Call of Duty, Xbox 360, Xbox Live By Larry Hryb, Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson

  • Patrick K.

That is sad… You guys should have a Microsoft presence at GamesCom. Show Halo 4. Let the people play Halo 4 there.

  • fsdfg dsfds

Should have been WaW 2, but no got cater to thew lil kids who love the lazers and shoebox maps

    • Daniel logan

because 4 wwII games in one series was not enough.

      • fsdfg dsfds

piff more like its been 4 years since a WWII one

  • Flawless

MS advertises COD as if it was an exclusive just cause they gets maps 30 days early LOL.

  • Jason King

Someone should troll the world and play a video of Black Ops (or any MW tbh) instead. Then watch the fans of the game state it as the best thing they have ever seen.

  • Nitramuse

I wish this game wouldn’t get this many media attention. CoD is one of the reasons gaming went mainstream, aside a few other things (Wii for example). And why is Microsoft bragging of a 3rd party game instead of your own game?

I really hope this will be the last CoD (a man can dream) and that Activision will kill of as quickly as it did with Guitar Hero…and all other studios Activision has bought for that matter…

    • QuixoticRocket

You realise that this isn’t an official MS blog right? MS are not bragging about anything. Majornelson blogs about stuff he finds interesting / he thinks his audience find interesting. He’s just a good source of MS info too, but this is certainly not an MS blog.

      • Nitramuse

It may not be an official blog…but in my opinion, it is a semi-official blog. It is just stupid to promote a game when the big blockbuster is just around the corner.

I’d prefer (as a MS employee AND the public face) to post something about Halo instead of CoD.

        Just my $0.02

        • QuixoticRocket

He posted something about a nifty jacket a while ago… is MS now pretending to make jackets?
Majornelson posts stuff the audience finds interesting. He does post Halo stuff when halo news is available. I’d rather he posted all sorts of news than simply become another MS outlet. We’d lose half the interesting news here if he just posted about MS approved advertising.

          • Nitramuse

Clearly we have different opinions, and that is just it: an opinion.

I for one simply don’t care about this kind of news, just like I don’t care about those kind of jacket posts. Back in the day, this blog was all about xbox, xbox live, arcade and all the insider news. Now, I don’t visit that much anymore because of all the non-related posts.
I find it just a shame. This should be a place for the transparacy of the service. At least a little more transparacy…

          • QuixoticRocket

            Fair enough.
I like that this isn’t just another advertising outlet though, but as you say: personal preferences.

    • Daniel logan

COD will not die after black ops II. Activision is bringing its best DEVS for the COD series. Neversoft means we should see a First Person SkateShooter! lol jk. In reality, what is wrong with games being mainstream? You say that like it is a bad thing.

      • Nitramuse

My.reply didn’t past moderation, so it seems… I cannot state my mind.

  • Russell Gorall

Isn’t Xbox not even going to be at Gamescom? And they are trying to air a third party game, almost as if it were their own?

Anyone see the humor and irony in this?

    • Daniel logan

No because Activision gets lots of money from microsoft to get dlc first. Microsoft gets lots of sales and money because COD is better on Xbox.

      • Andrew Tuite

Yes because Xbox owners getting to exclusively PAY for content before PC and PS3 owners makes an overated game better. Sony’s Gamescom showing was even better then their E3 one this year. Games, games games.

      • Russell Gorall

You just made my point. MS doesn’t have anything first party to show, so they are showing a 3rd party game they pay perhaps hundreds of millions cash to get early DLC for.

You don’t find that humorous, not having anything to show so you skip a game convention then try to tie yourself into someone else’s title?

  • Matt S

I have bought every COD game, even MW3 (Elite Edition with collectibles). About 5 months into it I got bored. So even though I still months of free stuff left, I gave it all up. The franchise is getting bored. Its why I have no interest in COD games anymore.

The MP is always the same basic think with a few tweaks here and there. Not to mention what decade will they change the MP graphics engine? The Black Ops 2 interests me about as much as stabbing myself in the nuts with a knife, although I might actually do that rather then playing BO2.

