Xbox 360 Modern Warfare 2 Limited Edition Console

I am in Los Angeles at a Modern Warfare 2 press event where we just announced the Xbox 360 Modern Warfare 2 Limited Edition Console. It is available for pre-order today at U.S. retailers, and in other regions later this week. The package includes the custom designed console, 250 GB hard drive, two wireless controllers and a standard edition of Modern Warfare 2 for US $399.99.

Edit: You can now Pre-Order the console on Amazon

Nice setup for someone looking to get a 360. 2 wireless controllers is a nice deal, huge hard drive, what do the controllers look like?

  • davidkenobi

    Announced at 329€ in Europe.

  • Major Nelson

Controllers are black. No additional designs on them.

Re: the 250 GB HDD being sold separately, I’ll be sure to tell the folks making those decisions the desire for one. Let me see what I can do.

  • BustedChain

Microsoft needs to rethink their hard drive strategy. It is pissing increasingly more people off, especially since MicroShaft is starting to push downloadable content more.

  • Ghost of Kirin

@Scottsdale Thug, the only other known Jasper Chipset Elite Units are the Red Limited Edition Resident Evil Elites — apart from the newer Arcade units — right? I should hope that this is also one of them Jasper Chipsets… seriously, since I missed out on that Red Elite, and this sure as heck seems like a great deal! I’ve had my Elite shipped for servicing before… and one could say that I’m a little shy on shelling out for yet another that could, very possibly, fail on me again in the near future. :(

  • ExtremeGamer

Major, can you find out if you can transfer your saves/downloads/etc to the 250GB HDD from the 120GB HDD? That’s all that’s holding me back.

  • wolfzero01

they really need to release the 250GB hard drive, especially if MS wants people to use the Games On Demand service. if you only have the 20GB one, there is no way you could continue to buy arcade games, movies, download demos, etc unless you are constantly deleting & re-downloading stuff. even getting the 120GB one you have to be careful how much stuff you download, & what games you have installed on it. I have the 120GB one and between the Rock Band tracks, arcade games & DLC I have along with the games I installed its almost half full. hopefully if the bigger hard drive is released, it won’t cost a lot, but knowing MS it’ll probably cost as much as the Elite console does now.

  • davidkenobi

It seems that lots of people asking for a 250GB hard drive…with a good price…of course.

  • Fatheadwilson

Hey Major, here’s something else you can tell the people making the HDD’s. THEY’RE TOO EXPENSIVE! But I’m sure you guys already knew that.

I mean, come on. You only hurt your rep and your chances to sell more games on demand because of this strategy. You’ve done some great things this generation with the 360, and that just makes your pricing strategy seem that much more greedy.

I’ve wanted to upgrade to a 120GB ever since it came out. I’ve wanted to buy some Xbox Originals, and now some Games on Demand, but I haven’t. And you know why? Because my 20GB HDD is full and I REFUSE to pay the outrageous prices that you guys deem as “fair”. *cough-BS-cough*

PLEASE try and be competitive with your HDD pricing!

  • DavidGX

If the 250g HD is released… SUB-$100 I might get it. But of course that won’t happen, because it would be fair.

  • moocow21

I could care less about Modern Warfare 2, but it would sure be nice to have a 250GB hard drive for around $99 or less. Alas, with the prices of 360 Hard Drives, I don’t think I’ll ever upgrade from my 20GB.

  • II W4RLORD II

I like the idea and all, but that thing looks ugly, lmao!

  • Hoffer

I put in an Amazon preorder first thing this morning.

  • CDN Crockett

Great stuff keep it up eh!

  • Thief000

I’m sure the 250GB HDD will make it into retail at some point in time after the holidays.

Nice bundle BTW! I have a pretty good feeling the Xbox 360 is going to pwn this holiday season.

  • AblativMeatshld

Major, if you can get them to put the 250 HDD out as a separate item, could you TRY to get them to price it at a level that doesn’t make me thing “WTH? I could get a 1T external for my PC at that price”? I understand that the form-factor causes some amount of production cost increase, but seriously….

  • AMT

    Major:

Still no option for using our own HDDs. I would really like the option to use my own HDDs, so I can use a SSD for faster load times. COME ON Guys! Pass that one along. A plastic HDD case that slots into the current HDD HOLE sold by Microsoft so we can use our own drives!!! ARGGGHHHH!!!!

On the look out for ACORNS!!! :|

  • K1LLER HORNET

    250GB HDD – YES!!!!!
    That’s all i’m interested in.

