  • Ben

    Sweet, let’s build!

  • Damon

World is limited to 1000×1000 :(

    • mando6599

Is the size unlimited in the PC version or something? Never played Minecraft, but I’m VERY interested in playing the 360 version. How big is 1000X1000?

      • Jeff Morton

World’s on the PC edition are only limited by how much RAM you have. Essentially infinite, but the game breaks after a certain point.

To get a good idea of how big 1000×1000 is, look at this map:

        • ungeheier

That actually seems quite big to me. *shrug*

      • Robert Pendell

Size on the PC version is limited to an unsigned integer limit in programming. That ends up being 2,147,483,647 blocks in every direction except map height.

        • mando6599

So having it at 1000X1000 is very tiny comparing both?

          • The Dukenator

Not quite. With PC, you can add/delete chunks at will.

They kept it at 1000×1000 to prevent overload.

      • Jeff K

A world on the PC version is equivalent to several Earths. I think six is the last figure I heard, though I may be wrong.

    • Robert Pendell

Are you referring to 1000 from center or 1000 wide total?

      • Luke Es | sE ekuL

“1000×1000″ means area (width x length), not radius.

  • ColtRL

    Working all day. Crap

  • Terrence

Is the download fixed? I tried earlier and got told it’s not available in my region (even though I live in California) and I’m afraid to keep trying and have it take my microsoft points but not give me the game.

    • Robert Pendell

Try getting the trial instead then buy it in game.

  • Sean T

Massive problems being reported in the UK with this release…freezing, crashing, unable to purchase full game etc…..any update on that?

    • Ben

I’ve added it to my queue but am at work, have you managed to download it? What ISP are you with?

    • Robert Pendell

I’m in the US. There are some known issues. Apparently it was showing up as costing 4 billion points earlier. I wasn’t able to buy directly through the site but I did do it in game fine.

  • Peter van Dam

Did I read this correctly. 1600 MSPoints !? So we add more achievement points just so we can queitly higher the price…. :(

    • Sean T

it works out to be the same price as the PC Version, pathetic gamerscore has nothing to do with price

    • Jim E. Rustler

Fable Heroes was 800 MSP and has 400 Gamerscore.

It also sucks but I think that does a successful poo on your post.

  • Jim Ryan

1600??? Who decides these prices in the USA I guess that’s fine where you can get 1600 for $20 but what about here in Canada? We can get 1400 for $20 or spend $40 on 2800… lame!

    • Luke Es | sE ekuL

Here’s hoping the microbucks go away later this year! Then people will A) really see the years of price discrepancy for Canada, or B) enjoy a “price drop” if they actually set them at parity.

      • Chibi_Matt

Yes, I was thinking these very thoughts when I read yours. Very lame, I will NOT be buying this great game because of that.

    • Eric Starr

Yeah, it’s BS. 1400 point cards, or buying on the marketplace in increments of 500. I hate how we’re gypped out of 200 points when the Canadian and US dollars are on par (or even when our dollar is stronger than theirs)

  • Dan Glover

1600 points seems about right to me. It’s $20 on PC. You have more freedom and features on the PC, but the Xbox has convenience, and now I can play with friends who would have never played other wise.

    • mcmax3000

It’s actually more on PC now. It was $27 last time I looked.

    • LarZen

Problem is you have to pay more on Xbox if you dont have some points allready, you cant buy 1600points. So for people that dont buy many games on Live you are actuly paying much more.

Horrible currancy system that is ripping of people.

      • The Dukenator

You can buy a 1600 points card.

        • LarZen

          Only 500,1000,2000,5000 and 6000 online with the X360 :(

          • Jim E. Rustler

Yeah but if you’re paying face value for MSP you’re an idiot. Prepaid cards are available under dashboard value easily.

          • LarZen

Most stores here in Norway dont have these cards as Xbox is not selling any good.

          • Jim E. Rustler

            Hmm, that is a problem.

GAME’s codes might work for you, I’m not sure if they’re region locked to the UK or the whole of Europe. 400 MSP codes are currently half price.

          • LarZen

Yeah, im looking into online stores selling codes now to see if I can find some cheap. Thanks :)

        • Luke Es | sE ekuL

No 1600 point cards are country specific. Only 1400 and 2800 cards exist in Canada. Like other comments say, the online point ranks are multiples of 500.

    • Luke Es | sE ekuL

      No it’s $26.95 on PC.

