Kinect, Xbox 360 By Larry Hryb, Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson

  • Grubish360

    Hmm… I was really hoping for a 250gb kinect bundle…

  • Ahmedz

    That’s a lot :/

  • pyr0lyZer

Too bad I already got my 360S…the Kinect bundle would have been a better deal TO GET KINECT. But, I’m happy with my 250GB hard drive, I think.

  • rogXue

countdown to kinect failure…. no thanks I’m not spending $200 for an add on and a game just so my 2 year old can play with a fake tiger…

  • b trumpet

I have to admit, $150 for Kinect + Kinect Adventures is a pretty good deal. Though $200 for the 4GB Xbox 360 seems like a rip off. It’s $100 cheaper, with a 246GB difference.

  • Doh Ray Egon

I already had no interest in Kinect and this price isn’t helping to change that.

  • Coldcsp

Really I was expecting a price cut to 99.99 or 124.99 oh well no kinect for me :(

  • daissu

    A bit spensive… :-(

  • DeFFeR

Was hoping that the “official price hasn’t been determined yet” meant that it was going to be cheaper than the listed price of $150 – alas, I’m no surprised. MS probably saw that it was selling just fine at retailers with the $150 tag, and decided to cash in on people who buy anything new.

$120 seems like a more deserving price point for a peripheral.

(also, Major, you need to fire your editor or hire me… Ever, not every.)

  • Vasilii Zaytsev

HAHAHA! $150 are you f*cking kidding? Not only is motion control stupid but you want to charge the price of a console for an accessory…

  • DeFFeR

Also – why the change from glossy black to the matte black for the 4GB console? Will it accept the new hard drives?

(Also, I see that you fixed the error in my previous post.)

  • whodatcool1

I will buy this if you release the 250GB hard drive for the slim 360 seperately so we can put it in our Xboxes instead of a 4GB and the hard drive will need to be less than $100 or I’m not buying this altogether.

  • b trumpet

A lot of you aren’t reading. The device itself is only $100. It comes with Kinect Adventures which is $50. You’re getting a deal. The original suggested price was $150 for the device itself. It’s a game and hardware for $150. And don’t forget, the device is meant to work with multiple people at once. No need to buy additional controllers.

  • erichsouza76

The add-on with a price tag that high??? Thanks but no, thanks.
Marketing people should be high on crack for sure.

  • NEW P4TH

$150 aint bad for Kinect + Kinect Adventures, but I was really hoping for $120.

  • Vulak Aerr

Not bad. I’ll get that. £129 in the UK with the bundled game. I’d rather it was bundled with Dance Central or YourShape but never mind.

    Put me down for one.

  • Spitz pass auf

Fuck i just bought a 360 S i want an Arcade with the black matte finish. The shiny finisch on the Elite is butt ugly and collects all the dust. :(

  • Rockwell7

im sorry the pricing is all wrong for the kinect needs to be under £80 without software and what about xbox s 250 + kinect bundles.

  • SuperDunners

I can haz matte finish too?

  • Pisuke

No way! 149$ will be 149€ in Europe. This is way too expensive.

  • tbs0

    awesome! :)

  • weakwill

    muahahahaha major.
150 bucks for kinect?an add on so expensive?
i think its beather to go good eat for the money.
sorry major no kinect for me.
gaming have too do with fun and no with expensive prices.
think someone have $$$ in here eyes.
that have nothing too doo with fungamming more.
good for me is i m too old for too think i must have all.

  • SilentHunter382

I still can’t believe (no wait I can) that M$ turned Joy ride from a free arcade game to a retail game.

  • Dorwrath

$149 ?? are you kidding. What a ripoff. $99 and you’ll had people lapping it up. Kinect = ripoff

Was going to buy it, maybe now I look at Move or just stick with my Wii.

  • waldo15

I am positive MS will have new HDDs for the new 360 S, when will you announce those? We can already expect exorbitant prices but having a date helps decide if I go full 360S with 250GB or 360S with 4GB + smaller HDD.

A shame the Kinect price got stuck at $150. Too expensive. Yes it comes with a free game but really? $150 for an add-on piece of Hardware? But not only that, the games themselves have two tiered prices: $49.99 and $59.99. Crazy.

  • Muzzymate

The new Arcade has builtin Wifi? That’s pretty slick! Major props!
    .
$150 is a little too much for me at the moment but I’m glad it’s at least coming packed in with a game. Will probably pick that up sometime late next year…

  • Nintendo Tim

So, $50 for the games, and Kinect with the game is $150, effectively putting Kinect at $100.

Games are a tad overpriced, considering Move games are $40 (have you /seen/ Sorcery?), and $150 is something I’ve balked at ever since that rumor first appeared.

Unless the 250GB Slim gets a Kinect bundle, consider the Kinect a no-go for me. I was actually passing on the Slim until the Kinect bundles were announced. Guess I can finally exhale…

  • STONED1999

So can the 4G arcade be upgraded to include a hd ?

  • xTye

You know what’s stupid? Joy Ride was promised like a year ago…for FREE. Now its $50?

  • Deltacore16

A $100 for a breakthrough device that let’s you game without a controller. Sounds like a great deal to me. All I’m saying is I’m not going to knock it until I’ve tried it.

  • metallicorphan

wow £130 here in the UK,thats a terrible price
    -
and £39.99 for the games, the same price as normal games…for games like Joyride, the game you WERE going to be giving away for free, until you changed your minds, you are now gonna be charging 40 quid for it
    -
sorry MS,at the time you will prolly say its a massive success, blah blah, but i still wont believe you

  • r3dreck

    $40 Wii games, pass.

  • rogXue

Everyone saying it’s $100 with a $50 game you are full of it. There would be an option to buy it for $100 if that was the case. This is $150 with a forced free game….

  • I chex mix ho I

    @b trumpet
most people expected to be included with a game anyway at 150. nintendo set this expectation when they included wii sports with every wii system. unfortunately, they couldn’t pick kinect sports. they had to pick kinect adventures which looks stupid in my opinion. surely they will have a bundle with the 250gb version and you would think they would price that at $400. i definitely agree with the poster above about hoping that ms saying “the official kinect price has not been announced yet” meant they were going to make it cheaper than $150. i mean you would think that if everybody said $150 was a great deal and ms knew it was actually going to cost $150 then they wouldn’t say anything. but no they have to get our hopes with pr bull crap. i figured they released that statement because people were reacting so poorly to the $150 price point. as far as the new system goes, the 4gb of storage sucks but you can find 2 16gb generic usb flash drives for pretty cheap now to expand that to 32gb. i can’t imagine how much the separate 250gb hard drive if the new arcade will allow for an upgradable/expandable hard drive slot.

  • HT UK

Why are the Kinect games the same price as real games in the UK?

Do you really think anyone with any common sense is going to spend the same amount of money on Kinectimals, as they would for Mass Effect 2, Red Dead Redemption etc?

