Arcade, Deal, Game Add-on, Marketplace, Xbox 360 Games On Demand By Larry Hryb, Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson

  • http://www.facebook.com/dan.muir.12 Dan Muir

Free games for Gold subscribers, akin to Sony giving PS+ subscribers downloadable titles wouldn’t go amiss, eh Major?

    • StormRaging

While I think it would be awesome if MS did the same as Sony does for PS+ it’s not likely to happen as unlike Sony, MS doesn’t need to bribe people to subscribe to live. Maybe if there weren’t something like 12 million paying subs they would consider it.

      • chiron69

And 12 000 000 times ? (each month) should give room for lot better discounts than the feeble ones they put up for sale every now and then, wouldn’t it? It’s those 12 million users that pays the salary to a LOT of Microsoft employees. ;-)

    • http://twitter.com/Chaosprower Chaosprower

Well, Ascend. New Gods will be free-to-play for Gold members (as it’s online-only I think). The same with Happy Wars and other free-to-play ones. I know they aren’t retail games but at they are an incentive for Gold members.

      • http://www.facebook.com/dan.muir.12 Dan Muir

F2P against retail games isn’t really a comparison, as with F2P games their business model relies on people buying customisation etc for their characters. So as a Gold subscriber, you get to download a game that’s free to play but then you have to shell out points/money in order to customise|upgrade your chosen character?

Stormraging, it’s not a case of ‘bribing’; it’s a case of what do you actually get for your annual fee? Yes, online play’s all well and good but that doesn’t justify the cost; nor does it mean that Microsoft should be limiting various apps to the tier, either. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had a Gold account for 7 years, I renew more out of habit than actual use but I do feel that Microsoft need to evolve their business model.

        • http://twitter.com/Chaosprower Chaosprower

What I think is unfair is apps like Xbox Music where you need to be a Gold member in order to be able to PAY a Xbox Music Pass while Windows users have the basic service for free.

          • http://twitter.com/boe2BE Boe2

Thing is, you got all these people paying for live. Microsoft would be foolish to miss out on that revenue, yet they know well enough that they can’t pull the same trick on the pc platform.

I do agree they should just make these paid subscription services available to everyone. Limiting the adoption rate of Xbox music by locking it behind the xbox live Gold service (basically: you pay double) is a downright idiotic marketing move.

          • http://twitter.com/korahn Eric Starr

One of the main reasons I’ve never used their services (Xbox Music, Xbox Video, Zune). If I want music I’ll use itunes, rip from CDs or go “arrrr.”

        • http://twitter.com/seekul Luke Es | sE ekuL

It is certainly time for an evolution, and it’s a safe bet they’re strategising one. Paul.. erm… Dan & Storm are right that because of the subscriber base and renewal habits, it’s not exactly a panic to get a new campaign in place. LIVE can coast, probably until next E3 when we’ll just be concerned about what “LIVE2/720″ will offer for the money.

I haven’t renewed my Gold in 2 years. For me, without the time or desire to play 360 games online, Gold has no feature appeal whatsoever. There are perhaps half a dozen game saves on my profile that have the NO COPY flag to backup on USB stick, but those games are not worth the price of cloud saves.

  • http://www.facebook.com/celso.nobre.1 Celso Nobre

    you are a joke
nothing attractive for the next 2 weeks for payers
so it my renewal is not automatic as PSN +
    LIVE, the last year

    • Dr4gOnsFuRy

Go rent your games from PSN+ and stop complaining. Nobody is forcing you to buy anything.

      • Russell Gorall

It is almost like people have opinions on the Internet. Nobody is forcing you to use the Internet.

