Digging the new format for these lists

    • Victor Cortes

Like this one better myself too. Although as someone already pointed out, it does not display in google reader.

      • Anonymous

Aside from the fact that Major doesn’t get any ad revenue from people who view the site using the RSS feed, I personally would have no reason to expect a Google product to work flawlessly with a Microsoft product (in this case, an Excel spreadsheet).

The lists work flawlessly on my Windows Phone.  Not sure what the issue is.

What’s in the Ubisoft deal? Also, DA2 already? Nice!

  • Павел Ахмадулин

Waiting for Street Fighter Third Strike and Tomb Raider Add-ons discounts :3

  • Anonymous

Arcade version of Scene It? Gotta try that out.

  • Mark B

Any idea how much DA2 might be in the US?

  • Steve LaBounty

Varies by region = costs more than anywhere else

There are literally hundreds of arcade games on the marketplace, the majority of which have never been on sale.  Why is DOTW continually repeats week after week?  Every one of those games listed have been on sale before.  Wasn’t ghostbusters and Lara Croft on sale about two weeks ago?  Your marketing folk definitely are not the sharpest tools in the shed.

    • Tylerh1701

No need for the insult, especially considering that MS has to work out these deals with publishers before they go on sale.  So it’s not just MS deciding what goes on sale each week.

That being said, you’re 100% right.  All these games have been on sale before, some multiple times.  I would like to see at least one piece of new content go on sale each week.  Repeats suck.

    • Jörg

I totally agree. There wasn’t anything on sale for ages that I didn’t already own.

Meanwhile, those games I’m waiting for (Sam & Max Season 2, Flock, Wallace and Gromit 2-4, Bubble Bobble Neo, Interpol, Rush’N Attack: Ex-Patriot, a couple others and LOADS of DLC for XBLA games) never seem to go on sale.

I understand that you have to make 52 deals every year and there are only around 410 games on XBLA (I think) so repetition can’t be avoided. But still, broaden the range a little and don’t do as many repeats in quick succession.

      • FinderKeeper

I believe Interpol has *definitely* been on sale before; Bubble Bobble Neo *might* have been on sale before. I don’t know about the others, though. As far as newer games, it’s normal that they wouldn’t be on sale right away unless the initial sales were disappointing or didn’t meet expectations.

So the games from this last Summer of Arcade will probably go on sale at the end of the year or later, especially the more popular ones.

But yes, a little less repetition would be good.

  • Artur Unrug

FYI, the Excel list doesn’t display in Google Reader.

    • Thomas Geraghty

+1 Please go back to old format, even without links would be better

      • Major Nelson

Just trying things out here, so thanks for the feedback.

  • Abe Bloom

Thank you Major… Ive never paid for Avatar items, and have been waiting since launch for NHL gear. If I can get my Blackhawks jersey, consider this a success!

    • Chris

They have had NHL up for awhile now, this is just an update to the stuff already on the Avatar Marketplace.

  • A B

Wow more crappy deals. I really want to spend some MSP. Why won’t you turds give me something worth buying?

    • Anonymous

I guess their suppose to read your mind and come up with a sale just for you

      • Anonymous

A survey would be the next best thing.

    • Stevor Compton

Way to endear yourself to those that work on this. You might want to expand your vocabulary! Doubt anyone will care about your needs after you call them turds!

    • FinderKeeper

You mean you really want to spend some MSP on sale items, but not on regular-priced items. In which case, beggars can’t be choosers. If you had any manners (and patience), this wouldn’t be an issue. If you really want something now, you’ll have to pay the price it’s at right now. If you don’t want to pay the price it’s at now, you wait. That’s the way the market works.

  • Victor Cortes

    Very good games.

    FF Double Impact
    PoP Classic
    Lara Croft

Too bad I own those already. Let’s hope for a good Ubi sale.

  • Tylerh1701

Why no Super Puzzle Fighter in that Capcom deal?  I have all the rest because they’ve all been on sale before.

  • Phillip Peterson

Wow. Dragon Age 2 on Games on Demand finally. Should’ve been up there back in February. Hundreds of people probably just purchased it for the sale price of $9.99 and the On Demand price will prolly be around 50 – 60 bucks.

