Windows 8 Consumer Preview and Xbox LIVE

If you haven’t seen the news, the Windows 8 Consumer Preview is available starting today. We’re excited that Xbox LIVE is part of this preview, and I wanted to share some details about what you can expect.

Xbox Live in the Windows 8 Consumer Preview includes games, video, music and Xbox companion applications.  In the preview, these apps are just a taste of the features that we’ll be delivering at launch.   We will share more information later this year as we get closer to launch.

Check out the preview if you can and let us know what you think. While you are downloading it, I’ve posted some screenshots of what Xbox LIVE looks like in the Windows 8 Consumer Preview.

Stay tuned for more details.

Update: Here is a good FAQ about Xbox LIVE and the Preview

Almost no one has the Xbox 360 in Japan and there the application is available. Here in Brazil where the Xbox it dominates is not available :(

First I was like: Yes Xbox Live integrations, can’t wait to test this out!
Then I was like: Only US, Japan, France and Germany… really microsoft really again?

I don’t get it either. Why include France and Germany and not the UK? It’s nothing at all to do with region so are they simply trolling? Could they at least explain thier thinking here because I really do feel like this is just US giving UK the finger and nothing else.

I’m not giving it enough time to grow on me but I don’t like it. Neither does my laptop, my mouse isn’t working well with the start menu and my CPU is working overtime. I prefer my battery way more then fancy program suspensions n such.

This is very true! I seen this on ABC.News they were saying that Windows 8 and Mac are competing very hard this year, and that there is reason to believe that Apple are holding back… on the release. This is exciting maybe they are going to come out with another whole line of Macs or something!

Just what I wanted. The horrible Metro redesign polluting my PC too. No thank you!

I have Windows 8 installed and from what I can tell Metro is the new start menu. Metro will also be nice for tablets, touchscreens, and kinect. In desktop mode it feels and looks basically like Windows 7.

What is the reason this service is only offered to such a small amount of countries?

My error is even worse, it says my regions don’t match. I tried correcting my region in the language/region settings, but nothing can fix it.

Disappointing that so far I can’t use most of the Live features as my account is EN-GB based. Any idea if the preview apps will support more regions soon?
