Not paying, wish they had the option to do hulu with ads, free, and hulu plus, paid, without…

    • http://twitter.com/litepink_x360a anna smoley

But, that’s the point…the PLUS in Hulu Plus means no ads AND the use of Hulu on other devices.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_U2PWHRMLKAUMISRX4KOQUJPZEY D

        hulu plus has ads

      • http://twitter.com/Ambushbug73 Lee Coursey

You still get adds with Hulu+ to “keep the subscription cost down” according to Hulu.

  • Anonymous

woo hooo hulu plus. ive been wanting to try it out n now ill get the first week free sounds good to me

  • http://profiles.google.com/oripsn ori cohen

    What is the Hulu anyway?

  • Anonymous

I would wish “all Xbox LIVE members (Free or Gold) will be able to enjoy Hulu Plus on Xbox LIVE” this actually meant ALL users. Or does MS forget that not all of the people who are on xbl live in the US. There are many many countries that do not have access to Hulu or Netflix or many of the other features available on xbox live.

  • Anonymous

I think what most people are annoyed about is the fact that Major Nelson didn’t specify that it was US only. Infact, he stated “all Xbox LIVE members (Free or Gold)”.
Still, i’m fairly annoyed that xbox still stands defiant that they will not give people outside of the US some sort of feature not available anywhere else, even though we pay exactly the same amount as people living inside the US. It’s a bit of a kick in the love spuds.

  • http://twitter.com/Thorpe Luke

For all Xbox LIVE members…in the US.

  • http://twitter.com/DirasyajX DX

can i pay for this with ms points?

  • ElektroDragon

That is completely and incredibly awesome… thank you Major! Now if only your stock price would actually go UP when you post good earnings, I’d be very happy! :)

  • kingbenjamin63

I love how a few Americans act all high and mighty about how we complain about things like this, but if it was the other way round they would be bitching like no tomorrow. How about you shut up, we have a right to complain about the lack of stuff added to the European side. Ya sure we have sky player but guess what it sucks no HD streaming, the price of its ludicrous and I hate SKY so where does that put me? Their is so much more Microsoft could do but they choose not to for e.g. Lovefilm, BBC i Player, 4OD among other things come on MS do something for the other regions you charge for your service ok?

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3SA2XXK6NWAMFYN57B7LHO4R4M luke

glad you put “few Americans” cause they dont represent the majority of us :)

    • http://twitter.com/NomPulastra Nom Pulastra

I agree. I hope they’ve got something good to announce for you guys at E3.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/John-Doen/100000933665267 John Doen

It has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with being “high and mighty” but the REALITY that the content is NOT licensed WORLDWIDE.

Just like SKYPLAYER in the UK or FOXTEL in AUS. Don’t like it? Move.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=674106424 Devon Edwards

Nah, I don’t think so John. I’ll just buy a Playstation. Yeah – that’s sounds like a cheaper, easier plan.

      • kingbenjamin63

Oh sorry mate I forgot to add some Americans are stupid as well. If you don’t have anything intelligent to add to the conversation other then “why don’t you move” just stfu and move along.

    • Anonymous

And when you at least have SKY, what do we in the Nordic region of Europe have? Nothing. Really.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=674106424 Devon Edwards

Agreed. Good thing Sony is more forthcoming with features outside of the U.S. I won’t make the same mistake again (buying Xbox)

  • Anonymous

so is the 4oD and ITV player coming to XBL for UK rumours true?

    • http://twitter.com/xixora Damon Stephenson

Still need iPlayer over 4OD or ITV player imo :/

      • Anonymous

can’t see it happening,as they would have to give it to gold and silver members as we all pay the TV license, and i don’t think MS want to do that

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=674106424 Devon Edwards

It’s more likely that the combined initiative between BBC, 4, Itv and 5 (and others) will emerge on PS3. Microsoft won’t play with BBC because BBC wanted to offer iPlayer to Silver members as well (as under Trust guidelines). I have completely given up on Xbox producing anything of interest with respect to TV coverage.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_JFIL67CKG5RKOJBCCC5VVRC5W4 Tom

Awesome but with the increased cost for the yearly xbox live gold membership, why isn’t hulu plus free for gold members. I’m not paying the extra $7.99 a month when you rasied my gold membership by $10.00. Sorry don’t care not paying.

    • http://twitter.com/CXK CXK

Because someone has to pay Hulu, Microsoft doesnt own them. Sure they raised the price but you can easily get it cheaper. I even got it for $39 with a free copy of Kinectimals for the wife and that deal was from the dashboard.

