Arcade, Marketplace By Larry Hryb, Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson

  • Freaky Priest

I liked it on PC. But I won’t buy it again.

  • Xlrking

Again i dont know most of the current releases anyway, so im not really intrigued about these games that are out right now on the marketplace.

  • L0rN

I was really looking forward to this game, because I liked the very original Trailer. But now that I played it for about 10 Minutes….NO. Not worth 400 Points in my opinion.

  • NavComm81

I haven’t felt the need to buy an XBLA game since Splosion Man. I’ll take this if I can get it free, but that’s the only way.

  • rastansaga

nah, overpriced. when it’s deal of the week in a few months for 800 it’ll still be overpriced

  • Exu

You ask for too much, Microsoft. Bye bye Introversion, it was nice knowing you.

  • tabicat

More than 800 points? I’m not even going to download the demo. Sorry, Microsoft!

  • Dedatos

yeah it dosnt look too good…
thanks for sharing the info anways!

  • stststststq

lol@people not even trying a FREE demo. The comments on here never cease to amaze me.

  • Shadow0810

Wow people, if Perfect Dark is 1200 points you won’t download the demo either? IGN gave it an 8.9 and said it was one of the best XBLA games in a long time, 10 hour single player, multiplayer with 5 modes with bots? What do you people want? It’s 2 $15 dollar pc games packaged into 1 $15 xbla game. All these people who rail on a game without playing it because of its price are starting to piss me off. This game has more than some $60 games. Think about Terminator Salvation, 4 hour terrible single player no multiplayer. This has more than 2x the single player plus legitimately good multiplayer.

  • Sneeches

This looks like crap. I’ll be passing for sure

  • Skunk175

    Not interestd.

Major, let me know when something isn’t overpriced.

  • MLWW

Looks really fun and all, I liked the demo but I am not going to give 1200 ms points for it.

Sorry, but that’s just too expansive.

  • Exu

@Shadow0810 – That’s Perfect Dark, this is Darwinia (moar like Darfailia lolol). I agree that people should try before they (don’t) buy though. It’s only 65 meg after all.

  • Blue Thunder28

People on here are so annoying! This game was amazing, and has lots of content… looks like when I go buy points for the new Dragon Age DLC I’ll be getting 2800 instead of 1400 so I can buy this as well!! Amazing game..

  • Special C

Omg so overpriced. I can’t believe they want $15 for a $30 dollar PC game. 50% cheaper isn’t enough. it should be 47.3 MS Points!!!11

  • SumHydroponic

Demo was kinda cool but I will hold onto my points atleast until next week.

  • ElektroDragon

I tried this on the PC years ago and didn’t care for it. Poor choice for translation to XBLA. Where the heck is Bookworm Adventures and Zuma’s Revenge??

  • Shadow0810

To those trying this out, after doing the 2 single player, definitely try out multiwinia, my favorite part of the package.

  • Mike Kelehan

So it’s okay to spend $60 on 20 hours of fun, but not $15 for 10? I don’t get you people.

  • Anonymous

For a company trying to stay afloat by this game, you’d think they would have priced it at 800 points. I honestly dont see this doing well at 1200 points.

  • Z4M0

Nice game, hence the prizes it won… back when it was released. I do agree, it’s good, and it’s 2 games in one (Darwinia + Multiwinia) but still is overpriced. And it’s not cause the graphics or being old, is just the contents. Compare it to shadow complex in example, and you’ll get it. And there is no point defending so hard develores and microsoft like they were your pimps. 1200 being overpriced is as true as 400 would be hella cheap.

Besides, to all naysayers not giving it a try I’ll tell ‘em the game plays somewhat like the old pc games “cannon fodder” and “lemmings” mixed together with a geometry wars / tron twist to it.

I’ll be happy to get it at the corresponding deal of the week, when it will be 800 or 560. Oh, it has AVATAR AWARDS (now you’ll see part of the haters jumping in, lol) By the way, don’t have any spare points at the moment and this one won’t be the excuse to buy a 4200 card.

    Cheers.

  • DrDaveWatford

I used to enjoy reading the comments on the Major’s site, but now every thread seems to be dominated by people whining about something, usually the price of XBLA content.

Having played Darwinia on the PC and enjoyed it, I naively thought that there might be a few messages on here commenting on the gameplay, how it compares with the PC version, extra features etc.. How stupid of me – I now see all that matters is how many MS points it costs…..

  • Phantaxus

Thanks Introversion can we have an enhanced version of ‘Uplink’ next

  • TheOnlyIx2

Great game, bought it day1 (also bought the pc version when it came out, but didnt play that one enough), keep up the good work introversion.