    • Anonymous

The Games on Demand games are sold at suggested retail prices, sales/used copies dont count. Retailers are still selling Mortal Kombat at $59.99, so the GoD version is $59.99 US.

  • Joseph Murphy

I think you need to go back to the old way Major – without links, you’re taking business away as people have to LOOK for the material. By hotlinking, you’re essentially making it easier to buy

The easier it is to buy, the easier it is to sell

    • Major Nelson

Joe, I know that. Sometimes I just don’t have time to go through and find all the links.

      • Joseph Murphy

That’s cool Larry, and I appreciate that you’re busy. But with digital distribution, and subsequent profits at an all-time high – Microsoft should be setting time aside/people aside to enable easier access to content – which will drive sales.

        • Major Nelson

Well, I run this blog with my own time/resources and I do the best I can.

          • Joseph Murphy

Larry, I’m not attacking you – just friendly pointers is all. Apologies if I have offended you.

          • Major Nelson

None necessary..but thanks. That’s why I have comments, so we can have the conversation. I am working with the Excel Web App team (who are reading these comments BTW) to figure out a better solution. Clearly for a post like the Black Friday sales post, the Excel Web App is fantastic. Lot’s of data that you can sort on. For something like this small table, it makes more sense for me to build a straight HTML table.

          • Stephan Tenspel

@all, Major does a great job with this. He could also not doing this and we had to find out ourselves. But Major is such a good person do let us know this . Thanks for the info Major :)

        • FinderKeeper

I don’t think links are necessary in the blog. The primary reason is this: these are *future* sale items. That is, if you click through on the links right now, the items will be at their regular price.

By the time the sales occur, this post will be several posts down, if not off the front page altogether.

For those who are concerned about knowing when the items are actually on sale, I’d recommend using one of the various twitter accounts that track such things (including Major Nelson’s twitter account). Some of those will include links to the relevant Games Marketplace web page.

      • Julie

If you ever need volunteers to help with some of the mundane stuff, let me know.  I’m always looking for a way I can contribute to the community in some way.

    • Major Nelson

Joe, I know that. Sometimes I just don’t have time to go through and find all the links.

  • Dave Aman

Larry, could you change the listing back to plain text?  It seems to me it’s taking longer to load the page because it’s loading an excel spreadsheet than it would take to just show plain text.  My phone is just showing me a loading circle where the list is supposed to be, but the rest of the page loads instantly.  In other news, looks like I’m finally gonna pick up the Laura Croft game I keep hearing so much about.

  • Pace McCulloch

It also does not show in feed readers. :(

  • doctorcowley

Major, I dont think that info for the Magic 2012 Add-on is correct. Deck expansion one came out at the begining of the month, it actually puled me away from skyrim :O

  • Anonymous

Yawn… I appreciate the sales, not knocking them, but wake me up when Skydrive, Rock of Ages, Trenched, or Toy Soldiers CW go on sale. It seems like the same titles/publishers are on sale.  If a title goes on sale more than twice, it should just be a permanent price drop.

    • Anonymous

Hasn’t Trenched been on sale already once? I thought I remembered seriously considering picking it up because it was on sale.

      I could be wrong though.

      • Anonymous

Not that I’ve seen. I would have grabbed it in an instant had it been.

      • Tylerh1701

I don’t believe it has.  Like McWetty, I would have bought it for sure if it had been.

      • Anonymous

Now that trenched is morphing to “IRON BRIGADE” will be perfect timing for a discount…

        • Bennijin Turbo

Won’t happen since it hits Europe tomorrow, which is basically a whole new launch.

I hope that Portuguese prat is happy.

  • Bennijin Turbo

These deals aren’t bad, there’s definitely some good stuff up there, it’s just that we’ve had them before. The exact same deals at the exact same prices. Great if you already own them, I’d just like a little more variety. If you’re going to repeat deals, and people DO miss them, then throw in some new ones for good measure?

