Xbox System update going out today

I wanted to let you know that the team has just released a system update for the Xbox 360 over Xbox LIVE. Starting today when you sign in to Xbox LIVE you’ll receive a prompt to accept this mandatory update. If you are signed into LIVE already, you may be signed out and asked to accept the update and you’ll be back online in a few moments.

In this update, we are correcting some issues such as displaying the incorrect playlist name when launching a playlist from Xbox SmartGlass to the console, an error with Xbox Video closed-captioning and an error with Xbox Music that some were experiencing.

  It’s because Microsoft needs all of the Xboxes on Xbox Live to run the same version of the Dashboard. You don’t have to install the update, you just need it if you want to be connected to Xbox Live.

I’m sick of these updates. why do we HAVE to download them? its a waste of bandwidth and its fixing issues on things I don’t even use nor anything I have ever heard of, what a joke. that I have to waste the rest of my own bandwidth that I pay for with my own money just to fix a small amount of bugs. I say the updates should only be mandatory if they are urgent.

      We got the yearly spring update and the yearly fall update. Usually that’s it. Now we exceptionally got an extra (tiny) update and all of a sudden we get claims they are updating the xbox every month and how annoying that is? How about thinking before you type away.       (and yes, I too think people are confusing with the ps3, where you DO have very frequent updates that take up to half an hour to install).

  You could always go to a friends house who doesnt have a bandwidth cap and download it from microsoft’s website to a usb and update that way. Or you can go somewhere that has free internet and download it to a usb. Honestly weve only had 3 updates this year. Spring, new dashboard and this one. The bugs might seem small for you but every system acts different what may not happen to you could happen to someone else. Instead of trying to just attend to those people they send out a update to everyone. What happens if 2 months down the line you start having problems that could have been fixed with this update but you didnt get it because you werent effected at that time. I pay $60 a month and get 250GB worth of bandwidth. In the past 1.5 years ive gone over that 1 time due to a video library i had to redownload.

  Try deleting things from your hard drive you no longer use. Ryan Davis of Giant Bomb found by deleting large unused files, it sped up his system. Remember, the 360 originally launched with a 20GB hard drive. Bigger drives means it has to check more things.

  For me the new dashboard was a HUGE improvement in load times. It use to take minutes to load the list of games. Now it loads in seconds thanks to the new caching. So I’m surprised to hear that it’s slower for anyone.

  You have to clear your game cache on your HD. Just think of it as a PC. I did it and it load much faster and he’s it does load slow but that’s because there’s so much content being added constantly. Just try that and you should be good

Would be nice if Xbox (Microsoft) fixed the issue with Facebook compatibility, and the Xbox Live Social Experience. If Microsoft wants to rejuvenate their mobile platform, this will be crucial for future endeavours. Especially if they plan on making Xbox Live a mobile utility for world wide mobile application.

Was hoping this SmartGlass update would resolve issues with some Windows Phone 7.5 models. Some users can’t use the SmartGlass features. They get a message saying that it can’t play, that some features are missing from the phone. For example, My HTC Arrive can’t display the SmartGlass for Halo 4 or Forza Horizon. Meanwhile, non-Windows Phones released at that time can play those. This is a slap in the face to those that are the biggest supporter of your ecosystem.

  I do believe it has great future potential if game developers actually use it. For example: It would be pretty cool that in GTA5 you could replace the ingame phone and all it’s functions with your own phone using smartglass.

the console is turned on, so I can only assume that It’s installing the update.

It would be nice if there could be more actual bug fixes e.g. Indie Games still having a “Play Trial” option even if you’ve bought them. And the one that’s bugging me the most at the moment. You can’t Pin XBox Live Game Studio Connect. It only comes up with the option to Purchase it for -1 MS Points!

Not a good update – this has bricked my Xbox. After updating, managed to play about 5 minutes of Darksiders before the console froze. Turned it off, went back to work. This evening, I get to play another five minutes and then the console just turns itself off. Dead. No response. Just an expensive black brick now. Thank MS.

I owned both machines too, and new PS3 Slim with some really good games, but never played them cuz the interface was not smooth and quick…bought a Blu-ray player and sold the PS3. Never been happier.

Just updated my Xbox and now I can’t play call of duty black ops 2. Just a few hours ago I was playing the game perfectly fine and now the game freaks out when I try and load any type of multiplayer ( local or online). Considering it was working fine before the update, I have to assume the reason it is not working is in fact because of the update itself. Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.