All they did with BO2 is add a future theme. But when you look at it you can tell its really the same COD game as before. Meh, update the engine and give it some NEW gameplay changes and I will be interested. But as for now COD has gone the way of Final Fantasy for me. Don’t care to play it anymore. Now I would play WaW 2 if they made it because at least its WW2 and shooting in WW2 games is interesting.

    • fsdfg dsfds

WaW was the last good game for sure

    • Matt Soultaker Echo

you people are a bunch of bobble heads its a freaking video game grow the hell up for christ sake gees lol

  • Logic Squirrel

BO2 does not interest me, i completed the first one and sold it as fast as i could, i found it an empty, boring and shallow experience.

CoD4 was great, it was a reboot, fresh, awesome graphics, 400pt map packs, etc.

I really really wish Activision wasn’t the publisher. The second CoD4 became a hit Activision resold it with a new skin and a few tweaks each and every year and then became so bold to sell it’s map packs for 3x the normal price (causing other publishers to see if they can get away with that too).

So much potential was wasted after CoD4, and it is now on the path of Activision’s Guitar Hero. I would love to see a real sequel to CoD4, not reskins. At the very least while reskinning the game, fix some of it’s problems.

The next generation of Xbox should have a rebooted CoD at least. Maybe by then MS can figure out a way to minimize the use of modded controllers too. That will be beautiful!

    • Christopher Cougar Johnson

This IS a rebooted Call of Duty. Have you seen what they are doing with the main campaign? Have you seen the new tournament features that were teased in with the new multi player trailer? Have you seen the different tone of storyline they have put into the game? Have you seen that there are MULTIPLE endings to the game?
I’m sorry, but I’m starting to get tired with people saying that it’s the same thing without even looking into it. Please stop writing this game off before game play gets out there!

Also, Microsoft DO know how to pick up modded controllers, but to keep it fair, a REAL PERSON has to investigate, and with how ever many games being played at once in any given Call of Duty game? If you know of a person who is using a modded controller, reporting them through COD itself will also let IW/Treyarch know so they can also help swing the ban hammer.

      • Russell Gorall

While the game does seem different than previous years, maybe the most since Modern Warfare, you have to realize that saying this a different COD is like saying this year is a different Madden.

I played through the Spec Ops story recently, that game was like a breath of fresh air. Every time I play through a military shooter I tend to forget what is going on, as there is always a tendency to have a story that is so weirdly black and white that one wonders why the patriotism involved isn’t laughed at.

As far as multiplayer, everyone plays COD, Halo and Gears mainly because everyone else does. Plain and simple. Multiplayer has to be the absolute most ghetto standard in gaming right now as far as sales, as one game’s complete flaws are laughed at while another game with the same issues on real servers are hailed. Seems like every year I read reviews for COD saying how amazing the multiplayer is without the reviewer playing one second on what would be the game’s actual servers day one. Yet, the reviews and sales can’t lie?

Every year the game publishers try to fashion yearly franchises as something really different. The thing is, people don’t really want anything different, which is why so many buy the games in the first place. Including myself. tldr

        • Roxas3510

I play the game (CoD, Halo, Gears, etc.) because I enjoy the game, not because it is popular. Actually, I wish CoD wasn’t so popular because there are a lot of people who DO play it just because it’s popular (which are usually the ones who suck or use cheap tactics to win). Not everyone plays it for that reason though. Me, and all of my friends just like the gameplay, even though the game is usually bad (MW2 was my favorite aside from noob tubes and MW3 was completely terrible). Call of Duty is a very good game, the core gameplay anyways. They always ruin it by adding on the unnecessary things that don’t belong. Black Ops 2 looks promising. Although I’ve said that in the past, especially about MW3, I have a feeling that maybe this time will be different. Back when I first started playing MW2 I never really payed attention to the little things that could make or break a game, so when I saw the trailer for MW3 I thought it was going to be the best thing ever. I know better now though, and I pay attention to whatever I can observe from the trailers and gameplays, down to the spawning, recoil patterns, gun flinch, etc. I have a feeling Black Ops 2 will be a good one, hopefully.

