UFC on Xbox LIVE launching December 1st

Here is the press release that just went out:

Step into the Octagon and experience the energy of the Ultimate Fighting Championship like never before with the launch of UFC on Xbox LIVE on Dec. 1. Order live UFC pay-per-view events in stunning high definition, access a library of live and on-demand video content, connect with friends to predict fight results, compare fighter stats and records, and more,  all from one “ultimate fight center” – your Xbox 360.*
The ultimate destination for UFC fans, UFC on Xbox LIVE will broadcast its first live pay-per-view fight, UFC 140, from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto on Dec. 10. Catch all the pre-fight excitement in one place with weigh-ins, interviews, event previews, and press conferences, and share your predictions with fellow fans on a friends’ leaderboard, only on Xbox 360.
Headlined by an epic light heavyweight title fight between the devastating Jon Jones and elusive knockout artist Lyoto Machida, and featuring the much-anticipated rematch between former heavyweight champions Frank Mir and Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira, UFC 140 promises to deliver a memorable night of action-packed fights to celebrate the premiere of UFC on Xbox LIVE.
UFC on Xbox LIVE provides the most in-depth UFC content available in one comprehensive location, including:

  • Live and On-Demand Video– Event previews, UFC Countdown, press conferences, weigh-ins, interviews, workouts, highlights, and more, together for the first time on your big screen.
  • Streaming HD Quality in 720p – UFC fans demand stunning HD viewing, and Xbox LIVE brings the most premium streaming HD to the big screen.
  • Pay-Per-View with Ease – The biggest pay-per-view fights available to all Xbox LIVE members in HD and SD pricing options. Purchase directly with your credit card, Microsoft Points not required.
  • Interactive Fight Card with Predictions – Size up the fighters with the tale of the tape and view their past fight results. Predict upcoming fights, compare results with friends for points and bragging rights, and see where you stand against them on the leaderboard, all accessible while watching the fight so you’ll never have to leave the excitement of the Octagon.
  • Control the action with Kinect – Focus on the fight instead of looking for the remote. Navigate through the video content, bring up the Interactive Fight Card, or play, pause, and rewind that big punch, kick or submission…all with the magic of Kinect.

Looking forward to checking this out. I’d love for the app to air the online prelim fights so I can stop having to connect my laptop to the TV every month.

I’ll have to wait until UFC 141 to check it out though since, fingers crossed that I can get tickets next weekend, I’ll be at UFC 140.

Any word on countries or is this US only?

    • http://twitter.com/mcmax3000 David

US & Canada according to the release from a couple of days ago about the TV partners.

    Vai funcionar para o Brasil?

  • http://twitter.com/rogXue Justin Forsythe

wow, I’m not interested in this but it is a HUGE get.  Congrats MS!

  • Thiago de Araújo Fernandes

    Wow, very nice, congratulations!!!
Deve funcionar para o Brasil a princípio também.

Interesting info. I might actually be tempted into watching one or two, depending on the price. The ability to be in party chat with friends watching the same is excellent.

I’m with you. I’ll probably watch some ‘big’ fights. And I got a Live buddy thats into it. Probably watch a few fights with him.

While it’s not as connected as sitting on the same couch, my long distance friends and I like to watch a movie on XBL all at the same time. We start the movie at the same time and then laugh and talk. It’s a great time, and I could see UFC becoming a part of that experience.

One time I was watching the same movie on Netflix, another on Zune, and another played the dvd that he owned. That is amazing.

How easy will it be to get a refund if there’s a problem with the streaming, or if my Xbox suddenly RRODs during the show?

  • Anonymous

Lets hope the price is a lot cheaper since there is no ‘cable’ fees that we should be paying in order to see a PPV.  Otherwise…   Not sure I’d jump on this.

    • http://profiles.google.com/kdorff Kevin Dorff

Oh there’s cable fee’s. Just instead of Comcast they go to Microsoft.

    • http://twitter.com/mcmax3000 David

It will be the same price. Per the UFC’s deals with the PPV providers, they can’t sell the shows for less anywhere else.

  • ElektroDragon

The people who would actually PAY to see this probably have never even heard of an Xbox.

    • http://twitter.com/mcmax3000 David

Having ordered every UFC Pay Per View since UFC 52 except one (which the entire family attended live) and having had an Xbox 360 since launch day, I disagree with your assessment.

      • ElektroDragon

Well, there are always exceptions to unsavory generalizations like mine. :)

    • http://thetjhzone.blogspot.com Tylerh1701

Ya I think that’s a pretty awful generalization too.  I’m pretty sure most the d-bags I watch these fights with at the bars definitely play tons of COD.

That means we can expect new Dash before 1st of DEC? Because live TV required new Dash I guess. Right?

    • http://twitter.com/mcmax3000 David

As far as I can remember, the fall update has always launched in November so it’s a pretty safe assumption that we’ll have it before December 1.

      • http://twitter.com/bat0nas Tomas Misevičius

Last year Dashboard update was just a few days before Kinect launch. I think it was on 1st of NOV. Kinect officially launched on 4th.

        • http://twitter.com/mcmax3000 David

It turns out I was actually quite off…

October 31 (Auto Downloads for XBLA, 1080p, Zune Marketplace)
2007: December 4 (Parental Timer, Inside Xbox, Friends of Friends)
          November 19 (NXE)
          2009: October 23 (Facebook, Twitter, Last.FM)
          2010: November 1 (Kinect)

I’d still say November is likely for this year’s update.

First you tell us the new Gears DLC is free because it is on the disc now this? Awesome.

    • Anonymous

It’s not free…it’s $10. where did you see that?

  • http://thetjhzone.blogspot.com Tylerh1701

Since when is Jones fighting Machida?   What the heck happened to Jones/Evans?  Time to hope on over to a UFC blog to find out.

    • http://twitter.com/mcmax3000 David

Evans still has pins in his hand & they needed a main event for Toronto.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_NDJNHNFRKV6GHEWDLK7GNMRO4Q Mason

oh joy, something else for TWC to block, since it cuts into their profits from pay-per-view orders

    • http://twitter.com/mcmax3000 David

It’s no different than your ability to order PPVs directly from the UFC through their website so nothing should be blocked.

Does TWC actually block stuff or do they just not do deals for services that require deals (ESPN 3, HBO Go, etc.)? There’s a BIG difference between not participating in a service & actually proactively blocking a service.

“The biggest pay-per-view fights available to all Xbox LIVE members” – is this true or just a massive oversight and it is in fact only available to US users?

    • http://twitter.com/mcmax3000 David

US & Canada according to the previous post about the TV partners.

  • Andrew Craig Deutsch

Do the same thing for WWE.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000135743316 Matt Massey

is this available in the UK ????

    • http://twitter.com/mcmax3000 David

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but all of this high-definition content is going to be a problem for a lot of people that have arbitrary bandwidth caps.  The majority of US Internet service providers have monthly caps.  Unless Microsoft is working behind the scenes to try to convince providers to change their policies, this will eat through these caps rather quickly.

    • http://twitter.com/aka_Scratch Scratch

We don’t have or plan to have a cap at the place I work for thankfully.

  • http://twitter.com/aka_Scratch Scratch

This is awesome.  Last year I switched to getting TV from the company I work for.  (it’s free) the biggest thing was I lost PPV.  I can finally have those UFC parties again.  :D

  • http://twitter.com/Annihil88torr Andrew Harrington

Please do the same for WWE, and HBO Boxing.
