Extra Life 2012

24 hours are gone and so are we. $5,333 raised for Seattle Children’s Hospital. Thank you all!

Hi, everyone! It’s e (@thevowel) here. As you may have heard on the podcast, I’m participating in Extra Life again this year. If you aren’t familiar with it, Extra Life is a gaming marathon in support of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

In less than 48 hours I’ll be kicking off 24-hours of gaming to raise money for Seattle Children’s Hospital.

I’ll be streaming the whole way on twitch.tv so that you can watch – and join the chat and mock my skills or lack thereof. We’re also going to embed the stream right here on majornelson.com.

We’ve already raised $937 $1,154 $1,701 $2,039 $3,214 $4,581, but I’m shooting for $5,000 this year!

DONATE HERE!

Watch live video from thevowel on www.twitch.tv

Sponsor part of the marathon!

For $100 you can pick an Xbox 360 game that I have and I’ll play it for 30 minutes. I’ve got most of the Xbox 360 games released in the US so there’s a good chance that I can play your favorite game – or the game that you’d like to see me suffer through! Want me to play it for another 30 minutes? Double your previous donation – $100 for the first 30 minutes, $200 for the next 30, etc. -and I’ll do it. Note: I’m not going to play Kinect games – I’m committed to playing for 24 hours, and if you have me playing Dance Central for hours on end I’ll collapse long before that.

We’ve already got some time sponsored:

8-9AM: Borderlands 2 (thank you Kristy & Randy Pitchford!)

9-9:30AM: Avatar: The Last Airbender (thank you @keithkline!)

NEW: 9:30-10AM: Banjo-Kazooie XBLA (thx @taskbaarchitect!)

NEW: 10-11AM: TBD (thx @kudakeru!)

NEW: 11-11:30: XCOM: Enemy Unknown (thx Sang Hong!)

NEW: 11:30-12: NCAA Football 2013 (thx Kevin Brumit!)

NEW: Noon-12:30: Viva Pinata (thx Jared Sartin!)

NEW: 12:30-1: Earth Defense Force: IA (thx Michael Bowen!)

NEW: 1-1:30: Kameo (thx Matt Richenburg!)

This would be more meaningful if you didn’t list the names of companies giving money away. It kind of reads like an advertisement for 2K and Gearbox, who I thought were still busy teaming up with Metacritic to get any negative user reviews for Borderlands 2 taken down. Instead of giving away Season Passes to the DLC for their game that they decided to not put on a disc they could just give the money anonymously. 343 gives away fifty… themes?

On behalf of the kids – “We hope your small gesture got you enough publicity to make our misfortune that much more positive for you!”

It for charity, don’t be a douche

      • Russell Gorall

We are donating ad time to Gearbox and 343. I am being charitable.

        • Lee Rayson

no they are company’s that donated digital content so that xbox live users may get involved an donate, perhaps it best you just don’t comment since you have nothing nice to say. Its children’s charity event not and ad campaign

          • ryder4life22187

i agree at least they care enough about the cause that they donated content for people to donate and receive an incentive as well. Anyway who said they possibly didn’t donate money as well.

          • Russell Gorall

Hmm, looks like an ad campaign. If they are aiming for five grand, it isn’t a very well funded ad campaign.

            Straight cash, homie.

          • Lee Rayson

e was aiming for 5K that was his goal for the charity, now if 100 people had the same goal how much would that be? can trolls do math ?

8-9AM: Borderlands 2 (thank you Kristy & Randy Pitchford!)
Gearbox (yes. randy is head of Gearbox) sponsored an hour of gametime… that’s $200.

Muahahah. At last we know the price for e to have Last Airbender on his gamercard!
Although… if he tries hard he can avoid the achievements and erase a 0 score game… hrmmm. Loophole.

Just donated $100. Love that you are doing this. I participated in the past 3 years but this year I’m just not mentally ready to do a 24 hour marathon so donating instead. :)

Thanks for donating! e’s busy playing so he may respond later, but I wanted to thank you on his behalf.

  • NBA Kirkland

Thanks for the Halo Theme, e and 343. I don’t blame you for passing on Kinect games for this, but an hour of NBA Baller Beats could raise a lot of cash! ;-)

  • Russell Gorall

Are the commercials going to charity, too?

    • Lee Rayson

      get a grip dude

Russell, how much did you donate? Who cares even if they do piggy back a charity event? So corporations aren’t allowed to donate to charity ever? They want to show their support by giving away premiums to those that donate as a way to say thank you. People aren’t donating in order to get something. If they are, they’re doing it for the wrong reason. This isn’t a sale. Your skewed view is most unwelcome and another example of internet cowardice combined with a bullying attitude. Big man coming in here complaining. Think it through a little more. Or, if the whole industry is so distasteful to you, stop supporting it. But you’re in the wrong house with this message. We see right through you.

      • QuixoticRocket

While I agree with you Zack you’re just feeding a troll here.

Congratulations e, 24 hours straight. twitch TV worked well, and that moneys going to lighten the monotony of hospital. nice one.
Has Xbox ever joined up with charities for avatar awards, in the UK we have Children in need and Comic Relief both of which we could buy a virtual avatar item to support?
Would the costs be high your end even though its virtual?
