Xbox 12 Days Of Deals: Day 5

Street Fighter III: Online Edition

The Xbox LIVE Arcade game Street Fighter 3 Online Edition is today’s deal. Grab it for 600 points

Arcade, Deal, Marketplace By Larry Hryb, Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson

  • Lee Rayson

i bought 3000 ms points so far i aint used any on these daily deals, disappointment so far

hope they do a really good one for xmas day instead of trying sell games that didn’t do so well

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Joe-Adanac/100001237455741 Joe Adanac

This is a mega corporation here Lee. Do you really think they’re going to give away anything for less than they could charge for it? Nope. Hence what we usually end up with in these sorts of sales are the turds that don’t sell. The exception is Steam, but then they’re not a publicly traded corporation so they’re less evil, and are allowed  to think past the next earnings quarter about other things like the importance of building loyalty among their consumers. There’s a reason people hate Wall Street right now, and the whole system it represents.

      • Lee Rayson

thats not what bugs me about these deals, they should be something for everyone, todays deal is for the fighter or street fighter fan,

but if you are a street fighter fan chances are you already own this or other retail games.

i see today deal as i way to try bump the sales figures for the game that didn’t sell well when it was realeased.

  • Anonymous

Nice! Bought 4200 MSP, and already gave out 1200 + this awesome deal right now. Thanks Microsoft.

  • http://twitter.com/ENich1 E.Nich

    Gonna get it, thanks.

  • http://twitter.com/AntaraelDulacre Antarael Dulacre

*Sigh* so the leaked list really came true….will be the “last” deal I’m gonna get on this list =/
Rest of the year….only repetetive deals…

    • doctorcowley

I think the Gears DLC one will be okay as its a new game and not had stuff on sale yet, same with Forza 4. But the rest of the deals are pretty weak. Also note that COD stuff will be on sale, thats a bit of a christmas miracle right there

      • http://twitter.com/AntaraelDulacre Antarael Dulacre

Would be even better if I hadn’t bought the Pass instantly…ande yeah new game stuff is available in this list true..but would really like some other deals than all the dlc or maybe just throw in some good arcade games…well at least I got Bastion…(but they had more than 50% off on last year deals)

      • Anonymous

If the list is true (which it seems to be), I’ll definitely be jumping on the Forza 4 Season Pass as I haven’t picked up any of the DLC for that game yet.

    • Lee Rayson

what was this leaked list? link to it please or PM me it

  • http://twitter.com/ConkerSupport Conker

Why are people always bitching? This is a pretty good deal. These 12 days of christmas deals are WAY better than the cyber monday and black friday deals. Bastion for 600 points was amazing and this is another great deal on a game I’ve had my eye on. Thinking about picking up PvsZ and insanely twisted shadow planet as well. Deff an improvement

    • http://twitter.com/ninJaeS Jaes Anthony

I missed the Bastion deal. Traveling. Not over it just yet.

      • Brendon Mitchell

you should have purchased Bastion online then have it queued on your 360 when you get home

  • Anonymous

Glad to see more 1/2 priced high quality games. Hoping to see more addons though. Thanks.

    • run_saber

1/2? these game is real value 800msp, and with a discount of 200msp??????????????????????? VERY LOL

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jan-Vaclavik/100000506187042 Jan Václavík

        Real value?

      • Anonymous

hm, no, the normal price is 1200, pretty sure about this. its a capcom game, afetr all, they’re all overpriced, remember? :P

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_XOTBJKUR4IW74YLQH2LHQTE2BU Kairu

Lol, we all know what the other deals are, so you might as well put the appalling list up. I’m surprised MS even pay their employees.

  • Anonymous

Merry Christmas Major Nelson and fellow gamers. First time posting here, yay! First, allow me to go a bit off topic: Major, is the dashboard team looking at the forum about the new dashboard? I have posted couple of things that need immediate fixing (sorts by date) and other tips to try and make it better.

Regarding the 12 day sale: It appears that the leaked list has been confirmed. There are some nice things but lets not forget that might be because Microsoft set the bar super low with the BF and CM sales. As it seems to be, it looks like I might get just one item. Is this a victory for this sale? I wouldn’t be so sure.

