I can only dream that the reason Ms. ‘Splosion Man is so far down the XBLA list is because everybody already bought it.

Interesting that From Dust beat ITSP in ITSP’s debut week.

    • http://twitter.com/regames Re: Games

No, that’s because it’s a rehash and everybody knows it’ll be in a Deal of the Week sometime in the near future. There are original games to be bought first.

      • http://twitter.com/mcmax3000 David

I could not possibly disagree more & your statement really leads me to believe that you’ve either never played the new game or never played the original because the new one adds a lot to the original formula.

        • Anonymous

I’m with David on this one. The game adds a tonne of creativity, with piles of new gameplay mechanics. The level design is a lot more varied than what the original Splosion Man had to offer.

Answer me this – why buy an original game on impulse when you can buy a sequel of a series you are familiar with? We all know the latter is the safer option, and sequels typically tend to improve and refine the overall experience. Original titles (or first title from a series) are more often than not the poorest quality games. For example, I loved Darksiders, but I expect Darksiders 2 to be even better. Thankfully Darksiders wasn’t a risky purchase for me because I was sold the second I read it took a lot from the Zelda N64 games.

And one final question – what is it with people waiting for games to come on deal of the week? If it isn’t worth purchasing for 800 ms points, then why is it worth purchasing for 400 ms points? We aren’t talking a drop from £100 to £50, we are talking drop from  £6.66 to £3.33, the difference of which I spend on a bloody train ticket into town. Why are people so tight with their money when it comes to marketplace purchases, and yet we all buy cinema tickets at rip off prices without even blinking an eye? I sincerely hope Ms. Splosion Man is never on deal of the week.

Every week Game Room shows up yet we haven’t had an update, new games, or any announcements in months. Something? Anything? Please?

    • http://twitter.com/seekul Luke Es

I can’t imagine it will ever be revived.

    • http://twitter.com/regames Re: Games

IIRC the studio responsible for it was canned last year, so it’s probably better not to expect much.

      • Anonymous

There were rumblings that at least one more game pack was finished and ready to go. It’s not like you need a dedicated developer just to post it.

    • http://live.xbox.com/en-US/MyXbox/Profile?gamerTag=FinderKeeper FinderKeeper

I think it might be showing up because Game Room itself (the portal) is free. The list of XBLA games is full versions *purchased*, not number of unique users. So you can expect lots of “purchases” each week by people getting their first 360s. And then when they realize nothing’s being made for it any more, they’ll probably delete it.

      • http://twitter.com/mcmax3000 David

I know at least when it was first released, the purchases were based on actual game purchases, not downloads of the free portal.

Not sure if that’s changed or not.

BF BC2 number 6 looks like people are lookign forward to bf3

GoW2 coming back aswell i cant wait to see the changes next month

  • Anonymous

Clearly people don’t like good games. From Dust? Are you serious? Ms Splosion Man and Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet are both miles better. I’d guess the girly visuals and sounds of Ms Splosion Man were a put-off to a predominantly male community.

    • Anonymous

No thats not what put people off Ms Splosion man……..i was put off because it was basically a copy of what most of us bought 2 years ago.

it really wasn’t a big jump from the last game and once you you don’t need another

They should of just made her as DLC for Splosion man with new missions

      • Anonymous

But if you liked the first one then, going by your arguement of “more of the same”,   why wouldn’t you like the second one? It seems obvious you didn’t like the first one enough.

That said, it really isn’t a simple case of “more of the same”. Yes the gameplay feels familiar and some gameplay mechanics are retained, but isn’t this part of what a good sequel does? Look at the Call of Duty series – every single year we have a copy and paste effort with the multiplayer formula, and yet it never fails to sell MILLIONS of copies (and let’s not forget that sales of CoD have increased year upon year).

On the flip side, one could argue that a game like Resident Evil 4 innovated far TOO much and took a completely different path from the first three games in the series. I guess there is fine line between creating new fans and alienating existing fans. Ms. Splosion Man seemed unlikely to create new fans, but I was really expecting it to please more fans of the first game.

        • Anonymous

Sigh……… i did like the first one but after being in Ms splosion man beta then trying it once it was out

It feels like the same and after the problems the First one had with multiplayer why would people wanna buy the same product just improved

As for your comment about COD well just because it sells loads doesn’t make it a great game, it the same game over and over and the reason it sells so well is because there are too many young kids that play the game and don’t understand it the same game over and over.

