New Apps now available for your Xbox 360

Following up on last weeks Xbox 360 system update, today we have released the following twelve customized entertainment apps to the Xbox LIVE service:

blinkbox (UK): blinkbox gives access to a wide range of movies online. With more than 10,000 movies titles movie fans can watch their favorite films immediately with no additional subscription required.
iHeartRadio (U.S.): Listen to more than 800 of the nation’s most popular live broadcast radio stations from 150 U.S. cities or create your own Custom Stations with the New iHeartRadio.
MSN (Australia, Canada, Germany, Italy, Mexico, US and UK): MSN brings you the latest breaking news, sports, celebrity gossip and more from around the globe. MSNBC content is available in the U.S. version of the app only.
MUZU.TV (Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden and UK): MUZU.TV the music video site, offers nearly 80,000 music videos at your command. Brand new releases from the world’s biggest artists, great music videos from every decade, up and coming bands and the latest music news and interviews.
Rogers On Demand (Canada): Rogers On Demand provides select TV shows and movies to everyone for FREE. Rogers customers can also catch up on their favorite premium programming anytime, from anywhere in Canada.
SBS ON DEMAND (Australia): SBS ON DEMAND is a catch up TV service that lets you watch full episodes, of your favorite SBS television programs.
TMZ (Canada, U.S.): Your all-access pass to the latest TMZ entertainment stories and breaking news videos everyone is talking about!
RTVE (Spain): Complete episodes from series, news programs, documentaries and the best Spanish audiovisual content from RTVE.

The YouTube app is pretty cool. I’ve been using it for a couple of days. I had skipped the Rogers app because I figured it was only for Rogers customers, however, this post implies differently so I’ll check it out.

Has a release date been announced for HBO Go yet? Other than the Comcast app (which I hear is due early 2012) that is the only other one I am really anticipating. YouTube is great. I’ve had it on my blu-ray player but the interface on the xbox is so much better!

Now they just need to fix the reference levels to stop videos looking grey and washed out, this has been reported numerous times and they just seems to be ignoring it. Also Blinkbox doesn’t give you access to any of the free movies and TV shows that are available on their website.

Why is there not a queued list of YouTube subscriptions from ALL your subscriptions like on YouTube/all other apps. You have to go through each subscriber to see what content has been uploaded, and that seems like an oversight. Also, why is the quality so bad? I don’t seem to be getting videos in HD for some reason.

I would weep tears of joy if Amazon VOD would come to the 360. I’ve been trying to find something to replace my Roku, and that one feature keeps me hanging on. The last thing I need the Xbox to do is stream my blu-ray movies (file/folder, or MKV I’m not picky). A blu-ray in the hands of a 4 year old is no bueno.

It took almost 10 years for Xbox live to reach
countries like Greece or Portugal… I suppose a few more years would not hurt
anyone; for a service like YouTube which btw, is available in my country
through numerous other devices… from my good old PC to my “smart”
TV… now how smart Xbox is really?

I am in the
preview program (new dashboard) and the only new feature I have to test is…
the new UI… nothing more…
No Kinect voice commands (surprise), no apps (app market is just… empty), no YouTube,
no… no…

Okay, seriously—YouTube only for Xbox Live Gold members is just utterly ridiculous. YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Netflix—all can be done on other platforms without needing to pay an extra free, and nothing about the Xbox 360 implementations are worth having them locked away only to subscribers.

It’s baffling how much Live Silver members are made to feel like second-class citizens. (And I say this as somebody who pays for Gold.)

The Blinkbox app is pretty weak. You can browse the content, but can’t actually buy or rent anything. To do that requires a PC with a web browser… Not exactly very well thought out there Microsoft.

And all the free Blinkbox content is blocked on the 360. Oh and even if you jump through all the hoops to actually rent something, it’s in SD….
Better not to add poor apps at all, as it just makes the service look bad.
