Batman: Arkham Asylum 75% off sale

Batman: Arkham AsylumFrom Friday, February 26th through Monday March 1st you will be able to purchase the award winning game Batman: Arkham Asylum for 75% off through Games on Demand on Windows. Plus, each weekend in March will bring a new discounted Games on Demand title. I’ll post a note on my Twitter account each Friday to let you know what G4W- LIVE title is on sale that weekend.

Remember you’ll need to download the free Games for Windows – LIVE client and when you purchase games within the client you can use either points or credit cards.

Edit: Yes, this offer will be available in all regions where Games on Demand are supported.

P.S. After you’ve got the client installed, you’ll also want to grab the free game Tinker, which also has 200 Gamerscore that you can get…for free.

Deal By Larry Hryb, Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson

  • Sogeman

Aren’t there only like 7 games. That special will be over real soon then ^^

  • tbs0

    sweet :)

  • zfair899

Cool deal. Sure sucks that its only PC though :(

  • rsra13

    Monday February 29th?

    What year? ;)

  • Major Nelson

Date corrected and yes, this is ano offer tht at will be available in all supported regions.

  • Gvaz

That seems decent, $13 USD or so isn’t that bad for an average game.

  • onemorechanc

Great news … I was thinking of buying this game!

Do you take requests? I would like to get “Halo 2″ for the PC …

  • halo3dog

What 200 Point’s For tinker you must mean 175 That you can only get. Anyways back on topic I wish i had a better pc to run pc games but great deal :)

  • Shack70

Nice! I’ve been looking to get Batman:AA. Ill play PC version over X-Box for $13 :)

  • PrismSub7

    Tinker only gives 175 Gamerscore:P

  • darkjester74

$13 is a good deal, looking forward to what else goes on sale. (Keeps fingers crossed for DIRT2)

  • moocow21

Very nice deal, I’ll most definitely pick this up. Looks like GFWL wants to start competing with Steam, at least as far as deals go. Now if only Xbox Live actually had these good of deals…

  • halo3dog

Now they need to get a bigger library of games, ditch the installing of them and kill some of the prices on the arcades :)

  • Xssassin

Boring, bring on the sale for GoD for XBOX!

  • rogXue

wow, this may get me back into pc gaming. I’ve had a monster sitting in my computer room waiting for too long for this

  • modemman11

Yeah, I’d buy it if it was on the xbox and not PC.

  • Anonymous

Too bad I already own it….
But good to see PC is getting love.
    PC is better than consoles.

  • Skunk175

Hey Major, there’s been a glitch in Tinker for a while now that prevents one you from getting the Perfection achievement.

Can you get that fixed? :)

  • DePetri

Halo 2: Vista really should be available through this service.

  • TaygetaVendetta

Major – Tell them to start having sales like this on Games On Demand for Xbox360 and you’ll have yourselves some new customers. I’d definitely get Batman AA on the 360 for that price.

  • SideWinder 24×7

@Sogeman actually there are over 20 games in the Games on Demand Library :) And more games get added as we go.

  • Sgt TEDDYBEAR

I just checked the client and it still says the AA is 49.99 on it. I was gonna get it when I heard about this, but seems it’s not working. :/

  • BrooksterMax

This is very interesting, a very good price point and you can count me in. Maybe more competition in the PC market so you make this kind of offer?

  • MajorMask

    @TEDDYBEAR:
Friday, February 26th through Monday March 1st

  • SideWinder 24×7

Note that the sale starts tomorrow, not today.

  • KazamaSogetsu

Awesome, but you guys should support more regions :(

  • Sgt TEDDYBEAR

    @MajorMask
    @SideWinder 24×7
Ah, yeah. Thanks for that. Time to go get more sleep then.

  • VERMITHRAXDRAGO

I agree with some of the others – how ’bout the same love for the 360? Remember, parents shouldn’t favor one kid over the other ;)

  • Whetzel

If this was for the 360 I would definitely buy it, but I really don’t game on my PC much. My PC is more than capable of playing games, but why play on a 23″ monitor when I can play on an 84″ projector? And I know I can connect my PC to my projector. I actually have a PC connected to it already, but it’s not fast enough to do any serious gaming on and I don’t want to drag my other PC into the theater room just to game on.