Every game whether it be a new IP or part of a franchise is always about creating fans so your comment about “unlikely to create new fans” is exactly why Ms splosion man is were it is on the list, once you have one there is no need for the other

The copy and paste formula doesn’t work for arcade games

It only works for COD because COD has not had any big competition in years
After this year i doubt they will be able to get away with the same formula

The Hero games are a perfect example of this they were milked to death

An as soon as rock band got it own following GH went down the crapper and thats were COD will end up

          • Anonymous

I would like to see something beat Call of Duty in terms of sales, but I think the brand power has ultimate control over gamers. Battlefield 3 looks epic, but I still doubt it will come close to the sales of Modern Warfare 3 because you either like Battlefield or you don’t, whereas with CoD people buy it just because their friends buy it.  The first Modern Warfare was incredible, I’ll give them that, but we haven’t seen any innovation since then aside from the awesome zombie mode. I have a feeling that Treyarch may well make their next Call of Duty title a zombie special :)

          • Anonymous

Sales IMO don’t make the game it could sell 10 mill but people will trade it in some people will trade it in the day it comes out it always happens

            Gameplay wise COD has nothing

Zombies is just another ripp off from  terrorist hunt.
Rainbow six had this before COD did and IMO Rainbow gameplay wise is far better than COD

COD is a pick up and play run and gun FPS which appeals to all the under age kids

Its time to let COD be beaten

COD may win on sales but it don’t mean it the better game, this will be the year i don’t buy COD eventhough i do play both franchises

    • http://twitter.com/karlcramer Karl Cramer

A lot of people never finished the first game, so why would they buy a sequel?

      • Anonymous

Why do you think this was though? Was it not peoples’ taste or was it too hard?

    • http://twitter.com/JohnStratt82 John Stratt

From Dust is original… Ms Splosion Man is basically Splosion Man re-skined

      • Anonymous

There’s a whole pile of new gameplay mechanics in the second game. The game is bursting with creativity. To say it is simply a reskin of the first game is unfair – and the reviews out there agree with me. I’m not sure what the trial version of the game is like, but by the sounds of things it’s not very representative. The game has 50 singleplayer levels, 50 multiplayer levels, hardcore mode making the singleplayer experience even longer and more challenging, plus hundreds of unlockables. Easily one of the best arcade games I’ve bought (and at just 800 ms points).

And to answer the question that you originally posted but then deleted (saw it in my email), no I do not watch Glee. I can’t imagine anything worse on TV. I have to admit that the voice of Ms. Splosion Man annoyed me so I muted her.

    • http://twitter.com/regames Re: Games

I’m with John Stratt and DarkGin87 here. Ms Splosion Man is just a rehash with an extra veneer of difficulty to attract a specific kind of ‘hardcore’ gamer – that sorry one who believes being indie and hard automatically makes a game better. Newsflash: it doesn’t.

      You sir are a genius.

Ouch, From Dust ahead of ITSP.  Bastion and ITSP are the two summer of arcade games for me this year.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Corey-Oliver/1671793086 Corey Oliver

All three titles are amazing and really deserve our money.

  • http://twitter.com/JohnStratt82 John Stratt

I wonder if Activision can have the top 20 spots before the next xbox comes out…. I can see it now…COD across the board.

  • http://twitter.com/fernandofogaca Fernando Fogaça

In Arcade titles Game Room is above Battlefield 1943, it shows ppl are interested on it. So where’s the next game pack (14)?

    • Anonymous

Ive given up any hope to ever see any more updates for Game Room.  So much potential…

    • http://www.facebook.com/kuulamiles Kuula Miles

Game Room is sorrily neglected. In the top 12 this week, we reallly need to get a new developer & some movement on this because it has alot of potential.

    • http://profiles.google.com/thief000 J.A.J.G. Thiéfaine

      I second this!

  • http://twitter.com/darkjester74 darkjester74

Wow, I guess a lot of people are still playing GTA.

Come on Reach, you can beat MW2 one of these days!

    Probably not…

Sweet!  Just got my new Windows phone on Tuesday.  Loving it, only got ilomilo and the free games so far!

Glad to see COD on top.  It really is the most robust online experience.  SP good be better but compared to what else is available, it really is the best online experience.

1-19 xbl games are games where you kill people (or ex-people) or real-world sports games. And all 19 are sequels.

  • http://players.openfeint.com OFErOne (Erwin Ocampo)

I can’t wait to see where @Halfbrick:twitter  ’s Fruit Ninja shows up on the list next week!

  • http://twitter.com/StrikeSudden XboxLiveStrikeSudden