I really hope this fails M$.

  • Recon73

To expensive, not a buy for me now.

  • PAT2K9

$149 is too expensive. Going above $99 is a mistake.

  • Firecrest

Thanks, but no thanks. $150 is a bit steep, not to mention that like a lot of folks, I lack the required space in my gaming pad for this device.

  • OKCWILDCAT

I just don’t get it. Does anyone at Microsoft honestly believe that this whole Kinect idea is going to work?

  • NumberedJester

I was tempted to buy it if it was about the £100 mark. £150 is pushing the boat out a bit far on this one, and how on earth can you charge full price for the games?

I was expecting them to be about £25RRP.

At the minute Ill pass, though Ill probably buy it eventually as I like shiny new things.

  • CDN Crockett

We are out, tooo much coinage!!!!!

  • SummTrulli

MS EPIC FAIL ..too expensiv the German Price! Gona go back to the Wii cause thats much cheaper then Kinect :D You destroyed my hope of Kinect beeing under 100€

  • I chex mix ho I

    @rogXue
that is what i was trying to say in my long winded post. you summed it up nicely in a few sentences. although, i didn’t notice until now that they had also announced the price of kinect games to be $50. i’m pretty sure the only game out of the 15 available at launch that looks like its worth $50 is dance central but i honestly don’t think i would enjoy it so i won’t be getting it. i would like to try out kinect sports but am not paying $50 for it. hopefully it goes to the bargain bin soon and i can pick it up there.

  • Quicksilver4648

Well, I already had an personalized pricing structure for Kinect:
    $50 – I buy Kinect day one
$75 – I buy Kinect by the end of the week
$100 – I but Kinect by the end of the year
$125 – I buy Kinect sometime before the end of 2011, so long there is a quality title
$150 – No buy regardless of software

I intend to follow this chart so it looks like I will be looking for either a special sale or price reduction.

  • twisted poke

While the price of the unit is too high, the price of the games is what is really ridiculous in my opinion. $50 per game. Based on the crap you showed at E3, that is way too much. Sure hope you guys know what you are doing. Launching with no REAL games and at a pretty hefty price. I smell failure.

  • Euphoric Fusion

    Hmmmm.
So in the UK you can by a current model Arcade 360 console for £119.99.
And you price a CONTROLLER with a game for £10 more?!?!?

I was actually looking forward to picking one of these up but the pricing is just ridiculous, and for those reasons, I’m out.

Good luck getting these into peoples homes…. you are going to need it!

  • r3dreck

    Sorry $50 games, pass!

  • Imaria

Well, that’s… unfortunate pricing. No chance, sorry.

  • Bogard07

Major, no one is going to buy this thing. It will fail worse than the virtual boy.

  • Exu

Way to currency convert you robbing bastards. Shove Kinect up your collective arse.

  • JoeCool314

I agree with rogXue, except I don’t have children. So Kinect doesn’t appeal to me or my coin! Now after I saw the Star Wars section of the Kinect E3 Demo I thought hey that might be ok…….then I was reminded of how many times Lucas has raped the fans. Forget that…….running away!!

  • Doh Ray Egon

I just don’t understand who Microsoft is trying to appeal to here. The hardcore (most of us here) don’t seem to care about Kinect. The casuals already have the Wii (And won’t care to buy another system), and if they don’t…they are going to see either a $200 Wii or a $300 360 with Kinect on the store shelves. They will most likely go with the Wii because of it’s price.

  • THEGRAYGH0ST

Not to be insulting, but what are you guys thinking?

As it is right now, this cool new technology will ultimately fail. First, there is very little software supporting the technology, so only a handful of individuals who are really excited about the technology or a single game will buy the hardware, resulting in a low install base. Second, seeing this low install base and a lack of return on investment, developers will make very little to no effort to develop games for this technology. Lastly, very few games will result in fewer and fewer people adopting this new tech. And the circle goes round.

In order for this technology to be successful, you are going to need to do a couple things. First, it needs to be bundled with all new hardware without a price increase. This will hurt, but in the long run you will be better off. Second, for the HUGE install base you already have, you need to price the add-on very low so people who want the hardware, and more importantly people on the fence, will adopt it. Once the hardware is attached to more xbox systems, developers will be more comfortable investing in games for the system resulting in more games, more choice, and people wanting to adopt the system. You get your return on investment from the games not the hardware itself.

  • MR WEGMAN

The $150 price tag makes my decision very easy for me- I’ll pass on Kinect. I guess Microsoft is going after the same people that are willing to pay $5 for fake virtual clothing for their avatar (I don’t get it). I predict this will sink like the HD DVD addon… Microsoft will stop supporting Kinect just like it did for their force feedback steering wheel- at least with the wheel you get feedback- I have no desire to move air…

I am planning on trying move (will be a $50 investment since I have the camera)… at least I will be able to play Tiger Woods in HD- I am enjoying Tiger 11 on the Wii except for the graphics…

I am disappointed with Kinect- I plan on not falling for Microsoft’s expensive experiment…

  • VEXTREXXX

Hahaha $150 with game is too much? You buy a $300-$400 system and pay $60 for games plus $50 a year for Gold and $150 is “too much”? My suggestion is to go buy a last gen system and some used games…. $150 for Kinect and a game is about right. I will use it for what it is great at… Being a GREAT hands free remote! Plus it has the camera. What, $150 is too much for a remote? Tell that to Logitech which has sold (and STILL sells) $100-$300 Harmoney remotes for YEARS!

  • SGT Benton

Lol.. looking forward to all the “OK, the price rumours were true…” tweets from Major, Stepto and E after they were busy telling us it was all speculation and no price had been set. ;-)

  • NBA Kirkland

The $150 price won’t last too long because it isn’t going to sell well. Nearly all the games are for a “casual” audience, but the price is anything but. I think MS is making a mistake because once the numbers come out that it isn’t selling well, developers will think twice before making games for it. And it will be a downward spiral from there.

  • Rdeal

£130 for a addon what a joke,it will be dearer than the console itself.
People who buy this need to be committed,i was looking forward to this but at that price i really hope it fails

  • dirtbound

I think it is a HUGE mistake not offering a $399 deal with Kinect and the 250GB 360s.

I am planning on getting Kinect, but Microsoft will lose a console sale since they are not offering the ‘real’ bundle people like me were waiting for.

Not to mention the fact that right now they are saying there are no current plans to offer the 250GB HDD add-on for the 360s. What the hell are these 360s 4GB users going to do when they need to upgrade?

Wake up Microsoft and stop telling us that your ‘research’ shows happiness about the pricing, when most of your customers are obviously NOT happy.

I’m still trying to grasp the lack of marketing brain power here… no 250GB 360s/Kinect Bundle? Nope… still don’t get it. Stupid… Stupid decision.

