Xbox 360 Games On Demand By Larry Hryb, Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson

  • The Dukenator

ok, that’s funny. I heard that, you couldn’t play this online against anyone over Live. Maybe they fixed it this time.

  • VIGOR MORTIVORE

30 dollars vs 30 euros, big difference.

  • buglang

Not available in Portugal… Oh that is so good for me! And then they wonder they people move to the PS3.

  • Oatmeal25

$30? huh? Shouldn’t this come free with a box of cereal?

  • clarky456

Major with your marketplace links it would be helpful if in the future you remove the “en-US/” from the links. This would mean people outside the US who click on the links will go to xbox.com for their region.

    example

    http://marketplace.xbox.com/games/media/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d8024541086F/?of=7

Will take me to the GB Xbox.com.

  • clarky456

Ignore my last post my browser was doing weird and wonderful things.

  • erichsouza76

30 bucks for a game that could be a simple XBLA game? Whoa…impressive.
    And, thanks…but no, thanks.

  • Pemalite

    Pass…

Would have been nice if New releases were available on Games on Demand, I would be all for grabbing a copy of Modern Warfare 2.

Living in a country area limits the games I can purchase from a “Store” – as there is simply no way I am driving 8 hours to pick a game up.

  • Mike Kelehan

MS would love to have new releases as Games on Demand. Gamestop and Wal-Mart would not. Since MS needs them to sell you the hardware in the first place, that’s how it has to be for now.

As for this game, I’m never the guy to complain about pricing… but, for Monopoly, $10 definitely, $20 maybe, $30 no way. A Monopoly board is $10.

  • LittleBlueAlien

So Larry….still like your job? Really?
Wouldn’t it be better to live before the walls cave in?

  • Pemalite

    @Mike Kelehan

    Walmart isn’t in Australia.

As for Gamestop, never seen or been to one of those stores, not sure they exist here or not.

Otherwise, I couldn’t care what the Game retailers think, They won’t be getting my money either way. ;)

  • r3dreck

    ha

  • JohnnyDethmatch

@The Dukenator – nothing on there says anything about XBox Live. “Hosting” things happens in real life too you know. ;) The ‘global’ version means the landmarks are from around the world.

Unless you got suckered into buying it and noticed it has XBox live now, then I feel bad for you. :(

  • Anonymous

I curious to know what bomberman is going for in Japan, concidering it goes for $5 new at gamestop. My guess is MS is charging $30 for it also.

  • The Dukenator

@JohnnyDethmatch I never bought or played it. I usually avoid games that would cause me to get suckered into buying only to find out it sucked.

  • theuglyteradon

Go Directly To Jail… because it’s criminal how much they are expecting people to shovel out for the sake of convenience. I think Microsoft needs to take the hint and work on this program, before it falls flat on its face.

  • zfair899

Surprised by the sever lack of Monopoly puns ITT

Anyway, this is the worst-priced game-on-demand yet. Not impressed with this service at all

  • ElektroDragon

To all the haters, this is an excellent game, especially in local multiplayer. No, it doesn’t have Live play. Big deal. I bought this for full price ages ago and am happy with my purchase. I highly recommend it.

  • Ark Hunter

{spits Coke out nose} $30!? This should be on XBLA for $10 or less. If it’s the one I’m thinking of the guys over at OXM said it’s the worst implementation of Monopoly ever.

  • HenkvdWeerdt

Got this game for 20€ on disc. A Nice game for scoring some easy achievments.

  • THE MIGHTY FINN

£19.99 for a board game on a console. Do I have mug written on my forehead. OH, I know lets give all our money to M$ so they can spank it like the Ferrari boys. I think M$ should apply to be a bank if it needs more money as governments seem to be giving it all away to them.

I will never buy a game on demand cause I’m smart. !!!!!

  • Veive257

The description says “Host the ultimate MONOPOLY party with family and friends” and the manual says “XBOX LIVE® Play anyone and everyone, anytime, anywhere on Xbox LIVE®.”

..but there is no online play? That’s terribly misleading. Bad M$. Bad.

  • WinterSnowblind

@buglang: I’m still wondering, maybe you can explain it to me? If something is unavailable in certain countries, it’s usually because of copyright issues. It’s not going to be any different on the PS3, and if you think it is perhaps you should take a lot at the weekly PSN updates for Europe compared to the US.. and then compare that to Japans. If anything, I think Euro PS3 users should be coming over to the 360.

