Demo, Marketplace By Larry Hryb, Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson

Meh, it was on sale for $30 a few days ago and I didn’t care. The ship has sailed on the GH franchise for me with World Tour.

  • OPT1CS

….. Legends of Rock is all I really need…..

  • Anonymous

I thought it was over done as well, bought it on a whim, glad I did, good game. But yes GH franchise does need to slow down a bit or they they’ll just dilute themselves out of business if they havn’t done so already.

  • MetalGearMax

Bravo to the genius who decided to make a demo where you can’t choose what song you want to play, you have to sit through the other songs before you can play one.

    Bravo!

    I rated it 1 star.

  • Azwethinkweiz12

Eh better late then never for a demo :/

  • Xebu

About time, I’ve long since given up on Guitar Hero (barring the odd giveaway, got GH:WT new for <$15) but had heard good things about 5.

Anybody know what the 3 tracks are though?

  • MetalGearMax

Xebu, the 3 tracks are Kryptonite, A-Punk and Rock Show.
You can’t choose what one you want to play, they’re on an endless loop so you have to wait for a song to cycle back if you wanna play it again.

I am happy with GH5, but it was knocked down from the pedastal pretty quickly by the Beatles and NHL10 for me. I will revisit soon, but I want more exports from other GH games.
In Rock Band, I either play the Beatles, or everything else (Im up to 600+ songs.) If I want to play GH, I have to figure out which game the song I want to play is in, and often don’t bother.
This is definitely a good game, I like what they did to the tour. I like the sustain notes with other simultaneous notes, and I honestly think 5 is great practice for Van Halen.

  • MeS FEAR

everyone can choose what one he wants to play! just join a song and then press the start while the song is running..there you have the option song. ;) ppl should press the start button until they comment and give wrong information

  • CDN Crockett

You know in the ‘free’ wardrobe there was the American Football jersey and then they added Baseball and World Football jersey.

Well my question is when are they going to add the 2 Canadian sports!!!

    HOCKEY and
    BASKETBALL (yes basketball is Canadian)

I want a free Xbox hockey jersey!!!!!!!!!!!!!! With the number 4 or 99.

  • MeS FEAR

    the message was for MetalGearMax

  • CochransLac

Mes Fear is right about that. When i first played i was like wth is up with this ? Then i hit pause and saw where you can choose between three songs anytime you want.Anyways i still think the demo sucked.

  • Mike Kelehan

World Tour was an awful game, but I really enjoyed GH5. It’s no Rock Band 2, but it’s worth the asking price.

  • Sly Jon

Can’t believe this franchise is still milking away!

  • uRBAN jAMAican

does anyone know how to play with the guitar in this game? All it’s allowing me to do is sing through my xbox live mic!! Help please

  • DRO Demon X

i do i have played them all feel to and ill teach u how

  • uRBAN jAMAican

when i say the guitar..im referring to playing the role of a guitarist with the controller. its not letting me. i dont have a guitar. does it prevent you from playing the guitarist role without a guitar?

  • DRO Demon X

no the game is not set up like that any more

  • uRBAN jAMAican

so u cant play the guitar role if you dnt have a guitar?

  • Blue Thunder28

    Pretty nifty game.

  • Nissassa 17

You can choose the song, press start, go down to song and then select the one you want

  • oAssassin Xo

Guitar Hero sucks after GH3. Why? You can no longer use a controller. Mostly the younger gamers don’t understand what the big deal is but music games use to be about having fun. Frequency, Amplitude….etc. Suddenly you can no longer use a controller for music games. It defeats the purpose. Your probably asking if thats the only reason I use a controller. No:
    .
    .
    1. These accs. for the GH/Rock Band games are expensive and go often. My controller is not some special thing required for the game.
    .
    2. Sure the Guitar is easy to play but frankly it feels and looks stupid. If I want a guitar I’ll use the real thing. Anyone that uses this and thinks they are a real guitar god is lame.
    .
    3. Music is something that unites everyone. Yet now music games separate people because companies won’t allow controllers in the mix anymore.
    .
So overall GH/Rock Band have failed in my opinion. They are at this point just milking the cash cow by constantly releasing new games/DLC/Instrument versions. If they cared anything about gamers as a whole they would include controller use again for music games. LONG LIVE FREQUENCY/AMPLITUDE!

Gave up on the whole GH franchise when they started charging you for full games just to get some decent artists added to your collection. I’ll never buy another.

  • RageKage657

Why can’t they just pump out DLC tracks? I mean, GH1 came out in 2005 and this is what they’ve done in 4 years
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guitar_Hero#List_of_games

    15 damn games.

  • EveofLight

I only have GHWT and I think I’m sticking to that one. A friend lent me GH Metallica and its collecting dust. My older brother said 5 was ok but WT was where they should have stopped. I may buy it but after a few months and when the price goes down.

You can switch the songs, you just have to stop playing and look around for it. :\

  • Warrengonline

    @Mike Kelehan
GHWT isn’t an awful game, ‘Ease of Use’ is awful when you try to play it at parties, but I enjoyed the character creator just a little more than Rock Band 1&2′s character creator. As for Beatles, love’em their music rocks and is legendary, but I was/am upset I can’t dress them up or modify the characters, nor can I import the songs into RB2 (even for a price). Beatles into RB2 via DLC is very welcomed, I feel that licensing issues prevent that. DJ Hero seems fresh and something new. I’ll be keeping an eye on that one. Though eJay and KORG-10 DS are more my amateur level.

    @TidalPhoenix
I think that is what is bugging me about music games. Putting a ‘cap’ of ‘limited’ on an unlimited source. The Rock Band Network may just change all of that.

  • BeeDizz

RageKage657– Don’t forget Guitar Hero 1 and 2 were done by Harmonix. Who now does Rockband, of which only 2 have been released. Activision got Red Octane and the Guitar Hero name. GH 3 was decent but i could tell the series went from being done by music fans (Harmonix), to money fans (Activision).

Guitar Hero has done nothing but steadily decline ever since. To me, Rockband feels like you’re playing a game to the music. Guitar Hero feels like a button mashing game with music in the background. I continued to give Guitar Hero a try with the HOPE that they would improve on the game. They get worse and worse, (except Metallica), and i’ve given up on the franchise. So much so, that i didn’t even order my free Van Halen.

  • UnarmedGorilla

Meh… I got the feeling like I had already played this game before… It was a fun little novelty back in the GH2-3 days, but I’m really starting to not care about these games as much anymore.

  • SlayerElite18

    I have t

  • SlayerElite18

I have the feeling that we will be seeing a Guitar Hero 10 before it’s all over with. Much like Final Fantasy, Guitar Hero is becoming an “over-juiced” franchise..

  • doomsoth

My friend rented this game and it was mediocre at best. The set list could have been better.

  • AngelAzrael1977

    Better late than never… :P

  • Djizasse

I don’t get what you all are complaining about.

This demo is excellent. No delving though the menus just to play one song. Just choose how easy you want to play, guitar or bass and you’re ready.

Pressing the start button only stops your play, not the music, I think this is superb. And if a friend wants to join you he just joins, no need to restart the song.

The song’s loop is great, I don’t have to choose another song, I just play and play and play. There’s no pauses, no menu selection.

This is by far the best GH demo that ever appeared on XBox Live. I will buy this game.
