Reminder about the Xbox LIVE Preview Program

Are you in the Xbox LIVE Update Fall Public Preview Program and you haven’t yet completed the console registration process? We’ve released the latest dashboard update to this select audience so if you haven’t completed all the steps to get your console added, you’re missing out. But don’t worry, there’s still time to get going! To get started log into the Connect Portal and look for the detailed information under the announcements section: Starting 11/1 – Console Registrations. Thanks again for all of your help

Has there been, or will there be an ETA to when the dashboard will be released to the general public? I have already seen TV ads promoting the new dashboard (and it’s Bing support), but there is no date.

  Considering the UFC Video Service was announced as launching December 1, it’s pretty safe to expect that the update will launch to everyone before the end of November.

  I don’t know about the actual update delivery (how long it happens after registraiton is proceessed) but you can tell registraiton has been processed if you have the “Preview Channel” on your dashboard (just to give you an idea if the registration part is done.)

  Although there is no announced release date, I’d imagine the 25th. That seems be the best time to do it, as it is Black Friday and Microsoft will be wanting to push sales as much as they can. Also with the TV ads promoting it, they must be ready for it to be pushed out soon.
  
  They are doing Preview groups rather than Beta testing groups, so all MS has to do is really tweak it and get general feedback, much shorter than Beta testing where they must look for bugs and glitches and patch those up as well as getting general feedback. I am going to make my guess that it will be out for the 25th or that week (so maybe 22nd if they do it on Tuesday). It seems odd to wait until December, especially when retailers are pushing for holiday shopping already and will be showcasing the xbox in in-store kiosks.

My problem is slightly different. I’m in the preview program, I’ve registered my console and I have the update. But I can’t access the private preview forum; every time I try, I get a “Group Not Found” message.

    I agree with ElektroDragon. I also thought I was ready to go, and then I got the email telling me that I haven’t registered my console. It would have been nice if there had been some kind of announcement on 11/1.

      there was on the connect page…for weeks after sign up the connect page told you to keep checking there…dunno why people didn’t see the notice unless they just assumed they didn’t have to go back (Something the connect page clearly said you needed top do)

        Well, you know, since we’re not paid testers, we’re probably going to be too busy playing games in our spare time rather than keep checking the Connect site. And it’s not like I’m not a dedicated tester, I reported dozens of issues for the Kinect beta. Oh well.

      This new method is kinda like entering in a product key for a beta of a different Microsoft product (e.g. Windows 8 Beta, Windows Server 2013 Beta, or Microsoft Office 2015 beta; NOT saying that there is one NOR have I been in any, but… you get the idea). You first need to get the product key from the Microsoft Connect site.
      
      When they start to allow console registrations (which started last week), you would need to go to the Microsoft Connect site and click “Dashboard” in the top right corner, then “Xbox LIVE Update”.
      
      Or you could just use the link in Major Nelson’s post at the very top.
      
      On the Xbox LIVE Update page, click “Product Keys” from the left navigation and then click “Request New Product Key”. Follow instructions from there.
      
      This product key (or Xbox LIVE Token) is what you need. It should look something like this (five sets of five letters/numbers):
      
      XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
      
      Redeem this code the same way you redeem purchased Microsoft Points or Xbox LIVE Gold subscription cards from retailers (from your Xbox Dashboard).

I’ve been running the beta dashboard for a week now it’s nice. It still doesn’t have the TV and MLB and UFC and YouTube yet. But the layout and design is way better. Plus it now has free streaming music videos and Smart VJ along with Smart DJ, as long as you have a Zune Pass. All the old apps are available still, Zune has a nice new design now that matches the dashboard design.

  It should be next week, though MS won’t say for some reason. The is no beta test for the Fall Update right now, it is just a Preview, which means all they are doing is getting feedback and doing minor tweaks. Most of the major bugs would have been fixed in the closed Alpha tests, then the smaller bugs in the closed beta tests, and now they are having an registered public Preview program.
  
  Next week sounds about rights to wrap up the Preview and be ready for the holiday season. I think MS just doesn’t want to say a particular date and have something unexpected pop up and look bad by pushing back the date. The vague software update date goes for most things MS.

  I got the same email. “You are in the Xbox LIVE Update Fall 2011 Public Preview Program and according to our records you haven’t yet completed the console registration process.” It says that it might be because I am not signed into the right Windows Live ID but as far as know I only have one and I am signed into it….
  
  And half the time I just get an error page: “This site may be experiencing a problem….”

  When it’s ready. But seriously, remember when the dash updates themselves were Spring and Fall? Now it’s the Preview Programs that are named with the season. They have 30 million consoles with 5 years of iterated hardware tweaks to worry about, there is a lot more to test out before flipping the switch. To be locked in to a release date before they know it’s ready would be catastrophic.