  • Joergen8

Aaaw, wake me up when these are for Xbox Live.

  • CaptainCaterpie

This is more like it MS! Top quality game (so I hear) at a very competitive price ($13, £8, €9, should be something like that). Really starting to head in the right direction now… it’s better than all these $20/£15 games which are all attainable at a fiver in the shops.

Shame it’s not 360, but if MS carries on like this, digital sales will begin to go through the roof. MS will have more respect, for not ripping off their fans that don’t have an unlimited gaming budget.

  • MadDog Murdoch

Boo. Who plays on PC anymore? Last PC game I played was the last Doom game that came out a few years back. When I can get my buttery gaming goodness on my big TV in the family room, the little PC monitor seems wimpy in comparison….

Would buy it for $15 on the XBox though….. One of those titles I might get into at a discount, but $60 is too much (expecially since I am still playing Mass effect 2 and the other games I got at Christmastime…..)

Ah, plus Live Arcade has got that Threefer + Game Room so I’m gonna be preoccupied. Anxious to see how Perfect Dark holds up after all these years…..

  • Sogeman

The question is: When exactly will the price get changed. I hope it’s changed when I wake up :)

  • Sogeman

@CaptainCaterpie I hope it’s only 10€/800 points. Really shouldn’t be more, that would be a rip-off if it’s just the US price with a new currency.

  • seldinhio

OK, now this is what I’m talking about. No BS 500kr or whatever it is in $,£ or E:s. But the funny thing now is that I don’t know what to believe anymore. Did MS lover the price on these games because on gamers demand or was it to knulla around with us in the first place? I don’t know, but I sure am glad to see some cuts on the price. Keep it rolling!

  • Z3

To bad it has GFWL activation limits and no GFWL has revoke tool. I wonder if this one also securom activation limits as well two sets of DRM make this a no go for me.

    Posted from a Droid

  • Sogeman

@SideWinder 24×7 Maybe in the US, here there are only 13. But since it’s only March anyway, it doesn’t matter

  • RuairiAU

    meh…
I gave up on PC gaming a long time ago; cant be bothered constantly upgrading, downloading drivers, tinkering with settings, playing on a tiny screen yada yada yada.

  • DiatomicMaster

    Lol. PC.

  • AutomaticOcelot

Definitely going to nab this one and go for a TRIPLE S-RANK (aka complete point mastery on 3 platforms).

Major, I’ll get that 200 Tinker gamerscore once you do, deal? ;)

  • ZhaxRa

Does GWL support gifting like Steam does? At this price, I would love to get it as presents for friends that won’t break the pocketbook.

  • bknight2k

Now if only Game of Demand for the 360 would have deals like this.

  • P Dot Kr00k

Very cool deal I wish it was for the 360 as well but still a good price.

  • lzAvol

Great news, the only problem in that message is…

You CAN’T earn 200 gamerscore in Tinker, since it’s bugged.

  • TehBanStick

13 bucks for some gamerscore? Tough decision…
Definitely heard good things about this game.

  • BrooksterMax

ah man, I am still interested but I see its a 8GB file according to GFWL. With a 1mbit connection I am going have to wait a bit!

Looking forward to getting it though.

  • Macdory

    It’s now Tomorrow, Today :p

And still the price hasn’t altered on the UK store.

  • tossetaz

Same for the Danish store – same price which is roughly 30£

  • Shack70

It’s still full price here, I’ll have to check back later.

  • GregLeg

VERY tempting, but I’m hesistant to buy GFWL titles right now because there’s an issue with achievements not synching from 64-bit XP machines (several of us have raised the issue on the GFWL forums, and not gotten a clear answer)

  • Sogeman

Price is still not updated. :( (I also expect it to cost 15€ here, just because it’s MS.)

  • dirty whirlwind

I might just get it. Arkham Asylum was such an awesome game that it indeed deserves two spots on my Gamercard.

  • N3

Oh I’m all over this. So it’s the 26th, anyone one know what time the price change will actually happen? I need to get this bad boy downloaded before my lunch break… ;) Also anyone know if PC B:AA supports the 360 controller.

  • erichsouza76

The Microsoft intern forgot to change the price…wake up the damn boy!!!