  • dedtime

wow… Do they actually want people to buy this thing, or do they just want it to look good on store shelves. A peripheral for the price of a console… Not to smart.. And there is no argument about “It comes with Kinect adventures” blah blah. Kinect sports should be free with it anyway. 100$ would have been a much better price. And Joy Ride, that game that was once a free to own idea has been turned into a gimmic racing game for 50 bux…. Just not smart. CC this to the hardware guys on the xbox team :P

  • YODA12320

Any possibilty of a spec sheet and/or comparison sheet for the 4GB Slims and 250 GB Slims Major?

  • Servantes NL

kinect is going to fail hard xD

  • ValleyFloydJam

wow thats a bloody stupid price lol

it should be closer to £50 and anyone who pays out for that needs there head looking at tbh

  • Casserole

Well I was hoping Kinect would come cheap so that I could splash out on a lot of Kinect games (most at E3 tickled my fancy) but the high pricepoint has put me right off.

  • StaticFree

I would’ve been tempted by a kinect/360s bundle if it came with a hard drive. I wouldn’t mind having a kinect unit and a new 360s but I can’t see myself paying $450 for that. Guess I’ll stick to my 60g 360 and wait and see if the price drops one day on kinect.

  • Supergrass

I bought the original Xbox on launch day and the same for the 360, which I much prefer to my PS3 and Wii. But I have to say this $150 price tag is absolute insanity. The people behind the decision and the implementation of Kinect have already failed and I find it hard to believe they can’t see that. No way in the world am I paying $150 for this thing, a sentiment that seems to be running high among others. And Kinect did at least have me interested, though now I’ll probably go with the PlayStation Move instead.
Just wondering who Microsoft thinks its audience is going to be at that price tag? Hardcore gamers will be busy buying COD, Fable 3, the new Fallout, etc. at this time of year with that $150. The casual audience is not going to pony up $150 for an item that seems to have so little to it from a hardware perspective.
To Major Nelson and those at Microsoft, I almost never complain about business decisions or pricing because nobody is forcing me to buy anything. But in this case, someone there needs to have a bit of sense slapped into them.

  • dirtbound

I’ve been giving this thing the benefit of the doubt for months, and have bit by tongue during that time… but it almost seems like MS is making a calculated effort to bury this project… as if it has problems they know are going to be there on launch.

    What gives?

  • The KaneRobot

That price will be cut in almost half by 6 months after release.

  • ROBBMAC

Any word on when the all black with chrome guide button 360 controller will be available at retail? I’d like a second one that matches the one that comes with the 360 S.

  • dirtbound

    @The KaneRobot:

If they want it to be a success… I agree with you 100%. Just in the past 10 minutes I think I’ve gone from “I’m going to buy Kinect.” To… “I’m going to see how things go with Kinect ‘BEFORE’ I buy.”

The only thing MS can do to pull me in on Day 1 is to bundle it with the 250GB 360s… otherwise they are losing both sales.

I’m done spending my time thinking about this, going to lunch…

  • Sogeman

@b trumpet Same difference unless they sell it without game for 100 which they don’t

  • I chex mix ho I

    @ROBBMAC
they had all of the new black accessories at the gamestop i went to a few days ago in the oklahoma city area. i saw the new black controllers, the black wireless headset, black chatpad, black controllers that come with the play and charge kit and even the black wired headsets. it doesn’t appear places like amazon have them yet though.

  • Helvedeshunden

OK, so Kinect pricing leaves me absolutely disinterested. However, I am interested in a matte new 360 with a 250 gig drive.

Finally got rid of the abomination that was my glossy PS3, so I would like to keep my entertainment center gloss-free. Matte all the way.

I guess it won’t happen, though. The old arcade units looked nicer than premiums as well, since they didn’t have the faux silver tray that looked like a child’s toy.

  • Djshep

I’m not paying £130 for it, plain and simple and I’m one of the people who has been enthusiastic about Natal/Kinect from the word go. Was planning to get this around christmas but now I’ll wait until it drops A LOT. Is it not enough that Microsoft will make a huge profit on the games it will sell?

  • Kincaid Kino

*sigh* I had my hopes for Kinect. I planned on buying one of the new motion control set ups this year and Kinect was what I was planning on. But Move is officially cheaper, so it looks like it will be Move. Someone else had it right, I could justify ~$100. But it’s the holiday, I got other things to buy (Fable 3 and New Vegas, not to mention christmas gifts.) Kinect will have to wait until the price drops. And I really wanted the voice control for Netflix. D:

  • TheDagda509

Love my Xbox, just no desire for this..

  • Juganawt

It’s over £100, it’s dead in the water. I give it 12 months before you can pick it up cheaper than Tony Hawk’s Ride.

It’s WAY beyond the “impulse purchase to keep kids quiet” price it NEEDS to be to succeed. at £99.99 it could have possibly done well, £79.99 and it’d be a runaway smash depending on software, but £130? You can buy a Wii CONSOLE for the same price!

Even the Playstation move, with the EyeCamera, Playstation move controller, Sub Controller AND optional Gun Attachment only comes to £99.99.

Not only that, ITS THE SAME PRICE AS THE 360 ITSELF!

You are priced higher than both of your main competitors with an unproven technology that may not work well in Real Life circumstances (i.e. with mirrors on the wall, limited room space, low light levels, oversaturation, multiple voices and background chatter), and with a very sub-par software lineup. There is no “Killer App” for Kinect yet.

I am not convinced, and neither are many other core gamers I know.

Kinect has gone from an interesting gadget to an utter flop in my eyes. It really has to be spectacular for me to even consider getting one at full price.

  • CALMADOR

That Holiday Bundle is epic… as long as you can upgrade the HD… which I’m pretty sure you can.

  • mig0

    Matte finish… nice.

My big question is whether a hard drive can be put into either console. Given that existing HDDs wont work, Im not interested in upgrading to the new arcade without being able to add a hard drive, and id rather have the matte vs gloss.

I dont like the $150 price tag for kinect, but Rock band was $150, as was guitar hero world tour with the drums. If Kinect works as well as it can, no reason it will flop. Guitars are >$50, as are drums and whatnot for those games.

  • mann alive

What a shame. Kinect will never get enough penetration to matter now. No must have game and overpriced. What a fumble for a remarkable piece of tech.

  • Xlrking

    150 dollars as expected.
Pay 50 more dollars, get a wii.
    What the fuck.

  • Fossett

    **FAIL**

  • penguin1992

I got past the whole motion control gimmick 6 months after the wii so I’m going to pass obviously. I can’t see how people are going to pay $150 for a attachment to a $200 console (at least), but whatever, I’m sure it will still sell great >_<

  • xXDarkShotXx 93

150$ is a pretty good deal, but in Europe we have to pay 150€(193$)!!!!!!!!

Thats just unfair! Whats wrong with you guys at Microsoft?

  • XSAVAGE

Thats expensive , Major Nelson are the 3 levels are included in the package? or you must pre-order from a specific store? , i pre-ordered from Amazon.

