lol steam gives better deals on microsoft games than xbox live. that is crazy. i am speaking mostly of deadlight and mark of the ninja.

  • m1nh0ca

So, let me understand… Steam makes better promotions for Microsoft titles than Microsoft makes for their own titles.
    Well, just wondering here…

    • mcmax3000

With the one exception, they are all, at most half price. 50% off is
pretty standard for XBLA games when they go on sale, so I fail to see how Steam’s deals for Microsoft games are that much better than XBL.

(And for the record, I’m speaking solely about the Microsoft games listed in this post… Obviously in general, Steam has much better deals)

      • ikari_paul

usually they go up to 75% – 90%. Thats what makes steam a lot better than xbla, and thats why its my main shop. so yes, its better than XBL

        • mcmax3000

Good job not reading my comment:

“(And for the record, I’m speaking solely about the Microsoft games
listed in this post… Obviously in general, Steam has much better

I was saying THESE SPECIFIC sales listed in this post aren’t really any better than sales you’d find on Xbox Live.

          • Angry Consumer

Steam also does a sale on newer titles too and many more titles. Sure Mark of the ninja is only 25% off on steam, but that is 25% cheaper that it has been on XBLA ever.

      • Willy McBurgle

On Steam – usually they’re games that people actually want?

    • Luke Es | sE ekuL

Yep there’s the Mark of the Ninja sale. ;)

  • Yakko Warner

Stupid question time. If I downloaded Flight from the Games for Windows marketplace, can I download the DLC from Steam?

    • mcmax3000

Yes, you can. The Flight DLC on Steam just gives you a GFW redemption code. It states so right on the Steam page.

  • John Paul Roth

I felt a great disturbance in Xbox Live, as if millions of entitled voices suddenly cried out in angry. I fear Steam is offering better deals than their Xbox Live.

    • Willy McBurgle

      LMFAO! Omg! Priceless!

    • Luke Es | sE ekuL

Fear not padawan, entitlement is the path to the dark side. When I play Dark Souls, GFWL connects online just once in every 3 tries. That’s no boon, buy a playstation. ;D

      • Chris Grub

Is it entitlement, or is it that we’re seeing better deals elsewhere and having buyer’s regret five years in?

  • Karl Cramer

Everyone complain because that’s what everyone does that on the internet. If these are of interest to you, “Yay!” If not, move along.

    • BostonSup

This is actually a good place to provide criticism. To Major Nelson’s credit, he does read and reply to many comments and some things have improved with the sales (ie a little more variety instead of seeing the same games/dlc go on sale every other week). MS still doesn’t offer great deals on popular titles like PSN+ and Steam does, and consumers will take that into account when purchasing their console/gaming platform.

  • Boe2

Well, lovely deals all over steam at the moment.

The Walking Dead is off 50%, 12.45 for all 5 seasons. Hard to ignore :)

Oh, and Cave Story for 2.50. If you are looking for a brilliant platformer, you’ll never find a better deal :)

  • Joe. S

sorta getting the program… now get with the program with sony’s plus

    • The Dukenator

PS+ free games require you remain a subscriber for them to continue working and it changes every week.

      • Décio Gonçalves

I remain an Xbox live subscriber and i get nothing… If you ask me, those PS+ “rentals” are better than nothing, right?

        • The Dukenator

When I had Xbox Live Gold, didn’t do much with it except for the apps. Multiplayer very little.

    • Boe2

You could also just be happy about the great deals that are currently going on. Just saying.

  • Willy McBurgle

LOL – I came into say it…but m1nh0ca beat me to it!

  • Peter M.

steam just announced it has 50 million users. Congrats.
These are good deals. Hopefully a sign that there will be more former xbox “exclusives” on pc.

  • Billy Razzle

If only steam were integrated into the Xbox or PS3 or Wii U or Apple TV. Maybe next gen.

