Another issue with the new update is that I was able to do 2D to 3D for games like Gears of War 3 with no problems and now I discovered (after some time playing with my TV and xbox) that I have to lower the resolution output of the console to 720p of 1080i otherwise my TV does not give me the option to go 3D any more. And the issue is that the image quality gets seriously downgraded. Is weird the display information on my TV use to say “1080p HD”, now it recognizes it as “1920X1080″.

So whatever was fixed (I never experienced a problem before) it completely screwed the resolution of the console and my ability to use my 3DTV at 1080p resolution.

Unable to download the update at all, it loads 1/4 of the update, goes backwards a little, then stops and tells me to check my network status. I checked my internet router, everything’s fine, called my IPS, everything is still fine. Nicely done, Xbox. You’ve managed to roll out an un-needed update that I’m unable to download, thus not allowing me to connect to LIVE to watch netflix of play online. I’ve read through these comments, and noticed out-dated consoles are unable, and that can’t be the problem. I’m on the Gears of War 3 Limited Edition console. Also, the status code doesn’t even exist. I’ve searched it on your site, and google. Nothing found. Any ideas rather than calling xbox to hear the out-dated console claim against me again?

Dont know if u fixed it but reset ur router and modem power every thang that uses internet off and up plug ur modem and router for 5 min then plug in ur modem let it boot up then do ur router and then try

-warning- Wall of text, but with several suggestions I really think you should forward to your design team –

My xbox doesn’t feel personal at all! When I start my xbox I see promotions for music artists I never heard about everywhere. Actually, my xbla games are pushed way back and it takes way too many actions to get to them. Why can’t the main pane show links straight to my most used features/xbla games, maybe even give the option to pin them myself (THAT would be awesome, my 6 year old could find his own games the moment he logs in on his account, now I have to search and start them for him).

I understand you want to have a consistent metro style across all your platforms, but you adopted only the looks, not the features (personalisation, all info you want on 1 screen). Some features have actually become almost impossible to find (here is a trivial challenge I bet you can’t do within a minute: change your avatar gamerpicture on your xbox console).
I liked how every week I could see all new demos, xbla games, full games right next to each other, only divided by a simple flick with your left poke. Now everything requires a lot more navigating, wich is exactly what I hated about the ps3 interface.

An entire pane just for a search field? Come on now. If I wanted to search, I want to do it from anywhere, not scroll all the way back to the first pane: Put the search option under the xbox button instead, preferably with links that take your straight to your most used locations.

The mediaplayer options doesn’t feel integrated at all. We have the mediacenter extender and the zune media player. I feel that zune should be integrated in the mediacenter app. It is possible to play media from remote shares, but you can’t access that feature from either of those 2 apps: Instead it’s hidden in the metro panels. Again: I really feel playing from dlna shares belongs in the mediacenter app.

it is really set up just like you say it is, its bad i mean i love change dont get me wrong but it just takes forever to navigate. People probably read our comments that work there and are like nope, they dont know they always cry. But its just so obvious and not in an offensive way but its filled with bugs and like you say i want to use an app some of them try to install themselves every time others work its just like wow i cant believe im paying i would understand more if it were a free service. I dont understand because Major uses this service most of it is just like a lot of things in america is the people designing it are there just to get paid they dont actually use the service/product, but major does thats whats so weird.

My picture quality is now completey messed up since yesterday’s update!

I own a calibrated Panasonic THX Plasma TV.

It’s an open secret that the gamma curve output by the 360 is all but
perfect (especially when compared to the almost perfect one of the PS3),
you have to set your TV to Gamma 2.0 to get as close as possible to
reference.

Since the dashboard update in fall 2011 it seemed to have gotten better,
gamma 2.2 (which usually is the defined home standard) worked just fine
(except vor video).

But since yesterday, the picture (at least when showing photos which is
how I feed testpics for calibration to the 360) is WAY too dark, I have
to set my TV’s brightness to +8 (0 is normal) – resulting in correct
photo and real-time graphics reproduction, but WAY to bright video and
dashboard wallpaper reproduction – or too dark pictures and real-time
graphics when setting brightness to 0.

Meaning: There is no universal picture setting now, something is always wrong!

No offense intended – but what are you guys doing there??

Is it really such a problem so stick to the standards and output a perfect picture??

I already played around with the reference levels and color spaces available in the 360′s settings, but no cure could be found.

What’s the problem here??

  What are you comparing them to, CRT or LCD? Because they’re a lot better than LCD for gaming, as well as everything else. I know some hardcore gamers that refuse to upgrade from their old reliable CRT though.

Don’t use pictures to calibrate. Pictures from your PC are RGB Full (0-255), not RGB limited (16-235), which is the video standard. You need to calibrate your 360 using a video. For black/white levels (brightness and contrast), search for “AVS 709″ and you’ll find a thread at the AVSForum that will let you download free calibration videos in MP4 format that will play on your 360. You can also download a burnable DVD that will play in a blu-ray player to let you calibrate your other sources.

That said, this update DOES introduce a new problem, wherein now that the 360′s video playback levels are correct, the picture viewer now no longer does the conversion from full RGB to limited. It’s clipping blacks below 16 with JPG files now. Microsoft just can’t get this right, and it worked correctly before the Metro dashboard update.