  • MR WEGMAN

This will be the zune of motion controllers- the vista of operation systems- the virtual boy of handhelds – … I have zero confidence in this product… this is just a test for the next xbox (but in the end I see this as being as successful as the zune)… perhaps if I wasn’t fooled by other products like the HD DVD addon, xbox vision camera, steering wheel, all products that had limited support… plus I still have a bad taste in my mouth from my launch day 360 having to be replaced several times… I do recall everyone saying the Wii would fail before it launched, but with the kinect it is different- I don’t see how it can succeed with this current setup… who makes these decisions???

  • AzBat360

Do the 3 exclusive Kinect Adventures levels only come with the $300 system pre-order? Or do they also come with the $150 add-on pre-order too?

  • Damaster11

We already knew kinect would be a disappointing 150$ with it being on the Microsoft website. Telling us the same information that we all know and sounding enthusiastic about it will only sadden me further.

  • bUbbALoUmCc

Well Microsoft just lost alot of business. Me and alot of people in my family were going to get this but at that price not anymore. We were all thinking $99 or less. That is way to expensive especially for core gamers. Oh Well.

  • Anonymous

I bought my 360 just to relax and play video games in my spare time, not to get a workout. I run a couple miles and use my weight bench daily. Well, Kinect won’t affect me then since I have no intention of buying it :)

  • HeavenOrHell

Looks like I’ll be passing on this. I wasn’t really looking forward to any of the launch titles but would have still liked to pick up the camera.

If they eventually release a package that is just the camera at a lower price then I will pick one up.

  • JerryG

I’ve been looking forward to this. Since I already had a pre-order in for the Kinect I’m excited to see that a game is being included and that the price of Dance Central is now reduced to $49.99.

Like a previous poster, I am interested in knowing whether the preorder bonuses are being made available to buyers using Amazon/Gamestop/etc.

  • JerryG

Major – Is there a reason you linked to Amazon for Kinect Adventures? Seems strange to link to the individual game on Amazon when the game is being bundled free with the hardware.

  • I RAIBEN I

    more expensive.
    150€ = 193$

  • MACPH1ST0

Whatever happened to Fable 3 being the first full game to support Kinect? Are we ever going to see some kind of results from Lionhead’s Milo demo from E3 two years ago? Using Kinect with Fable 3 or other full retail games was the only thing that would even get me to consider getting Kinect for that kind of price. But there’s no way I’m paying that much just to play a bunch of Wii minigame knockoffs – I don’t even use my Wii for that!

  • Jaiyan

I bought the HD-DVD drive – “once bitten, twice shy”.
Not ruling out Kinect, but I’ll wait for a price-drop I reckon.

  • Grimoire

$150 and 6′ distance from the camera? Doesn’t look like I will be picking one up. I have 3 TVs in my house, and none of them have a 6′ space between them and the couch.

I’m guessing MS is not targeting Japan as a consumer base either…

Very disappointed. As are all the retailers and developers that hoped to support this camera. So much for treating Kinect as a platform. Adoption is going to be very slow and developers are going to look the other way. I can’t see this being a value for money buy.

@Major and 95% of the Comments
If you’ve remembered me from page 2, I was all for it. A $100 for a device that’s breakthrough. It’s actually $150 with a game most of us don’t want. So, please. . . Major and everyone at MS . . . look at the comments. “We” are the gamers.
Looking through history, why did the low powered Wii succeed? It had breakthrough technology at the lowest price of the consoles (and I don’t even own a Wii). Kinect has the technology but “not” the price.
To sum it all up. . . We’ve already invested in your incredible machine, please give us this device at the price we “all” want to pay.

  • rastansaga

I was under the assumption that one of Microsoft’s “rules” was that DLC had to be original content, produced after a product was finished and released. This fact was boasted about and promoted numerous times over the last few years – on this very website as it happens.
…Fast forward 2010… Kinect + games still under development (some only 75% finished according to comments at E3), yet here we are, and I quote “Pre-order for $150 an unfinished Microsoft device and unfinished Microsoft games and get… 3 DLC levels for free”.
What? Has it be ascertained months before the game is finished that these 3 Kinect Adventures levels won’t fit on the disk? 4.GB of storage, but we just can’t find any way to squeeze these last few levels on the game. They just won’t fit! We tried compression, but we’re still short of a few bytes. Arrrhgh!
    Ludicrous, rip-off, I smell a huge flop….

  • SCS 85

It would have been better if it was $99.99 considering the 360 4 GB and Kinect bundle is only $100 more. Oh well. I *may* still end up getting one. At least it comes with a game.

  • BeAN ToWn BrOwN

Will the arcades need a hdd to browse the marketplace and play on live???

  • RuairiAU

I can only imagine how much this device will cost in Australia. M$ will probably use their default pricing rule of doubling it and then adding some.

  • Rastin

Wow yeah 150 bucks is way to much… /sigh. I really wanted the voice activated controls for netflix movies.

  • T Mecha

Its the price of games im more angry about. Same RRP of normal 360 games is BS.
They arnt much more than arcade games to me.

  • ElektroDragon

I am UPSET that there is no Slim 250GB + Kinect bundle! That is what I want to buy! Also, the Kinect game prices retail for $60, but the Move game prices retail for $40. Why is that?

  • o ELITE CHEZ o

With Microsoft pushing digital downloads, This 4GB offering is almost insulting. I know this particular console is for users with no current interest in digital downloads, but read on.

I welcome the digital download revolution on XBOX360… BUT when is MS going to stop strangling us with the storage space bottleneck?

BestBuy has terabyte+ drives for under $100.

I haven’t heard any reasonable argument supporting this failure to keep at least remotely in step with the greater marketplace. Some of you will say “Oh it’s so they can make more money”. Nonsense. We WILL pay for terabyte drives – just make them available already so those of us who choose to can download as much digital content as we like!

I wanna NOM on a terabyte drive! :)

  • xLoCk 0nx

People here are forgetting that Kinect is not about pleasing existing customers – it’s about branching out to new ones, namely kids, girls, mums and grannies. There is not a single game in the launch lineup for core gamers, but again, Kinect is not for the core gamers. Games will still be predominantly made for core gamers using the controller. I just hope the two are never merged in a single title – keep kinect games kinect, and core games core!

  • Migz7

Kinect… Kin…. both start with K. Both have terrible entry price points. Kin is dead. I fear what lies ahead for Kinect. I’ll take a “wait and see” approach. But I think $150 is way too much.

  • xLoCk 0nx

@SilentHunter382: I was also pretty annoyed to see joyride go from a free arcade title to a paid retail game.

It seems as though microsoft is doing everything it can to piss off its core fans right now, what with all the attention on Kinect and the cancellation of 1vs100. Yes, they tell us they are working on bigger and better projects (even though many of us loved 1vs100 just fine as it was. But seriously, we all know whatever those projects are, they are going to require Kinect functionality (which will be used to help sell Kinect).