  • Macdory

The comms from MS really do suck balls – I appeciate that MN is just the messenger, but you look at the PSN website and you get a far more professional view to teh world than this. It’s just a faceless company, hiding behind a very tired website.

MS makes millions/billions of $ from us, the paying public and yet they can;t even be bothered to communicate with us regarding their promotions, etc.

  • Radical R

its still £34.99 in uk :( also does this game work on win 7? as it says xp and vista compat on the site but no mention of win 7.

  • I2ndShenanigans

yes its compatible with win 7

  • azjaffo

Still shows $49.99 – when will it take effect?

  • Ron Fiasco

I’m in the US and it still shows the $49.99 price in the Games for windows client. Is there something I’m missing?

  • R2K SpitFire

Microsoft is slacking today! Hey major, why don’t you swing on by them guys at games for windows and give em all some coffee. Sounds like they need a pick-me-up. :)

  • mik29

How come Batman still wants £34.99 to buy it?, has the offer started yet?

  • mik29

just read “SideWinder 24×7″ comment, never mind. thanks

  • Sogeman

It is online now. Too bad they just changed the Currency symbol from $ to €. I’d rather have the real conversion rate ^^

  • Sogeman

Also if you pay in Euro, use Microsoft Points. It’s slightly cheaper than real money.

  • Y0 AFRO

We’ll they’re starting to admit PC gaming is dead. I think it’ll take a little bit more of a deal than a $12 Arkham Asylum to revert me to buying PC games.

  • Exu

£8.75 in the UK. Great price, not sure how much in MSP. The checkout’s still reading at £waytoomuch.

  • Radical R

@I2ndShenanigans thanks for the compat details. hmm the gfw client is advertising the reduced batman now but its just redirecting to bioshock 2 on the advert XD. also its still £34.99 if u go to the catalog price. :(

  • Radical R

just refreshed its ok now :)

  • Radical R

ok im confused :S. it says £8.75 on the download page but once i go to pay it says £34.99 again!!! :@ is that just me? or everyone else? :’(

  • DeviousChainsaw

It’s finally updated, purchased and downloading :)

  • mccalejk

They should put a warning on this game because it’s like crack. :)

  • twisted poke

Good deal I guess. No interest in PC gaming for me though. This deal makes the 25 percent off Avatar gear deal seem even more pitiful.

  • mik29

How come when i click on the £8.75 batman offer, it still tries to charge £34.99???

  • onemorechanc

I am in Canada, and the price on the main page is showing $12.49. However, when I get to the confirm purchase screen it goes back to $49.99. Why? Is the deal not live yet?

  • Sogeman

Didnt have that problem. But I have to say, Digital Distribtion does not equal Convenience for me. Waiting for that 7,5 GB to download is a pain.

  • tossetaz

    Very tempting!

  • Radical R

its finally working! :) pay with msp and it only costs the equivalent of £7.99 guys!

  • Ganon255

Taking FOREVER to download. The servers are sloooooooooooooooow.

  • Jaymo1978

Hey Major, any response on the issue about the WRONG version of Bonfire of the Vanities being a “Featured Download” on the dashboard? For people who clicked the Ad in the dashboard, we were given the cheaper, incomplete version, only to find out later that there were two versions, and the more expensive one (with three extra locations) was mentioned NO WHERE on the dashboard (OR in the description of the DLC to which we were directed.) Now people who want to download those extra locations will have to pay the 560, when they’ve already paid 320, essentially double-paying for half of the content.

There are a LOT of people complaining about this same thing on the forums. I just looked to see if maybe they had made the three extra locations available as a separate download: it’s not, and NOW the “Featured” version is the FULL 560 point version. I can only assume this was changed because so many people are complaining about it on Ubi.com and the Xbox.com forums. Seems kind of shady to change it now and basically screw the people who were misled to the cheaper download….

BTW, I would post this comment on an AC-themed post, but there wasn’t a post made on here when the Bonfire DLC released, so I’m hoping to catch your attention on the more recent posts, even though it’s O/T. Thanks for any light you can shed.

  • TehBanStick

Not trying to flame, but lol@everybody bitching that this is for PC and other negative comments.

