1 Billion Entertainment Hours spent on Xbox LIVE every month

We’ve just released some interesting Xbox data that I thought you might enjoy:

  • There are 45 million consoles sold in 35 countries.
  • In the last year alone there has been an 157 percent increase in the time spent watching movies and television on Xbox.
  • 42 percent of Xbox LIVE Gold members in the US are watching an average of an hour of television and movies on their Xbox, every single day or more than 30 hours of digitally distributed television and movies a month.
  • The 25 million members of Xbox LIVE around the world are each spending more than 30 hours per month on the service – that means cumulatively Xbox LIVE members are now logging more than one billion hours a month on the service
  • Access to Xbox LIVE is expanding from 26 countries to 35 this November.

And when we ship the next dashboard update in the very near future, Xbox LIVE will launch ESPN on Xbox LIVE, along with Video Kinect.

Update: Corrected the number of consoles sold.

Let me break it down into a real life situation.

I personally like Pepsi much better than Coke, but if I could get Coke for free why would I pay for Pepsi?

They are very similar products, but I just happen to prefer one over the other. I could live without my favorite if the other (which just happens to be very similar to each other) were free.

I’m not trying to argue or “complain”, I just happen to try to be smart about my purchases.

I would agree with you, if you don’t use the service, you should go with silver. Your Pepsi-Coke analogy doesnt personally work for me because I prefer Coke and can’t stand Pepsi. I would/couldnt take a free Pepsi over a Coke that even cost double regular price. If you can live with or without it than I agree save your 60 dollars. Peace

Who else is willing to bet that the dashboard update will come out on Tuesday 2nd November?

  • MACPH1ST0

@xLoCk 0nx: Yeah at this point that pretty much has to be the release date for it. It has to come out before the Kinect launch because one of the updates included is better proportioning on the Avatars so they work better with Kinect.

@VVho Cares, i had a non hdmi xbox 360 core with a 20 gig hard drive, it broke twice but it was a good system. I had no RROD for 4 years. but then i got E47 (not E74 for some reson). cried my eyes out, my mom threw a party for it breaking, and then we got an elite. best thing ever HEHE

BTW: how r u guys doing the cool backround for your avatar pics?

  • Renown Recon

@whetzel The point is we have to pay that ten extra bucks for more feats like: facebook, twiter, Online gaming, netfix, being first to play new demos, espn(looking to see if there will be nascar feats), ect, and as we all know to get those last extra achievements that are online only. so Microsoft can take mony from us without us knowing, even though we do know. Thats why i got a ps3 online is free plus other goodies

You know what would be interesting? Finding out why there hasn’t been a Live Top 10 list posted since Reach launched.
    .
Could it be that the Reach juggernaut… is not?

@ Renown Recon: November 1, actually.

    ooo, pointless stats inbound!

Maybe to celebrate this ‘milestone’ you could give us a free arcade game? lol , a free theme ? lol , how about a single free gamerpic? – of course not!

Give me back my party chat and BF2 Conquest mode, it no longer works after the last update.

Whetzel in a way has a point. The price hikes are going to kill people who are money conscious. I would be making the 1 year purchase of Gold like I did last time, but not when mine finishes in NOV… I see my friend who has a PS3 playing MW2 online for free, and his game didn’t lag like I have been hearing PS3 haters say. I stood there for a while looking and it wasn’t doing much lag, and when it does lag it’s no big difference from Xbox 360 when it lags,or times out(which has been annoyingly constant) It all depends on your connection.
Also the Netflix thing he does have a point… you have to be a Gold member to see it on Xbox 360,and my sister has a WII and she just clicks on the App…(WITHOUT DISC). I love ALL consoles and I have owned all of them, but if I had to watch Netflix, it would be on the WII or PS3, when my Gold ran out. Doesn’t mean I won’t be playing my Xbox…..which reminds me. The time stamp for the achievements online and offline are really condescending. If you get it online, you get a time stamp, when you get them offline, it won’t show nothing, just the # of the gamerscore…….. ok now I get it since the time syncs online there won’t be no mistake of achievement dates; when they are offline you forget to fix the date and time… ok answered my own question, but there should be a sync like I have seen some DVDS do, when it’s in the outlet for a while it automatically syncs the time after it’s being plugged up.

November 1st it is! Thank god, I will have my party chat back at long last :D

  • Logic Squirrel

Out of the 42 million consoles, how many are still working as i take that is since launch of the 360 and not currently working / active on live.

Figures can be misleading at times as i have had two that does not mean it is a popular as it seems as this does not count out replacement consoles.

  • DJSHAUNYB1

    thank god.
finally have my party chat again

    :)

Wow! 42 million consoles sold in 35 countries! That is a lot. Lol.