I admire Microsoft for taking what is essentially a pretty big risk with Kinect. The motion games market seems pretty competitive right now, and I do question whether Microsoft can knock the Wii off number 1. Lets face it, the Wii is cheaper and has a way bigger selection of motion based games, and the number of Wii consoles sold today is still incredible. Sony’s Move seemed like a gimmick when I watched their E3 press conference in 2009, but I was really quite surprised with their comeback at E3 this year – they really stole the show. Impressively, they managed to reach out to all their audiences – both their core gamers with typical announcements, plus new audiences with Move(and their launch lineup seemed way more interesting than Kinect’s). Microsoft blatently ignored its core fans at this year’s E3, with nothing more than a handful of extremely predictable titles. Instead, they focussed on Kinect, showcasing games that could only excite a 5 year old or induce incontinence in the elderly.

  • K04 Passat

On one hand, this doesn’t interest me much, as far as playing games on my own. On the other hand, my family would have a good time with it…

  • TANK 2old2play

PASS. collect being 149.99 is an EPIC Failure. Won’t even consider purchasing it until it’s sub $100.

Add on gizmos traditionally get very little support from anyone and I don’t believe this is going to be any different. And i’m not going to spend a Wii’s worth of money on an add on gizmo.

    Fail. Keep it.

  • Renown Recon

Why is this console selling with a 4GB Hard Drive? Why not do a bundle with the 250GB Xbox 360?

  • Whetzel

I honestly thought that Microsoft was smarter than this.

Here’s what I see happening. Right before Christmas, Nintendo is going to announce a price drop on the Wii, taking it to $150 (and that’s bundled with a game too). Nintendo’s whole marketing is going to be something along the lines of “buy an ACCESSORY for $150 OR buy a complete system with several games already at market for $150″.

I’ve never been excited about this whole motion control gimmick, but at $150 I can guarantee you that I won’t be buying it. If I do buy anything (which I doubt will happen), I’ll buy Move for my PS3. I probably won’t even do that though because I already own a Wii and never play that. I actually LIKE having a controller/steering wheel in my hands.

Someone at Microsoft needs fired or they’re going to take the whole gaming division down with them.

  • BurningFlag666

I checked EB Games in Australia and they are saying it will cost us $198.00 but this is not official and therefore may cost more. COnsidering we pay from $100 to $120 for new standard games that cost Americans US$60 i fear we will be paying more than this. Either way its too expensive and there is not one game i’m interested in and i love games. I could only imagine what the “casual” gamers will think of the price especially parents who are just buying for there kids.

  • BurningFlag666

If there were some games that were geared towards the “core” gamers as well then the price may not be as much of an issue but the games would have to be damn exciting and use th motion controll features in an intelligent and creative way that inhances the games. So far all we are seeing is wii Play rip offs, a bunch of excercise “games” (i believe there are at least 3 or 4 out of the 15 games released), and a bunch more dancing games. AHHHHH YOUUU KIDDING MEEEE! It seems as this is a rushed effort as there is not one creative idea. For what is suppossed to be a liberating device it sure comes across as unliberating in the current line up. 15 games and 3 choices (oh yeah plus you can pat a tiger). Do i seem a little negative, maybe, but consider this – i was extremely excited for this device before the current line up of games now i have absolutely no interest. Make me interested Microsoft.

  • AntenDeathStar

The Kinect should be bundled with a voucher to get a Kinect game of your choice. This might cause a problem of people of either not getting the game they want or one not at all. But they won’t have to shell out another $50 because the Kinect was bundled with a lame excuse for a tech demo.

The Arcade + Kinect bundle isn’t great either because instead of getting a 360 game it is replaced with just a Kinect game. So this will make you shell out another $60 for a proper 360 game because this is no Wii Sports and won’t carry the Kinect as Wii Sports did for the Wii.

This is the marketing I know and love. Sell quick before people know what they are buying.

  • rogXue

    @whetzel

You hit it right on the money. But left out one card that Nintendo has that Microsoft never will… Mario, Zelda and the rest of the NIN clan. I’m damn near 30 and still can’t divorce those SOBs. They are the only reason I have a Wii. And that is one reason that Kinect will fail compared to the Wii. Now Move vs Kinect, that may be a competition.

  • BurningFlag666

I agree with Whetzel i like the feel of having a controller. In fact there are some games the crave for a controller. In real life we use physical tools: I drive a car with a steering wheel, I shoot with a gun etc., so on so forth. There are some games that may not need a controller but for the ones that do we are losing something not gaining. I thing Kinect would benifit from a specially made controller (and let’s not make it expensive just to rake in more $) otherwise we will be stuck with certain genres which will flood the market (such as we have ween with the wii and why most core gamers like myself won’t by it) and cheapen the device in the minds of everyone. I was so hoping that Microsoft would finally give “core” gamers motion controlls that relate to the games we like as well as “casual” gamers but i guess that will not be the case this time around. I applaude PS3 for at least not forgeting there fan base. Shame Microsoft for forgetting us in the MOVE forward.

  • Lavos BR360

There´s no power supply to old 360? how could us use if we don´t have a 360S ?

  • Trimillionaire

It’s about time… I’ve been waiting for MS to officially price Kinect. Can’t wait to get it!

  • Whet Wetty

I was all set to plunk down my $100 for Kinect and then I remembered the Vision camera and what a waste that $40 was. Now that Kinect is 50% more expensive than I thought, I’m going to wait until Amazon makes this a Gold Box surprise. I can only assume that there will be numerous “$XX.XX off Kinect” sales in the coming months.

Remember guys, this is MSRP… as in Manufacturer’s SUGGESTED Retail Price.

Also completely baffled by the lack of a 250Gb Slim + Kinect combo. Which leads me to believe there is something special in the works that hasn’t been announced yet.

  • ANGERMAX

I was very excited for Kinect when it was first announced. After witnessing the mediocre selection of games for it at E3, and hearing about the rumored price point, my hopes for the device have since dwindled.

Now that the $150 price point has been confirmed, I can honestly say that I won’t be purchasing a Kinect.

I still love my 360, but this is a joke.

  • Strud

You pay $60 for a single game, so it is only the cost of 2.5 normal games (taking into account its bundled game value, even less). Seems like OK value when you remember that this is a peripheral that can be used for many different apps and games in the future, unlike bundles like Rock Band (which can cost well over $150) that can only be used for similar music titles.

  • xXDarkShotXx 93

  • Ai Kago

I dont think Kinext is aimed at their core market at the moment. Microsoft are trying to get the other crowd onboard, ie families, women, girls etc, the Wii market basically. I might have bought one of these if there was some proper games out on it, maybe if that Star Wars game came with it for $100.00 or whatever.