          • Russell Gorall

It is always that weird coincidence that everyone seems to like the same thing at the same time. It is what it is.

    • Roxas3510

Look on the bright side, If Treyarch/Infinity Ward can’t redeem the Call of Duty name, Respawn Entertainment is possibly working on a Call of Duty like game, at least I hope they are. The original makers of CoD4 making a FPS game most certainly has to be close to a CoD type shooter.

      • BostonSup

I can’t wait to see what Respawn does. I don’t blame them (formally IW) for all leaving Activision. They made such a great game and I think they will again (no matter what type of game… though hopefully a CoD4 type).

Although widely hated, I think EA will be a better match for them. With the exception of their sports titles, EA tends not to make a production line of games with just new skins. Well, at least we will find out if it is a better fit!

  • demonboy99

I don’t know if my question was posted because I was asked to verify my email first, but I’ll try one more time so that I don’t get annoying.

I was wondering if you would please tell me what website to visit to watch the live stream? I am sorry for the inconvenience Mr. Hryb.

    Thank you again,
    Scott (demonboy99-username) (DEMONIKUS-gamertag)

  • Trevor Lee

Why can’t they do this at PAX, in America, where COD is made?

    • Daniel logan

Pax is a smaller event that usually does not have large announcments and does not have press conferences where as Gamescom is essentially E3 Europe.

  • Wayne Bodine

LAME!!!! i really didnt like the fact that i had “3” zombie maps to play with! B.s.! people should stop padding there pockets, n make a game for crying out loud! i been bored to playing kino till the point of level 100 onna bad day… if BO2 gonnasuck the same, i wont even spend the money!

  • Rathskeller

I’ll never understand the intense hatred for CoD. I’ve been playing videogames since the beginning (I’m 38) and I love CoD. Yes, I see it’s flaws but it’s still a fun game. I think Battlefield is absolutely terrible but I’m not leaving random comments all over the web trashing it. Give me a break…

    • Fallofduty

You are u a blind judgemental person. I understand battlefield 3 is not perfect. But the game is not horrible. u
probally do not know how to play a real fps thats y u are being a brain
dead “give me gun shoot player.” BF3 is considered a real fps game.

      • Kerry Bumpus

i think both are fine i play them alot but only when i want a break from playing Halo Reach all night or somthing, halo did start the firstpersonshooter so i think battlefield and CoD should thank halo, not saying they have to but they should think about it

        • Quinton Aj Stevens

Are you serious? Halo didn’t start the FPS game type by ANY means. You would know if you read any history on video games.

          • Jim Fitch

Goldeneye? I guess Doom, Quake, Wolfenstein, THE DUKE, and Unreal are all forgotten then!? **Note – not supposed to be a comment towards you Quinton, its aimed at “hernan”!

        • Hernan Miranda Jr.

actually it was golden eye that started the fps craze. if any1 sould b thanked it should b them

      • Bobby

Blind and judgemental? Ironic. He said he thinks it’s terrible, but not leaving comments everywhere. In any case, they are two different games. BF isn’t my cup of tea, but maybe that’s because I was Army and don’t want to play like I’m still in.

    • TheRealAfterTheFire

I have to believe he is trolling because no one could contradict themselves in the exact same sentence as much as he does here.

    • Russell Gorall

At this point I just hate the fact Microsoft puts more money into early DLC for third party games than actual games of their own.

I think a pop shooter is a pop shooter.

  • Mark Hallman

where do you go on your xbox to watch the stream?

    • MrBenchmark

      use the live event app

  • Skyler Rogers-Clement

How do I get the live stream going on my Xbox?

    • Nitramuse

Via the Event Viewer App, I think…

    • BostonSup

I’d imagine it will be on the dashboard (probably the first screen in the big box, check all 4 ads in it). It will also probably need the live event app, like the Mars Rover event needed.

If it is not on the dashboard, check under apps for something like “Live Event”.

  • H

I love to sit back, relax, and read these silly fanboy/anti-fan comments!

  • Mike Vieira

CoD BO 2 is going to be a pretty good game but in my opinion The Battlefield seris is better and will take over i cant wait till BF4
