  • xTye

    Call of Duty sucks, though…

  • Vice Destroyer

What can you say but, wow. Think back ten years and it looked like insanity when Microsoft entered the videogaming market.

Think back 4 years and it looked like nothing could stop the Wii. And now?

All I can say is that I am glad that I am an Xboxer. My favourite console by far and I am glad that the masses agree. Totally deserves its success and I hope that all involved get a pat on the back. And a bonus.

  • An Xbox God

Its great to see that over 1 million were sold! I think Kinect really helped make that possible.

  • VENOM MADNESS

    @xTye
Most likely you just suck at Call of Duty.

  • YODA12320

Come on Call of Duty Black Ops on 360 as #1, who didn’t see that coming just shows how many prefer xbox live over playstation network.

  • Exu

    Well done.

  • xTye

@Venom Madness Typical Call of Duty fanboy reply. Haha. I am bad at it. Know why? I don’t spend hours on it like sad kids like you.

  • dirty whirlwind

Wow at the numbers. Didn’t expect that. It’s been a good year all around for Xbox 360. Sure, both Sony and Nintendo have had a better year in terms of exclusive retail games. But the Xbox Live distributed content is where Xbox 360 really shines. Been a tremendous year for both XBLA and XBLIG.

  • utingme

What were the top 10 titles sold that weren’t Xbox? All Wii games still?

  • Olamire

    …………..wow…….wow…….

  • Rossa AU

    WOOT GO 360!!! haha :).

And xTye stop being a troll. I am not a fan of the game either. But just stating that BO sucks to start a potential fanboy argument is beyond stupid…..

  • Conor 419

We always hear about the 360′s triumphs in America and it’s failings in Japan, but I’m really interested in Europe, how is it doing there?

  • r3dreck

From some who has played COD:BO… it does suck, can’t wait for BF2 Vet.

  • DarkTear81

    - The Nintendo DS is #1 with 1.5 million units sold… not the 360
    - Majors growth comment seems about right
    - The Top Ten list doesn’t show Halo:Reach at all… and the only “Xbox Exclusive” I see there is Fable III?
    - Yes Call of Duty: Black Ops is #1… but it’s not “for 360″ but for EVERY console AND including the PC

Nice twisting of the numbers Major *lol*

  • Hekate180

    Hell Yeah, Bloomin fantastic.

  • El Cid

@DarkTear81 – The NPD Top Ten list released publically is a combined SKU report (they only changed it recently). The top ten list Major is refering to is the INDIVIDUAL SKU report only available to paying subscribers (which includes MS).
Regarding COD, Major is refering to the individual SKU again – it sold best on 360 and was at the number 1 position for console games based on individual SKU.
Finally, the 360 was the top HOME CONSOLE – handhelds are a different category.

  • NEW P4TH

Congratz to Microsoft, Xbox and to its loyal fans. 1.37 million for a 5 year old console is mighty impressive. I’m a proud Xbox owner and will continue to be one. I hope you guys have another stellar year in 2011. Bring them exclusives other than Halo, Gears and Fable Microsoft. I know you guys got them

  • Van Faulk

Good on you guys. This has been an epic year. Now make sure next year is as good. Start showing us some games.

  • DarkGin87

Microsoft has done what they set out to do, they didn’t want to be the best console they wanted to have the most exclusives and they do, every kinect game that comes out now is and exclusive even if it is a multiplatform game it still be different for kinect because of the control system

  • Thief000

    PWNAGE!
    ‘Nuff said…

  • Wiizpig

Exu and Thief000, where do you get the flaming ODST (i think it’s ODST at least) helmet for the Avatar?

  • Gonin

Good to see that the old dog still has plenty of life in it yet! I’ve been a devotee for around 4 years and still use it daily. Love the XBLA stuff, love the content and love the community. Just upgraded to the 250 ‘slim’ and it’s a thing of beauty!

  • g0afr3ak

Such good news! Thanks for sharing Major! Haven’t tried Kinect yet, but all other content is so great that I’m completely happy with it.

  • chiruno99

Black ops is multi-platform. It selling well on one console dosen’t mean it’s a triumph for Micropants. AC:Bros also follows this.

  • DarkTear81

    @utingme

  • Exu

@Wiizpig It was a preorder bonus with the Noble Map Pack in Gamestop, America only.
Fortunately, the codes work worldwide and I have friends in high places.
Really though, you’re not missing much. The flames don’t move and it is just a reskinned ODST jiggy.

  • Black Fist

Wow….the amount of morons all around the world is astonishing.
The 360 is a piece of crap made by a second rate company, but please, continue buying it, you might have “luck” and see the gold membership being raised once again.
Oh yeah, and the no games crap (multiplatform are on the PS3 too, hence the multiplatform part), and the second rate motion peripheral (kinect is way better on the hands of modders than the company that made it, how ridiculous is that) and the pathetic reward program (you are not rewarded for having the console or being loyal to the brand, you are rewarded for SPENDING MONEY) and the gimmicks that no one wants (twitter, Facebook, ESPN)…..do i need to go on?
But please, continue being tools and buying that crap.
    .
It´s up to you, US, to change the way MS thinks because you are the ones buying that crap, as 360 is already in #3 place in Europe (the less we put Japan and the 360 in the same sentence the best).