The Forza 4 content I can not buy because I recently got an 03-57-00 error for disc 1 and Microsoft expects me to shell $20 for a replacement; I don’t care for Fruit Ninja Kinect; I sold Halo Reach because maps were spread among various modes, even with Forge it felt like too few maps; I already have all the RDR I want (I recommend UN); I passed on COD this year; lets wait to see what Gears 3 brings; and Sonic CD is already at a nice “impulse buy” price.

Quite frankly Steam curb stomps any special sale from any other game market place – all year long. I thought things were about to get good for 360 when Torchlight was on sale (which I unintentionally missed).

    • Anonymous

Im tired of reading comments from people comparing steam sales to xbox live. And Ive been buying stuff off both steam and xbox live arcade, but whatever your thoughts are on this sale, steam has no place whatsoever in it.

      • http://twitter.com/trezzer Thomas Würgler

Well, I suppose it does as far as customers having a finite amount of money and they’ll be spending them on the platforms they care about. It’s a bit of a waster opportunity for MS, because I’m spending most of my money on Steam and iOS App Store where the best deals are. Still bought Bastion, though. That was a decent offer for sure.

      • Anonymous

No? If two grocery stores are selling the a Turkey and one is selling it for 80% off and the other for 20% off you should tell people at the 80% off store.. “Hey, there’s a better deal elsewhere”. We live in a capitalist society – it’s what makes companies competitive.

Portal was the best example of this. Saved so much money and got extra content for a lot less over at Steam. They’re discounting more but making it up on volume. Called the Paul C Buff effect.

        • Hugoku

Well, let’s say Chevrolet autoparts is having a sale. Then Ford does the same. They both sell autoparts but they don’t really compete with each other as no matter how cheap the Chevy parts are, if I have a Ford I’ll buy them for those.

Unless you have both, then you take advantage of both sales.
Like I did with Steam and XBLA.

          • Anonymous

Precisely, they are two different markets, selling to two different groups of audiences, for the most part. What happens on steam has no influence on xbox live whatsoever.

          • Anonymous

Very true – but sometimes the situation is this: I’ve bought a Chevrolet and now I’m looking at a Ford because they do the same function and are in the same class. The thing is the Ford is much cheaper over time. I’ll just rent the Chevrolet.

Meaning – I do see your point. There’s certain things XBOX has the Steam doesn’t. At the end of the day if they’re both video gaming products and if the same title appears then I’ll just go for the cheaper one.

It’s got to the point where I’m finding myself buying loads of Steam games. It wasn’t that way even two years ago. Though, I was only one year old then.

          • Anonymous

            Youre three?!?

      • Anonymous

agree with you, XBL has absolutely nothing to do with STEAM. STEAM is way ahead and the gold standard in terms of digital distribution, and XBL has still a lot to learn from Gabe’s company. definitely agree with you.

        • Anonymous

Awesome, then go get a pc and install steam, but that doesnt really affect microsofts method of doing business. Theyre two seperate entities that exist completely independant from one another, there’s nothing realistic about rambling about how xbox live needs to more like steam. They have more than proven that fact.

          • Anonymous

guess every forum has somebody hired to troll around and defend the owner… fitting name for sure

          • Anonymous

If you dont like being told what you dont want to hear, thats your problem, and I dont think this sale is amazing myself. But all youre doing is rambling about xbox live not being something it isnt, and will never be, so youre going to complain about something, go into it with some perspective, and be realistic about it, something a lot of these comments lack.

          • Anonymous

who do you think you are to be giving me lessons?! i know that self-righteous “commentators” like you are a dime a dozen all over the forums, but your insistence on pushing your view is just sad. im a costumer like anyone else, and i have the right to say i find this sale lackluster, and to think that LIVE is badly run. if you dont like that, its your view and opinion. so far ive spent 30$ on Steam, nothing on Live. If i were a microsoft exec, i would fire the person responsible for the sales. my opinion. if you think that everything is well, good for you. but itll be a cold day in hell when somebody like you is telling me what to say and think.

          • Anonymous

Thanks for completely misinterpreting everything I said. You were not even close to getting what I just said.

