Xbox 360 System Update rolling out (no new feature)

I wanted to let you know that the team has released a system update for the Xbox 360 over Xbox LIVE.

Sometime over the next few hours when you sign in to Xbox LIVE you’ll receive a prompt to accept this mandatory update. If you are signed into LIVE already, you may be signed out and asked to accept the update and you’ll be back online in a few moments.

There are no new features or changes in this update. This update is preparation for additional system enhancements (Facebook/Twitter/Last.FM) that will arrive later this year.

Again, there are no new features in this update.

Love the new features, thanks! ;)

Dang wish I would’ve looked here before I got up and fiddled with my modem and xbox and unhooked the dang thing and hooked it up directly to the modem. I was like 30 minutes before I was ready to sleep last night and got on to watch netflix to get me tired and got the update and couldn’t get back on. So of course I was wide awake after doing all that. Oh well at least its working now.

  • Jappe x360a

Nice, waiting for the Facebook thingy :P

  • Ghost of Kirin

@Wiizpig, it’s in our nature to expect a ‘great’ service when a premium is paid for; such as an Xbox Live service. So of course people “will” complain. Having said that, though – and I’m in agreeance with you – it isn’t the end of the world, however.

  • DavidGX

So, Major, if I don’t want facebook/twitter/etc on my 360, how will I disable it?

  • metallicorphan

Major-any news on the SKY TV thing and when its coming to the UK?

  • a peeking duck

DavidGX: pretty sure you will have to input your facebook/twitter/last.fm details on the console for any of the stuff to actually work. If you don’t do any of that, then you’re good. :)

  • GriffGB

“So, Major, if I don’t want facebook/twitter/etc on my 360, how will I disable it?”

It will more than likely be like the Messenger part. If you don’t use it, don’t sign in to it.

When does Facebook etc hit? November?

Whens the new Preview Program rolling out>

  • xZepher

You guys cant do anything right. Over priced games. Crappy updates that should have been out a year ago are breaking xboxs?

  • mik29

Working fine for me and friend. we both updated today, and then played OSDT. No probs

  • DragonYen

So it doesn’t even fix the problem that was introduced with the new dash, that if you play Yosumin Live on a console other than the one you bought it on, that it zeros your ENTIRE gamerscore, freaking you out. However if you log out and back in it fixes the problem.

  • MeS FEAR

i dont have any problems…even after install everything was okay :) this was a xbox live issue and not the update

  • ONI5

    HDMI 1.3?

  • wolfzero01

so does anyone know when the Brutal Legend demo will be available since I didn’t pre-order from Gamestop

  • padilla21 Live

cant wait for those enhancements to come!

  • MACPH1ST0

@ wolfzero01: I got pre-order access to the Brutal Legend demo, and the code card says “you now have exclusive 1-week early access to the Brutal Legend demo”. So since the pre-order demo access went live on 9/17, the demo should be going public tomorrow. It’s pretty fun too! The gameplay is a bit simplistic (just basic combos and some vehicle driving), but Tim’s writing and Jack’s improv more than make up for it. Unfortunately there’s no multiplayer in it though – I was hoping to get a taste of that since I’ve been hearing good things about it. This game also has without a doubt the coolest main game menu I’ve ever seen! (done with real-life video)

  • HighDef Edition

My console accepted the ‘update’ and all systems are good.

Im currently updating my music-tags on LAST.FM in preparation of the launch on Xbox. So instead of using my PC I will use my 360 with my my surround sound system to stream my fave music. I can’t wait.

  • mik29

there is multiplayer on Brutal Legend, did you not complete the demo?, there is a trailer at the end that shows multiplayer.

  • Endeavor41

Man, This is a ridiculous amount of wining. I just came here to see what the update was and there is nothing but complaining. Go outside for a minute or read a book. Xbox Live is a premium service and gives us enough for the rare mishap. Its not the end of the world. And yes this is my first post. :)

  • wolfzero01

MACPH1ST0 thanks for the info, I’ve been looking forward to trying it out

  • Adam6006

I was wondering what the update was for. NO issues with mine. Xbox Live always up and running!

  • Warrengonline

    @GriffGB
Funny you should say that…. My FaceBook friends are starting ‘MySpace’ my area with apps – I visit FaceBook far than I’d like to admit, but I stumbled upon something that might interest you. Log into your FaceBook account, then go to Account>Application Settings. Then choose SHOW: Allowed to Post (dropdown menu) and scroll to the VERY bottom. I did not change any of my settings, but I think if you want to, you can disable it. I hope we can some how divide the gamers and the non-gamers.

  • MACPH1ST0

@mik29: Yes I know there’s multiplayer in the final version of Brutal Legend. I was referring to how there isn’t any part of it playable in the demo. The gameplay in the demo is single-player only.

  • EdwinFitzgerald

updating last night. 5 minutes after in the middle of Ultimate Alliance 2 it froze up. 5 minutes after that 3 RRoD…Hopefully I’m still under warranty. Lame!

  • goweb

“Major-any news on the SKY TV thing and when its coming to the UK?”

An article in October’s Sky Movies magazine says October.

If the article is accurate then I’d assume that the other services are likely to launch at the same time.

  • MercyTillDeath

i have reason to believe this update is connected to the ODST leak

  • SpaceNinjaDino

This update fixed an issue for me (I’m the only one I know of with this issue). My game library section was stuck to an old 2006 list and nothing new that I played would show up in the recently played list. After the update, the recently played list works as expected now. Thank you! I think an engineer fixed a rare null pointer exception.

  • Philmob22

I’ve been on the phone with Xbox Live now for about 2hrs. I still can’t get on Xbox Live. I don’t know what they did or what’s going on with my Xbox. I could connect to live just fine before this crappy update.

  • ZombieMMMBrains

Anyone still having a problem? If so how’d you fix it?

For me, once the update has started it’ll give me the error message “Update Failed Can’t download the update, open System Settings and select Network Settings, Test Xbox LIVE Connection ” So i do that and everything will look fine and when it gets to test the Xbox Live Connection the bar will go about half way then the same update will pop up, fail….. and repeat the process. I have no idea what to do.

  • Philmob22

Okay, after being on the phone with Xbox Live for 3.5hrs (of which 1.5hrs was speaking with reps)they had me format my hard drive and that seemed to get the update to work. Of course I lost my stages on different games and had to start over I’m just happy it’s online now. The interesting part was the last guy I spoke with said that my gamertag was active in the system but not reaching their server, wtf is that all about?

  • TES7769

Do we REALLY need either Facebook OR Twitter available via XBL?! Both aren’t only just trendy(they’ll fall out of popularity as fast as they appeared), and not really somethign the average gamer or XBL/360 user will have much if any use for.Alot of us have ben asking for a BROWSER for a long time that would be far, far more useful and make alot more sense.Someone could even access Facebook/Twitter through the browser if for whatever strange reason they may have.

  • Fingleberries

Seriously, though. Would you really want a browser on your console? Think of all the extra junk and temporary internet files that will start clogging up your HDD and you’ll need to defrag the disk to keep your loading times for games up.

    In general, no thanks …

Although I feel the same about Facebook / Twitter. A nice add-on for some users, but not for me (I can’t be bothered with them on PC either :-) )
