Xbox LIVE Preview Program

I’ve gotten a lot of questions asking me if there is going to be a Preview Program for the upcoming dashboard update.  I am working with the teams here on a Preview Program for the new dashboard similar to the one we did last year. I don’t have a time frame or any additional specifics to share right now, but as soon as I do you can be sure I’ll make a blog post. Follow me on twitter to find out the moment I have news to share.

    I’m certainly interested in more information about the upcoming dashboard update in general.

    For example, I’d love to hear a review of it from folks who use the old IR remote and who don’t have a Kinect.  I’m also curious how it performs for child accounts, in the absence of the internet, and in regions where the marketplace is… less supported.

    If we were a part of past preview programs, do we have have to reapply on connect.microsoft or are we good? Will be covered in your next blog post?

      In the past, reapplication has always been required for each preview program so I expect that to be the same again this year.

        On the last one though, with the disc sent out, I didn’t have to re-apply.  So that was interesting.

          They’ve done separate betas where they mostly picked people (Kinect beta, Full House Poker beta, etc.) but the major dashboard updates have required a separate application for each update.

    Yeah, I’d like to know if we have to sign up again as I was part of both the last dashboard preview as well as the beta testing for the new discs. Fun times though, I love seeing stuff before it’s released. Great to know that you guys pay attention to what we bring to your attention while this stuff goes on. :)

    Thank you for an update. I’ve been wondering about this for a while now.  I’m just glad to hear that MS isn’t canning the Preview Programs.  It was fun to have a friend instantly go out and get a Kinect after I was finally able to show it to her.  Word of mouth can be better than printed word sometimes!

      That was only to test the codec for Xbox Live voice chat that improves communication quality. I’m sure they don’t need to make any more changes related to that, so you should still be able to do party chat and private chat with this new preview program (if there is one).

    I hope they finaly enable non-us users to use voice recognition (at least in English language). We pay more for a Kinect, and get just 50% of it’s functionality. I still wonder why Microsoft isn’t sued yet for selling a product with less functionality.

    With that being said, I look forward to the preview and wonder how much different this new dashboard will be compared to the very first when xbox 360 launched. I mean, blades are now titles on top, is the rest all back to what it all started? So loads of unanswered questions to be answered!

    What’s going on with Xbox Live? I haven’t been on in a few days and now I keep getting disconnected and reconnected. Plus when I go to check out the Gears of War 3 videos I just get an error code or the system crashes.