Funny, I was just able to watch all the Jack Link’s Beef Jerky videos and see Hulu Plus,
then backed out and now the Hulu Plus door is closed again.

Hey MajorNelson. There is a problem with the promotion. It says no credit card is needed but asked me for one this morning and charged me even though it said “1 week free” at the top.

    • http://twitter.com/bob101910 Bob B

If you do the 1 week trial it does not ask for a credit card. The 1 month trial does. Maybe you clicked that one.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Stephan-Tenspel/578534292 Stephan Tenspel

And Major Nelson hasn’t updated the message

Major Nelson : What features can I give more to our Americans?

  • Anonymous

I’m glad we got a free trial of it. I was going to pay for a month to see what its like but just saved myself that. I spent 30 minutes scrolling through the programs and movies and could not find a single thing I wanted to watch. Almost watched Eerie indiana but then checked and it was all ready on netflix.

  • http://twitter.com/skunkslayer Chris Taylor

Thanks for the trial but the only things available is the crap on TV I dont watch now. The things I do want to watch are web only.

  • http://twitter.com/bushmaster2000 bushmaster2000

It’ll be good having Netflix and Hulu both on the system. Hulu’s quality is just as good as netflix and they have TV content the day after the air date where as netflix only has seasons that have released on DVD. I could do without the 30 second commercial breaks though, not sure if the commercials are due to the free week or if you still get them as a paying member. I guess I can tolerate on commercial during a break, it’s still way better than broadcast TV.

Of course now with ISP’s capping, it remains to be seen how much IPTV is going to take off. And I can get the major channels free over the air in HD and it doesn’t consume bandwidth on my cap so not sure yet if i’ll subscribe to hulu or not. I’ll have to see what other content they have that I can’t get free already.

  • http://twitter.com/LSpear76 LSpear76

Where’s the option to watch with a party? You said months ago that Hulu Plus was being delayed so the user experience would be like Netflix… parties, etc.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Christian-Armstrong/100001075322903 Christian Armstrong

guess this just another thing the uk does not get.

    • http://twitter.com/TehEmperorsHand Lew

Yup. Everybody always harks on about about “Licensing issues”, but we don’t need to have the same stuff, but local variants. Equal opportunities! We ALL pay for Gold, but only some get any value from it.

  • http://www.revolutionofgaming.net RoG Viper RV

I just downloaded it myself and have been searching for stuff I watch and well, let’s just say that Burn Notice, American Chopper, Sons of Anarchy, Covert Affairs, White Collar, Southland, Memphis Beat, Leverage and NCIS are not available. So I don’t think I will be getting this.

  • http://twitter.com/ChrisInToronto Chris Gaudreau

Hey Larry, you may want to be a little more specific in your posts…

“Through this sponsorship, all Xbox LIVE members (Free or Gold) will be able to enjoy Hulu Plus on Xbox LIVE, no Hulu Plus subscription or Xbox LIVE Gold membership required for an entire week.”

I’m Canadian… and it’s not available to me. So much for “all Xbox LIVE members”. *face palm*

I really wish Microsoft, Hulu and the associated media groups would stop treating us Canadians like second class customers!

    • http://www.Nave360.com Sebastian Gorgon

Its not just Canda Chris… its everyone apart from USA

      • http://www.facebook.com/electroNICimage Nic J Walsh

If you were to look up the word “global” in a US dictionary it would be defined as spanning over all of the USofA, nowhere else.

          lol so true XD

Just like the World Series … where only the US participates!

It’d be nice to have a region specific “Major Nelson”. It’s be nice to have a Canadian representative announcing news relating to Canadians and instead reading about deals or events and getting excited just to find out it’s USA only.

In this case, it’s not Microsoft’s fault that we can’t have Hulu, it’s Hulu themselves who are USA only.

  • Anonymous

I’ve been using HULU for years now on my computer, and I have to say I was impessed with the video quality for HULU Plus. I’ve never even gotten this level of resolution from AT&T or Comcast on the HD service.

The only problem I have is immediately after a video finishes I get an error saying the next queued video can’t be played because of poor network quality. Yet a press of A then Y and I’m off watching the next in queue.

  • http://twitter.com/LukeB4tt Luke Batt

Man, the US version of Xbox Live has SO much more content than NZ, starting to get annoying that we pay the same amount :/

    • http://profiles.google.com/jaygoldberg1989 Jay Goldberg

Blame Hulu not Microsoft/Xbox. Hulu is only available in the US due to licensing issues.

