Arcade, Deal, Demo, Game Add-on, Xbox 360 Games On Demand By Larry Hryb, Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson

    Deal Of The WEAK, again.
Bastion was on sale like a month ago.

  • http://thetjhzone.blogspot.com Tylerh1701

Boo @ DotWs! Repeats are so lame.

  • http://twitter.com/Inaba_kun Inaba-kun

Given that Duke Forever goes for around £5 on disc now, the games on demand price will surely be comical.

    • http://twitter.com/ENich1 E.Nich

20€ aparently. I would gladly pay about 10-15 for a digital game, 20 as the limit. After all, that way they don’t have any hardware cost, they shouldn’t try to make us pay like they actually had.

That said, I paid 10€ for my DNF game, it’s a no no to pay 20€ for a digital one (I would pay 5-10 just to have it in the hardrive and don’t be bothered with the disc when I want to play).

    • Anonymous

I wouldnt even take $60 to play that game, so I know its overpriced.

  • http://twitter.com/Inaba_kun Inaba-kun

Oh and it goes without saying, but when it comes to deals, PSN is so far ahead of XBLA it’s impossible to imagine you guys ever catching up. They give away entire retail games for free to PS+ subscribers…

    • Anonymous

And considering how PSN absolutely pales in comparison to Steam, that just goes to show XBL Deals of the Week are the lowest of the low.

When are they going to start offering good deals? All this outcrying cannot go unnoticed, can it?
I remember when the Xbox marketing staff actually knew what a deal was.

      • Anonymous

No one cares about steam (majoritywise), stop bringing them up.

        • Anonymous

          Why not?

Competition is healthy for consumers and if MS would take heed of Steam, then they might one day be in the same league as them in regards to the quality of their deals.

And Steam has over 40 million users who are regularly subjected to excellent, fair deals and they don’t pay one dime to access the service.

          • Anonymous

They dont compete with steam. Consoles do not compete with PC games, they subsidize PC multiplatform games. If you think they dont, then you are factually wrong.

          • Anonymous

Okay, then let’s say PSN is the benchmark.

XBL is still a rip-off when it comes to deals.
There’s no way you can spin it.

          • Anonymous

Right, but thats still not saying much.

          • Stefan Brouwers

It ‘s like this for months now, maketplace is a joke.
I was looking through the PS Store last week after been away from it for over a year. The full games on there even have multiple version. Not like XBL where must of the good stuff is in french in a region where everyone speaks dutch and english.
I downloaded Halo and i got the german version. After speaking to MS about this they could only refund my MS points that I used on it. Instead of correcting this they chose the easy way out.

          • Anonymous

I have a PC so STEAM does compete very much with XboxLive.

          • Anonymous

Don’t let that tool troll you on this subject!

        • Peter M.

          lol, are you serious?
Steam has 40 million users. And many of the xbox timed exclusives like alan wake, fable 3 or limbo are on steam with better graphics and controls, free online and dont forget about all the great sales.

          • Anonymous

Really, better controls for platformers and horror games?

Didn’t know AW or Limbo have multiplayer.

          • Peter M.

            This was just an example.
Games like Gears of war, halo 2 and monday night combat have free multiplayer on pc.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=623372153 Mark Ryan Haemig

they give away free PS1 games, and they gave away free ps3 games after all of the PSN user data was compromised and PSN was down for a month and a half.  PS+ is worthless.

FYI i play most game on my PS3.   Only play Xbox exclusives on PSN.

      • Anonymous

More money has been lost to hacking on the Xbox than the PS3. As far as we know, not one cent was wrongly spent after the PSN fiasco whereas on Xbox Live, people are getting their accounts hacked daily. The hackers then use any CC info on the account to buy MS points.

And if Anonymous (or whoever the perpetrators were) had decided to attack Xbox Live instead of PSN, the exact same thing would have happened except that MS wouldn’t have the decency to provide the affected users with free games.

Don’t think that because you pay for XBL Gold, the service is impenetrable to outside attacks, because that’s simply not true. It’s just as secure as PSN, which is to say, not very.

        • http://twitter.com/MKTheory John Doe

First off, Xbox Live had experience a downtime in 2007 in December, they apologized by giving everyone a free Xbox Live Arcade game. So yes, Microsoft does have the decency to provide a “I’m sorry” gift.

