Dash Text: Split/Second is an intense arcade racing game set within the universe of a mega-budget, prime-time reality TV show. Contestants race to be the 1st across the finish line in a made-for-TV city built for destruction, with the ultimate goal of becoming the season champion. The city is rigged to blow and you’re in control of the action – bridges will fall, buildings will be reduced to clouds of dust and cars blown to pieces – devastating explosions will decimate your rivals and rip apart the track, creating new routes and challenging obstacles. Explosive stunts, demolition and balls-out racing thrills combine to create the ultimate high-octane racing experience! Buckle up…it’s about to get explosive out there!

Demo, Marketplace By Larry Hryb, Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson

  • Xbox Sonic

Thank you Larry! Just pre-ordered my copy.

  • Enkeixpress

Thanks Major.. I’ll take a look at it! :)

  • Enkeixpress

Wow Xbox Sonic, You’ve pre-ordered? … You’ve done wrong, If I was you.. I’d cancel right away. This game is nothing more than a rental, my friend. :D

  • chiruno99

Pre-ordered even before the demo. I’m impressed with the game already, especially the ability to change the course route with the help of explosives and even better to wreck anyone whilst doing so.

  • Shadow0810

Blur does seem to be much better than this game. And they come out at around the same time. This seems like maybe a rent to me.

  • El Capitaine

Played this at PAX EAST, and I like it way more than Blur. If I had money, I’d preorder haha

  • BeeDizz

I liked this much more than Blur. Although neither has impressed me enough for a purchase. Blur was just no fun at all to me. And while Split Second was fun, it has no sense of speed. Both are racing games with their own little gimmick thrown in to mix things up. Unfortunately, the racing part of these racing games aren’t much fun.

    @ Major Nelson

This would run even better from a SSD drive. Lets get that option for an upcoming 360 SKU!!! The ability to use our own super fast drives in place of the current laptop 5,400 RPM POS drives! They are so 2001!

Game runs fine as is, but why not have it run better. Just saying! :p

  • sleepydumbdude

Hope I like it. Like the videos for it so far and was going to wait for a demo or to rent it before I decided to purchase. Can’t wait to get home to play it.

  • AMT

    Wait just a dang minute:

    Split Second the game….SSD…..Split Second Drives…which 360 doesn’t have…..yet.

Solid State Drives….to be renamed Split Second Drives….hmmmm.

Heck, I said the game runs fine….I have yet to test it. Might have long load times between races….maybe need to check that which would give me more ammunition for those Split Second Drives that we can’t implement into our 360s….yet.

Racing games don’t have that little something something that San Francisco Rush had. That little something something. Maybe Solid State Split Second would help.

    Just saying.

  • AutomaticOcelot

I’m in favour of more balls-out demos on Major’s blog.

  • Culebra 64

Ooo, been looking forward to this! It’s been awhile since I’ve played a really good arcade-y racer. Downloading now!

  • mark316uk

its very good in my eyes the handling / sense of speed may need a tweek though i know its only a demo so i just hope they know about it

  • MeS FEAR

i think this game will rock on multiplayer…i liked the demo…the visuals are great and the explosions on the track are awesome. not a first day purchase but will get it later. red dead redemption is on top on my list :)

  • CochransLac

Well after all the videos of this game I must say I was excited, man a video can make a crappy game look good. Rental at most unless you like arcade racers, not for simulation die hard fans.

  • Exu

AND THEN THE GROUND EXPLODED AND WE WERE ALL DRIVING IN TUNNELS AND THEN A TRUCK BLEW UP AND SOMEONE CRASHED INTO IT THEN A HELICOPTER DROPPED WHAT IT WAS CARRYING ONTO SOMEONE THEN A PLANE FELL ONTO THE RUNWAY AND THE CONTROL TOWER COLLAPSED AND THERE WAS FIRE AND RUBBLE AND AWESOME EVERYWHERE

  • sleepydumbdude

Yeah that was a disappointment. I had a feeling it wouldn’t be as good as the video made it out to be at least this saved me a rental.

  • Susurration

Tried it at PAX ’09 and enjoyed it. I’ll try out the demo to see if it still appeals to me.

  • Susurration

Oh, never mind. I forgot silver accounts have to wait a week. I’m sure it’ll be up on PSN before then so I’ll just get it on there and if I like it buy the game on that platform so I can play online. :)

  • beelzebubble

All regions? Not available in Japan (again). Stupid silver rules.

  • MACPH1ST0

Played it, and it’s just ok. Not nearly as fun as the Blur demo. It would have been nice if there had been at least some online racing to try out. And for those complaining that’s it’s not realistic enough, you’re missing the whole point of the game. It’s supposed to be an arcade racing game. If you want realism, then go play a Forza or Gran Turismo game instead.

  • I DLord I

Wait, people were actually expecting this to have simulation like features/mechanics? Like, really? For real?

  • Z4M0

while really entertaining and great fun pottential (from the makers of PURE) it has some limitations over BLUR:
    .
The sense of high speed isn’t so present and power ups work like time events so you are restricted to use them when the propper time comes. Playing BLUR you can use any powerup you got anytime. Restrictions decreases the options, so do the fun factor.
    .
Also, I haven’t yet found a way to counter enemies’ attacks other than naturrally dodging neither can interfere with cars behind me so in case you get 1st you’ll have to avoid everyone else’s tricks on you.

  • I DLord I

Yea I just played the demo and I can safely say I had more fun with Blur. Maybe it was because there was no online MP in the demo. Maybe it was because Blur has classes and a decent car selection in each class. Maybe it was because there are multiple tracks in Blur. But I am pretty sure it is all of the above.

Needs more MP in the demo

  • Kroesis

I’m not really sure about this. Didn’t like blur and Split Second has an interesting concept but unless I drove particularly well (although being someone who particularly enjoys a good tussle in racing games, I doubt it) I didn’t notice any damage on the car except for when an opponent took me out of the race.

Not having seen any videos of it prior, I had thought that the explosions and course changes were going to be done via nudging opponents into walls and the standard ‘red barrels’ and seeing the results (utilising a Burnout takedown camera esque view) instead of pushing a button.

Perhaps a bargain bin purchase in the future.

  • pleccy

Good demo, but i think i prefer blur.