I hear a lot of folks here complaining, and sure, it could have been 800msp but c´mon, this is a developer who has brought us uplink, darwinia and defcon and these are all really really great and unusual games that most developers wouldnt even try to make, and if they(introversion) alienate the 360 because of the long dev cycle on this game = no profit or if they go down on this, it would really be a shame. I´d love to see defcon for XBLA!

  • Der Archivar

    @DrDaveWatford
I notice this a too. The community here seems to be the complete opposite than the comunnity on the playstation blog. But I cannot take the constant *ss kissing about everything on the playstation blog seriously though.

About Darwinia+, Darwina+Multiwinia costs on Steam 15 Dollar too, so i see where the price is coming from. I guess for most of the younger ones is the kinda unique art style and the pretty simple playstyle at the beginning a huge turnoff.

I like it and i will support it.

There are very few XBLA titles, past, present or future, I’m willing to spend 1200+ points on. Perfect Dark is one. This one is not.
    .
The reason you see a lot of people complaining about prices of live arcade games lately is because for a long, long time they capped out at 800 points with only very exceptional games going above that price point. Now that they have raised the size limit of arcade titles, the average price of arcade games have jumped. Couple this with the fact that they’re in the process of trying to make us bend over even further and pay outrageous amounts for 15 to 30 year old games with the upcoming “Game Room” and I’d say the complaints are VERY justified.
    .
This is one of those titles which simply looks like a money grab, pushing the average price of arcade titles higher. Had this game come out a year and a half ago, it would have been 800 points and if Marathon came out today instead of years ago, they’d be trying to charge 1200+ points for it.

  • Der Archivar

I think some of us have a slightly distorted view of the 400/800 games past. Most of the arcade games in the first 2 years with the 400/800 price tag are nothing comparable to the games which came out the last 2 years. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Xbox_Live_Arcade_games and sort thru release year. Do we really want go back to this quality just to have an 800 price tag?

  • MACPH1ST0

@ defenders of this game: There’s no point in trying with this crowd. There’s always going to be be people stuck in the past who feel every new game should be 800 points or less (never mind the fact of how much bigger and more graphically intense Arcade games have gotten since that was the standard) and who can’t wrap their minds around a game being worth 1200 points unless it’s something overhyped like Castle Crashers or Battlefield 1943. Just do a search on here for Lode Runner for a prime example of that.

  • tbs0

    Cool game!

  • sleepydumbdude

Played the demo. Not positive if I like it 1200 msp worth. I have way to many games backlogged for the next two months. Night give it a go in the future again if its ever a deal of the week or I run out of games to play.

  • Tirkon

I’ve played the PC demo on both products wrapped into Darwinia+. When I played it on PC, I emailed Introversion, suggesting they look at XBLA, and they responded saying they were considering it. Man, it took a long time to get here. I almost said, nah, too late, I’ve got Halo Wars now, for my RTS fix, but I bought it anyway, considering I was one of the people calling for its port to XBLA.

My initial reaction is that I’m enjoying the gameplay and the story behind it. Helping these little innocent Tron like guys, against an invading virus. I’ve heard comparisons to Lemmings, but its not really the same kind of puzzle game that Lemmings was, and you like the Darwinian’s a little more, even if they’re a little less cute. The Squads you take direct control of seem a little harder to aim than they did on the PC, but its easier to queue up “programs”, and you get a generous zoom out if you want to get a good feel for the map.

I’m looking forward to getting a bit better and seeing how Multiwinia plays with some humans.

  • AARON82

i bought this game by accident today.click full game instead of trial, its held my attention for longer than red alert arcade, this is a simple great game,

  • I DLord I

$15? Really? I really hate KNOWING that this game could have easily been $5 cheaper(and to some of us, yea that is enough to stop a purchase) but someone wanted to nickel and dime us to death. Just because you CAN charge $15 does not mean you SHOULD. For the love of everything good and holy do NOT make 1200 the new 800. I am sure that it is too late.

My only point is DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND HOW MANY MORE PEOPLE WOULD BUY THIS GAME IF IT WAS CHEAPER?
(also avatar clothing, Games on Demand, ect)

Fix your pricing strategy, it is a broken record, someone needs to reset the needle.

  • Sonic Alpha

Fantastic game. I have the PC version, and I’m glad I went for the XBLA version too. Such a pity it doesn’t seem to be getting the attention it deserves.

@Phantaxus Uplink on the 360? Yes please! However, half of the missions would require a chatpad/keyboard ;)
