  EA insisting they run their own servers (and shutting them down) is one of the reasons I don’t buy EA games. One of the benefits of Xbox Live running the servers is they keep them running as long as the console is active, no matter how few people are playing. So if you and a friend wanted to play Perfect Dark Zero, a launch day game for example, you still could.

  xbox live doesn’t run servers for anyone. you aren’t paying membership for servers, you aren’t paying for anything.

I bet M$ didn’t really wanna publish this list cause they don’t wanna show people that they kinda screwed up Halo. Funny and kinda sad how Halo was number 1 once and 2nd once. I’m not surprised that people wanna play minecraft more than Halo 4. They screwed up everything that was good about it, shoulda just copied and pasted and updated Halo 2′s multiplayer and it probably would still be in second and not losing to an arcade game.

  I’m a huge fan of halo 2′s mp, along with the first and third.
  With that said, I feel Halo 4 is just as exciting and fun.
  The reason recent halo games never retain their number one or number two spot is because of hard competition.

    Modern Warfare started beating Halo 3 a month after it was released. On a console where Halo 3 was exclusive. Halo and Gears of War have never been the juggernauts this generation that Microsoft would like you to think they are.
    
    It is more of a case that there are other pop military shooters people enjoy more. If you are saying Minecraft is too much strong competition for Halo 4, that an 8-bit looking game that is made by a handful of people is nothing for Microsoft themselves as a company to go against? That is just an excuse. The franchise has faded, and even Microsoft shoving hundreds of millions at it can’t make it be what it was.

        No, he means the original Modern Warfare. It beat Halo 3 in the most played list on Xbox Live.
        
        It didn’t happen right away like it does now with CoD games, but a couple of months after CoD4 was released, it topped the XBL charts. I remember that being a fairly big deal at the time, because Halo 2 dominated the charts after its release, and people expected Halo 3 to do the same thing.
        
        It was kind of the moment where people realized that Call of Duty was going to be a big thing in the multiplayer shooter space.
        
        The two games went back & forth a bit for a month, or two after that, then CoD4 was pretty much consistently the top game until World at War came out.
        
        (I could be off a bit on some of these details, as I’m going solely by memory, but it was absolutely CoD4 that beat Halo 3. I remember that clearly)

    battlefield was on the original xbox as well, and it was better then the current battlefield titles. the only difference is a shift in market, the original xbox everyone played halo 1, therefore halo 2 was a must buy.

    call of duty 3 was out at the time of halo 3 and it was the best CoD ever created imo, it went downhill with modern warfare and now they have done the same with halo.

I love Halo 4 but there are alot of other games, currently playing Far cry 3 and Saints Row 3 the full package. And Halo 4 is a competetive game where as Minecraft is easy to jump into at the end of the day and just screw around for an hour and you don’t have to be worried about getting destroyed in MP because you haven’t had time to play Halo 4.

  funny thing is GTA IV on pc has nobody playing multiplayer, a lot more people online on the xbox version. whenever i search for a game on pc i only ever find 5 or so servers. its hard to play on the xbox after the pc version its like going back to a playstation 1 game

Seeing the majority of the top games always makes me sick.

No wonder online multiplayer is a stale and dull experience.

FPS deathmatch is so overdone, I feel like I’m eating a burnt steak everytime I see it.

I really hope the FPS genre just flat out DIES so that innovation can resume it’s natural progress in the video game world.

My game Zombie Death Quota cannot be downloaded at the moment, there is also something wrong with the download of Murder Miners.

This is an absolute catastrophe, not just losing the money for the most popular days of the week, but also the knock on effect in the following days on the most popular list positioning.

It has been more than 38 hours since the update (which adds a jetpack) went through and caused this problem. People like my game, I have an overall conversion rate of 34% and a high rating and do not deserve this, please help sort this problem out.

Ahh rocket jumping, I forgot about that! had that mastered back in the day and man did it make a huge difference. You could kind of do it in UT but with mixed results :p Quake 3…. man… the amount of time I put into that game. Won many LAN parties with that one and always ruled with the UT games as I played those to death too.

Miss those days, wish I had the time these now a days.

As a yearly average, yes, that may have been the case, but I remember there being a number of weeks where CoD 4 was on top, and either way, it was CoD 4 where the CoD series first took the top spot from Halo, not MW2. That’s the only point I was trying to make.

Look here buddy. I have nothing against Minecraft, nor do I think it’s a bad game. Fact of the matter remains, Halo 4 total costs (creation, marketing etc.) were at least 100 million dollar, and Minecraft cost like 100.000 dollar to make?

Furthermore, Halo 4 has sold 7,5 million copies worldwide, Minecraft (360) has sold 5 million copies worldwide, so no, there are not more people who own Minecraft on the 360. Also, Halo 4 was released 2/3 months ago, Minecraft was released 7/8 months ago, so again, why would a game 6 months older be more popular than Halo 4? Perhaps because Halo 4 is not as good as Halo used to be?

Next to that Halo has always been the flagship of the Xbox. Halo has been the sole reason Xbox still exists today. If it were not for Halo CE & Halo 2 the Xbox would have been a disaster, and I doubt MS would’ve been so eager to start with the 360. Halo made it possible for the xbox to compete with the PS2, that’s a fact. I can guarantee you, nobody at 343 and MS would’ve have predicted that Halo 4 multiplayer would’ve been doing as bad as it currently is doing.

Face it, the game is not as good or addictive as it used be. 343 made bad decisions in Halo 4 and the online population is a direct indicator of that.