  • Anonymous

lolol £19 for that junk, when i can pick it up for a fiver ? lmfao

  • StammyFi

    ROFL! 30 euros for Monopoly?

  • doomsoth

You’ve got to be kidding me! $30! LMAO!

  • foxhunt99

    Price is not right

  • Choxieota Tsioc

Where’s the XBLA version? 30 bucks for a board game is ridiculous.

  • OSKAR1983

When are you gonna Fix the pricing Issues between regions. This game costs the equivalent of 51$. Thats not fair in any way.

  • enanenes

    Another no Portugal feature :P

  • VEGEMITE 98

@Pemalite, Walmart is basically a combination of BIG-W and K-Mart together but with guns! and GameStop is Electronic Boutique EBGames!

@Major Nelson, could you please tell your finanical superiors that the world does NOT evolve around your weak US dollar, as the moment i am typing your dollar is 92.75. so basically 1 US dollar is 92.75c AU so therefore converting the $30US asking price for Monopoly is roughly $32.75, BUT we are paying $60 for this.

it’s nad enough we have to pay $119.95 RRP for a full release game, then you release games on your GOD service. wake up and stop ripping us off.

  • MyJewlzHurt

    $34.99 CDN……is MS crazy? should’ve been an XBLA title. Again, I’ll pass….

  • RuairiAU

AUS$49.99 (US$46) here in Australia, US$29.99 in America. Who comes up with these regional prices? Has it just become acceptable to rip Australians off?

BTW Modern Warfare 2 – standard edition EB Games: AU $119 (US$111)

    We are getting shafted!!

  • XxLightkunxX

Larry, how can you seriously work at Microsoft and NOT even bother to try to speak up over this load of bile? This is highway robbery. If this keeps up MS may be looking at themselves with a huge lawsuit for the crap they put us through. I have no idea from who, but we consumers won’t stand for sh*t like this.

  • Exu

Also noticed that in the UK you can get Crash of the Titans HAHAHA WHY WOULD YOU EVEN CARE THAT GAME IS TERRIBLE

  • EveofLight

ಠ_ಠ WTF is MS thinking? Yeah this one will be a PASS for me as all games on demand.

  • Rick Dias PK

XxLightkunxX: While I agree this situation is completely absurd, your legal threat/implication seems misplaced. I’m pretty sure there is no valid ground for a lawsuit as you would have to provide reasonable belief that Microsoft has HARMED you in order for this to work. Merely offering things at insane prices does not count, for the same reason you can’t sue the boy running a lemonade stand when he opts to charge $100 a glass. Your recourse in the lemonade case is to not buy the $100 lemonade, no harm done to you, no profit to the kid running it. Same deal here with Monopoly, MS could offer it at $1,000,000 and you still wouldn’t be hurt by their insanity, just amazed.
We may be a litigious culture here in the U.S., but I’m almost certain threats like this carry no real weight to them. Consumers protest ridiculous prices by not buying the item in question and/or supporting their competitors instead (“vote with your wallet”), not uselessly trying to sue the merchant who has the right to offer their wares at whatever (reasonable or insane) price they like.

  • Gambit3rd

There is no way to have some nice Board Game here in Italy, uh?

    I feel like a dumb savage beast…

  • DavidGX

$30… wow… are you guys joking or something?

  • Geen82

I’m always amazed by the stupidity in Major Nelson’s comments section. If you don’t like it don’t buy it. I know it’s hard not to whine on the internet about it, but I’m sure you’ll learn to cope over time.

For anyone wondering about the Bomberman game that was released on the Japanese Marketplace, it is Bomberman Act:Zero (http://marketplace.xbox.com/ja-JP/games/offers/f0000001-0000-4000-8000-0000485507d1).

  • wolfzero01

are you serious, this is the Games on Demand choice for the week?? & for $30?? what a joke

  • stststststq

I’m sure the publishers had more of a say in the pricing of Games on Demand titles than MS. The situation is just the same on PSN. There’s just less of a choice and only a couple of full games to download. It won’t stop the serial moaners from whining about the price of a game they would never have bought anyway though. lol. You have a choice to buy games on disc or via download. If the price of the download is too high, get the disc, then you have a physical item that you can sell if you don’t like, lend out to friends etc. and it doesn’t constantly take up multiple GB of your hard drive. It’s not rocket science.

  • Tyrant Dunn

30 bucks for monoply? it should be more like ten dollars. Dead Space is a steal for 20 dollars. I thought Digital Downloads were supposed to be cheaper.

  • xZepher

    Once again..