          • Anonymous

misinterpreting? i got everything loud and clear. your supposed to have been enlighted about what LIVE actually is, and i dont, oh… and supposedly im somebody who doesnt like to be told the truth, which apparently you get to decide what its all about. apparently i should even thank you. and guess what, youre right. Both Steam and Live are digital distribution platforms, both sell indie and retail games and have sales (i see the difference right there). but Live has a heavy handed approach to its business model, Steam doesn’t. Live has like 10% of the offer Steam has. So, yeah, they’re clearly not the same. you were clearly right, Live is miles behind steam. can i dislike Live? can i feel sorry for the missed opportunity that Live is? do i have your permission to do so? please?!

            …less!

          • Anonymous

Clearly Ive been arguing with a three year old this whole time, sorry I dont mean to pick on children.

          • Anonymous

your problem is to think that your initial comment was an enlightenment to us all, and that we failed to understand the truth. “Desert_Crawler” actually posts a good comment, and you go all judgmental on him, because YOU think Live is different than Steam. It isn’t, a lot of games are the same, and both exist to digitally distribute games, be it indie or retail. What separates them is the attitude. Live has a heavy handed approach and is actually regressing in quality and offer (developers are going elsewhere; as the profit margins and M$ impositions are destroying their sales). Steam is going from strength to strength, and imposing itself as the most important digital distribution service in the games business. Now, that clearly annoys you, but its what i think and what a lot of the forums and press thinks. And from what ive been hearing around the industry, its what a lot of Microsoft staffers are thinking too. A missed opportunity is what best defines Live. Live and Steam are the same, and i gave you examples why. If you think otherwise, thats only your opinion, not the truth. you didnt care to back it up, just have been going all judgmental all over the place, posing as the know-all, and calling me childish, instead of backing up your claims. guess thats the way to go in a internet discussion. cheers

          • Anonymous

No I think that your a petulent child who misses the point. I wasnt trying to be judgementnal, nor do I find it annoying that he was expressing his simple concerns (or anyone here who didnt take it overboard), I just responded by stated a simple fact, clearly, you dont like being told what you dont want to hear, and I find that very childish, thats what annoys me about your particular comments, they all seem rude and childish.

          • Anonymous

look, i was already playing games when you were still in your dads ballsack, so drop the attitude. if anyone is being childish, its you. again you talk like you made a unquestionable point, yet im still waiting for you to give me a valid reason why Live is not in the same market as Steam, and why it should not evolve into a better service. A large part of the catalog is the same, and only difference is the platform, which i dont think is enough of a difference. If you dont agree with this, its your opinion, but hardly a fact like you claimed in your 1st post. And unlike you said, i have no problem in you thinking the opposite. But if you go on the net blasting out comments in that particular tone (“im sick of this and that…”) without backing them up with facts, you honestly cant expect me/anyone to agree with you. i fail to see why im childish? because i disagree? i think Live is doing a bad job as an digital distribution channel. it started promissing, but just like Game Room, it has been badly managed and lost its shinne to (heck, im not even going to say Steam) to PSN. does that make me childish? Remeber, this discussion started about this fact, and you saying that “no, live is a different, no comparison possible, …”…. hm, just no.

          • Anonymous

“and the only difference is platform” You just answered your own question, that is precisely what makes them different. Different platforms with different audiences they arent comparable because they dont exist in the same market, not because their content isnt comparable, I dont care if you agree or disagree, thats how it is, I could go on about the factors that make xbox live different from steam, but this argument has gone on long enough. You were being childish because you grossly misinterpreted my comments as offensive and attacked them, its childish for a grown man or woman to take something as trivial as video games so seriously, thats why I called you childish.

          • Anonymous

do you honnestly think that i bother to reply because i actually care about your personal view on the Live service. honestly, its more in the spirit of seeing how self-absorbed one can be. see yourself as a sociological test subject, if you will. and you’ve been quite fascinating… but i digress. anyway, not going to reply anymore. guess youre used to just say anything in real life and get away with it, so why not act the same here, huh? youre hands down the most childish person ive met online, and clearly an offspring of the “me” generation.