  • DarkTear81

    Meh, I’ll just get a Wii. 150 Bucks… Pfff

  • BlazeHedgehog

4gb of storage? The first computer I ever bought in 1998 had 4gb of storage. 12 years ago! The original Xbox from 2001 had 4gb of storage! 9 years ago! There are files on the Xbox marketplace right now that are larger than 4gb!

That’s an absolutely horrid amount of storage in order to justify a Kinect bundle at “under” $300.

  • EveofLight

I was thinking of getting Kinect….but you know that feeling you get when something is telling you not to do something or you will regret it. I have been having that every time the months get closer to its release. The price MS left this thing is will be a no no for me; my daughter really wanted it and how I am doing financially right now I won’t be able to get it. I have a feeling I don’t need to rush into it and I can wait months till I see a bargain for it or someone out there is selling it cheap.
    |
I really don’t know why MS decided to sell Joyride, I feel like they screwed us and they did. They should have given it out for free as promised then updated it to work with Kinect. I find myself being bored with my 360 and I only watch
    |
Netflix on it; I just don’t get excited as I used to before. I find myself playing LittleBigPlanet and Patapon 2 on my PSP and Mario Sunshine and Luigi’s on my daughter’s Gamecube.
    |
I like gaming and I like all consoles but MS has been going down on my fav list and the others are jumping right over it. Sorry no Kinect for me either.

  • bullka LT

The funny thing is that MS will sell soooo many Kinects. I promise you :) I see here only 120 who are unhappy about the price. But there’re 40 million other xbox owners and number X of players who will migrate from Wii or PS3. I think MS doesn’t care a bout your opinion. I think they made a pretty good price calculation.

And the price will really serve the purpose. But only MS knows what is the purpose at the moment (make profit on selling less? get market share from PS3/Wii? Maybe a combination of both?).

  • Blue Thunder28

That is cool! It comes with a game too, perfect. I was picking this up anyway but this rocks.

  • DeviseUSA

Yes it will sell well. But no core gamers means shovelware deluxe. Respectable developers will keep away from it. Kinect is going to suck with budget development. It’s a complicated device to program for.

  • LittleBlueAlien

To the optimists, I disagree – this will have a very hard time selling.
The true recession is only just beginning and consumers will never go for such a novelty at this price.

Casual gaming must = casual prices. $50 for a Kinect game is absurd. (It should have come free priced at $99)

  • Exu

The only Kinect game out there with any appeal for proper gamers is Child of Eden.
    And guess what?
You can play it with a controller.

  • JeffRand

I’ve been looking to upgrade to the newer 360 since my current 120GB drive is almost full. I was really hoping for a Kinect bundle with the 250GB system. My decision will be based entirely on whether or not the 4GB system can be later upgraded with a harddisk. Does anyone know the answer, Major?

  • K1LLER HORNET

    £130 in the UK!

This thing is gonna flop so hard!

I’m sorry, but seeing as this thing is just a couple of cameras & depth sensor, it’s sooo overpriced.
Also, the KINECT device doesn’t have it’s own processor, so all the processing will be done by the 360. This was obviously done to cut down manufacturing costs of the device, so why does it still cost an arm & a leg???

The cost just can’t be justified.

Judging by the comments on this website & many others, hardly anybody will be buying KINECT at the current retail price. Get ready for a massive flop Microsoft.

The only way KINECT was going to be a run away success was if the Hardware price was subsidised somehow, maybe even sold at a loss. Then Microsoft would recover the costs from game sales (like they did originally with the XBOX 360), but I guess you guys decided against that & instead want to milk the customers.

Good Luck, you’re gonna need it.

  • Ai Kago

Good point about Kinext not having its own built-in processor. This basically means pretty much all the games are going to look like those terrible party games on the Wii.

Way too much money considering the current economic climate.

  • Cottonjaws

Ouch… bit pricey… probably be $200+ by the time it reaches Australia… Mind you if they use the special currency converter they use might $250+. It just changed to a definite buy to a wait for a sale price….

  • MeS FEAR

Kinect is great but i dont know if its worth 149€. I know there is a game inside but i could get a new console if i pay 20€ more. Kinect is not a console microsoft! Your pricing strategy is a bit weird…why u sell your console for 170€ and kinect for 149€…i dont see the sense. Major…only a small part of people will buy kinect for that price cuz if we are complaining about the price then others will do. Give us a realistic price for kinect and u will get customer.I think that Bill Gates is angry about not beeing richie rich anymore *lol*

  • Shiaoran

Add a 1TB HDD and I’ll get that bundle for that price.

  • XBOXDroobey

Seems a good deal for a new XBOX…. oh wait. 4GB?!? Less space than my current 360? Put the 250 GB Hard Drive on it then you have yourself a deal.

  • The Phazer

I really have no idea what MS were thinking here.

History has shown over and over again that additional controllers are a really really hard sell, because if they’re expensive people skip them and then nobody makes games for them as they have no install base which means people buy them even less.

Seriously, this is three times what it needed to be to succeed at the market. And you must have known this, so exacerbating it by including a game that appears to be a glorified tech demo rather just letting people choose their own software and culling the price a little is just crazy.

  • KP ScuzzyBunny

Like some others have said, MS is trying to expand their customer base to the “casual” and “family” gamers…people who have Wii’s and rarely use them. For most of us, 4GB is insulting, but a 4GB HDD will let you use Netflix (with Gold), save hundreds of games, play Arcade games online (most retail games would require more space due to map packs and such…and with Gold of course), and have multiple profiles saved. Add a 8-16GB Flash and you are good to go…and the memory IS expandable, just they don’t seem to have announced the options yet. As for the PS Move, you guys need to do your research, as it is by no means “cheaper”…some games require TWO move controllers ($50 a pop), most require the “navigator” (nunchuck) $40, and a camera $50…if you buy one of each, you are looking at $130-140, and if you get the “bundle” you get the sports game but no navigator! So PS Move, spend $20 less, you can’t play all the games, and you are only set up for one person (not a family). Kinect, spend $150, have 4p access out of the box, you don’t need any other accessories, and you have one game already.

  • Stephan1237

For 149 dollars you get a Arcade.

  • wolfzero01

I really don’t think audience that Microsoft is targeting are going to pay $299 for the Kinect bundle when they can get a Wii for $50 cheaper that basically plays the same type of games. The price for a standalone Kinect is also a little to expensive & isn’t going to make the core audience rush out to get it, especially when there aren’t any games worth getting for it.

  • chiruno99

Everyone’s going to cry on about “Oh PSMove you need to buy your extra players and Kinect you just tell them to come forth into the camera.” and “PS Move is flawless unike Kinect’s a problem a day.” but I’ll stick with my own opinions.

Sure Kinect is expensive but requires no other addonds and Move has better controllers, motion sensoring gmeplay sucks anyway. Srsly, playing with a steering wheel for racing games is fun, but you take that away and it’s going to be too tough. I’ll stick with the flawless design of the joypad.