  • darkjester74

$20 for a game that routinely crashes while saving, wiping all your progress. Great job there, cert team! Maybe you should add “Able to save reliably” to that fancy list of TCRs…

    • The Dukenator

Does that sound like Fez to you?

  • run_saber

Many comments point to a possible “LAMEcraft”?

  • LarZen

1600 points and you can only buy 500,1000,1500,2000 ++

I want to pay for Minecraft and thats it! MS Points need’s to GO AWAY! Im not buying before its lowerd to 1500points or MS POINTS are gone.

    I wont hold my breath…

    • The Dukenator

You can buy a 1600 points card in a store.
There’s a rumor that they might be ditching the points system at the end of year

    • Russell Gorall

Amazon has digital codes of 1600pts for nineteen bucks.

I agree though, the whole MS currency sham needs to end.

  • Kent Engström

From Sweden with love! Although I haven’t even played the PC version myself… Maybe I’ll get this some day.

    • The Dukenator

  • The Dukenator

Before we go any further, the xbox 360 version of Minecraft is PC Beta 1.6.6. It’ll be updated as time goes on.

    What it has:

    • John Marshall Britt

Can we verify this, no Shears in this version?

  • Paul Cedfeldt
    • Russell Gorall

It shows 20 bucks. Was it upped in price? If MS found out about it they probably put the proverbial strong arm on them.

      • Paul Cedfeldt

It was only available for a few hrs. Probably priced it incorrectly, and quickly fixed once they realized it was too inexpensive.

  • Paul Cedfeldt

Best Buy is selling a download code for $15.

    • mando6599

I’m wondering if it’s staying like that for long.

      • Paul Cedfeldt

        Get it while it’s hot!

        • mando6599

Has it worked for you? Did they send you the code via email?

          • Paul Cedfeldt

I haven’t pulled the trigger yet.

          • mando6599

Anyone else tried it and it worked?

          • Paul Cedfeldt

Bunch of folks over at Giantbomb have successfully ordered – check out their minecraft forum.

          • mando6599

Bought it and it’s queued up at home! WOOT!

  • Paul Cedfeldt

PSA for those of you not willing to part with $20, there are several great minecraft-alikes available through XBLIG for $3 (FortressCraft, TotalMiner).

  • Jeff K

As someone who’s been playing the PC version since Alpha, I have to say I’m rather impressed by this port. I was VERY skeptical, but this feels very good.

I’m certainly a PC elitist, so I’m not going to be switching to this version any time soon :P But it’s a very, very good port. It even feels a little better in some spots, particularly presentation and movement.

  • Jim E. Rustler

    Bit much innit?

  • Russell Gorall

While the trial seemed interesting, I would just have to wait on a price drop for this. Playing through some pop hipster game can be cool, it just seems like a three dollar Indie title and from what Mojang has shown on PC they don’t really work hard on supporting the title once they have your cash.

  • Doug Walsh

About the MS Points — you all know it’s because of credit card transaction fees, right? Not necessarily a problem for $5-$20 games, but for all those other little 80 point things available. It would be a CC fee nightmare to be running up charges everytime someone wants to spend a buck.

Yes, of course they could just tally it up for the end of the month like iTunes does, but, well… I guess there’s really not a good reason why they don’t (except maybe to protect the kiddies from themselves)

    • Luke Es | sE ekuL

It’s not a nightmare when the contract negotiations go well. Apple does it with volume volume volume, and they have a *small* delay (not monthly, more like 48 hours) so that multiple purchases can get combined into one bill. The reason to have a delay is to reduce fees, the reason not to is to prevent fraud. So it’s a balance that XBL hasn’t tried to tackle yet.
Also I can charge a .49-1.99 thing on PSN without any trouble, so…

  • Quaranj

Bought it this morning. It’s good….is it 1600MSP good? Well, that remains to be seen. If you have 2 gold accounts signed in, and one idle it doesn’t know the difference and puts your idle account into split screen. Other than that I have a boat stuck in a Wall. How many arrows does it take to kill a creeper anyways?

  • Carl Wallace

Ok its official, Minecraft is one of the best XBLA games out right now! I cant believe I waited this long to play it. I should have gotten it for the pc a long time ago!

  • ElektroDragon

Still can’t see what all the fuss is about with this game. It’s a clunky, ugly mess. That’s typical of fads though, they usually don’t make sense. Such a bad deal when you can currently get Disney Universe for $5 less on PS3, which despite being a kid’s game, is actually fun and won’t make your eyes bleed.

