Xbox LIVE Arcade Gamerscore Policy Change

Starting next month (April 2012) all new Xbox LIVE Arcade games will have the option to increase from 200 to 400 Gamerscore points, with the addition of up to 30 Achievements. Even better, this Gamerscore increase will be required in all new Xbox LIVE Arcade games starting in June 2012.

    Unlockable avatar awards, gamerpics and premium themes implemented in ALL GAMES (both retail and arcades) should had come first than pumping up gamerscore. And with that I’m not saying those stuff are that hot, just that we should be able to get them (those are a form of advertisement in the end) free for playing the games we pay for.

    Sadly, that would be the closest thing to give away stuff to players/reward them for playing we would ever see from microsoft. But we get more imaginary points that serves almost (to none) purpose. Still people will be paying to increase their gamerscore and thus cheap games with easy achievements will be tagget at higher prices :(

      Don’t worry, it’s not a gamerscore reset for cheaters.
      It’s a server side bug that they are working on as I type this.
      Try refreshing your gamertag, the gamerscore should come back to normal (it did on my Windows Phone) and included the achievements earned after the reset.

    Hello Major Nelson. Listen to this, I had just finished watching one of your videos on the dashboard before starting my gaming, and when I finished and went back to the dashboard about to enter a game, I see out of the corner of my eye, a number 10 where my big ass gamerscore used to be! I’m not going to torture myself further relaying every single detail about this issue because I’m seeing that many others before me have already contacted you with this very serious system error. I am 32 years old and have been with XBOX since day 1. I work hard and I’ve invested too much time, money and patience into this console experience to stand back for this MS error gamer identity flush(THOSE ARE MY SAVES, MY NERVES, ALL THOSE DAYS AND NIGHTS OF MAKING SURE I GET EVERY CHALLENGE DONE AND EVERY ACHIEVEMENT). You know perfectly well the uselessness of dealing with the MS Support people, so I come to you. Help me and every other victim. Without us, there is no you.

      Just recover your gamertag. It worked for me and many others.
       
      There is however one HUGE problem with achievements after the bugged reset, particularly with games that write progress to the gamertag itself instead of just a save file.
      For example today I unlocked the “Focused” achievement in Mass Effect 3 (that’s when I noticed I only had 25 gamerscore instead of the 98200+ and I immediately stopped playing when I saw this).
       
      After recovering your gamertag, that achievement is GONE! (Just unlock it again wouldn’t you say…?)
      The really infuriating part about that is, that it is, and it isn’t gone completely.
      Clearly ME3 keeps progress of every achievement and writes it to your gamertag/profile. Because I have tried everything getting it to unlock again today (Loading an older save, importing a ME2 level 30 save, which let you upgrade to a level 6 skill immediately, deleting saves, etc).
      The progress in extra’s -> accomplishments says 6/6, but the icon is grayed out.
      Now if I get a skillset up to 6 again, it doesn’t unlock (not in a new game nor a game in progress). Absolutely NOTHING works to get it to unlock.

    To any one who lost their gamerscore, sign out of your profile then choose the option Download Profile. I got all of my gamerscore back so just do this, say your own personal f u to Microsoft for scaring the piss out of all of us, and then enjoy getting back to your games!
