Start Exploring For Free

After downloading “Microsoft Flight” for free, players can jump into hours of exciting gameplay on the Big Island of Hawaii.

In addition, players who sign in to their Games for Windows – LIVE account automatically receive additional free content, including the legendary Boeing Stearman plane, supplementary missions, and access to Achievements and an Online Pilot Profile. Those looking to deepen their experience can purchase and download additional content that adds new aircraft, regions and customization options. The frequently released new content for “Microsoft Flight” includes daily aerocache challenges and updates that make every flight unique and fun.

Be the First to Fly the Definitive Light Sport Aircraft ICON A5

Microsoft Studios worked with the personal airplane manufacturing team at ICON Aircraft to give aviation fans the exclusive opportunity to fly the all-new ICON A5 before real-world production starts at the end of 2012. Designed by the world-class aeronautical engineers behind the Voyager spaceship, X-Prize winning SpaceShipOne, and Virgin Galatic’s SpaceShipTwo, the ICON A5 is the “jet ski for the skies,” a high-wing amphibious monoplane with a carbon fiber airframe and a comfortable, automobile-inspired cockpit with space for two. The ICON A5 will be the first aircraft available to players for free in “Microsoft Flight.”

“ICON Aircraft and ‘Microsoft Flight’ both share the goal of making the fun of flying accessible to everyone who’s ever dreamed about it. ICON does this by fusing world-class product design with the very best engineering, and Microsoft by combining the excitement of a great gaming experience with the authenticity of a top notch flight simulator,” said ICON Aircraft CEO Kirk Hawkins.

Be the First to Experience “Microsoft Flight”

Today the team behind “Microsoft Flight” released an exclusive video that features all-new footage of “Microsoft Flight.” To view it, visit: http://www.microsoft.com/games/flight/. Additionally, the launch sequence has begun! Be among the first to try “Microsoft Flight” by signing up for the closed beta. The voyage continues at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas from January 10 – 13. Those that attend will have the chance to play “Microsoft Flight” before it releases this spring at the Microsoft booth, located in the Central Hall.

Update: I clarified that this is coming to PC since there was some confusion in the comments

Looks good, ive signed up for the Beta.
Been looking for a good flight sim for ages.
Always loved Crimson Skies (I know not true flight sim) it gave me the bug so to speak for wanting to learn to fly!

  • http://twitter.com/yamayamayaamaa «-•·÷·- ¥ámá -·÷·•-»

If I know the aviation nut the Major Nelson is, then he is going to be hooked on this game. I can’t wait to try it myself!
    :)

Is this for xbox 360 or pc? if xbox 360 then SWEEEETTTT been looking forward to a actual flight sim for my console for years now ! BRING IT ON !!!

    • Anonymous

Battlefield 3 has both SU Flankers, F35′s (and both recon and attack helicopters on the 360).  ;)

    • Anonymous

      It’s PC.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1588818685 Paul Kelly

Stupid question: Is this an XBL or PC title?

  • Danny Hogan

oh that sucks its for pc only, oh well ill keep dreaming :(  Kind of confusing posting it on a xbox 360 orientated site

  • Anonymous

    XBox too, please.

I remember Flight Simulator from the DOS days, just casually flying around with no goals or score or anything in a decent (for its day) simulator, and I’ve wanted that for the XBox 360 almost since the day I got mine.

(And I’ll confess, it’d kinda be neat to talk to the AI traffic controllers over the radio via Kinect, if that could be made to work.)

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=674106424 Devon Edwards

So it’s confirmed…Hawaii only.  How much for the rest of the world that used to be free?

    • http://twitter.com/timgaastra Tim Gaastra

      Used to be free? When?

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Rabbitc-Finklestein/100002063064487 Rabbitc Finklestein

bad choice of wording…but lets see if you can get everything you got in FSX for the same price as before.