  • Black Fist

Before i forget, i have to say one thing on MS´s behalf, the XBLA is pretty good, in fact, it´s the only thing thing really good about that mess of a console.
    .
    .
    .
Peter Moore was the heart and soul of the Xbox brand. When he left, all went downhill….fast.

  • Lanmanna

    @Black Fist
I honestly don’t see why people keep buying the 360. Guess they like the restrictions(hard drive), reliability, paying for online features most don’t care about, and the great exclusives? Halo, Gears, and Forza can only get you so far. All of that could be fixed too. Xbox is only hanging on by a thread for me.

Only reason I like the Xbox brand still is due to Live Arcade, the superior online, and that most of my friends have one. I would probably switch to the PS3 side if it wasn’t for the DLC and retail games I have bought. I agree with you for the most part, save for the Rewards. Both Sony and Nintendo make you purchase stuff to get rewards. At least it is better than nothing.

  • KP ScuzzyBunny

Please switch…and don’t come back. Try OnLive or follow through with your PS3 threat. You two being such big fans of XBLA are in for a rude awakening if you get a PS3!

  • DarkTear81

Oh I own both (actually all three) current gen consoles, and even got the 360 after my PS3.
Both have their Pro and Cons.

The online service for the 360 is superior. It’s ok to pay for Party Chat or special features but that’s about it. Beside that, the service has to actually work… I’m paying money for it. Still my region gets shafted when it comes to “exclusive stuff that is part of the gold membership”. Facebook and Twitter? Yeah, I can browse them with my PS3/PC for free and I can actually do more stuff on Facebook. Not mentioning ESPN and such things that we don’t get.

The PS3 on the other hand has better pricing on most stuff, delivers an Internet Browser (I know enough ppl that use it), comes with Bluray, cross-plattform capability (loving to play Monster Hunter for PSP over my PS3) and has IMHO the better movie store. Playstation Plus is a nice addition for ppl who want more. But I’m able to play online FOR FREE. And with Animax for free and this new music channel (didn’t try it out yet) there’s more to come.

The “exclusives” part is something I don’t take into account. I’m a gamer, so it equals what console gets which game… as long as I’m able to play it.

  • MrHaru

    I am so.

    Effing.

Sick. of Call of Duty. Hearing it. Seeing it. Just that it exists. It’s like all the sports games, only it’s 10x more in your face.

  • MrHaru

But no, keep complaining about the system you own and continue playing, AS MUCH as you keep doing these pseudo intellectual posts of how “it sucks” and all that; it makes the rest of us just happier with life.

  • Black Fist

I´m happy that you guys like MS, i just can´t figure out why.
    .
I´m even just going to give you an example, and then you can take it from there, the reward program:
    .
    - Renew 1 month Xbox Live Gold Membership and you get 10 MS for a maximum of 120 a year.
    .
You do know that 10 MS is, more or less, 10 cents, right?
So, if you want to buy a 400 MS XBLA with the reward it takes you almost 3 YEARS and 4 MONTHS.
Now do the math, the gold membership subscription is $9.99 a month (taken from the Xbox dashboard), so, in 3 years (let´s forget the 4 months bit) you would have paid $359.64.
Don´t you feel a bit mocked and insulted?
What is it, charity from MS?
    .
    .
I´m not advocating for Sony (i don´t have a PS3), but at least they give free games with the Playstation Plus.
I´m not saying MS should do the same, but at least is not charity, that is really a reward for having the service.

  • aStrangeDisease

I’ve been playing Xbox since 2002. I think I started playing online in 2003. I paid for high-speed internet just so I could play Xbox Live. It changed gaming for me in so many wonderful ways.
I didn’t get my first computer until 2 years later.
It’s only gotten better and better since then. So many ways to connect to people and media, it’s the most important electronic in my household. I actually have two now because it’s just that awesome. (The new slim is great)
The price of Live has actually not increased at all for me in the 8 years I’ve been using it. It still costs the same $70 it always has in Canada.
I say “good job, Microsoft. I hope my family and I get many more years of entertainment from your services.”

  • DarkGin87

@ Black Fist – if your complaining about MS not giving you free stuff how come you have harms way and Crash course in your list

and also im sure in your area PSN store contents would be the same as what you get on xbox

an play station doesn’t give you free stuff since you PAY for playstation Plus

It just Sony trying to shaft you in a nice way least Microsoft is upfront about it

stop bitching other regions have it worse than you if you don’t like it go to PS3

  • Black Fist

@DarkGin87 – If all you got from my complainings is MS doesn´t give us free stuff, you might need to re-learn how to read.

  • Lil STev0

Black Ops doesn’t deserve those sales.

  • Rinedog

@Black Fist Don’t think for a minute that Sony will not try to charge for online in their next console. They just couldn’t back out of the free online this far into the lifecycle, hence Playstation Plus. I don’t like having to pay for Live as much as the next guy, but it is going to be a fact of an online integrated future.
