Games on Demand. $30 for Call of Duty 2, a 3 year old game? Gamestop had a sale in June or July, brand new Call of Duty 2 for $9.99. I know there is a bundle deal with bioshock and oblivion, I don’t remember the exact dollar amount, but I even considered buying it even though I already own bioshock because it was a great deal like $30 or $40 dolalrs. It’s $60 here if you buy them together.

I could understand if the title is not on available to buy, but there should be some type of depreciation on titles as they get older. The same should go with the downloadable content on a permanent basis, not as a weekely deal. If I’m not mistaken, the map packs for Call of Duty, 2,3, & 4 are all still at there original prices. Who’s going to buy the downloadable map packs for full price on a game that’s 2 to 3 years old that doesn’t have many people playing online?

  • itzallgud

Thanks for the update. Love the improved speed of the dashboard & marketplace. Used to kill me having to wait just to browse through marketplace.

  • Rivenordel

Yeah, I would totally appreciate a fix in the drop out of an Xbox Live Party issue that’s been bothering for some time now.
And can’t wait for the Twitter update either!
Although, 400 MS for a lightsaber? I mean, come on! It’s Star Wars and all, but it’s a bit pricey don’t you think?

  • Karl Quick

Why can’t users in Saudi Arabia download new update? My Xbox Live connection test passes and I’m told there is a new update but it will not even start to download. Earlier this year I was still able to get game updates but then that failed a few months back also??? I thought this update was suppose to be world wide. Blocking the movie section is fine but at least let us access Xbox Live…

  • Sonic Avenger

Major, I’ve been getting some weird banding down the screen since the update. Do you know if there are other users with the same issues?
