ESPN App update now available

Last month I told you about the update coming to the ESPN app on Xbox LIVE.  Today that update is now available. ESPN on Xbox LIVE brings you thousands of live events and highlights, including more than 400 college football games, 31 bowl games and more than 75 exclusive games – close to 50 in the first five weeks of the season alone – from ESPN3, including some of the biggest out-of-market showdowns.

As a reminder, the new features launching today include

  • My Sports – ESPN on Xbox LIVE now allows you to choose your favorite sports and teams and designate these channels as “My Sports,” so you can jump directly into the games and content you care most about. ESPN on Xbox LIVE will automatically provide you with a personalized daily feed of news and highlights based on “My Sports,” catching you up on only the teams and sports you care about most.
  • Mini Guide – The Mini Guide gives you a preview and quick access to all the sports content you care about right at the bottom of the screen. Saturday is all about college football, and now you don’t have to miss a moment. Is another game tied up late in the fourth? Instantly switch to that game. Halftime? Play the earlier highlights.
  • Split Screen – Because true sports fans want to watch more than one game at a time, ESPN on Xbox LIVE is adding Split Screen, allowing you to watch two events at once. Watch ESPN3.com live events on both screens or a live event on one while you catch up on news and highlights on the other. You can even control both screens independently, pausing and rewinding each separately so you never miss a second of the action.
  • Voice Control with Kinect  – Focus on your team instead of looking for the remote. Navigate through the Content Guide, skip to the next highlight, or play, pause, and rewind that big play…all with the sound of your voice and the magic of Kinect..
  • ·College Football Scoreboard – ESPN on Xbox LIVE is also adding a live college football scoreboard that you can jump to at any time. You can even use Split Screen to watch the big game on one side of your screen while the live scoreboard occupies the other, keeping you up on all the action from around the country.
  • Reminders – Too many big games to keep track of in your head? Not to worry – ESPN on Xbox LIVE now lets you tag games and set reminders so you never miss a moment.
  • Live Alerts – With new live alerts that surface at the bottom of the screen, ESPN on Xbox LIVE will keep you posted on score changes from around college football, even if you’re not keeping a close eye on the scoreboard.
  • ESPN BottomLine – The addition of the ESPN BottomLine to ESPN on Xbox LIVE keeps you in the know with breaking news and score updates from around the world of sports.

Delivering HD-quality live events and highlights from college football, the NBA, MLB, soccer, golf, tennis and much more, ESPN on Xbox LIVE is free for Xbox LIVE Gold subscribers wherever services are offered. For additional information on ESPN on Xbox LIVE, please visit www.xbox.com/espn.

You must access Xbox LIVE via an ESPN3 participating provider to use this app.

…and still nothing for Time Warner Cable subscribers who already get ESPN3 via Online.

This seriously needs to be fixed.. immediately.

BrightHouse users have the same problem also.

Do you mean it doesn’t work at all for you? I have TWC, it works for me.

The app works in the sense that we can see highlights, but the live events promised (and available to the other affiliated ISPs) are not available to TWC *internet* customers.

So, what do you mean when you say “it works for me”? On your computer or on your 360? And who is your ISP? If you have Time Warner Cable for your TV but a different ISP (such as AT&T) of course it’ll work for you. If Time Warner is your ISP, then you won’t have an access code to enter on the ESPN app on the 360, and you won’t be able to watch live events.

Any update on Time Warner customers Major?  I’ve asked multiple times, and I never get an answer – from ESPN, Time Warner or Microsoft…

You justify your price hike with premium services, yet not everyone has access to those services – while I know it’s not your fault, I still feel like I’m paying 100% and only getting 90% in return…

I thought time warner was supposed to be working weeks ago.

  • muzzymate

    Time Warner?

  • Anonymous

I like the ESPN app but they block all my local MLB games.

How long until I can give Comcast their crappy digital cable box back and just use the xbox?  That would be an extremely valuable addon for the xbox live service.

Do it now, Chris. ESPN app + Media Center = no more crappy cablox.

  • Dean James

Are Time Warner customers going to be able to view live content on ESPN on Xbox at some point soon? We’ve been waiting a long time and ESPN3 is already available on Time Warner. This update looks amazing and I’d love to get a chance to use it.

Means nothing to me until I can watch the NFL Monday night games.

Why did they remove all of the Kinect controls? Major downgrade for Kinect owners. Why are the menu items so small and hard to see? It feels like this interface was designed for a mouse and keyboard, not a remote control or Kinect. The voice navigation lets you call up menus that force you to use a controller. This is awful, how can I get back the old ESPN app?