      • http://www.fluffrick.wordpress.com Fluffrick

Yes, believe me – Xbox users in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and other countries are more than aware of licensing issues that don’t affect US Live users.

Instead of defaulting to the ‘Don’t blame Microsoft for licensing restriction X’ defence, perhaps Microsoft should start to think about partnering up with content providers in our locations to offer similar deals at the same time as offers like this.

This has happened enough times for them to be aware of the issue – or is it time to just accept that Major Nelson’t blog regards US Live users as being of primary importance and the rest of the world as being a noisy irritant who has the temerity to complain when their version of the Live service offers less content for the same amount of money?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=681882687 Benjamonious Neveryoumind

I understand the licencing issue, so not xbox fault but that does not mean we can’t get something like netflix or tv on demand. We want more!!

Zune is slowly making its way out. I was under the impression it was supposed to expand this Spring, but I think that’s just further into Europe.

Zune offers both purchasing and rental of videos, as well as the streaming of and purchasing of music.

It’s a good start. A lot of the shows I want to see are still going to have to be DVR’d I guess.

And how hard is it to enable the Kinect commands for up, down, left, right, select and back?

Like I said. A good start, but I’m not going to be able to see Game of Thrones, Dexter, Walking Dead or Adult Swim the way I want it… I guess cable is safe for now.

  • http://twitter.com/bob101910 Bob B

After the month trial, I don’t think I will continue with Hulu Plus. The ads and lack of party support sucks. I’m happy with Netflix.

  • https://twitter.com/#!/BeeDizz BeeDizz

I’ll stick to Netflix. Hulu Plus doesn’t seem worth it to me. Even though both services are limited, Netflix has more of what me and my family watch.

  • http://www.facebook.com/tdupplaw Thomas Dupplaw

worth saying this is USA/North America only. There are other places in the world you know.

  • http://www.facebook.com/david.ingelaere David Ingelaere

And for europe, maybe we will do something if a new console comes to get your attention so you buy it. Then we’ll leave you again cause we got your money. Sure i understand about distributions and licenses … but not even indie games or last fm … The only thing we also got was the higher price … Something we are pleased with …

It’s a great console but Europe is way to often left behind, starting to bother me bigtime

SO I found one series on hulu that I couldn’t find elsewhere and that was Weird Science the series. Last I checked Netflix only had the first season. Everything else I had all ready seen, can get on netflix or don’t care to watch. I would probably use Hulu if I didn’t have a DVR but most the current stuff I can record.

  • http://twitter.com/EV1LSEAN Sean

Yaay! More stuff I pay for but never get to see!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_YVYZN5SUIREBSGLKRLYRAUJV7Y jimmy

any chance at getting this extended for those of us who are unable to take advantage due to lack of power from the storms in N. Alabama. I would love to try Hulu+ but may not have power at my apartment until tuesday at the earliest

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jason-Irwin/513183587 Jason Irwin

There is a way for folks outside the US to get Hulu and Netflix both…though I’m not sure if it will work on the Xbox or not. If you have a router that lets you use a proxy, you can use a proxy and Hulu and Netflix will think your in the US. A few friends of mine in the UK do that on their computers and laptops.

  • Anonymous

Yet again a USA exclusive. Start giving the rest of world something!

  • http://twitter.com/tygercheex Tyger Cheex

Well I have to say that like a lot of others I’m disappointed to see this is yet another USA exclusive, but keep in mind that the price of subscription for the USA went up last year but here in the UK it didn’t! And that to use Hulu I assume you will need to have a “paid” subscription after the trial has expired so unless you arent already a subscriber you arent exactly gaining anything!

Personally I’d like to see some of the “free” services we get here in the UK (like BBC iPlayer, ITVplayer, 4onDemand and the Channel 5 catchup service) come to the xbox for ALL British members! (Gold and Silver) it’s free on a PC & PS3 so why not on Xbox?

  • ElektroDragon

Terrible way to have a “free week” when everything is plastered with constant commercials and most content says “web only”. Really killed my interest in paying for this.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Maurice-Bresnen/100000682450046 Maurice Bresnen

ok so paying for gold will not let us access hulu plus? we have to pay for hulu plus, xbox live gold and for those who have netflix will have to pay for that too to watch it on xbox. Awesome.