        • Dr4gOnsFuRy

You’re right, but I am using the internet out of choice and I am HAPPY with it. I don’t go threaten my ISP that I’ll be leaving because their broadband is not cheaper than others or they are not offering the service that I want.
At the end of the day, Microsoft don’t have to offer us anything at all.
People start moaning when there’s no deals on the list that they are interested in, that’s their problem, other people will find it useful regardless.
People are always threatening to go to PSN+ because they never get anything for free from MS. Fine, go, stop complaining and once you stop paying for their service try play those games, oh wait…

          • http://www.facebook.com/kevin.giguere.5 Kevin Giguere

I’ve stopped doing most of my business with Microsoft due to their high prices. I buy everything on Steam now. As it turns out, I can get as good a product for 10$ less, new, and not have to pay to play online. Not only that, I can also wait to get 25-50-75% off, something Microsoft does VERY reluctantly.

Yes, there are alternatives, and I have chosen them. I just stay for the podcast entertainment at this point.

          • ryder4life22187

strange last time i checked you do have to pay to play online via pc you have to have an internet connection same thing. I don’t get half the people on here is it really that much of a cash issue that it’s so hard to find 35 to 40 bucks a year for Live. But i bet these are the same people who buy each and every new release game and wind up with 2 to 3 new games to play in a week.

          • http://www.facebook.com/celso.nobre.1 Celso Nobre

so I paid the internet, paid a sealed game with online pass that is not enough I have to pay LIVE to play with friends! so my subscription is not renewed automatically!
this is ridiculous, besides the service to play with friends to live has nothing attractive, the same price of 30-40 U.S. dollars PSN + is where you play with friends and win products!
Today only subscribe to live because of forza, I love that game!
and no, I do not buy games at launch, much less 2-3 per week … FORZA only I buy at launch! because I love the franchise!

          • ryder4life22187

But you are connecting to their servers and using their bandwidth not sure why they would want to pay that out of pocket. I will say this though if PSN+ works for you than that’s great as Live works for me as i use enough of the services even though they are an extra charge, as Netflix, Hulu, the deals they do actually do from time to time and all the multiplayer games i play all the time. I’m not sure i would like the free/rental games to go on Live like on PSN+ as i always go back to the games i play as i never get rid of any of them.

          • http://www.facebook.com/celso.nobre.1 Celso Nobre

the problem is not having games for free, over the treatment of GOLD’s, is disgusting discounts are ridiculous, buying content on LIVE, more deals have only garbage

        • http://www.facebook.com/celso.nobre.1 Celso Nobre

Micro$oft force me to buy the online gaming
if I do not pay, I do not play with my friends
the worst GOLD has only this, online games. I’m on psn + free games!

          • Dr4gOnsFuRy

Nonsense. They haven’t forced you to buy anything, you’ve made the choice to buy it.
Really? That is nonsense too, I pay £12 for a whole year of live, that’s the same price for 1 month of PSN+. Now you tell me, which am I getting a better deal from.

      • http://www.facebook.com/celso.nobre.1 Celso Nobre

it yes, Micro$oft force me to buy the online gaming1
if I do not pay, I do not play with my friends … and the worst GOLD has only this, online games. I’m on psn + free games!

    • guest

if you like renting games, stick with PSN+. renting makes you happy so go have fun.

      • http://www.facebook.com/celso.nobre.1 Celso Nobre

it is not paid the rent … I LIVE to 3 years, what is the problem of paying the PSN for 10 years? there equals LIVE only better!

  • http://twitter.com/Chaosprower Chaosprower

Will Persona 4 Arena be available worldwide? It hasn’t been released in Europe yet…

    • http://twitter.com/GreenMistt Miller

Problems with the publisher I believe (Atlas). Skimmed through something on gaf, saw something along those lines.

  • http://twitter.com/superberde superberde

Joy Ride Turbo, Shoot Many Robots & All Zombies Must Die cost (right now) 800 MP. So, next week… what would it be? 50% => 400 MP or 25% => 600 MP ???

    • Chris Hofer

I noticed this, too. Seems to me the sale price should be 400 MS points on those.

    • http://profiles.google.com/dfpg86 Décio Gonçalves

Microsoft has done that in the past with games on demand and almost no one noticed, they said it the game were on promotion but the price was the same as before (ex: Saint’s Row 2 or Apache Air Assault), well, at least for Europe, you know, were Microsoft always screws up…

    • mitch

      exactly!