I’m not stupid, so i’m not gonna pay Microsoft’s extortionate prices – but i’m still gonna have a 250GB HDD – take that for what you will ;D

BTW: ‘Microsoft have said that the 250GB HDD will NOT BE SOLD SEPARATELY!’ (For Now) :)

  • KineticOnline

Major if you really want to pass something on about hard drives, you need to tell them that what we really want is the ability to add our own hard drives, even if it means buying some kind of hard drive caddy.

Sony had the right idea by including it out of the box, its about time MS get their act together and do their usual, we offer it as an addon so the customer has the choice to use it not not.

The prices being changed for 360 HDD’s at the minute is extortionate, the company will make ALOT more money selling the drive caddy.
If they dont (i havent done this yetbut thinking about it) people will be forced to continue hacking compatible HDD’s which, when identified, sell out quicker than happy hour shots during spring break

  • DHartmann

No Asia Limited Edition Console verson ?
    No~~~~~~~~~~~

  • DeviousChainsaw

Echoing others Major, HDD prices need to come down. $160 for 120 GB? I can only imagine what the 250 GB will cost

  • Dharkanjil

I would also like confirmation that the data on my existing 120GB harddrive could be exported to this 250GB model, were I to purchase one.

  • Oatmeal25

That’s a Great bundle. At $400 it’s well worth the extra $100 for an additional 130GB of disc, a copy of the MW2 and an extra controller.

The only thing I would “complain” about is the underwhelming artwork and the omission of the HDMI cable and possibly the exclusion of built-in wireless (but even the new 802.11n adaptor will be slower than being physically connected).

  • bplayak

I think it’s ridiculous how some people complain about the prices. 399 is a great price for this! Think about it, extra controller + the game + the new HDD. This is the best bundle out of all the consoles.

  • ZprivateZ

Microsoft well not sell it seperate for the sole reason that if they hold out and get the demand high enough then they can sell it for $199+, they selling this as limited edition to have something to compete with sony’s ps3 this holiday season because for the money ps3 is just a better deal with thier new price drop as much as i hate to say that its just a fact. More proof is microsofts unwillingness to add built in wifi instead they have a new adapter coming out they will get another $100+ for.

  • Warrengonline

    @ZprivateZ
Compete for the holiday season? Loads of Wii consoles are going to be sold because of the Wii Fit Balance Board and the New Motion Add-on. PS3′s Eye Pet promotion has not really started – but once it does, the Xbox360 will need ‘the space’ for the DLC Members to continue with ease, not be hassled with what to delete to be able download what to download. Price vs Space on HDD.

Christmas 2009 is going to be very ‘special’ on all corners I can feel it.

  • Louie

    *YAWN*

Another tactic to rip consumers off.

Enjoy the same console with some new paint.

I still think the PS3 offers more for $299. 1080p Blu-Ray movies FTW.

  • VVho Cares

I wish they would just sell the 360.

    $399
    - 59.99 (game)
    - 49.99 (extra controller)
    $289 bucks ;)

That’s cheaper than the Elite 120GB for $399

  • VVho Cares

Good point Louie. I’ve already got 2 360′s (Premium and Elite) and still can’t play Blu-ray. I may just get a PS3 just so I can play Metal Gear.

  • VVho Cares

    sorry.. i meant $289 vs $299

  • AMT

Glad someone agrees! Both KineticOnline and myself agree that the addon would be appreciated. Plus, Microsoft could sell it alone or with…lets say with a non-HDD 360 unit. :D

If Microsoft keeps preventing the use of our own HDDs…they still won’t resemble an Acorn that falls to the ground and then grows into a might “RED” oak tree that accepts shipping in El Savadorian HDDs….but it would be nice to have our own HDD choice.

    You dig?

And no one knows why Acorn is an acorn, and you still might not know. However, you should fight against El Savadorian HDDs and allow for SSDs.

    That’s all.

  • Insimbi

    Mine is pre-ordered boyiiii :)

  • Exu

Of course they’re going to bloody release a 250GB hard drive separately, just not at this time. We want cheaper hard drives with more storage, Microsoft want to sell smaller hard drives at a higher price.
Could you imagine how much the 250 would cost if the stubborn bastards wouldn’t drop the 120?

Also, it really is silly how there isn’t a cheaper Wi-Fi option now. That and removing the HD cables and not making a Blu-Ray addon yet, it’s almost like Microsoft doesn’t actually WANT us to adopt new technology.