fact is, the industry is inching towards a digital only distribution model. the xbox is in competition with the ps3, wii, steam & onlive. Fact. so is its digital distribution service (Live). even if you think it is alone in a bubble, its not by any means. in the past, i would go 1st to xbox live for my indie/arcade digital fix, today i go to PSN or Steam, considering 75% of the games on offer are the same. i choose the platform that better suits the gameplay. people migrate between services, because people own various gaming systems. so, how come they’re not competing with each other?!? and lets not forget, the majority of the big releases are nowadays multiplatform, and having bought a PC a couple of months ago, today i don’t even dream of buying a multiplatform game on the xbox anymore, even less a indie game. still not competing? the other day, bought “Meat Boy “on steam… but was before that thinking of buying it on Live.

during this “conversation”, all you did was storm the initial post with “im sick that you all compare live to steam”, because “live is not competing with anything outside the 360″, without elaborating or giving an example why. you said so, so its a fact (!?). I, gave you examples to back up my opinion, yet you only reply is “your childish”? replies like that make you the grown up here?
again, not even going to bother reading your reply. have a nice year and grow up. cheers

  • Caduz Pedroni

Microsoft can only be kidding, what great promotions until now was the only one who took the Bastion. You can not understand a company like Microsoft make no promotion of games release, Steam is really unmatched in thepromotional item.

  • http://twitter.com/Beltsu Beltsu

Well, so far… I just took Bastion and Renegade Ops. Give us more interesting game promotions, pls, like Iron Brigade (Trenched), for instance. We’d apreciate it. ;)`

And Major Nelso… Feliz Natal, from Portugal!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_KZ7NI75SAJ5SEI2FUXAJR2ABCA A B

I remember spending so much on this sale last year. This year (along with the Black Friday & Cyber Monday sale) is pretty pathetic. I have MSP I want to spend, why won’t you give me something worth spending them on?

  • Anonymous

    BTW I R DISAPPOINT.

  • http://twitter.com/DannysDreams Danny Dreams

    Terrible Xmas sale is TERRIBLE!

Sort it out guys, this is pathetic. I stocked up on MSP in hopes of plenty of great arcade games going on sale. Instead it is this terribly poor sale.

With the amount of high quality titles released on XBLA this year surely Microsoft would want to discount many so as to get a lot more sales that they wouldnt get otherwise?

Come on you arent winning any fans by being so uncharitable, especially at Christmas!

  • http://www.facebook.com/Vannos Sebastian Gsellmann

Major, these deals have sucked. I know as the community manager you didnt pick the deals, but I can only hope that you are communicating the overwhelming negative community response to what we’ve seen to those who did pick them. If the leaked list holds true, and there is no suprise boxing day “we’re sorry sale”, then thats too bad.

    • http://twitter.com/MKTheory John Doe

Either he won’t, he doesn’t or M$ just doesn’t care, otherwise Microsoft would had known better from their crappy Black Friday/Cyber Monday deal in November. With that said, give up hope.

  • Anonymous

Hei Major, have you ever heard of the STEAM sales? Still wondering, why STEAM is kicking the living daylights out of GFWL/XBLA? ill give you 3 guesses!

    • Anonymous

      Newsflash, its not!

      • Anonymous

your opinion… doesnt make it so

  • http://twitter.com/Navarin Bennijin Turbo

This is a pretty good deal, Third Strike is probably the best Street Fighter game overall.

It’s not enough though, you should be doing more deals and the deals should be better. 50% is the least you should be doing, not the most!

Also over at PSN, almost every bit of Capcom content is on sale. Nearly all of it.

  • http://twitter.com/MKTheory John Doe

Well, at least the Gears of War 3 discounts will be worth it, I hope. If they make RAAM shadow for 600 MSP THAT will be a Merry Christmas for me and will totally make up for the lost of Bastion. Don’t disappoint me Microsoft.

    • http://twitter.com/Navarin Bennijin Turbo

I wouldn’t hold your breath, I reckon we’ll get maybe the Weapon Skins cheaper (but you shouldn’t buy that on-disc SCAM for less than free) and we know the Season Pass is on offer, don’t reckon they’ll cut much off the price though. I hope I’m wrong.

They should chop the prices of the Lancer and Hammerburst props right down to like 40 points considering their imminent deslist, a last-gasp money grab. Would be nice if they chopped the price of the Santa Gears Armour too, a bit like how you can buy cards cheaper a few days after Xmas for NEXT year.