Just off the top of my head, here’s some more Capcom games that could and should have been thrown in. Many of them have NEVER been on offer!
1942 Joint Strike (not a bad game, 400 far more palatable, should just be permanently dropped)
Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 (see above)
Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 (okay, that’s cheating since it was 320 the other day)
Street Fighter III Third Strike OE + DLC (still needs patching, options menu doesn’t work)
Dead Rising 2 Case Zero/Case West (been on sale tons of time but eh, throw ‘em in)
    Rocketmen: Axis of Evil
Bionic Commando Rearmed 1/2 (1 is VASTLY superior)
Megaman 9/10 (fun fact: 9 has NEVER been on sale while 10 has multiple times)
FLOCK! (Been on sale on every format except XBLA, nobody bought it at launch either because 1200 is far too much)

Not to mention all the DLC for Capcom’s large retail library. Is anyone really buying those Street Fighter costume packs? They’re at least 400% overpriced and have been on sale on other formats.
Saying that you can call almost every Capcom DLC ever overpriced…

Okay so some of them have been on sale before, but the point is if you’re gonna have a Capcom sale, go large! Same goes for other publishers, Capcom just seemed the most relevant.

Fun fact: I think Trouble Witches Neo is the only Shmup to EVER have a discount. Seen a lot of rumblings from Shmup fans here in the past, a Shmup week would be very nice.

Can’t wait for that Mercury Hg add-on, love that game. Everyone should give it a try, okay the game plus DLC is a blatant attempt to shill an 800pt game for 880 but it’s SO worth it.

  • Abe Bloom

When there is an Avatar update, does it update past purchases, add new items, or what? I want to buy an NHL jersey, but if a new one is a week away I will hold off. If I buy it now, will the update be free if it is modified?

    • Bennijin Turbo

Usually it just means new items. For example when the Club Football (soccer) collection was uppdated it added the 2011-2012 kits, but the 2010-2011 season’s outfits are still available.

Even so you’re probably better off waiting and seeing. It’s only a week.

      • FinderKeeper

Definitely curious to see which schools and/or items will be added to the University Collection. Hopefully a lot more schools; there are a lot of college students and alumni out there who like showing their school spirit.

  • Abel Diaz

I will say that this page couldn’t load on my iPod, but I’m also not carrying around my 360 and TV with me, so other than impatience (which I suffer from), changing it to the old format is not necessary. On the old format, I often had problems reading some of the data, but I never said a word…. because it wasn’t that big of a deal.

For the record, great job Major. I’m sure you are trying the best you can and I personally appreciate you willing to try new things for this blog.

  • Jason Scarpelli

Does anyone know if Major Nelson even answers people’s tweets?

    • David Shultz

      He answers Steptos tweets

      • Jason Scarpelli

Good for this Steptos person I want mine answered lol

        • J. Major

I wouldn’t answer tweets if I were him either. I can only imagine how many tweets, emails, messages, and pm’s he must get a day.

    • Zak Hayer

He doesn’t answer mine…:(, maybe he will someday….

  • Joe

Another week, another two terrible, recycled Deals of the Week. Guardian of Light for example has already been discounted ages ago.

  • Daniel Brady

Well, it is better than the embarrassment that was the Xbox Black Friday sale. I am actually looking forward to picking up Prince of Persia and Ghostbusters. Crossing my fingers the Ubisoft sale will be good… if not, ther is always the practically giveaway prices over on STEAM…

  • J.A.J.G. Thiéfaine

Why is Scene It North America only? We had all the previous games here in Europe so why not this XBLA one?

    • Bennijin Turbo

Well last week the US didn’t get Who Wants To Be A Millionaire so let’s call it balance.

I bet the real reason is something to do with movie licenses though, I’d imagine the laws for downloads aren’t as clear-cut as they are for retail titles.

  • Josh Rounds

Cool, might have to pick up Prince of Persia when it goes on sale.  Also can’t wait to see what new stuff comes out for the University Collection tomorrow, hopefully some stuff for my team.

  • Paul Vera Espinoza

when portal 2 and alice madness returns on GOD ?

  • Eike Haußig

    6 dec. Battlefield 3 Client Patch 2?

  • Heyallo

says there is a Magic the Gathering Deck Expansion for Nov 30. and the deck pack 1 was released on the 16th (or 15th, It says 16th for me) I bought 500pts for this release when i turns out i already had it from like 2 weeks earlier

  • Anonymous

Why does Microsoft take so long to release the BF3 patch for Xbox 360?

  • Jadrien Roberts

Sonic generations? dont we already have stuff for sonic? or is it new stuff?