  • Whet Wetty

Hey xXDarkShotXx 93, stop being a stereotyping jack@$$. Maybe your worthless European economy should inspire a video game company to make a console for the world. How did your comment even make it past the spam filter with the f-word tossed in there?

Anyway, as for the value of the system, the included game makes it slightly more interesting, but I don’t want Adventures. If the system (without a game) came in at $120 with a $20 voucher for a game of my choice or something, I’d bite.

  • DarkTear81

Many peeps on here are talking about the share MS wants on the Casual Market.
The casual gamer they want to have a share of will take 2 things into account:

    1) Wii delivers the same sport/yoga/whatever games as Kinect
    2) I can get the Wii for 170€ compared to the Kinect Pack for 300€

PS3 Move against Kinect might be a tough battle but getting casuals attracted to Xbox rather then Wii? No way lol

  • SG dannysal

I agree…$150.00 seems expensive but I am getting it regardless.

  • Bigglesworth

I will get it after the xmas rush when it goes on sale. I know my kid would love it but $150 seems a bit too high to get right away. especially if it still has issues with being played from a sitting position. Should have been priced at $100 or less, seems like that would make it more of a bargain. especially against the sony dild.. er, move :)

  • peejam

hope your not really expecting Kinect to be a success. Good luck with that price :-/

  • technofranki

US$149.99 for Kinect is too pricey. Add-ons to consoles usually fails. In Norway it will cost equivalent to around US$210 (1299 NOK). That doesn’t help.

  • MACPH1ST0

Microsoft can’t seem to figure out who exactly they’re aiming for with Kinect. It’s obviously not for the hardcore gamers, since they’ve shown almost no substantial games at all so far worth buying it for this price (whatever happened to Fable 3?). And even though it looks like they’re going for the casual gaming crowd judging by all the casual minigames shown at E3, it’s not being offered at a casual gamer price to entice them, especially when they can spend just $50 more to get a whole Wii system that also comes with Wii Sports AND Wii Sports Resort. So who is this thing supposed to be for anyway?

  • Snowraver

I’m with the others on this thread. The price is too high, both for the device and the games. Also, the game quality so far seems sub-par. Add this to the speculation that this device won’t work when you are sitting, and that currently only 2 players are supported, and this is looking worse every day. I was pretty excited about it during the “Natal” days, but when the games were “Demoed” (Rigged) for E3 they looked truly embarassing.

Many others have said it, but what this needs is a “Killer App”. Without buttons of any sort, I just don’t know how you are supposed to perform actions in any game. Also, how are you supposed to select something? The demos shown so far seem to be pretty clunky and seem to lack precision. Maybe this could be used to augment a traditional game played with a controller (Throwing fireballs or something).

I’ll have to wait and see, but I predict the same future as the Sega CD, 32X, various light guns, the Super Nintendo Mouse, the power glove…

  • hyghwayman

    DIRTBOUND
“I think it is a HUGE mistake not offering a $399 deal with Kinect and the 250GB 360s.

Stupid… Stupid decision.”

    +1 dirtbound!
    ?, will there be a 360S (250gb HDD) / Reach bundle?

  • GalfordDWeiler

The situation will be worse in Spain…no price given yet. We had an increase in the VAT tax this month and Microsoft has not given any specific pricing for Spain yet.
So far, I will pass until a price cut. I would consider it if it had some Live months on it in addition to the game.

  • ZombieTron

The Norwegian price will probably be closer to $300, I think it will be 1499 NOK, too expensive to be a day one purchase for me. I was hoping it would be more like 500 NOK or £50 or $99 roughly.

I will wait to see how it pans out before I decide to buy it now. I am worried that it could be a total flop with no support after the initial batch of games or two.

I was looking forward to some real innovation with Kinect, I still am hopeful… but it will have to come with a price cut too!!

  • L0ng5h0t

The premise that the price of Kinect equals Kinect ($100) + Kinect Adventures ($50) is only valid because you have to have at least one game to get the full experience, but for $150 at least let me choose the game I get. Based on what I saw at E3, the only game I’d get at launch would be Kinectimals, not the laggy Kinect Adventures. So now for me to buy Kinect plus the game I want is now $200. So, looks like no Kinect for me this year.

  • Codename6

$150 for a motion sensing webcam? haha

  • Hedfix

Well Amazon UK are doing it for less than £130 with Kinectimals and they knock the VAT off for me as I’m in the Channel Islands so that works out as just over £100 for me, I will probably rent the other games but at that price the initial kit + game is a purchase for me. Now looking forward to it.

  • Veive257

I’ve already wasted enough of my money on the vision camera that was barely supported, the hd-dvd drive that failed the format wars and the memory cards that will no longer be supported by the new systems. I thought the wireless wheel was worth the $ until the reports of random fires made it unapproved by the wife.

I’ll pass for now.. maybe if a can’t-miss game comes out and the price drops to something reasonable. Hope the R&D investment was fruitful in other ways.

  • M Shadle

I remember when Kinect was first announced as natal and the preview showed a kid scanning his skateboard in order to play a skating game. This actually seemed like a cool idea at the time and gave me hope that this would be something worth buying. I’m guessing they ditched that whole scanner concept so we can pay $50 for a game making us jump around out living rooms pretending we’re white water rafting.

    Joy Ride is not free.

    Lies!!!!

    Lies at E3

    @Whet Wetty
Did you know that GTA4 and several other Rockstar games were made entirely or partly by Rockstar North, a Scottish game developer?

  • DavidGX

4GB of storage is a joke and Kinect is an ever bigger joke.

  • DavidGX

    A few more thoughts…

Major, what are you guys smoking lately? As someone else already pointed out, you guys have released many accessories and dropped support for them.

The wheel, the camera, the HD-DVD addon, etc. I paid for my Xbox 360 camera with the assurance that it would be supported. And now it’s not. So, what, I shove it up my ass? What should I do with it? My sister also bought a camera for “you’re in the movies” which is a colossal piece of crap that doesn’t work in anything but studio conditions.

You have to do some matrix-style stuff if you want to play demos with a 20gb HDD, what the hell would we do with 4gb? Listen, Major, I like the system and the games but holy cow, we’ve had seven die so far. That plus all the other bs, I’m hanging on by a thread here.

  • r3dreck

New console + 250GB drive + Kinect I would bite on I have a gen 1 non hdmi 360 and have been wanting to upgrade it for a while now but waiting on a good price and since Kinect was announced I figured it would come in a bundle with the 250 drive at a decent price but nope… guess I’ll wait a little longer I’m sure they will do something decent next year. Buying the Kinect as an addon I will no be doing for a loooooooong time due to the price for the addon, game prices, extra power supply for my old 360 and lack of any decent titles for it yet.

  • EveofLight

Isn’t the 4GB like the Arcade version of the old 360 and how much memory did that one have? My sister were talking about it. I am betting you can also upgrade it like the older version when you put in a new HDD.