  • Maniac3000

Looks like the transfer kit doesn’t work at all with the 60GB hard drive despite Microsoft’s claim that it does, so I’m pretty sure it will not work with the 250GB hard drive either.
The included cable can be used to hook the drive up to your computer though, so you might be able to use a third party program to transfer files. Datel has their Xport thing as well. I’m not sure if using that’s against the ToS or not, it really shouldn’t be if Microsoft doesn’t wan tto offer that service themselves.
On that note, they really should release an option for you to back up your saves in the “cloud”. They have a bunch of stuff they stick the Live name on but don’t bother integrating. For example, they have both Live Mesh and Live Sync for file synchronization (one only works with space on the server, the other only works P2P). Then they have sky drive that provided more storage than Mesh, but doesn’t provide anything for synchronization. Why not combine all of this stuff and then allow you to upload your 360 saves to the “cloud storage” for backup as well? Some saves games for arcade titles are already stored as part of your profile and downloaded when you recover your gamertag already, just expand that capability.

  • Str8fe

Not bad, but I would also prefer the ODST version.

  • Copilco

Hummmmm. I’m a huge fan of the Call of Duty saga, but I don’t really like this console. I expected way more. Starting with, why doesn’t it come with a chrome disk tray?

The 250 Gb HDD is sweet, though. But I’ll stick to my 120 Gb Elite.

  • peachy001

Is this available in the UK? Please don’t say that it is but ONLY through Game. There is simply next to no competition left to go against Game, it really gets my goat.

I am pretty sure that the 250GB HDD will be available to purchase separately. Oh, and when will this thing be released? Can you get it now and then get the supplier to send the game when it is released. I ask because I am going to buy an Elite next week and would have liked to have shelled out for one of the 250GB ones.

Still shocked that MS don’t practically give the hard drives away. Most people I know want to fill have a 20GB that is full of stuff and they just won’t pay the crazy price for the 120GB. They want to buy more stuff but the HDD pricing is stopping them (rightly so). Major, can you have a word as the HDD pricing policy is holding you back from making shed loads more on DLC.

  • peachy001

One more thing. How come you carry adverts for compaies that flash 360s, seems a strange association to have on your site.

Alright, a couple more things. How come on the Xbox.com site for the US there is a search box that allows you to look for a gamertag, yet on my UK site I don’t have this function? You guys are always giving out gamertags in your show but the UK users don’t have the search box. I can get round this by substituting the name of one the names in the address bar, but it seems odd to me.

Can you also stop EA from making me sign up to one of their bloody forums or website things everytime I wanna play an EA game online.

  • Large1978

When will this be available for pre-order in uk?

  • II W4RLORD II

Although I thought this 360 could have been a bit more stylish, I have got this on pre-order. This is to hard to pass up with that 250G hard drive involved. Also, I figure my xbox pro will be close to needing replaced when I wear it out with ODST starting next week. Does anyone know if this basically an elite that has been styled for modern warfare2?

  • peachy001

I think Game and Gamestation will be carrying this one and the Forza 3 250GB special editions too. Likely be around £249.99 in my opinion. The Forza 3 bundle is out 23rd Oct, so you can bag yourself a £250GB option early if you cannot wait for the MW2 edition. The wait is killing me.

  • Hoffer

I put in a preorder yesterday 5 minutes after reading about this console. I love Call of Duty and like the looks of this console. I also love installing games to my hard drive. I will have that 250 GB filled up within a week. ;-) I already ordered up 2 black batteries for the controllers. Need to be color coordinated. I have the hardened edition on preorder as well. Now I need to decide if I should cancel that or keep and sell the copy of the game that comes with the console. I probably just cancel the hardened version.

  • uacostajr52

I ordered 1 yesterday before heading off to work. I LIKEYYYY!!! BUY BUY. Im gonna pick up a 50 or 60 inch lcd tv the same week if i get paid enough..

  • uacostajr52

@Hoffer. I canceled my hardened reservation at GS yesterday like i said and basically paid for the MW2 console completely. I have two black controllers and a red controller all with rechargeable batteries. So YES do it!!

  • K04 Passat

    Major:

My current 120 gig drive is nearly full, all of it from paid DLC. Is it going to be possible to transfer this stuff over to the 250 gig drive? Please let us know. That’s the only holdup I have, on picking this system up. It looks good, I need the space, but I don’t want to wind up losing a bunch of stuff. Some of the DLC I have is no longer on the service, I think.

Off the top of my head, the single player expansion for Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, that I never got around to playing yet…

  • ONI5

I guess if MS won’t bring this out as a stand alone part at a reasonable price.(Under $150) I guess I’ll have to wait till the magical internet fairy allows me to do so.
