The beta is ridiculously bad. The amount of shrubs available to hide in and the fact that you have to wait 10 seconds to respawn combined with not being able to open menus to leave the game during matches or during a killcam have made me cancel my pre-order. This game is no different than the other Battlefields. You never see the person who’s shooting at you. The amount of snipers is ridiculous. Hell, all you really have to do is sit back beyond the reach of any gun besides the sniper itself and pick away at enemies, not to mention that you can sneak behind enemy lines and drop a beacon with which your teammates can spawn on.

This wouldn’t so bad if it wasn’t for the fact that the game doesn’t destroy the beacon even after the person who deployed it switches classes. To make matters worst, in order to spot the beacon you literally have to stand on it. The game doesn’t tell you that an enemy has deployed a beacon, so they just keep spawning with a 3 second spawn protection so all they have to do is turn and kill you. If they would just add a red circle on the mini map that tells you the general vicinity of the beacon’s location it wouldn’t be so bad, but they don’t. It’s size and dark coloring makes it nearly impossible to spot. It’s a goddamn easter egg that spawns enemies with guns.  Battlefield games have always appealed to campers and bush wookies. This game is no different. Glad the beta was released else I might just have bought this game.

Oh and it’s not a beta when the game is less than a month from being released. It’s a demo. A demo with more glitches than a beta. To call it a beta is an insult to actual betas. This is more resembles an Alpha build than anything else.

It can still be & probably is a beta.

Beta just means that it’s not final software.

      • Anonymous

It’s just a demo. Jeesh. They put it out, were we not allowed to either accept or decline participation in the demo? I accepted, I accept it kinda sucks. Move on, there are other games to talk about.

        • http://twitter.com/mcmax3000 David

I’m just pointing out that when it was released has nothing to do with it being a beta vs a demo. I’m not defending it at all. I’m actually pretty disappointed by what I’ve played.

But just because it’s close to the game’s release doesn’t suddenly make it a demo and not a beta. When you take into account certification procedures with MS & Sony, the build you’re playing is probably at least a month old, if not older so yes, it can still be a beta, even at this late of a stage.

      I Agree   :-)

    • Ryan McLaughlin

You clearly don’t understand how betas work.

First of all, public beta builds are often forked from the main release, particularly in situations this close to launch. What this means for the user is that while a small team was working on the beta for release, the main game continued to receive polish in the meantime. The game has already gone gold, so any problems that weren’t fixed in that time or escaped the QA teams will be fixed with a day-one patch. Many features are not available because they have been intentionally locked or changed for the beta, the spawn beacon being one of them.

Second of all, as with all public betas nowadays, this is more than likely simply a stress test for the servers and the BattleLog service than a bug-finding mission. The majority of players simply see betas as demos/free early access (like yourself) as opposed to actually using the opportunity to report bugs or get in touch with developers about problems like they were originally supposed to, so developers hardly rely on them as much as they used to. Public betas this large are only ever good for hardware tests and making sure the infrastructure is set for release day.

As for the rest of your problems:

Some people like BF, some people don’t; don’t go into the game expecting it to be entirely different from every other BF game (or worse, to see it turned into Call of Duty) when the formula that works is what players want. Spawn times have always been long; this isn’t a twitchy arcade shooter like Modern Warfare. Players could spawn on other players while behind enemy lines in Bad Company 2, and they always had spawn protection. The beacon simply gives a hard location that can be removed by players looking for it, obviously the game won’t tell players on the other team where it is.

The game relies on teamwork and deliberate movement, or what most Call of Duty players nowadays refer to as “camping” when it actually isn’t, and if a player finds a good cover spot to defend/attack from the game doesn’t punish them by giving the person they killed a spoon-fed guide to their location. Take your time, stick to cover, and don’t charge into battle like a moron and you won’t find yourself getting picked off by “campers and bush wookies”. Call of Duty multiplayer consists of series of showdowns against other players; Battlefield multiplayer consists of actual (virtual) battles.

TL;DR – you’re doing it wrong. If you want to have your hand held, only care about k/d and like to lone-wolf your way to victory, go play Call of Duty. There are many ways to play Battlefield and do well without sitting in one place and trying to pick off enemies (which in most cases results in a loss) but they require teamwork and situational awareness.

