Windows Phone 8 Games

Xbox is excited to announce a great line-up of games in support of the new Windows Phone 8, which is releasing this holiday season. Building on a tradition of bringing customers games they know and love, as well as exclusive titles from Microsoft Studios, Xbox will release an initial wave of games to take advantage of this exciting new platform.

Beginning this holiday, an already robust portfolio of Xbox games including fan-favorites like Fruit Ninja, Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I, and ilomilo from great partners such as Rovio, Gameloft, Halfbrick, MiniClip, Glu and Microsoft Studios, will grow and continue to drive excellence in gaming and services on Windows Phone. Join us in welcoming the first set of titles from Xbox for Windows Phone 8:

  • Angry Birds Space
  • Angry Birds Star Wars
  • Asphalt 7:  Heat
  • Fairway Solitaire
  • Gravity Guy 2
  • Ice Age Village
  • Jet Pack Joyride
  • N.O.V.A. 3

I gotta ask, will these titles work on Windows Phone 7 hardware?

      I can’t imagine that they would…but I don’t know for sure.

I would like to know about the other way around. If the games and such that you paid for on windows phone 7 can be transfered to windows phone 8? Just like an Iphone when a new one comes out!!!

Yes, you can re-download WP7 apps on WP8.

I Love Jet Pack Joyride. My son got me hooked on it. Wife did NOT approve. That’s usually a good sign it’s a great game.

Is that ok to have the N.O.V.A series (an ex-Halo clone, now Crysis clone) on a MS device? Interesting. It’s a well done game by the way.

Those games have been already available on Android and iOS for a while (except Angry Birds: Star Wars, which comes out next month). They don’t look like they need to take advantage of powerful hardware either, so there’s no reason for them to be WP8-exclusive, I hope they also release them for WP7 users.

Do I have an upgrade path for my Windows Phone 7.5 HTC Titan?

      That’s a ‘no’ unfortunately.

If I can give a tip: Invest in porting the xbla boardgames: Catan, Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne, Uno, that kind of stuff

Not just to wp8, but to windows 8 in general. For some reason nobody focussed on boardgames on tablets yet: You got an absolute winner slumbering there, waiting to be capitalised.

It would be great if they’d bring over the XNA stuff from Xbox live; Fez, Dust: AET, etc.