  • moocow21

Ended up buying it. Took a while to download & install, but the game runs very well on my 2+ year old laptop (which was mid-range when I bought it!). Looks just about as good as it did on Xbox.

  • mik29

sorted, just bought it. happy times

  • onemorechanc

Looks like the problem with pricing was fixed for me, and it is downloading now. Thanks again!

  • Ganon255

Running it with all the settings set to the highest except for the AA with I have at 8x. Looks and plays great with an average frame-rate of 45fps. I can’t wait to get some time with it. Running it on an Intel 2.83GHz quad, 4GB RAM, and a GTX 260(Core 216), on Windows 7 Pro 64bit. It looks so good, it makes me yearn for the next gen consoles, I can’t wait to see what they can do. I’ll be ready for the Xbox 720 by 2012 M$.

  • UKresistance

Wow, first time MS ever does a truly awesome deal, and it is PC only.

  • SnoopDope

tempting but my old PC wouldn’t be able to play it.

lol, M$ isn’t doing this sale only for PC because too many suckers are buying the overpriced 360 GoD games.

  • Macdory

They need more Hamsters for their servers – i’ve been downloading for over 4 hours now and it’s still only 63% complete – only getting 2.5 meg d/l speed

Good to see that MS isn’t taking their digital service too seriously – the world needs to be more fun :p

  • Radical R

anyone wondering if it will work or not i suggest going to www. canyourunit .com

-note it will say not compat with win 7 but it actually is. (but the site will tell u if ur cpu and stuff will work. especially if u have a dual core pc and not sure (e.g. my 2ghz dual core offers 3.3ghz in effect. the site will tell u this)

  • JoJoStarFire

This totally out of topic, but what happened to joyride, and that’s it on the Avatar Awards?

  • Ark Hunter

Are there achievements in the PC version? I’d guess so sense it’s GFW and on 360.

  • moocow21

    @Ark Hunter
Yep, the achievements are the same as in the 360 version. The cool thing is that you can get achievements for both versions on your gamerscore (I rented the 360 version a while back and just bought the PC version on this deal). :)

  • oAssassin Xo

I’m split on all this. I kinda want these deals for 360 but at the same time the HD is to small even at 120gigs. And as for PC I have to man questions like when you download it is it an actual file that you can reinstall at any time? Like can I put this file on a disc so lets say a year from now I have to reformat I can simply pop in my disk and reinstall the game? Or is this along the lines of like on 360 where its some DRM junk and you can only install through Windows Live.
If thats the case I’d just by the game on disc so I have a copy that I can always access. I just don’t feel safe unless I can access my software at all times.

  • AK46 Guerriero

My brother and I have different gamertags, so if I bought this could be both play it just like arcade games for the 360? Thanks for the info in advance.

  • wow bane2000

As cheap as this is, I have had nothing but trouble with it and I feel that I hae wasted a lot of time and MS points! It has taken in excess of 10 hours to download only to get stuck at 100% (I know!) and it is unable to install correctly. I have looked at other forums and followed advice there but still no game play! I think that this is the first and last time I bother with Games for Windows. It is too much hassle for something that should be simple. I never have issues with steam, ever.

Downloading again to see if that resolves all the issues. What a pain and another 10 plus hours of waiting! So much for games on demand!

  • seldinhio

Downloading slow. Almost not worth it. Takes a lifetime to download. They should take a lock at Steam. Thats the superior game delivery service on the PC. After the new Steam update the GFW client is light years after. Like PSN and Live.

  • Ganon255

@ AK46 Guerriero – I believe the answer is no.

  • Ganon255

@ AK46 Guerriero – I believe the answer is no.

  • Yukon Cornelius

Ugh, killing me not to get this, when my 360 version is still untapped. Curses to all those great games from October onwards that bled my credit card dry!!! :-(

  • nate22692

This is a great deal. Let the GFWL team know they’re headed in the right direction. Keep doing sales like this and Steam might have some serious competition in the future.

  • nmg82

You should fix your post Major, you can’t get 200 points from Tinker, and I’d be shocked for them to ever patch it. That’s one of the MANY inexcusable problems with GFWL games (there’s all kinds of achievement problems), but it is a great deal on Batman (which I did snatch up and am LOVING)…

  • optimus major

    This game is great