On behalf of humanity… TL DR.

You apparently don’t know how marketing works, pump up the BETA, get preorders and laugh as folks like you defend a mediocre at best demo.

        Cheers.

Why can’t we Asians get the beta? That kinda sucks.

I’m having lots of fun with the beta. Gameplay feels more fluid and the higher bullet damage is nice too. It’s hard not to be a little disappointed by the graphics after having seen those beautiful trailers, but the game still looks great. It sounds even better. There are still lots of glitches but the version we’re playing is not the same as the one that is only one month away from release. It can’t be. Quite annoyed by the fact that the menu’s are still impractical and quitting a game is still impossible when not actually in-game. (Hire a new interaction designer DICE!). Now the only thing that needs to be done is unlocking the Caspian Border map for us consoler players because this map alone, in this state, might not convince many non-BF veterans to buy the game.

    • http://twitter.com/mcmax3000 David

“higher bullet damage is nice too”

That’s the part that’s making me not want to buy the game. It has ruined a lot of what made BF:BC2 fun for me.

      • http://twitter.com/seekul Luke Es | sE ekuL

So, now snipers can kill me with HALF a shot? Is that what’s going on? :eyeroll:

        • http://twitter.com/mcmax3000 David

Nah, this is for one of those rare occasions that you actually run into someone that’s using a different gun.

          • Anonymous

Especially one in the hand of a camper that is different than yours, those are apparently still impossible to stop. Monetarily.

    • Anonymous

Really, I was disappointed. Want to know why, short term? It is a suckish demo that needs way too much work for a release that is a week away from being gold or shorter.

Great game.  COD is watered down.  BF3 feels nice and challenging.

I thought this would be the Battlefield game that finally wins me over.  I was wrong.  The graphics, which have been so highly touted, are absolute garbage.  GRAW2 looked better than this game does.  I could forgive that if the gameplay was solid, but apparently they’re just iterating on existing games and not fixing any of the janky problems BF games have always had.  Gonna swing by and cancel my pre-order this weekend.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_CMAVF75KRFIEKVGUOBXYFD64NA Bama

Yeah this is pretty much BF 2.1 The graphics are painful to look at.

  • Shonk .

I really hope this is a 6 month old build
i have alpha/beta tested stuff for over 10 years
and this is nowhere near release

if the game was 6 months away i wouldnt be worried
but its 3 weeks away and there’s no way they are going to fix this up intime

i strongly suspect ea are pushing dice to get it out of the door far too early
    to release before cod

  • http://twitter.com/Ace_Anderson88 Quinn Anderson

Why is it that they can’t seem to fix people falling INTO the ground?  Do you know how hard it is to set up a bipod UNDERGROUND?

  • http://www.facebook.com/Jenkins1791 James Jenkins

    So far… worst game ever.

  • Halo Fan

It’s like they made the Beta to showcase the games flaws and bad design decisions.  Even if this is supposed to be a beta test, they should know better than to put such an obviously broken game out there and advertise it.  Even looking past all the obvious glitches like falling through the map, corpses being able to shoot at you, constant server errors, consoles freezes, an video/audio loss, they decide to show off a Battlefield level without any vehicles?  I’m scared that A vehicles are broken beyond repair, or B they are trying way to hard to be COD and not the classic Battlefield I expect.

They also went way overboard with the upgrades and perks, and all it does is punish anyone that isn’t an early adopter.  Who would want to play another 20 hours of any game just to get to a point where you can evenly compete?  Battlefield 1943 is one of the greatest games to ever be made for the 360, and they have continued to make their games more and more like COD ever since, completely ruining them.

Say what you will about rash decisions, but the Beta convinced me not to buy the game.  Maybe someday DICE will remember that class balance and fair gameplay made Battlefield the great long standing series it is, not perks or graphics.  People that like COD will play COD, people played Battlefield games because they liked Battlefield games.  This new hybrid of the two is simply awkward and unappealing.

Quit whining about the Beta already. A beta has glitches and bugs, so the Battlefield 3 Beta is GOING to have those bugs and glitches. If you’re not gonna get it, great! Means we don’t have to play with whining players. I’m looking forward to play Battlefield 3 on release date.