Just thought I’d meantion, there is a naming issue in the party chat since this update came out. For example, if I join “Player 1″‘s party and “Player 2″, “Player 3″, “Player 4″ and “Player 5″ are in that party, when I first connect to the party it will list the names of the people in the party chat like this:

The update caused my console to brick. The update was about 90 percent done installing when an error popped up saying the update could not be completed. Then it went right to the red dot and a black screen. Currently trying to get this issue resolved. I was initially told I’d get the console replaced for free since the update caused the issue, an hour later this was backtracked and was told Tier 3 would be contacting me. I will be contacted within a week or two.

I’ve had this update since the 14th February and haven’t been able to connect to any of my friends xbox live party since then. I keep getting the message “Can’t connect to Xbox Live Party. There may be a network problem”. I’ve done everything to try and rectify the issue but nothing on the Xbox troubleshooting page works.

Hi all, I know this is a stupid question, but, I really don’t know what to do. So, I am trying to see my installed X360 games and see if I want to removed them. But, I couldn’t find them. I go to My Games, press Show, there are All, Demo, Arcade, Indie, Kinect, Recently Played, and Recently Downloaded.

Where are the “Xbox360 games” and “Games On Demand”? I used to use those in my previous dashboard. But, I couldn’t find them in my new dashboard. I am certain it is my fault. It got to be somewhere. But, for some odd reason I couldn’t find it.

Currently I have to use ALL, and go through all my 40 games (arcade, indie, demo, xbox360, on demand, and etc) and look at the color banner for X360 logo. It is very painful.

Please help me find it…. please……

Easiest way I’ve found is to head to system settings and check the hard drive in the games and demos sections. You can glance at the size of the game title’s storage and know very quickly whether a game is installed or not. Not the friendliest or easiest method, but it works pretty well.

Microsoft is not responsible for MW2 (Infinity Ward/Activision is) nor is this update intended to fix any games, only xbox issues. If you have problems with MW2 it would be wisest to visit their support forums.

  Well that is fine IF Infinity Ward/Activision would address the problem. When I start asking the “tough” questions, the run-around starts. They then blame Microsoft for what plaques my system. Not what I call good customer service. And no, I’m not going to buy MW 3 to reward these people for designing poor quality gaming by giving them more money. Major, there’s a piece of functionality that the new dash doesn’t have, and that makes it much more awkward to use downloadable games.

I have 109 games on my console, most of which are XBLA trials. There are also purchased XBLA titles, games on demand and installed full-disc games. I used to be able to pick ‘full games’ as a filter in the library, so the 80+ demos would not show up. That option is missing now. Navigating through all those things, 5 at a time, is slow and annoying. This has made me stop downloading demos and XBLA trials because they just clutter up my list of owned games.

I have a 260GB disc, partly so that I can download things and not worry about having to delete stuff; the lack of this little bit of functionality cuts directly against that. I’ve not bought anything since the ‘metro’ update and rarely play anything but the DVD in the drive; it’s made me use my Xbox less. I was hoping the update would add that feature back. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for a future update, but your dash redesign made my Xbox significantly less useful to me.

  I can’t speak for Graham, but my internet is not the fastest; downloading a demo or game can take several hours or even all day. I (used to) download the demo for any game I might be interested in so that when I want to try something new or have some money to spend on games, I can do that without waiting until tomorrow for something to download. Removing the ability to filter full games just means I can’t easily find, access, or play the games I’ve already paid for. It’s made the XBLA marketplace nearly useless to me; I’m not too inclined to buy games very often now that it’s a frustrating experience just to play them. I’ve actually stopped using my Xbox almost completely since the update just because of this one downgrade.

If you push up on the D-pad while in the “My Games” list you can select the green “Show” box. You can then choose to view Demos, Arcade, Indie, Kinect or more options.

Hey, Major, this update killed my Netflix. I live in Mexico and at first I got this error ”R1206″.
I tried to delete and reinstall Netflix, but it only got worse… :S

24 hours later, still the same problem. Unable to even download the update. Tried getting it straight from console, and even USB. This is kinda ridiculous. I’d enjoy the entertainment I purchased, but I can’t. I tried both of my consoles, both having the same problem. I’m not fully understanding the problem.

Since this update, when I start a game from disc (like Final Fantasy XIII-2) my TV dies. The screen shows a black image on every source and the audio works normally. To resolve I have to turn off my TV and turn on it another time. I’m going to try with another game later today. The XBLA games and the demos work normally. I use the HDMI cable.

New update won’t download. goes through first screen pretty fast. Hangs
up on second screen and gives error codes. Have tried CD/DVD and Flash
Drive methods. Xbox doesn’t seem to want to boot and recognize either
CD/DVD or Flash. All other updates have come across fine in the past.

since the update my tv is being id as dvi instead of hdmi so i had to turn off EDID. also the install to hard drive feature doesnt work it just frezes when you try to install

I started to have that problem after I got the dashboard update. What you have to do now is signout your profile then install the game, and then sign back in after the install starts. Hopefully it will get fixed in a future update.

The problem with blocking ads is there is no point as it still leaves a blank panel there.

Its not the adverts that are the problem, its the fact they taking space away from actual useful functionality in order to squeeze adverts in there.