  • Tiptoe Turtle

WOW thats way to much for kinect. At most it should only be half that price and even then I feel its still way to expensive. Expecially when they are marketing Kinect for grandma and grandpa. I will not buy Kinect until they lower the price to $65 or lower. What a rip off. My sister wanted one for Christmas but for that price and just about all gaming websites saying its way over priced, she isn’t getting one until the price comes way down. You fail Microsoft.

  • XxLightkunxX

You gotta be kidding me with that puny 4GB FLASH DRIVE. Like, really MS? That just forces the consumer to buy a new hard drive eventually for the new slim and that’s just mean. Why the hell such a low amount of memory even? This is worse and smaller than any Arcade SKU you guys have ever released, jesus.

  • Xlrking

In other news, Valve releases a game on steam for free, the Wii being a better choice than the Kinect in terms of what you get for the price, and that the PS Move has fair prices for its games.

    Tsk tsk.

  • XxLightkunxX

@EveofLight: The Arcade had no hard drive I believe, but I may be mistaken. The lowest hard drive I remember on the original 360s was 20GB though.

  • ushman360

I think a lot of you guys are going to be eating your words when this thing sells out every where before Christmas. As for the 4 gb console look no further then the Wii. Once again Kinect, as of right now is mainly casual. I personally hope there is a developer out there making one awesome core game that uses Kinect, but for now it looks like am going to being playing some pretty entertaining games with the family.

  • LECTERN

If I buy it in the USA will it work on my UK Xbox? £129 is just way too much if I can get it for £98 in the USA

  • Shonk

What are microsoft thinking I would think twice at half the £130 rrp
and i have every xbox addon under the sun

if you cant get people like me to buy its sunk

  • EveofLight

XxLightkunxX – Yes I remember, I had a 20GB HDD until I upgraded to the New Xbox 360 S; but how much memory did the Arcade come with? I kinda understand about the 4GB and that people will have to buy more memory just like the older version. They should make a 4GB (Arcade) and 20-60GB (Pro) and the 250GB (Elite).

  • Lohengriehn

For 150$ (I guess its around 130€) Ill buy another XBOX, just for that one special case, that may happen to me (…again. Even if repair time was under 7 days).

  • Shinji257

For those that didn’t notice. The new 4GB model is likely intended to replace the existing arcade which is at $200 right now. So I think it is a great deal because now for the same amount of money there is an addition 3.25GB of internal storage. You can still add a hard drive later if you wish. The new slim may very well replace the current 250GB model (unless it is already out and I’ve been under a rock…)

Anyways the $150 price point is expected with Kinect. I’m pretty sure there is alot of technology in that sucker and at this point it is expensive to manufacture. It will take time but I’m sure the price will come down as manufacturing costs go down. :p

P.S. – I have 2 arcade units right now but one had a hard drive attached as well. The internal storage isn’t used. I utilized the flash drive capability recently by moving my profile to a 16GB sandisk flash drive that I picked up for $40 at walmart.

P.S.S. – No I didn’t read all 8 pages of comments before posting so apologies if anyone already pointed this out.

  • reyalP LGSO

Major Nelson and Microsoft doesn’t care about hardcore gamers anymore. Major Nelson recently appeared in a video about the video game industry where he basically says (between the lines) that MS is done with the hard core gamers and wants to just focus on the expanding casual market.
It think it is hilarious that Major Nelson is hiding under his desk yet again.. he always does this in these type of threads.. I am sure we will eventually get the meaningless comment that he will “pass on the comments to the right department”
As already pointed out in this thread MS has had a terrible history with success and supporting Xbox 360 ad-ons. Failure after failure after failure.. to ask us to pay this kind of money to play Wii knock off games is insulting, to put it kindly. The launch line up for the new device is a joke.
It is really said to see how much Microsoft, Major Nelson and the entire Xbox 360 team has lost touch with the core fan base

  • Shonk

Whats up with the 4gb kinect bundle price in the uk

    Xbox 360 S 250gb $299 rrp £199 rrp uk
    Xbox 360 4gb + Kinect $299 rrp £249 rrp uk

the uk price for kinect on its own and bundled is a joke

  • SkyyPlum

4gb bundles, what is up with that? Why not just say we want all casual gamers who don’t have a 360 to buy this and pay a lot more for a hd so we can rip you off? Plus we all pretty much knew Kinect was going to be $149 but that’s still ridiculous. All the games seem fit for kids and not one game did I see at E3 or anywhere else that showed other wise. I’m interested in Child of Eden and Sports, but that’s it and $149 just so I can play them is crazy. Move is nearly half the cost and seems to have better games for it.

What is MS thinking behind this price point Major? If some hardcore games were shown I could understand but this just seems to be trying to bring in another customer base and that price point is awful if that’s the case.

  • BURIBLAZING X

awesome this is a no brainer!

  • oAssassin Xo

Ever since the cam stopped being supported (more or less) I stopped caring about MS’s new ideas. The HD-DVD thing? Didn’t care. Knew it wouldn’t last. New “slim” system, already RRODed (according to complaints), yet again I didn’t bother with it.
    .
    .
With Kinect I am on the fence. I own a Wii but frankly Wii has boring, bad graphic games. Its why I like Kinect better. But as others have pointed out, it will get launched then die off. I remember when Kinect (err…Natal) first came about. Everyone was thinking “This will rock with popular games like MW2″. But then it looks like we are left with casual games instead for it. ure there might be developers looking at Kinect. But until I see pictures of games that PLANNED on being released….I will wait on it.

  • oAssassin Xo

“I remember when Kinect was first announced as natal and the preview showed a kid scanning his skateboard in order to play a skating game. ”
    .
    .
Wow I forgot about that. Yeah. I remember all the “ideas” (apparently) they had for it. Its what made me want to get one. Now they have tore it down a motion camera. I want to scan things. I want to play REAL games. I want something from MS that doesn’t actually have no value a month later cause it sucks.
    .
    .
If they at least let you scan things again I’d get 100%. That could make things fun. I mean heck, the DS XL even lets you scan things in alot of games. How hard can it be MS???

  • ncBadrock

149,99$ means it’ll be at 149,99€ here in Germany. Although this is pretty expensive I will get it anyways to use the motion and voice navigation for my dashboard (Comparing it to Sonys Move solution: I would need to buy two Move controllers plus one navigation controller for a total of 120€, just for one player and without a game – that’s pretty steep).

HOWEVER I’ll pass on most of the games for the 360. I was expecting fun games like “Kinectimals”, “Joyride”, etc. to be arcade titles at 1200-1600 MS-Points. Charging 49,99€ is crazy. Hopefully Child of Eden will be be available on Xbox Live Marketplace, as I am not willing to pay 50 Euro for party/ fun games. Guys, even a Lips disc sells at 29,99€!