Second, to say that Microsoft is just as secure as the PSN is laughable. During that era of PSN downtime, more company websites were getting hacked, even Nintendo. Sony and Nintendo caught it, but the Xbox Live site remain untouched. Lack of interest or untouchable?

People getting their Xbox Live accounts hacked has nothing to do with Microsoft’s security, I can’t believe people are still thinking that. It’s because people are still falling victim into phising scams, at least that’s what has been “officially” stated by both Microsoft and EA.
I personally, believe that EA’s servers or something of the like got hacked.
If you only understand how easy it is to make an EA Account directly from your Xbox 360. Same emails/passwords = easy access. While part of that is to blame the person who made the account, but the other part (in my speculation) is EA’s faulty security.
EA claims that it’s not their fault, but I don’t buy it, but Microsoft is definitely in the clear.

      • http://twitter.com/MKTheory John Doe

“Only play Xbox exclusives on PSN”

I want you to realize what you just said right there.

    • http://twitter.com/GreenMistt Miller

Completely agree, even though the deals are personal preference, MS just throws the same deals out throughout the year :/

  • Anonymous

I missed Bastion the first time, so I’m definitely looking forward to grabbing it next week.

  • http://twitter.com/godofrawr Ian Erb

I know this might seem simple… but no one “owes” anyone a sale. The sales on Steam hurt developers. Most people simply wait for the Steam 75% off sales. From a consumer perspective it’s “ok” but less money to devs equals less games, so we lose in the long run.. not that any of you fools care.

    • Anonymous

When you pay 60 quid a year to access XBL Gold and all of it’s “amazing exclusive” features along with the promise of these so called “Deals” of the Week, you’d expect to get a bone thrown your way once in a while.

If it was a free service, I wouldn’t feel like I was owed anything, but sadly that’s not the case.

      • Anonymous

        Sadly, its not,..

    • http://twitter.com/SithKnightmare Nathan

On those sales on Steam and the like, it’s not really hurting devs that much, if any. The sales typically will come off the margin that the retailer makes on the product, the actual price for the return on the product isn’t impacted much.

  • Anonymous

Bastion going on sale for 50% off = Buying it.

  • http://twitter.com/studash78 Stuart Davis

Why do we need a demo of the First Templar?!?!

    • Lee Rayson

because some people maybe interested in it before buying it, even if it has been out a while

      • http://twitter.com/T9X69 Chris Carlson

Yup. I’ve actually been interested in it, but haven’t brought myself to even rent it. That demo may change my mind ^_^

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_T7LOQAEEWPFE7UBMQGVCTNELQI huck

so u know to avoid it?

  • Anonymous

I was either going to something good on sale, something new on games on demand, or put my money towards a new PS3. Guess my money’s going towards that new PS3

    • http://thetjhzone.blogspot.com Tylerh1701

      Go away

      • Anonymous

Shut it, I dont need people agreeing with me.

        • Anonymous

          I agree with you.

You don’t need people agreeing with you.

          • Anonymous

C rap, you got me, I cant reply to that.

          • Anonymous

            DUCK SEASON, FIRE!

          • http://twitter.com/MKTheory John Doe

Christ, I laughed so hard at that. Thank you.

      • Anonymous

Youre taking my comments too seriously, I wouldnt do that.

  • Anonymous

Nothing new interesting on XBLA this and next week. Sad panda. :( Ah well, just got Dark Souls and Rayman Origins, which will make me busy for a while.

  • http://thetjhzone.blogspot.com Tylerh1701

There was a Rockstar DLC sale last week. AND both this week and next week’s deals were part of the Holiday sales not even a full month ago.  Are you guys serious, or just trolling us at this point?  Just absolutely awful guys.

  • Anonymous

    SMH… re-deal fail.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_MCKY7RB2MQEY473X4TYXY26O5M hugh J

Nobody has an excuse now not to play Bastion at 600 points that deal is a steal. Also If they are going to be bringing back old deal can we at least get Mass Effect 2 DLC on sale I missed it last time

  • http://twitter.com/AntaraelDulacre Antarael Dulacre

Nice trolling on DotW here…..Christmals Sales were pathetic already but this is…well I have no word for this…

  • http://twitter.com/mathuthe Mathias Olivera

It’s funny… I bought the L.A. Noire season pass (a waste of money, tbh) when it came out, and now this week there’s NO option for me… I bought Bastion full price when it came out, and next week there’s NO option for me… So there’s NOTHING for me to buy on sale for two weeks. Way to go, Major and Microsoft… You rock :)

    • Anonymous

Hey, you shut your….. keyboard, whatever, LA Noire is a good game.