  • http://twitter.com/Chaosprower Chaosprower

Oh, and will Xbox Windows games release dates be announced in this blog as well?

  • rhooper

And the trend for the end of the year: season passes! What a surprise! (not)

  • http://twitter.com/ENich1 E.Nich

Lately the deals have improved greatly. Thank God this next two weeks I won’t have to purchase anything since I already have what I want from these Dotw. Good job.

  • Hugoku

I don’t know much about the new Karateka so at the very least I’m intrigued.
Good DotW even though we get an Oblivion repeat. Guardian Heroes is great however.

  • BlinkFandango

Might pick up Skyrim on the Amazon Gold box deal tonight with the DLC on sale.

  • http://www.facebook.com/ricardo.baptista.714 Ricardo Baptista

When will Halo 3 ODST be available on demand? Please!

  • Jose Manuel Sanchez

I’m really hating those “Season Pass”….

Mo money for stuff that in the past were, not free – cuz’ you already paid for them… were in game.

It’s like “hey I’m originally I was a strawberry ice cream… well now I’m just an ice cream without any flavor but for 2000 points you’ll get the strawberry flavor pass ;)”….. mew….

    You now what I mean… ¬¬’

  • ryder4life22187

i figured id save my points after the terrible shoctober sale. Dawnguard is not that much of a deal should be cheaper and made it at least 1000 points then i would have grabbed it saving 5 bucks is not that big of deal.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bush-O-Connor/555604190 Bush O Connor

what is it with games and season passes nowadays, just piss off and put the content on the disc,

its a bloody sham. the only thing xbox has over ps3 is its still easy to mod.

and the deals of the week are a disgrace to anyone who has gold for more than a month.oblivion again really??

    • Riddick Snipes

Have u even seen how much data usual map packs take up? The discs only hold so much and games like gow3 or mw3 for example all the dlc simply won’t fit on the disc. That’s y its called dlc.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bush-O-Connor/555604190 Bush O Connor

i know the disc’s only hold 7.8gb but most of them are filled with blank space to fill the disc, thats why some GoD games are less than 1gb they took out the empty part.

i used to look forward to arcade wednesday, sales and deals on xbox live. i have not bought anything in months from them, all my money goes to steam now. last night i got dead rising 2 for 7 euro off steam

        • Riddick Snipes

My bad. I’ve never bought a GoD so if they r only 1 gb that’s news to me. Makes me wonder though how just 1 map pack can easily b 500 mb. In any case its out of our hands and I’ve always looked at map packs as something extra to an already huge game. I’ve no problem at all paying for map packs for games like cod, gears, halo and even trials and the season passes let me get those for even cheaper, so I’m all for em.

  • http://twitter.com/fcviotto Fernando Coli Viotto

Grabbing Guardian Heroes for sure not sure about the others :(
Any recommendations? I heard that Shoot Many Robots isn’t very cool :/

Btw, Karateka is so nostalgic! Makes me remember my old times playing on Apple II

  • Guest

Where are this weeks arcade game deals? All i see are DLC and GOD

  • http://www.facebook.com/chomskyknows Marcus Roof

The Major is already playing AC3 and Halo4. We are jealous :(

    • Russell Gorall

      Speak for yourself.

  • mitch

Where are this weeks arcade deals? All i see are DLC and GOD

  • Lee Rayson

“Halo 4: War Games Map Pass Season One ” so we should expect more in the future after this pass?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Cameron-Lessing/1474997658 Cameron Lessing

yep, apparently there’s almost 2 years of DLC confirmed :)

      • Russell Gorall

No real reason to buy the game new now, then.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Cameron-Lessing/1474997658 Cameron Lessing

that’s why i said apparently, i’ve only heard that, hasn’t been confirmed

  • http://twitter.com/TehTrhisler Terry Applewaite

Now all we need is another dashboard update. One that rectifies the complete failure of the last update to remove all those wretchedly horrible pastel sounds. The ones that make the console sound like it’s passing wind from eating a wii, courtesy of some mentally challenged interior decorator. Oh, where have our real sounds gone to, we want them back.