    • Charles Mecklenburg

It was never free you paid for it by purchasing the entire game which cost upwards of 50 dollars depending on the version.  So you get Hawaii for Free and have to pay for the other regions.  The proper question would be how will those be priced…

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Rabbitc-Finklestein/100002063064487 Rabbitc Finklestein

Well if the rest of the world costs $50 all-in, you will have a point.  I suspect it won’t however…

At any rate, Hawaii only is not a sim for any of us who have been doing it as long as I have. I hope the rest of the world, at the very least, will be available on release and for a nominal price.

  • b knight

When will it be available for 360?

  • Anonymous

will it be coming to xbox?

  • http://twitter.com/mightyfiregoat mighty goat

    super monday night combat PLEASE!!!!!

  • Peter M.

Great that Major Nelson also posts some news about pc games here.
I hope we’ll soon here some news for the alan wake and ms splosion man pc versions.

    • The Dukenator

Alan Wake is coming to PC, but where did you hear Ms. Splosion Man was coming to PC?

      • Peter M.

Its was spotted in the steam registry. And its already rated by pegi, esrb and usk.

        • BadManDuke

Don’t be surprised if MS put a stop to that now that they own Twisted Pixel.

          • Peter M.

So? Microsoft owns Lionhead and the fable franchise and that didn’t stop them to put fable 3 on steam.

          • BadManDuke

MS was publisher for both versions of Fable III though. They typically aren’t the publisher of titles that also release on PC.

Not saying it still won’t possible come out for PC, but I won’t be suprised if it never does.

Where are the crude humor or mild violence? That the E for everyone show?

    • http://twitter.com/Rockerman42 Chaz Oswald

Mild violence: probably crashing/ explosions. Crude humor: maybe the pilot saying things?

      • Anonymous

I recorded the dialog for this game and it’s not the pilot…unfortunately I can’t tell you until it comes out due to an NDA…

  • http://the72pins.com DaftBot

I love flight sims that are fun and casual. This should be a great pick up for me.

  • http://twitter.com/AnXboxDude Xbox Dude

    I can’t wait!!!

  • Anonymous

Looks pretty good for a free game.  Think I’ll pick this one up.  Reminds me of Pilotwings.

  • http://www.facebook.com/CNLeandro Leandro Nascimento

OMG!!!!! I’m real pilot of Boeing 737-800, and I love the Flight Simulator X… I can’t wait for the new Microsoft Flight!!! I’m so excited!!!!!

    • http://twitter.com/ENich1 E.Nich

Whoa, I never thought that a real pilot would play flight simulators. I mean, aren’t you tired of flying everyday? If I were a pilot, I guess I’d relax playing something not related to it.

    • http://twitter.com/ENich1 E.Nich

      • http://www.facebook.com/DavidARedding Dave Redding

The only reason folks spend the god awful amount of money to be underpaid flying bus drivers is because of the passion for flight.

        • http://twitter.com/ENich1 E.Nich

Yeah, I see that now ;)

          • Sergio Sanchez

I am a pilot myself and FSX and X-plane help me keep on top of things. Plus, is cheaper to crash in the simulator when performing IFR training than it is in a real plane

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1435280938 Houston Genaux

actually, the nice part for a real pilot being able to Flight Sim a plane he fly’s in FSX is the simple fact he can set it to have random failures, for he can self drill himself on emergency procedures.

    • Sergio Sanchez

Sorry… You will have to PAY to fly the 737. Not mentioning you will have to PAY to fly it from LAX to NY

  • DHX

Goodness me, my heart nearly skipped a beat there… Thought for a second that this might be coming out for 360 when I saw it posted here! Man, don’t scare me like that! Scared of it coming to 360? Nooo! Scared that I might have damaged my head if it hit the ceiling had I jumped up in pure excitement!

Still, this is good news, especially about the Cheevs! Been on the BETA list for a while… FSX is nice and all, but MMMMMM, FLIIIIIIIIGHT…..