Why even put ESPN in the Kinect Hub now? It does not work with Kinect anymore.

We always have a downer don’t we.

Sorry I wasn’t born yesterday. They took the PC interface and slapped it on a console, removed Kinect support. It’s bad.

      • http://twitter.com/Snakexeater45 Adam Dietterick

The bigger issue is that customers of TWC and Bright House Cable still cannot fully use this service. But we still pay full price for Gold Membership, but all we can see is highlights. And like the other poster said, the page they linked has not changed for two years.

At least you can admit it.

Yup, I am still aggravated that this doesn’t work with Time Warner. A waste of a space on the dashboard to be sure.

I’m loving the new ESPN app update. Now if they’ll only fix “Kinect Fun Labs” so that IT could work properly.

  • TripQue

I agree with so many of the other posters concerning TWC and ESPN 3 on the 360 not working.  It seems that so many companies (and I am including both TWC AND Microsoft) are charging more and more for less and less service.  Extremely disappointing.

  • Rob Morrison

There is an issue with NCAA teams.  Each team is listed under College Studio as well as under the sport.  For example, NCAAF/Team & College Studio/NCAAF/Team.  To complicate the issue, the team content is different.

    Working great on Charter..

  • http://twitter.com/wtturbev Taylor Turbeville

When will Time Warner Cable users be able to view this content on their xbox 360s? This is getting pretty ridiculous.

Thanks for adding the extra features Mr. Nelson. However, I think the interface, menu, button selections are way too convoluted right now.

US-only service again. Maybe that’s why XB360 is failing in Asia.

It’ll take a bit of getting used to, but I’m liking it so far.  It would be nice if there was an option to toggle the ticker at the bottom to only show scores and updates for the teams and leagues in your Favorites list rather than everything.

Why all this effort and time wasted?  1 vs 100 was fun and done.
So I’m in US, I use a big Cable provider, I can’t get this because I have Time Warner?
What a joke.  So yes, please up my Gold cost, take away what we had, show me stuff I can’t use.

Thanks for the update. Not only do I get screwed by your inability to settle with Time Warner, I now also have the luxury of getting RRoDs after the update. Thanks again for the total lack of lube this time…….

  • Joe Robinson

There are some nice features in this update like side by side, but I have agree that after using it for a day the menus are way worse.

This means Kinect Fun Labs is working?

I’d like to say this is an improvement, but I tried it.

Is Kinect Fun Labs working?  I haven’t heard anything about a fix and I refuse to download it again until there’s a post stating it’s been fixed!

Ugh…X360 @ESPN:twitter update does NOT work well w/ @Logitech:twitter Harmony Remotes; no way to exit out of app  (@XboxSupport:twitter )

    • Anonymous

You must press the start button for the menu screen to exit the app

      • http://players.openfeint.com OFErOne (Erwin Ocampo)

But there is no 360 Start button on the HarmonyOne remote unfortunately (unless I’m totally blind, let me know where if that’s the case)

        • Anonymous

Does your menu button work in place of it?

Nothing in this update matters at all until we Time Warner customers finally get the ESPN3 live streaming from this app that we’ve been promised far too long ago and still have yet to see happen.

  • Adam Thomas

This update renders the ESPN app frustrating and difficult to use.  The new features are not very useful and the old layout with the BIG screencaps was easy to navigate and looked great.  The new layout makes it impossible to scan quickly because the print is small and moves too fast.  For example, scanning “All Sports” looking for “Soccer”; I have to stop every few slides because the new category slides are unreadable, unlike the old vertically-arrayed ones.  Please fix this, or give a layout option or something.  This was the best, easiest to use, and most elegant app on the console; now it is a headache.

  • Justin Stuer

There is no point in me even watching anything using the ESPN app on the 360….There always seems to be a minute or so delay when I watch anything on it compared to if I watch ESPN3 thru my PC.

  • http://www.facebook.com/rich.herminghaus Rich Herminghaus

The ESPN app is broken, I get a connection error every time I try to use it. I have done all the suggested fixes from Xboxsupport and nothing has fixed it…at all. Something in the update has broken the app. It worked flawlessly before.

Same happens to me!!! MS FIX IT!!!!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_NDJNHNFRKV6GHEWDLK7GNMRO4Q Mason

once Time Warner gets off their lazy butts & allows those of us who are customers use this then it would be a cool app, as of now it is just a useless piece of junk on the dashboard.

when is the xbox live system update coming with the new dashboard????????

    • Tyler Frye

      I heard Oct. 8th

It gives me the same thing, it was working wonderfully before.