    • ikari_paul

hear theyre releasing some sort of hardware in the near future… that will hurt XBL seriously

      • BostonSup

I don’t believe it ended up being a console that they are working on. If they are working on a console, MS’s Xbox devision would be screwed. In this economy people don’t like to be nickeled and dimed. Unfortunately, without competitive (or close to competitive) sale prices and with the expensive membership that is only adding separate fee based apps, there is no way Xbox could survive. Especially when their exclusives are so limited and being stretched so thin. I liked Xbox so much too :(

  • オミナエ イサム

Any word about the XBL black friday (only one day) sale?

    • The Dukenator

      Check the previous posts.

      • オミナエ イサム

I’m talking about Xbox Live marketplace one day deals sale, not RETAIL.

  • Z4M0

this makes me wonder how many chances we got to see mark of the ninja, deadlight… discounted this friday/monday…

  • Matt S

Steam sales are always better and often are on games that don’t suck. MS only seems to put games on sale that are dying. And in the some rare occasions they give you a game for free that NO one wants like the that deep sea diver game…can’t think of its name.

I used to be against Steam for the whole digital distribution thing. But seeing the sales they have made me switch from Xbox arcade to Steam.

  • BostonSup

So the only way Microsoft can get a decent deal is through Steam? That is good to know.

  • Michael J

Words fail me, they really do.

  • Joe Adanac

Why doesn’t Microsoft use its own flippin store to offer discounts on things like Fable 3 DLC?? Microsoft, do you reallly, really, really enjoy splitting your profits with Steam every time??

  • Boe2

No need for hating. He might as well have said nothing about the steam sales, but instead he said “hey guys, you can get some of our games really cheap on this competitor’s online store, just letting you know”.

For once it was “Gamer Majornelson” talking, not “Marketing guy Majornelson”. Don’t burn him for this.

    • Willy McBurgle

It’s not personal to Major Nelson, Boe2 – you must understand that. Poor Major has been left to the wolves while his company picks up the pieces after a disastrous Windows 8 launch. The fact that Larry has to fill his time with promoting sales from other distributors only reinforces the fact that Microsoft has ditched Xbox as a serious gaming brand as is now so wound up in ‘casual experiences’ and generating residuals that guys like me (the main audience of blogs like this) are no longer at the forefront of Microsoft’s priorities. If we at LEAST complain perhaps someone, somewhere at somepoint might wake up and do something about it rather than just sleepwalk through the rest of the decade while companies like Valve make their plans to take away everything that the Xbox dedicated have worked for for the last ten years. Steam Console = One wake-up call too late for Microsoft (when it happens, that is)

      • MilkyTee

        Beautiful post. Well done.

If only those stuffy suits would listen, but it’s their downfall I suppose.

Microsoft: always two steps behind the competition.

  • Bush O Connor

got age of empires 3 last night on the deal, its utter garbage compared to 2.

also isnt microsoft flight free 2 play?

    • kit walker

its free to play like a third of the game with two rather slow and un exiting planes

      • Boe2

The free part is quite enjoyable in the “learning to fly” department, but the non-free content is actually more boring. Pretty cool planes, but no interior, wich is what most people use all the time. Can’t help feeling this was a missed opportunity from Microsoft.

  • Henry Leung

It’s good to see Major recommending good deals even on their competitor’s platform.

But I hope that also means Major (and MS) do understand that, Steam always
have better deals than XBL, and your Xbox fans’ loyalty is wearing away.

Anyway, I would recommend Iron Brigade & Deadlight.
IB is a fun and addictive [TowerDefense + TPS] hybrid.
And Deadlight is an immersive experience of a zombie apocalypse.

Both campaign modes are a bit short for a 1200msp game. But with the discount they are great games that you should grab ASAP.

  • Bennijin

Wow, Microsoft even manages to make a sale on STEAM suck.

  • Sunny Man

Deadlight is 50% off now, only for 11 more hours.