Oh yeah the no guns Avatar policy is reinstated on New Years’ Day because apparently Avatars are for children and children don’t like guns. It’s the one time I wish MS -WOULD- put money above all else.

  • Hugoku

This is a nice deal. Got this and hopefully we’ll see a Gears season pass deal.
Not sure why would someone complain about this one in particular since it’s the first time it’s been on sale and it’s a fairly recent release.

And guys, Steam is Steam. XBLA does not compete with Steam as they are on different platforms.
And if you like Steam so much then go over there and buy some games. I know I did.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_XOTBJKUR4IW74YLQH2LHQTE2BU Kairu

      lol

  • Anonymous

I have to agree.  The first day was great, more titles of the quality like Bastion please!

  • http://www.facebook.com/mikelovesmegan Mike McMeans

My hope was irrational, but I was hoping there would be a new game or two dropped for a discounted price. Like maybe an appearance by Trials Evolution at half the price it will actually be. I have looked through the whole game catalog, and I own all of the games I care about, so it does nothing for me to have deals on old games.

  • ElektroDragon

Still too much.  Tomorrow better be epic.

  • http://twitter.com/AntaraelDulacre Antarael Dulacre

Fruit Ninja on sale….any hope lost the leaked list being a fake =/

  • David

I just saw the leaked list which has been right so far and not one single deal this year that I care for or don’t already have.  Was really hoping for some more recent arcade games sales or a few more games on demand. I was thinking that Fight Night Champion on the 26th would have been good since in Canada it’s boxing day. I’m not Canadian but just saying. Plus I haven’t seen the Dragon Age 2 dlc discounted ever so that would have been nice as well. And 2 days in a row with just a single arcade game, for Christmas if it is Fruit Ninja you are only pleasing the Kinect owners when on a day like Christmas  MS should be trying to appeal to a much larger audience. Besides Fruit Ninja and Gunslinger comes free with most of the Kinect bundles around here when purchased new at normal price. So I could get them pretty much for free instead of paying a discounted price.  MS saddens me another year, I give them lots of money and they give me nothing to be excited about.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Thad-Vein/100000485146280 Thad Vein

M$ has done a lot of great things with Live and the 360 in general. But i agree , the sales are pretty lame.  i wish they would just adopt the apple scheme.  i keep buying games on the app store because i think “omg, at that price i can’t afford not to buy it!”   even thou i still haven’t played most of the games i bought last year.
Instead we get 30% off DLC of some game i stopped playing 3 months ago… or an over priced game comes to it’s senses for a day and we’re supposed to be jazzed.

it’s kinda crazy really. i’ve been a gold member for almost 9years… i own over 120 arcade games.  probably thousands of $$ (i’m afraid to do the math)  and not once have i ever received any kind of email or message saying “hey, you buy a lot of %$#&, thanks for that.”
You might think i’m being needy… but my satellite provider thanks me every month.. regardless of whether i pay them.

-i would just like a little appreciation.   The other day i received my free gift from Nintendo for being a gold member (or whatever)   and I spent way more money on xbox live then i did on Nintendo products.   Even PSN’s sales are better than 360′s… it’s pretty scroogy.

The only half decent deal so far was Bastion, which I finally decided to buy… a few days before it went on sale.  but it’s ok, i’m not bitter or anything.

      Merry Xmas M$

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_7UBRQ7BZBSWOXXMCKQ4QDOVA5Y Alice

I’ve been a loyal Xbox customer since the original Xbox, Spent no doubt thousands of dollars on games and content. But with these crappy Christmas deals and deals of the week being not much better, Microsoft you stole my Christmas cheer! I know companies have to make a profit, But you’re just profiting with no regard for the average customers feelings… I’m going to playstation with the Next generation of consoles, Because i can’t take this butt hurt from your crappy deals any longer…
Good bye my old friend… I hope one day you come back into your prime…

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Charles-Francis/571120513 Charles Francis

With deals of the week offering a new deal every week, and with events like this coming I don’t see why everybody is complaining. Honestly the impression you get from gamers online is that they are a bunch of crybabies. I for one have enjoyed a lot of the sales, and I ussually only spend my points when there is a sale. Drop the entitlement, Microsoft owes you nothing, your (and the community’s) money speaks for itself.