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1467432708 Kevin Jin

Honestly, to all those who say they wish it was an Xbox 360 release, if a non-combat flight simulator was released for consoles, it would be much more better suited for the PS3. Flight Simulator has always been CPU bound, and although the Xbox 360 has an arguably better GPU and a CPU that is better for general purpose stuff (which is why graphics on Xbox are usually deemed better), the PS3′s Cell processor is many times more powerful than the Xenon for the level of processing needed for flight simulator. Not to mention all PS3 controllers, the new DualShock 3′s and the older ones, come equipped with Sixaxis, which I feel like is a pretty good input method for flight control. Just imagine getting a cheap floor stand that lets you seat a controller and you can use the Sixaxis to pull back, pull forward, or rotate left and right… *drools*.

ok go away with your PS3 love of things

  • https://larud.myopenid.com/ Rudi Larno

Whoohooo, time to get my trusty old logitec flight joystick back out of its box. (If I get in the beta that is)

  • http://twitter.com/twistedtech twistedtech

Release it for Xbox or STFU.

    • http://twitter.com/Duncan_J_MacF Duncan MacFarlane

@twitter-18210127:disqus Excuse me, but you have the Halo franchise as well as the Gears of War franchise on XBox, you’ve got enough Microsoft exclusivity to last a lifetime.

      • Peter M.

Halo and Gears of war are also on pc.
And its just a matter of time until the successors will follow.

        • http://twitter.com/Duncan_J_MacF Duncan MacFarlane

I cannot see that happening, they missed their mark by waiting too long. And Cliffy B seems to despise PC gamers, so no more Gears of War.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_T7LOQAEEWPFE7UBMQGVCTNELQI huck

who said anyhting about exclusivity? …chump

        • http://twitter.com/Duncan_J_MacF Duncan MacFarlane

All I’m saying is, let the PC shine for once, I’m sick of getting delayed or shoddy console ports.

    • http://twitter.com/aleksands Daniel Aleksandersen

I would also want this for my Xbox.

  • http://profiles.google.com/rogan2134 frank medina

oh hey, finallya  reason to geta  flight stick and use eyefinity

  • Anonymous

    Nice! ;)

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Timothy-Handy/780661382 Timothy Handy

WTF..NO SDK no airlines,no chance for for 2nd party addons such as PMDG being able to do addons for MS Flight…WOW that sucks!!!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Rabbitc-Finklestein/100002063064487 Rabbitc Finklestein

where did it say ‘no addons’?

      • Sergio Sanchez

“Those looking to deepen their experience can
purchase and download additional content that adds new aircraft, regions
and customization options”If you belong to a VA you will have to buy the plane and any scenery you want to fly into.

I’ll bet its more than you and I make….

  • Anonymous

Major, why haven’t you made a post about the EA Publisher Sale yet? We’re already into the 2nd day of it now. I’m sure we’d all like to have a quick reference post for it without having to rely on the info posted in comments or trying to find where it’s buried in the Dashboard.

    • http://twitter.com/spartannhilator Zak Hayer

I agree i thought that was weird as well…

  • http://twitter.com/Pennenridder Michiel Wetzer

Can this be right? Is it really true that I have to put up with MS marketing in the XBOX newsletter?

    You just lost a reader.

  • http://profiles.google.com/j.camerons Cameron Stevens

This looks interesting but frankly I’d like to see this hit the XBOX itself.

  • http://twitter.com/SlapAHoeTribe_ John Witherspoon

This isn’t a simulator. This is merely just a game. Long live FSX/FS9; The true simulators.

    • http://twitter.com/zaghy2zy Ivan Lapis

It still is a simulator… not quite polished at current state, however. But cockpit controls for everything is still there, it’s just that when you initially play the game you’ll be given the “noobs way” and they later on you can opt to use the same FSX sim controls you have loved. Right now, like I said, it’s not yet polished and a lot still needs to be done.

Are you saying the game if free or the beta is free? If the game is free hats off to MS!