  • Russell Gorall

This makes me sleepy. Season passes, overpriced DLC for a nearly obsolete console, very sleepy.

    • Riddick Snipes

      Go to bed

  • http://twitter.com/MykeJayy Michael J

Oblivion sale price – £8.99 – not too bad
Skyrim sale price – £39.99 – not so good, really should be at least £20 since it’s been a while since it’s been out. No doubting it’s a fantastic game but the price needs to be more competitive.

Not sure if it’s a one off or not but there are a few G.O.D titles showing up for £11.99 including G.R.A.W 2 and MGS:PW although you may find them cheaper on disc.

Looks like the only thing i’ll be getting is Joyride Turbo next week, still something though.

  • http://twitter.com/Vincent604 Vince

MajorNelson when is guardians of middle earth coming out!!!!!!!!????

  • http://twitter.com/McStorm_ Jason

Lets try again, my first message somehow never appeared.(blocked)
Microsoft, Please look at the Steam sales and PS3 sales, then compare to your shoddy sales.
Answer you can’t compare quality to the trash you keep giving us. People we need to take a stand and let M$ know that they cannot screw us for every penny and get Rubbish in return.

    • http://twitter.com/GreenMistt Miller

It’s a cry on deaf ears, or should I say, blind eye’s… Blinded by greed.

  • Z4M0

prices (the 400 msp ones) are right now… next week’s titles are worth checking at 400 msp each!

    • Hugoku

I didn’t realize GH was actually 800msp, but I was getting it anyway.

  • http://www.facebook.com/manuelenrique.martineztorres Martinez Torres Manuel Enrique

HEY! When is going to be available Guilty Gear XX AC+ worldwide and what about the Scott Pilgrims Online DLC?

  • http://twitter.com/Dream_998 Dream

So you like to own your games, good for you. I bet you also like to own all the features of the game that you paid for right? How about multiplayer? Have you ever thought about what will happen to the multiplayer in your games if you have to stop paying for Gold? That’s right you will lose multiplayer access completely.

The difference compared to PS+ is that you have already paid full price for those games. With PS+, you just lose access to the games you were renting, your purchased games are not affected at all. With Gold, you lose a major feature of all your multiplayer-enabled games (for some of those games, the multiplayer is the only mode worth playing). Don’t you see how Gold is actually much worse?

Frankly I’m amazed people will put up with having a major feature of their games held for ransom, especially when there are many other platforms that don’t do this. I have completely stopped purchasing any multiplayer games on 360 and have no intention to resubscribe to gold until they actually provide some value (outside of just offering features that every other platform provides for free).

  • http://twitter.com/korahn Eric Starr

DMC collection on Games on Demand – nice. I’ve had no luck finding this anywhere since it first came out. Unfortunately, it’ll probably be overpriced (as many GonD titles are.)

  • chris

wow, a 50% discount on fan Axxess for wwe 13, but not for xbox. why not microsoft? sick and tired of ps3 getting all exclusives. and the sales, that xbox should get too.

  • chiron69

Since Bethesda finally has begun to release DLC’s for Skyrim with a (very small) discount, does anyone know if they have any plans to do the same for Fallout: New Vegas that was released almost (if not over) a year before Skyrim?

I won’t buy the last two-three DLC’s as they will put me back 1600 more points, and I bought Fallout 3 with 5 DLC’s on DVD for around 1200 points in the shop. (Fallout 3 – Collectors Edition).

Even if the DLC’s isn’t released with a discount, I won’t ever buy them at 800 points a year (at least) after release. Too many INCREDIBLE games coming out these days…. ;-) Does anyone know what plans Bethesda has with Fallout: NV or even Fallout 4? Please let me play through the rest of the Vegas story at a “reasonable” price, pretty please Bethesda…. ;-)