  • Anonymous

Like someone else posted, I am starting to feel like being trolled by Microsft’s lame DOTWs. Its been now four weeks of nothing, for me at least. In my particular case I have been playing little multiplayer so my Gold Account has started to grow a “?” sign. The LIVE service has gotten “better” or should I say bigger, but only the gaming side is what caters to me.

Back on topic, I suppose next week will be good for anyone who missed on Bastion.

All this stuff was on sale during the holiday sale. This is so disappointing. Oh well, if you missed Bastion’s one day sale, you should definitely pick it up next week.

  • http://twitter.com/SithKnightmare Nathan

Nothing for me this week, but I’ll pick up Bastion next week.

  • http://twitter.com/Navarin Bennijin Turbo

Puddle for 800? Wow, I thought it was gonna be 400 considering it’s basically an XBLIG that got lucky enough to not be on XBLIG. Looks like I’ll be checking out Quarrel then…

Yeah these sales are a joke. The add-ons together are 800, the pass has been that once and less than that TWICE. Anyone who missed them before really should pass on them again, or grab the complete edition.

And Bastion, great though it is, should be complimenting another sale rather than being the whole sale. Why not just have a massive freakin’ BLOWOUT on XBLA? Been a while since you’ve had one of those. Too long.

Not pleasing everyone isn’t the same as not pleasing anyone.

  • http://www.facebook.com/stefangabbert Stefan Gabbert

I don`t care about all your postings. Because what really matters is…When is the release of Trials Evolution???
If you feel the same, thumbs up.

    • fsdfg dsfds

Yeah we waiting for Trials EVO, my Guess is they will milk it till stupid winter of arcade at the very end of the year, of coarse it will be the last to be released also

    • http://twitter.com/ENich1 E.Nich

I’m waiting to Trials Evo just in hope that Trials HD will have a price drop xD

  • http://twitter.com/MKTheory John Doe

For ONE damn day. Which was easily missable. Are you kidding me? No one should complain about this.

  • Anonymous

More crappy Rockstar stuff on DOTW?

SYNDICATE demo, though? That is awesome.

  • fsdfg dsfds

Puddle,Quarrel,Rhythm party……….. WTF XBLA is so crappy at the moment i havnt bothered getting MS points in along time

  • Anonymous

So… I got Bastion less than a month ago… and now it’s being discounted again. I haven’t touched it yet but I had the “at least I got it cheap”.

There’s people out building up backlog cause reduced prices but doing it so often makes it feel like the discounted price was the one to begin with or just need a permanent price drop.

Years ago I started basically buying everything that came out wich caugh my interest, then started waiting for discounts. By now I’m pretty convinced I should take the stuff I intend to play AT THE MOMENT. It will be cheaper to pay 2 extra bucks for a game out of DOTW than to acumulate games for the sake of “saving”.

  • http://www.myspace.com/576933061 Fred

It would be really great to showcase the “titles that time forgot”; games newcomers to XBLA may have missed when they first came out.

I’m thinking games like Power-Up Forever, Ion Assault, Go Go Break Steady, Mutant Storm… some of the older ones that were quite good but have since been forgotten.

  • Anonymous

Seems like Scarygirl has dropped the price from 1200 – > 800MSP, only one week after release. Yet another example why most of the games should cost maximum 800MSP. Otherwise no one buys them.

    • http://twitter.com/AntaraelDulacre Antarael Dulacre

It was announced for 800 Points but came out for 1200 Points…maybe just a correction..

      • http://twitter.com/Navarin Bennijin Turbo

Nope, it was the equivalent over on the other network too, it being 800 was misinformation. My guess is it sold sod all.

  • Anonymous

    @Peter M . Halo2 on Steam?

Besides all of those were created for the gamepad.

  • 郷 大谷

Bastion mata hangaku kayo. kondo koso kaoukana.