  • kingcrusher

Fortresscraft 300 points, better graphics, lots to do, great value. Minecraft is highly overrated and, while fun, not worth the 1600 asking price. Try out Fortresscraft and see what I mean. Glad to see some more diversity in the gaming though. Now if we could just get rid of the new dashboard and actually go back to a gaming first type of system…

    • Some Guy

So Minecraft is overrated so people should instead play a gimped clone of it?

      • kingcrusher

While I understand the fanboy response, I think if you played fortresscraft you would see that it’s more than just a clone. Better graphics, some great tools for building, and it just an absolute value for the asking price. Having played both, I think both are great. I’m strictly talking asking price. And Fortresscraft is easily the better value. But, both are great games.

        • Some Guy

Fanboy response? Let me reply to your douchebag response. According to Raptr I have put over 400 hours into Fortresscraft…so yeah, I’ve played Fortresscraft. I wasn’t mindlessly defending MC. While I like FC, I’m not going to lie to myself and pretend it’s not a clone piggybacking on the success of MC. Any other assumptions you want to make?

          • kingcrusher

Sure, you are hilarious, and I appreciate the laugh you’ve given me. I love people like you :-) Brightens my day.

          • Some Guy

People like me? Oh I see. This is the part where instead of acknowledging you made a incorrect assumption, you’re now instead going to be condescending. You have to double down on being a douchebag because admitting your mistake is too hard on your fragile ego. I’m starting to think you are a Fortresscraft fanboy who got his feelings hurt because it was called a clone.

          • kingcrusher

No incorrect assumptions, just appreciation that you’ve taken the time out of your busy schedule to respond to me in such a fanboy’ish funny way that it brightened my day even more! You do me a service, and I truly appreciate it. If I could I would pat you on the head and give you a cookie. Peanut butter even… those are the best.

          • Some Guy

No…you did make incorrect assumptions. There’s no getting out of that. You assumed I never played Fortresscraft when in reality I’ve probably played it more than you. And now you’re just being a troll. Once again calling me a fanboy and continuing to be condescending. And you’re only doing that because you think it’s going to send me into a rage. I hate to disappoint you, but it’s not. I’m so very sorry that my comment about Fortresscraft hurt your fragile little feelings.

  • Tom Roehl

I find that the game is pretty fun, BUT the only main issue i have is that you can’t save your game if you’re in a friends world/server. You can only go back into it if your friend is on playing it. How am I suppposed to help my friend build things if I can’t build in MY free time because me and my friend don’t always keep the same schedules. Does anyone know if this will be changed? So we can go into our friends world and help build even if they aren’t on.

  • Russell Gorall

The trial plays like MC Hammer.

  • Russell Gorall

Major, can you give out maybe half a million half off codes for this? Hello? Are you even a person, you crazy white boy?

  • StormRaging

How exactly do you take a screenshot? It doesn’t explain anywhere that I have found.

  • Antarael Dulacre

Won a code of Minecraft today… I’m very happy!!! =D

  • Neoblaze

You cant even use the biggest feature becuase it requires an HDTV. I got the game for the split-screen just to find out you need an HDTV. Dissapointing =/ , i hope in future updates they insert the ability to play split-screen in SD. Up to four players i understand but why do we need HDTV just for two players?….

  • bushmaster2000

Retail point cards are available in 1600 and 4000 point denominations. I agree that Microsoft Points need to go away, but you can get 1600 point denominations. You just can’t get them thru the Xbox dashboard directly.

  • Junior Jimenez

they should have left hunger in the game with out it a major part of the game is gone

  • Liezzel De Jose

like Ellen answered I cant believe that someone can profit $7984 in four weeks on the computer. have you seen this website

(ĊľÏćǩ ÖŊ Ṁŷ ńāṁė Ḟǿŕ ťħè ĽīńĶ)

  • Bobby Farmer

maybe it just me but i was bored with this game after about 10 mins the pixelated look and just over all speed of the game is a let down. If it could be smoothed out and played a little bit faster pace i would def get but not worth 20 bucks thats for sure.

  • Sandor Rendeczky

    Comments disappearing?

1024×1024 for 20 dollars is an insult. The PC version is 8x the size of planet Earth.

This is like the gimped baby version of Minecraft.

    Talk about lazy developement!
