Was’nt Golden Axe already on XBLA ?

This is Golden Axe 1-3 in one package

  • Hugoku

Mad Riders looks fun. Will give it a try. This reminds me that I never got to finish Pure.

And yeah, why no Revenge of Deathadder?

Golden Axe ?? No HD ?? No way …

Huh, this may sound weird, but the reduced size of the thumbnail for Max Payne 3 under Larry’s Gamertag has an uncanny resemblance to Mr.Pointyhead. That is, until you look at the original size of said image.

800 is a rip for these old sega games….

I played the crap out of the first Golden Axe in the arcade, I played the crap out of Alex Kidd on Sega Master System.

However, I can completely agree that ten bucks is a total sham for what they are giving compared to the value of it relative to anything except enriched uranium.

It’s really not, time was they were 400 EACH, You’re getting three for 800 and they’re cheaper than on any other current platform.

But then value is relative to how much you want them I suppose. Bare Knuckle 3 and Wonder Boy Collection were worth the entrance fee for me but Alex Kidd & Co and the Golden Axe Collection? Not so much.

For $20 (or less) you can get Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection which has Golden Axe 1-3 as well as Streets of Rage 1-3 and about 40 other games. It has been out for a long time now. What is the point of these new mini collections with repeated content?

If this was a complete Golden Axe collection with the the home system games from multiple platforms (Genesis, Master System, Game Gear, etc) as well as all the arcade games then it would be worth it.

    • Hugoku

      But… but.. cheevos!

Golden Axe Arcade, Return of Death Adder and The Duel would have made an awesome collection.

It is worth noting that the Golden Axe games (and Streets of Rage games, which are supposed to be out too?) are online. On Genesis Collection for XBox 360, all games only have local multiplayer. Also these games come with bonus trial missions, sound test, and far better options and emulation than previous releases.

As for their value, that is based on personal opinion. Most retro games are 400 (Contra) or 800 (Simpsons Arcade) points on their own. Here you get three for 800. Based on standards, this collection is at a lower price than usual.

  • Russell Gorall

Someone wake him up and tell him that Streets of Rage Collection is also out.

  • http://twitter.com/RobbieShenton Robbie

Downloaded Mad Riders and its awesome.

  • Russell Gorall

Sometimes it is like the blog is on auto-tune, with some robot giving automated posts. The Streets of Rage Collection is also out, I guess I can’t expect him to do his job every day.

  • http://twitter.com/Navarin Jim E. Rustler

Yeah you should just buy Streets of Rage Collection instead, Golden Axe 2 and 3 aren’t as good as the first one and the SoR Collection has Bare Knuckle 3 tucked away on it.

Now if SEGA would give us Revenge of Death Adder, different story…

  • Knives_and_Faux

Enough of these ‘classics’ already, they were never that great to start with.
